Hey love, my day is going fine, and I hope yours as well. So...this question took me a while to get an answer because my top 5 changes a bit after I watch some series and it's difficult for me to get a definitive and solid set of series that I would kill to watch again and again, non stop. But I got it...I guess (this is for series that already finished airing and based on some that are still airing and I really like it, this list can change at any moment)

5. Bad Buddy

Enemies to lovers? Slow burn? Mutual pining? Angst? Pain and suffering? Bad Buddy provided me with that in a good amount and even doubled a bit in some of those aspects for good measure just to make me suffer a bit. Granted, the novel had more of angst than the series, but it got angst nonetheless and I LOVED IT!

Emotionally constipated characters like Pran are a very truthful representation of how I am in real life and how difficult it is for me to navigate in personal relationships without overthinking to the point of freaking out when something actually happens (episode 5, specially the rooftop scene, was one of my favorite episodes of the series, because of the amount of feelings it managed to pour in those two characters. I even wrote something in Pran's POV of the kiss, and it hurts me to read til this day)

Also, the OST was absolute fire and Nanon (one of my bl boy) was in it, so I was sold.

4. Manner of Death

I don't usually talk about my favorite midia but if there is something that I adore in story genre is police investigation, murder and suspense. Give me a good mystery to solve, good places puzzles to put in place, dubious characters and I will follow you into the dark like a character in a horror movie. Even if MaxTul weren't the actors portraying the protagonists of the story, I would've watched because Sammon is a good writer and I really enjoy her stories.

This story also gave me mutual pining (TanBun really wanted to get on each other but we're simply repressing themselves, Bun more than Tan, for obvious reasons), fire chemistry, a spoon of angst (I really love to suffer, I know), swiftly adopted son (Sorawit is TanBun's child and I won't accept contrary opinions on that) and a happy ever after (or a happy for now, because we really want "Transplant", the continuation of MoD, to be adapted as a series and the chances are getting higher by the minute).

3. Vice Versa

Stories with supernatural/fantastical aspects have me by the neck, let's start with that. So, when I heard there was a series with parallel universes involved, my interest got picked immediately and I waited to see what I was going to be served (JittiRain, just like MAME, has a reputation of starting well her stories but midway do something that would ruin one or both characters, or even be sus the entire story), considering that I had liked two series based on her novels (2gether and Theory of Love). PuenTalay became my babies the second they met on that airport bathroom. Literally a soulmate meeting.

Another emotionally constipated character in the form of, well, both of them, in various degrees, and two people with an absurd will to love but not having the chance to explore the way they can really love until they are forced to spend time in a different universe than theirs, searching for a way to go back. It was so beautiful to see Puen have a chance to be himself, even if it was in somebody else's body, explore more his interests, gain friends, a family, learn how to express himself, how to pursue something he really wants and how to fight for what he wants; Talay, my sweet boy, someone who also wanted to love but his life was constantly in a blue color mood, only focusing on work because his love life was empty and no one seemed to get his attention, learned how to let go and just enjoy life for the simple things it can offer.

Both of them had an incredible growth, learned how to deal with their insecurities, how to lean on other people when they have a problem, how good it can be to let other person paint your life in a different color. "And now he paints my life pink forever" line, you'll always be famous.

2. Triage

Another Sammon work being adapted into a series (when I say that woman has me in a chokehold, I'm not joking. And when I say that stories with supernatural/fantastical elements also has me in a chokehold, I'm definitely not kidding. This time, were going time loop.

It took is almost three full years to have this series airing, and while some people had already lost all hope of seeing that happening, I kept waiting for it, because TaeTee really wanted to star in this series. And the wait was reeeeeeeeealy worth it.

Granted, there are a lot of differences between the source material and the series, mainly all the story surrounding the human organ trafficking stuff, that wasn't exactly on the novel. The novel focused on piecing together the reason Tin was involved with Tol, what was their relationship and why he was the only only being tasked with saving that boy from dying, over and over again. Seeing the disastrous attempts from Tin to approach Told and warn him about his death, starting from directly telling him that he was going to die (too straightforward, my friend, are you insane?) to make Tol break up with his girlfriend and fall in love with him, so he could save him (very weird plan, my guy) and how things slowly unfold between them was something that I enjoyed reading and watching, and would love to forget everything so I could experience the feelings I had while watching it for the first time.

1. Love In The Air

At this point, are we even surprised with this?

Seriously, I didn't even wanted to watch this series (MAME and her reputation have the power to push away potential viewers in the speed of light, I'm a living proof of that) and was going to let this one pass but then I decided to watch the first episode and see how things would turn out. Not gonna lie, I'm glad I decided to watch the first episode the day it came out.

Payu grabbed my attention with his long hair in a ponytail and his Daddy vibe. Prapai decided to step in and whistle, and I was sold. Rain was my baby himbo, so innocent and fragile that I wanted to keep him wrapped in bubble plastic and never let him go anywhere. Sky called to me because I, unknowingly, saw myself in him. PayuRain and PrapaiSky are literally two sides of the type of relationship I would like to have: as someone with a fairly long lost of kinks, having someone who not only understands but also encourages the exploration of said kinks and the possible discover of many others, Payu is the type of person I would like to have by my side, someone who's secure and stable in their skin, knows how to live their live and has a heart of gold (also because I can be bratty sometimes, give a brat tamer, I would love to push their buttons, just for the kicks. And as someone who is a trauma holder, Prapai is the embodiment of the idea that I would find someone who would understand my pain, my hesitation and my fears and, instead of forcing me to overcome them while I'm not exactly ready, would be by my side every step of the way, being a safe haven, reminding me that I did not deserve what happened to me and that I'm not a broken person or undesirable.

I love how they are so fundamentally different but manages to win my heart in a way that not many couples did and I continue to love them even more everyday. It doesn't matter if my heart leans more towards PrapaiSky (again, trauma holder here, it was bound to happen), I will always carry my weather boys in my heart until the day I die.

I know you only asked for my top 5 but every time I think about my favorite BL series, there is this one series that even if it's not on the top, will always be the favorite amongst all favorite, not only because it was my first bl but also because the amount of identification aspects I found in one of its characters really hooked me and till this day, I smile every time I think about it. So, a honorable mention:

SOTUS/SOTUS S

Many people have various opinions about this one, about a lot of things, but what makes this particular story stick out to me is the fact that Arthit's self discovery journey felt a lot like my own journey, down to a T (or almost down to a T). How he never really thought about it, used to make jokes about queerness but was really not homophobic, how he was "forced" to deal with it by having Kongpop kick his way into his life, the brief "enemies/haters to lovers" thing going on between them, the pining, the leap of faith, the doubts, them trying this new relationship to both of them (I have a headcanon that Kongpop is demissexual but that's not the point here), and how the support of their friends was really important.

And that's just SOTUS. The second season (one of the few early series that didn't have a cheating plot on the second season or a breakup in the penultimate episode of the first season) tackled the transition from the University life, a controlled environment, to the working world, where your life and what you do in it affect more than it is supposed to, how we need to constantly come out to other people, the development of their relationship, how being outed affects your life, your head, the way you react to the situation, how society becomes more judgemental the older you get, how they managed to overcome that; the side stories where one of my favorite things in SOTUS S, and gave us a more in-depth look into their private life, how they were managing that new stage in their lives, how their love continued to grow.

Don't get me started on their episode in Our Skyy, because I cried like a bitch when I watched the first time (without subtitles, because it was a LINE TV production, that primarily only distributed that in Thailand), and then with subtitles because it was so good. Being a couple that has to maintain their relationship at distance is not something I would like to see anyone go through (been there, done that) and when Arthit cried while talking with Kongpop about it...it broke my heart. Fortunately, everything got ok in the end, and my heart was healed.

Well, there you have it. It was really difficult to get to this definitive top 5, when I could rant about so many series, but these are the ones that really managed to grab my heart, tie it into a chair and don't let go. It got longer than I intended but what to expect from someone who got known here by making analysis and theories posts, right?

oh i will talk fandom with you because puentalay run circles in my mind all day everyday and i need to let them out but idk how.

puen has personality of biggest loser but luck of thousands gods because talay fell for him and 1) they didn't see each others faces 2) talay didn't know how rich he is 3) they have maybe not even one common interest (only writing scenarios but talay was forced to do it and I don't think he'll continue to do it in the future) and still their bond feels so natural and strong??? they really live just to do the best things which are bicker and bang and enjoy good food.

But yeah, I absolutely adore how they drove home that appearance plays no part in their connection. I'm sure they find each other physically attractive (in both their own and the other universe) but they were fully aware Tess and Tun's bodies didn't belong to them and fell in love anyway. It was all about the person inside. That's love man 😩

Also asldkjfld oh man I'm sure @stormyoceans is far more informed than I am but I can think of a couple things they have in common! We see them flying kites, fishing(?), and riding bikes in episode 2, plus they're enjoying a movie together in episode 10. And *sighs in I-don't-drink* we all know they like their alcohol. What's awesome about these two is that you can easily imagine them trying new things together, simply because they enjoy each other's company so much 😊

OH BOY YOU ASKED FOR IT. Because I have to be extra about this, here's at least one (1) favorite PuenTalay moment of mine per episode:

Episode 1 - Talay gifting the alpaca hat (and this line in particular)

Episode 2 - drunk!Talay kiss & "Ai'Dang!" (also proud of myself for calling that line was gonna come back when this episode aired)

Episode 3 - Talay not only trying to cheer Puen up (in his own goofy way) but also giving him advice without judgment (yes I like the bath scene too but this one is more meaningful to me personally, it's such an important step in their relationship)

Episode 4 - Talay teasing a shy Puen (rare in the wild) & the cheek-pinching battle

Episode 5 - the mouthing-words thing coming full circle by way of Puen reassuring a sad and lonely Talay he won't leave him behind

Episode 6 - Talay confessing everything he loves about Puen & whatever the hell this is

Episode 7.1 - this entire fucking scene

Episode 7.2 - Puen running right over with a home-cooked meal because he heard Talay was sick + the following conversation

Episode 7.3 - and of course, the emotional climax

Episode 8 - Puen pulling one over on Talay (and immediately explaining why), Puen being a horny bastard, them being total nerds, and THE scene which has to be one of the most romantic scenes I’ve ever seen

Episode 9 - Puen being a horny bastard yet again while making this face, Puen helping Talay with his trauma (again, no judgment to be found) despite having a terrible fight with him last time they saw each other, them making up in an understanding, healthy way, and Puen realising who Talay is in their own universe

Episode 10 - this bathtub scene because I love just how frickin’ comfortable they are with each other (even though I’d never dangle a tablet above my bath what is wrong with you Puen) & them hugging in elation after finally finding the link that’ll bring them back home

Episode 11 - WHAT THE HELL ELSE (+ them falling over during the kiss because that’s an adorable touch)

Episode 12 - this one might be incomplete because I’ve only watched it once and I’m holding off on a rewatch but! them being domestic and bantery and adorable in the opening scene, Puen pulling an Enchanté, and Puen’s proposal (Lays get the fuck outta here)

okay like i have just so many fucking thoughts on tesstun and it drives me crazy knowing that we are absolutely not gonna get any further info on them beyond maybe a few nuggets next week when they go back to the au, so here i am making a post about them. this got way longer than expected so gonna add a read more option sjkfdsf

okay so, to start with what we know: tess and tun have known each other since high school, they were good friends (based on the pic of tun on tess's back) until tess ditched tun's film project and then they started "hating" each other. except tun never actually hated tess and ended up falling for him more than he already had, only for tess to date anna. anna breaks up with tess to protect tun's feelings and then there's awkward tension between them before talay and tess switch bodies. THEN, while they were in the other universe, tun hires tess to be his manager, tess causes him some "financial issues" and hurts tun in some way, tun fires him, and then they switch back not long after that. and then next week, puen and talay are gonna wake up in the same bed when they go back to the other universe, meaning that tesstun will be sleeping in the same bed. also, based purely on the logic of the (minimal) world building, tesstun are soulmates because puentalay are soulmates.

now the thing that gets me the most about all of this very minimal information is that despite tess being the body of the main character for most of the show... we know the least about him. as he's been portrayed, he's just a one dimensional spoiled asshole that doesn't give a fuck about anyone else.

except that doesn't make sense! because tess has great friends that love him, he has tun who fell in love with him despite being an asshole. and tun is a great guy from what we've seen of him! he's caring and protective of his friends and he's smart. and i just have a very hard time believing that tun would fall for tess if he was just a dick and nothing else. i personally think there's more to tess than that. that despite definitely being spoiled, there's gotta be some softer, sweeter side to him that tun has gotten to see before. also, i feel like tess definitely got the asshole tendencies from his dad, i mean the guy's son was in the hospital and man did not give a FUCK.

so, with all of that in mind, this is how i imagine their story going: tess and tun meet in high school and become close friends. tun develops a bit of a crush but obviously doesn't say anything to tess, ends up inviting him to act in the film him and his friend mek are producing. tess ditches them on the day of filming to hang out with some girl because he doesn't realize the importance of it. mek and tun agree to never work with him again. tun later blows up on tess for being a shithead, explains how important this was for them and how they almost missed the deadline because of him. tess realizes how much he fucked up and apologizes, leading to tun forgiving him and while there is still a divide between them, they remain somewhat friendly.

though, they don't see each other much after graduation until tun comes to sell his screenplay to 26 pictures. around then they reconnect and build up their friendship, tun falls hard again and starts to think that tess might feel the same... when he starts dating anna. their friendship isn't the same after that and tess isn't quite sure why. the relationship just doesn't work, but anna ends up breaking things off when she realizes what tun feels for tess and feels bad about it. tess tries to talk to tun about it, but tun has been weird and distant, avoiding him like the plague all the way up until tess gets beat up because he flirted with a girl who was taken and almost dies, so tun calls the ambulance for him. only tun goes back to ignoring him right after.

then they both end up in a completely different universe. tess is there for roughly two months on his own, ends up finding probably his own phuwadol that helps him learn the ropes. only tess isn't as careful as talay is and doesn't think to contact his friends, doesn't think as much about the consequences of being rude to talay's family because he has never really been close with his own. probably ends up depressed because he's alone and doesn't know anyone. that is until through his job as a colorist, he runs into "puen"... who he soon realizes is someone else entirely. tess and tun reconcile and tun offers tess a job as his manager, causing tess to quite the colorist job without so much as a second thought. spoiled tess, however, isn't all that responsible with money and ends up costing tun a lot of it by making a bunch of irresponsible decisions. more than that, though, some big blow out fight happens between them (possibly involving tun's feelings?) that leads to tun firing tess.

with them back in their own universe and everyone thinking they're dating now, there's no better time for them to work things out. they get together... only for them to be sent back to the other universe after their first night together.

wow did this get long. anyways, this is mostly me just grasping at straws and throwing things together with the very limited information we've gotten on the two, but since i know we're not gonna get much more next week, i can decide this is canon as much as i want!

the entire vice versa web weaving series by @daymork. i tell you i wish i could have all these edits collected in one of those fancy ass art books with a hard cover that cost almost a hundred bucks just so that i could flip through it at any given moment to contemplate the beauty of said edits and cry myself to sleep holding it to my chest as i think about puentalay. i have no idea how jessi did it but every single quote she used for these is so perfect that no matter how many times i reread them they never fail to reduce me to a sobbing mess of a woman who is in dire need of receiving mental health care provided by professionals in an institutionalized setting. my point is. i love them. i love them a lot.

the quote by ocean vuong last twilight edit by @morkofday. i could literally put any of vish’s vice versa edits here because it’s like they’re all specially crafted to deal as much emotional damage as humanly possible to me personally, but in the end i decided to pick this one because, to this day, it’s still my favorite last twilight edit ever made. there's just something about it that stayed with me since i first saw it a whole year ago (im not even kidding when i say i think about it an average of twelve times per day) and even if it was done based on the mock trailer alone, vish was somehow able to perfectly capture the spirit of the show, not just by using that particular quote (which is incredibly spot on like when day and mork were talking about tenderness in episode 4 i thought of this edit right away and had to go punch through a wall to cope) but also because of the colors and the pictures that she chose.

the the man who can't be moved puentalay gifset by @seatawinans. you think episode 11 of vice versa has already reached the pinnacle of life altering emotional devastation and cathartic experience, and then you see this gifset and suddenly you find yourself decaying into subatomic particles to cope, committing grand scale larceny and arson to deal, and doing daily affirmations like 'this is affecting me a normal amount! :)' in front of the mirror every morning to survive. truly i have no words to properly express just how much the 'thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet/and you'll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street' lines over the glasshouse scenes make me sick in the head, it's the parallelism romanticism soulmatism of it all and somehow cassi managed to make it worse (read: better).

the underneath the stars by the cure morkday fanart by twitter user @bleu1te. i honestly love all of bleuité's puentalay and morkday works so much, there's just something so soft and tender in the way this artist draws them that every time i look at their art it gives me the same feeling of safety and comfort that i so deeply associate with these two pairings. i picked this one in particular because i fell in love with it as soon as i saw it, i love the colors, i love the starry sky behind them, i love their expressions, and most of all i love the hand placement. idk how to explain it, but i think the way they're touching just really conveys how much they adore each other.

the enchanted by taylor swift morkday video by twitter user @jimmyseagatitos. you know when someone punches you in the stomach and it hurts so much that you just start laughing hysterically? this is the closest description i can give to try to explain what this video did to me on a psychological emotional spiritual mental and physical level. and because apparently im a masochist i've been rewatching it only like 92649626 times in the span of three days. i also think it's pretty damn genius to end the edit on the 'i'll spend forever wondering if you knew' line of the song because it leaves everything unspoken just what mork never got to say.

(the feeling! the physicality! the comfort!! god those are all such great kisses. also hoping for sea to grab onto jimmy too oh yes tho am not sure if the hesitancy before was just him or him portraying talay, we'll see??)

that could be!!!! as a viewer it’s pretty hard to establish if the physicality in a kiss is fully determined by the actor’s performance or if it’s partly due to directing choices, so it’s definitely possible for that hesitancy to be more about talay rather than sea himself, especially since talay isn’t as comfortable with physical touch as puen is, at least at the beginning, while sea himself seems like a very affectionate guy, at least now. i personally feel like both factors may be at play here, which is why im really curious to see how their kisses in last twilight are going to be, since in the mock trailer day is the one to initiate it  

AND SINCE IM INSUFFERABLE HERE IS MY PERSONAL ANALYSIS OF THE PUENTALAY KISSES BASED ON AN ASSIGNEMENT I DID FOR MY HISTORY OF FILM CLASS BACK IN UNIVERSITY 10 YEARS AGO

okay so, obviously im far from being an expert, but what i learned while doing my research is that there are 5 elements that directors and acting coaches usually take into account when it comes to kisses. those elements are:

prelude: it’s everything that leads up to the kiss itself, from the story up until that moment, to the emotions of the characters, to the tone of the scene;

look: eye contact is essential when it comes to acting, and even more so when there’s a kissing scene. we love consent, but the truth is that a lot of times the invitation for a kiss is made through the eyes and the emotions you can express through them (needless to say, jimmy is INSANE at this);

breath: it's whether the characters just dive in or if there's some lingering before or after the kiss;

rhythm: it's about the length, the pace, and the technique of the kiss;

surrender: this is what i usually call the physicality of a kiss, because it’s basically the way the bodies respond to each other.

a good director can play with all these elements to give a specific feeling and match the scene itself. that being said, let's start with the kiss where all these elements can't be applied sfjksgfj

the drunk kiss in episode 2. drunk kisses are hard to judge because you are actually supposed to mess up all the things that make a good kiss. if a character is wasted they're hardly gonna be able to communicate emotions through their eyes or have a nice rhythm. in this case there's also not much of a prelude since they've just met, but that's kinda the point: the purpose is to surprise both puen and the audience. i still find it an interesting kiss because of what it tells us about the characters (talay is more open and affectionate when drunk, puen is perplexed but doesn't get angry or push talay away) and i think the fact that it stayed with them for YEARS says a lot about the instant connection they felt between them. i also really appreciate that we get a quick peck first and then a second slightly more purposeful kiss, lips puckered and fully touching.

the greenhouse kiss in episode 4. HERE'S WHERE IM GONNA START LEAVING ANY SEMBLANCE OF SANITY AND COHERENCY BEHIND. im usually not the biggest fan of one-sided/sudden kisses, but this one.... THIS ONE!!!!!! the entire episode is a perfect build up to this moment, engaging the viewers since the very beginning ("so, they will fall in love?" "i guess they will") and raising the (emotional) stakes with each step leading towards it ("why don't we fall in love with each other?", "i talked about the one im hitting on", "feelings aren't something you can toy with"): the second talay steps into the greenhouse and puen comes into view, you can actually FEEL it in the air, that something's gonna happen. then puen grabs talay's arm to stop him from leaving AND THE LOOKS HE THROWS AT TALAY!!!!!! THE WAY HIS EYES SOFTEN WHEN TALAY ASKS HIM "ARE YOU MESSING WITH ME AGAIN?" AND HE ANSWERS "NO"!!!!!!! his intentions are written all over them, so when puen grabs talay's neck and kisses him you're expecting it and yet it still manages to take your breath away. sudden kisses are pretty much the only type where it's kinda acceptable to have a frozen physicality (so arms down the side, body standing still) because it makes sense for the surprise to be freezing the character in place, and while that it's also what happens here, i really like how they were able to somehow still make it feel 'physical': jimmy goes in so strong sea stumbles/has to readjust his position a little, the hold jimmy has on sea's neck is gentle but firm and establishes connection, their lips are fully pressed together, jimmy's nose is almost squished against sea's cheek, and for a sudden kiss their bodies are standing surprisingly close to each other.

the greyllery kiss in episode 8. when i tell you i start FROTHING AT THE MOUTH every time i see just how perfectly they constructed and directed this kiss to parallel the one in the greenhouse…. from puen's adoring look to the way he pulls talay in by grabbing the back of his neck to the camera angles, every detail is built to make the viewers recall the end of episode 4 and give us a visual representation of how much their relationship has grown since then. obviously the mutuality of it is the biggest difference in itself, but there’s also a subtle shift in the physicality to match that: puen gets to wrap both of his arms around talay now, and talay finally reaches back too. this is one of the cases where i do wish sea could have been a bit more confident in grabbing jimmy back, but at the same time i think the hesitancy makes sense for talay as a character, so it's not a detail that pulls you out of the moment and everything else is just PERFECT. the prelude to the kiss in particular is incredible, not only because of the confession itself, which would deserve its own analysis even just for how it happens when the lights are out, highlighting the fact that they love each other for who they are, no matter which body they're inhabiting, but also because the tension gets progressively built up beat by beat until you find yourself on the edge of your sit holding your breath just waiting for it to happen: i said i like you, beat, i like you even though i don't know what you look like, beat, even though i don't know who you are, beat, i like you too, beat, i like everything about you, beat, puen dropping his bag, beat, and when puen takes an audible breath in before stepping forward, that's when you can finally release your own. this is also the first kiss where we can judge the rhythm, and i personally think that jimmy and sea have a very good sense of it in all of their kisses. it's kinda hard to explain why, but it's in the way they can pace the kiss, and mirror each other's intensity, and switch the side their head turns while doing it. last thing im gonna say (because this is already getting way too long ;;;;) is that letting the sounds of the kiss be heard under the background music sure was. A CHOICE.

the bucket hat kiss in episode 9. [RATTLES THE BARS OF HER CAGE] DOCTOR JIMMY THE THINGS YOU DO WITH YOUR EYES!!!!!!!!! in this case the kiss itself is pretty short so it can't be judged on more technical aspects, however it does not leave the viewers wanting for more, because the emotions behind it already say everything we need to know. the adoration the longing the want the reverence the wonder the love.... it's all written in the way puen looks at talay. the camera focuses way more on puen here because the revelation of who talay is is, quite literally, life changing for him, but the lingering on talay's eyes after they part and the two of them remaining close to each other as if they can't bring themselves to move on tell us how this kiss functions as a seal for the many promises made between them: of going back together, of finding each other again, of their mutual feelings. also i can't really figure out if this is a jimmy thing or a conscious directing choice, but when it comes to physicality i LOVE how puen always has his hand or his arm around talay's neck. it's such a protective and possessive gesture which is meant to send a clear message, not to other people, but to the universe: this is the man i love, it says, and im not gonna let you take him away from me.

the bathtub kiss in episode 10. i feel so normal about this kiss it's honestly insane how normal and hinged and sane and fine i feel about it. like not to be petty but i have no idea HOW can anyone watch this and then really say that jimmysea can't kiss, especially considering it hits EVERY SINGLE POINT of what a good kiss should be like. the simple intimacy of taking a bath together, the shared joy of their success, and the teasing of the reward are all perfect set ups for this kiss, and as always jimmy has the insane ability to broadcast puen's intentions through his eyes in a way few other actors can, however what makes this kiss really stand out compared to the rest are the breath and the physicality of it. when it comes to kissing talay, puen is always diving into it like a starving man, and this time is no different, but unlike all the other times there is a pause in the kiss and you can actually see how much it costs them to separate: they both look like they're getting out of a trance, breaths mingling together as puen keeps his eyes closed for a little longer to pull himself together and talay blindly chases his lips for more, confused by the sudden interruption. this temporary pause doesn't break the actual rhythm of the kiss, nor it pulls the viewers out of the moment, because it's clear that they're both still very much into it. i will never stop praising jimmy and sea for being able to portray just how overwhelmed the characters are here, both from the kiss and the feelings they have for each other, and it also shows in the way they almost sound choked up as they thank each other. the kiss picking up from where they left it is the only natural continuation to all these emotions bubbling to the surface, emotions that are way too big to put into words, so they rely on their bodies to try to convey them. and speaking of bodies, this kiss is the perfect example of why physicality is also called 'surrender', you just need to look at the openness and vulnerability of talay's neck in that position, but even when sea shifts a little into a more comfortable one you can see how their body fit together and melt into each other perfectly. honestly the only thing that could have possibly made this kiss better was to have jimmy hold sea's face for a bit longer instead of moving his arm on the side of the bathtub, but frankly im just nitpicking here (monica aren't you forgetting something, one may ask. and to that i say YEAH YEAH THE TONGUE SLIP WE'VE ALL SEEN IT. NO I REFUSE TO COMMENT ON IT BYE)

the riverbank kiss in episode 10. as much as i love this whole scene, this kiss in particular is sadly not my favorite one, mostly because i think the editing and the camera angles did a bit of a disservice to it. i really like how it starts: all puentalay kisses have very strong preludes because they always serve a purpose to the story, they're never gratuitous (in this case it's meant to be a confirmation of puen's words and an omen of what's to come), and jimmysea can both convey so much with their eyes that you can actually feel how they're pulling each other (and the viewers) in to the kiss by the looks they share. it's when the camera moves from their faces to go above and then behind them that i feel like it ends up taking you out of the moment they worked so hard to build, because it completely blocks the view of the kiss in a very jarring way, and when it gets in front of them again talay's arm is suddenly reaching up to puen, which it wasn't in the previous frame. it's such a pity because i LOVE that connection, it's the kind of physicality that can turn a good kiss to a great one, so i do wish we could have gotten more continuity and a more direct view.

the reunion kiss in episode 11. it may come as a surprise, but i actually don’t have a lot to say about this kiss, mainly because i believe any technical analysis becomes pointless in the face of the journey that led them to this moment. this is their first kiss after being reunited, and if this were any other show, i feel like it would have made a big deal out of this also being their first kiss in their real bodies, but the love between puen and talay has never been about physical appearance, and we're reminded of that once again. this kiss is the meeting of two souls who have missed each other and find comfort in being together again, and i don't think it's a coincidence that this is the one time they are fully facing each other, with puen mirroring talay's crosslegged position on the bed. “from this moment on, it’s me and you,” talay is gonna say in the next episode, “talay and puen,” and i think this kiss perfectly represent these words. i guess i do wish, once again, that sea were holding jimmy back in some way, even just by grabbing his arm, but like with the greyllery kiss i think it does work character-wise, because while this is a comforting moment for both of them, talay is the one who needs more reassurance, who needs to know that puen isn’t gonna leave him, and all the gestures puen does (the forehead kiss, the handholding, the protective hold he has on talay while they kiss) are his way to prove to talay, other than with words, that this isn’t a dream: it’s real, they’re both real, and now that they’re finally home and together, he’s never gonna let anything separate them again.

the boyfriends kiss in episode 12. what's better than a kiss in the same place the universe separated you as a way to seal the deal on your new-found and hard-fought boyfriend status? NOTHING THAT'S WHAT. i do think, however, that this kiss kinda leaves you wanting for more. it's not a short deep one like the bucket hat kiss, but it's also not a full make out session like many of the others, and since they don't have the time to build a nice rhythm it feels like the kiss ends before it even gets a chance to start. this is also one of the times where i wish sea were touching jimmy back in some way, or that his body were lining more towards him, because physicality wise it makes him seem a bit less engaged in the moment. despite these details im still pretty fond of this kiss, mostly because the utter adoration in both puen's and talay's eyes before it makes up for A LOT in my book. also it's not really related to the kiss itself but i love the dark/light contrast in their clothes.

the foggy glasses kiss in episode 12. GAME CHANGING LIFE ALTERING MIND BLOWING. A CULTURAL RESET. we've all read about kisses that leave a character breathless, lightheaded and weak at the knees, maybe even got to experience some ourselves in our life, and i honestly can't think about any other kiss in television history that was able to perfectly represent that feeling more than this one. from talay's dazed expression, to his foggy glasses, to his messy hair because of puen's fingers running through it, you can actually believe this kiss affected him to such an extent. and how could it not affect him when the rhythm and physicality of it are INSANE???? the way puen is holding talay's head with BOTH OF HIS HANDS to keep talay in place barely gives talay any time to take breath and they're so close and entangled in each other that you can barely tell where one starts and the other ends. i love the wider camera shots of this kiss because, as i mentioned before, you once again get to see why physicality is defined as surrender: it looks like their bodies are almost melting into each other. it's not even their longest kiss, but the tension and the intensity are off the charts in every part of it. the single-minded purpose with which puen approaches talay at the beginning, eyes firmly on talay's face, never wandering from it, already lets you know just how wild this kiss is about to be, and you can't expect anything less from it after getting to see talay confessing to puen for the third time in five episodes. i also find it very telling that both the show and the our skyy episodes end on such great kisses, they feel like the testament of their love and the proof of how far they've come.

the beach kiss in our skyy. ONE KISS TO RULE THEM ALL ONE KISS TO REMEMBER THEM ONE KISS TO HONOR THEM ALL AND IN FRONT OF THE OCEAN BIND THEM. so anyway bad jokes (and quotes) aside, this kiss does feel like a sum of all their previews ones, maybe because there are elements in it that tend to remind the viewers of a lot of them: the drunk kiss being used as a set up for it, the framing of puen's face at the beginning being the same as the greenhouse and the greyllery ones, puen's smile before pulling talay into it being a little nudge to the bathtub kiss, their position almost mirroring the boyfriends one...... not to mention that it's hard to look at the ocean and not be reminded of other important moments in their journey, like the two of them promising to find each other again in their universe on the secret island and talay having to wait for the tide to retreat to go back to puen. the ocean of is also the place where talay drowned and everything began, so it only makes sense for their story to end in front of it too. the cycle closes with a recollection of the past and a promise for the future, the kiss itself, the mouthed "i love you" and the forehead touch letting us know that no matter what's gonna happen, they will always love each other like the very first day. much like with the reunion one, i think any technical aspect of this kiss becomes of very little importance when you're faced with the whole entire everything of their history together being contained in it, but let me just say, what a difference sea's arm casually draped over jimmy's legs makes!!!!! compared to the boyfriends kiss, you can see how the extra physical connection makes both of them look fully invested in the kiss and makes the viewers feel more involved in it too. as always the rhythm of the kiss is really good, and this time sea is the one who really shines when it comes to the look, because he's just radiating adoration love and pure unadulterated joy everywhere. not that jimmy isn't giving insane levels of emotions too, but im gonna end this mess with something deeply controversial: i know the fandom likes their long hair, but jimmy's bangs end up covering his eyes way too much and that is A CRIME.

Monica, you and me both. i seriously hope they don't do anything to mess up what we've going on now. because it's been a perfect streak so far and i really badly don't want it ruined. but i don't really trust thai bls that much. the dad showing up completely uncalled for like that was a little bit of turn off for me in that matter. (cause i dint think that was a very important storyline, barely relevant at all to what we've seen of Day's story so far) and i hope that doesn't take more than 5 mins to get resolved. forced separation my beloathed. i also worry night and day will not be resolved as satisfactorily as i want it to (tho i hear we can trust p'aof on that) as there are only 4 more eps left and it's probably not gonna happen in ep 3. andd. as for one last thing, i also wish and hope desperately we get a bit of a reversal in their dynamic. with day being more of a crutch to mohk than the other way around. you know just to complete the picture on both sides. anyways, manifesting nothing but the best. -Skate

MORE RAMBLINGS AND SPECULATIONS AND PERSONAL WORRIES AND FILMING SPOILERS ABOUT LAST TWILIGHT UNDER THE CUT (just to be safe because i really don't wanna ruin people's excitement with my negativity. im also afraid my nomnom card might get revoked ;;;;;;;;)

i personally didn’t mind day’s dad showing up at the end of episode 8 because he has been mentioned since episode 2 and there’s also been a lot of emphasis on day’s mom being a single mom who raised him and night by herself, so i did expect day’s dad to play a role in the story at some point. i do agree that his introduction was rather abrupt tho, like day bringing him up out of nowhere while talking to mork and implying that songkhla was his hometown was a bit too on the nose imho, i think it could have been done a little bit better, but i’ve forgiven shows for much worse. once again my main fear with day’s dad is that he was introduced just to explain why he and ramon separated hence kind of foreshadowing mork and day also eventually separating, which as we previously established i would HATE

and you know it's not like im against separation on principle, i do think it could work for morkday if, let's say, mork was offered a job he's really passionate about in another town and was upfront about it with day and day told him 'you can't be my caretaker forever, you are my boyfriend, i want us to be equal, take this opportunity and make your dreams come true', because i do also agree with you on the fact that we've always seen mork supporting day and i need to have day supporting mork as well to balance things out a little bit more (not to always bring up vice versa but one of the main reasons i love puentalay is the mutuality and equality of their relationship). if this were to happen, they could still talk to each other on the phone and have mork go visit day over the weekend, they would still have a relationship based on love and understanding which is what their entire journey has been about. if this were to happen, i would become separation nr. 1 fan. i would be ready to print every single word of doubts i've ever expressed about the last 3 episodes and literally EAT THEM. the problem is that even if we're talking about p'aof, i can't fully trust him with not going down the misunderstanding route and not making them broke the promise they made of always holding each other's hands. i know that in bad buddy he made everyone think patpran broke up only to say SIKE, but unfortunately that's not enough to reassure me

1. the bucket hat reveal in episode 10. not only this is one of the most scenes in television history (second only to puentalay reuniting in episode 11), but it also takes the crown as the most visually stunning. the pink/red contrasting the black/blue is simply beautiful.

2. the glasshouse kiss in episode 4. I SWEAR IM NOT JUST FINDING EXCUSES TO KEEP POSTING THIS SCENE IT'S NOT MY FAULT IF IT'S PERFECT IN EVERY SINGLE WAY. one may ask, 'why didn't you pick one of the two other glasshouse scenes then', to which i say ONCE AGAIN NOT MY FAULT IF THE OTHER SCENES DON'T HAVE PUENTALAY DRESSED IN CONTRASTING COLORS AND PUEN HALF HIDDEN BY THE GREENERY BEING SLOWLY REVEALED.

4. the secret island in episode 10. at first i didn’t want to put the same episode twice, however i just can’t leave out this scene if we’re talking about visual elements. color wise it may not be as remarkable as other moments (although the touch of green against the neutral tones of the sand and the sky and the water is [chef’s kiss]), but the cinematography here is honestly breathtaking.

5. friend credits reuniting in episode 6. this is a shorter scene compared to the others but i absolutely love the way they were able to highlight the yellow in such a clever way, not only with the lights but also with the sparklers and the curtains against the black and the white/light blue.

hi Monica! is it okay to ask for an little more (maybe indepth) explaining on how puentalay and tesstun switch back to the og universes? So tun dreamt of place and the location ended up been in his film site the next day. So did puen dream too or was their respective switch happen due to tun. And we saw that talay say he dreamt of a place as soon as he wake up but it wasn't some place near by or easy to to reach. of course that’s okay!!!! as a general rule, please feel free to ask me anything, im always up to help if i can or even just to chat a little!!! tho it might take me a while to reply, as you can see ;;;;;;;

before getting into this, however, i think i should point out that the show doesn't really give a full in depth  explanation on how the switching back to the original universe works (probably because the novel itself does not give much of an explanation either), and while i do think the show tried to make sense of it by giving us a few more hints to help us connect the dots (which is one of the many reasons why i think the show is far more superior than the novel btw), the truth is that a lot of it is still up to interpretation. so what i can do is give you my own personal view on the matter, which doesn't necessarily mean it's the right one. im aware i tend to read too much into things and that maybe i've come up with an explanation that it's more complicated than it actually is, but im still gonna try to illustrate it as best as i can and let you decide if it works or not!!!!!

SO. right from episode 1, dol and joob introduce us to the two main rules that are known about traveling back to your universe, which are:

"to return to the old universe, you must first find someone who has traveled between universes like us. there will be something of that person that matches you. once you find that person, you will dream.”

“it will be a place. when you dream about a place, you must go there as soon as you wake up. there's a chance for you to return home."

if we go by these, things seem to be fairly straightforward: talay met puen, he eventually dreamed about the secret island, he went there, he switched back; tun met tess, he eventually dreamed about the pool where they were filming a movie in, he went there, he switched back. simple, right?

however, the more you look at it, the more i think it’s natural to come up with a whole lot of questions like if you dream after you find your portkey, why didn't puen and talay dream right away? did they have to reach a certain level of connection to 'unlock' the ability of being each other's portkey? but then what caused talay and tun to finally dream? did puen and tess dream too? and if talay/puen and tess/tun are portkeys, why didn’t they switch together?

as i said before, all these questions remain unanswered in the novel, but the show adds a layer to the universal travelling that i personally think it helps explain a lot. in episode 6, joob says  

"i do believe universal traveling happens for a reason. maybe it's a lesson for us to learn something we're missing."

this idea is brought up again by talay at the end of episode 12, when during his voice over he says

"p'joobjang once told us we travel between universes to learn something. for me, i learned about love."

if we look at universal traveling under this point of view, i think a lot of things start to make more sense, and we can also answer a few of the questions we previously had. after you die, you travel between universes because you need to learn a lesson. for puen, it was about accepting himself and the life he was given. for talay, it was about love. only once you've learned your lesson you're gonna switch back. in this scenario, your portkey isn't what 'unlocks' your ability to go home, but rather it's the person that can help you learn said lesson. and if we look at it this way, puen and talay WANTING and CHOOSING to be each other's portkeys gets a whole new meaning too: puen loves talay, talay accepts puen for who he really is, and by wanting and choosing each other they also accept the lesson they were supposed to learn

here's when things get a little bit messy (and i probably read too much into things ;;;;;;). so you have to learn a lesson. but to go back to your original universe we know you also have to dream about a place and go there. so you learn your lesson, and once you do you finally dream about a place, you go there, you switch back. following these rules, it indeed seems like the switch has been due to talay and tun since they're the ones who dreamed, even if you don't know what tun's lesson was. i definitely think this is perfectly reasonable, and we could stop here and call it a day, however to me it's not so simple, mainly for two reasons: 1) the switch between puen and tun literally happens at the peak of puen's character development, once he's fully learned his lesson and shows it by finally being ready to tell talay his name, so it's hard for me to see it as a simple coincidence, and 2) maybe it's gonna sound harsh, but to simply put it, this is not tun's (and tess') story, it's puen's (and talay's), so on a narrative point of view it's just weird to have someone else be responsible for the switch

so here's what i think (hopefully i can explain it in a way that make sense ;;;;;;): usually, when you're taught a lesson, you will also have to take a test to show that you've really learned it. puen's test is to face his worst nightmare: being back in his original universe with no one waiting for him. talay's test is to be willing to give up everything for love: losing time and energy by having to wait day after day for the tide to get lower. and while i do think dreaming and going to a certain place is necessary to switch back after learning your lesson, the reason i think puen didn't dream is because that would have defeated the point of his test (if he had dreamed he would have known he was gonna go back and he could have prepared himself for it), so tun dreamed (and went to the designated place) for him

im aware it's a reach, but it makes sense to me, especially because of the place tun dreamed of: a pool. this is already long as hell so im not gonna into it as much as i could, but let's just say that in vice versa water is a recurring theme that carries a lot of different meanings. one of those is that it represents puen and talay's relationship as a whole (in episode 7, the tide at the secret island is low because they haven't cleared up their feelings for each other yet; in episode 9, the tide is getting higher because they confessed to each other but there are still things left unsaid; in episode 11, the tide is at its highest point because puen and talay fully love each other with no secrets left between them [and talay has to dive in the ocean, in their love, to get to the secret island and be able to go back]). but water also represents talay and puen separately, with natural bodies of water being related to talay and artificial man-made ones (like a swimming pool) to puen

ANYWAY. there are still some holes in this theory and there's so much more that i could say about it, especially about the water symbolism and how i personally think 'the Universe' is a sort of sentient force in vice versa, but we would be here for ages so im just gonna shut up. if you, anon, or anyone else, even got to this point after reading though this mess you honestly deserve a prize ;;;;;; (i can offer cookies and all my love?)

but yeah, i hope this was at least interesting, if not coherent, and i'll let you decide if this is a somewhat reasonable explanation that could actually make sense!!!!!!

NOTHING is funnier than puentalay's first two meetings. like you are a celeb after a long flight, you still need to go to work. you are calmly washing hands in airport's bathroom when suddenly a cutie calls your attention to himself. puen was not saying much but he was looking at talay like 'yeah sure i believe that you are not my fan' and then he looked at this hat very thoroughly and decided he likes him enough already to wear his gift and to let him adjust it on his head with his pissy hands. and don't let me start to talk about the way they almost kissed, i think puen's fanclub would block all talay's socials if they knew about it (because he kinda invaded their idol's privacy...). but still puen didn't even pushed him away. if he didn't need to work who knew what would happen lmaooo and the way talay looked at him. are you sure you are not his fan (you seem like a fan of his sexiness at least). okay all good talay is gay and a very handsome man called him cute i understand. so about their second meeting...

do we think puen saw talay and his first thought was 'universe brought us together'? because yknow he's such romantic. and then he unleashed his full flirting potential in front of everyone because I can't even look at the way he pressed on talay's shoulder forcing him to lie down and brought their faces very close without covering my face with my hands and peaking at them through my fingers. very professional technics puen who taught you that???

i think it would be so funny if one day they'll drink with gyo and joe and tup and tou and somehow their first meeting brought up and they start bicker because puen says something like 'you did this gift for me, you were so smitten' and talay's like 'you let me touch you with unwashed hands' and their friends groaning and asking them to shut up

and then you have talay exhibiting the most behavior as he calls puen back just to specify that HE is the cute person who drew the alpaca, and when puen does indeed call him cute again, talay stares after him with such a dazed expression on his face that he has to slap himself out of it AND HIS HANDS ARE STILL PISSY BECAUSE HE WAS TOO BUSY BEING WHIPPED FOR PUEN TO REMEMBER THAT CRUCIAL LITTLE DETAIL. the sheer audacity he has to look gyo's in the eyes and tell her that he's not puen's fan like her when puen calling him cute has him moving like a clown....... something tells me he omitted the pee hands when he recounted the meeting to her SO I HOPE THIS COMES BACK TO HAUNT HIM WHEN PUEN INNOCENTLY TELLS THEIR FRIENDS

i would actually LOVE to see puen and talay bringing up their first meeting and bickering over who was more smitten (THE ANSWER IS BOTH OF THEM) and puen recognizing talay not only as the cute guy with pee hands that gave him the bucket hat in an airport bathroom but also as the hot corpse who could not stay still for a single take and who made him smile with his silliness!!!! it's true that the brainrot was slightly less prominent this time around compared to the first three episodes, however i so deeply relate bathtubs in particular with puentalay that as soon as i saw ray in one in the opening scene it got me SPIRALING, especially since we know from the trailer that at some point he's gonna be sitting in it with sand. the bathtub, as a symbol, represents a place of cleansing and purification, both physically and emotionally (which is why puen 'cleaning' talay's heart in the nivea bathtub scene my beloved makes me feral), but an empty one also signify a feeling of loneliness and a sense of abandonment or neglect, as the water that is meant to nurture and rejuvenate is missing, leaving whoever is sitting in it adrift and unsupported and with a void that needs to be filled

both talay and ray have been in an empty bathtub at one point

and it's interesting to see that water fills it only when puen and sand (or things that symbolize them) are nearby

or even inside the bathtub with them

1. puentalay – vice versa. not only my favorite pair of the year but quite possibly my favorite pair OF ALL TIME. there’s just something incredibly beautiful in the way these two characters were thrown together by extraordinary circumstances and yet fell in love in the most ordinary way, just two souls meeting and connecting and choosing each other time and time again. they went from strangers to friends to lovers in the most genuine, realistic and organic way, which is something that i personally haven’t found in many other pairings. they literally changed the trajectory of my life the game television and the fundamental make up of my entire personhood all while giving effervescent impeccable incomprehensible levels of romance tenderness vulnerability communication openness devotion derangement and love. WHO IS DOING IT LIKE THEM. NO ONE.

2. vegaspete – kinnporsche. it's the twin flame gothic doppelgänger mirroring he is more myself than i am whatever souls are made of his and mine are the same of it all!!!!!! it's watching the careful constructed mask you've built for yourself your entire life being torn apart and getting dragged kicking and screaming into the light to finally being seen for who you really are!!!!!! it's the two of them in their corners with their monstrous needs and starving themselves until they find the only person who can feed them and sate their hunger!!!!!! i know they're not everyone's cup of tea which is completely understandable but also GOD. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE FASCINATING AND COMPELLING DYNAMIC.

3. skyjao – secret crush on you. the amount of absolute joy and delightment these two brought me week after week after week almost rivals that of puentalay. a single episode would take me HOURS to go through just because i kept giggling kicking my feet screaming into a pillow at all their scenes. it was also incredibly nice to see a chubby character not only being loved but being DESIRED and encouraged to feel better about his body. they are lovely and sweet and HOT and one of the biggest surprises of this year for me.

4. togawanozue – old fashion cupcake. if i were better with words i would honestly spend hours waxing poetry about this show and these two. maybe it’s because im closer in age to them compared to the majority of pairings in BL shows, but they are just so very dear and so very important to me. their narrative is all about the possibility of discovering yourself and finding love at any age and it’s being told through what im quickly realizing it’s becoming one of my favorite tropes: food and hunger and starvation as a metaphor for intimacy.

5. danyok – not me. unlike the first four couples, it was extremely hard for me to pick one for the fifth place. there were way too many contenders and yet none of them felt as right as danyok. my feelings for them are very complicated and i don't think i will ever be able to forgive the writers for what they did to them in episode 13, but despite everything they still mean the world to me and there must be a reason if almost a year later i still can't get over them. i guess being seen for who you are and being loved anyway will never not make me lose my mind.
