thinking about childhood friends sanuso au again because i was talking on twt about it but i'm really, really fond of the idea of usopp "recruiting" sanji to be apart of his pirate crew and becomes first mate of the usopp pirates and they eventually do go out adventuring together when they're older and of course sanji is very protective of his captain (as any first mate is).

when they eventually do join the strawhats, sanji makes a point to tell luffy "listen, you may be my captain now, but Longnose over there was my captain first" and usopp gets so embarrassed about it ("cmon sanji we were just kids....that doesnt technically count!") but he's also really happy he's still got his best friend because he did have the fear of sanji getting upset with him for "giving up" being the captain of his own crew.
