Wyll let her sleep-in that morning, sneaking out of bed once she had loosened her grip on him and closing the curtains extra tight before he went downstairs to get ready for the day ahead.
He understood that she would hate not being out in the city helping people but she needed at the very least one day of rest.
Calpurnia had been going out every single day for the last two months to help out in the Lower City, clearing rubble, healing who she could, praying over others. Wyll had been out there most days as well, though recently he had started getting prepared to be officially named Duke of Baldur’s Gate.
“You let me sleep.” Calpurnia announced herself and Wyll closed the basket in front of him.
“Yes, well,” he responded, watching as she descended in her nightgown and waltzed right over to his side, “you promised to rest for the day.”
“I would still like to be up before midday.” She smiled, hugging his arm.
Even just after a longer rest than usual and she looked more at peace than she had in a while.
“What’s in there?” She gestured to the basket before wrapping her arms around his midsection.
“You’ll find out soon enough, my love. Go get dressed.”
Taking her hand away, Calpurnia continued eyeing the basket suspiciously, “did you convince me to rest just so you can take me out on a date?”
“A hearty meal will help you feel more rested. There’s a dress waiting on the chair beside your vanity.” Wyll kissed the top of her head before she unlinked from him and went back to the stairs.
Wyll had set them up in a secluded clearing in the unkempt back garden of the Ravengard Manor, it was quiet and serene, there was just enough of a lovely breeze to make sure it wasn’t too warm amongst the foliage.
Leaning against his betrothed, they had nearly finished their meal and sat in silence as Calpurnia wrapped an arm around his midsection and melted into his touch.
“So what made you think of this, Mister Blade of Frontiers?”
“I came to the realization recently that I never properly courted you. The way I would’ve liked and I’ve been dwelling on it, thinking hard about what we could do in the city and where I could take you.”
Wyll stopped, uncharacteristically unsure about how to phrase what he wanted to say as he felt a cold hand against the seam on his open shirt, an innocent slip of her hand but it got his mind racing nonetheless.
“Admittedly I would be over the moon to do anything with you.” She responded.
“And I, you.”
