i keep seeing people mischaracterize Jax and im going insane

if you think that Jax is an asshole and simply does things for the sake of being an asshole you are wrong (/lhj dont cancel me pls) because if you actually look closer and think about the littler details of his pranks and such there's likely a deeper reason behind it. yes some of the things he does are mean but he never pushes it. like with Ragatha when he teased her about putting a centipede in her room even though it's clear he's never done it to this point (and they've all been there a while), he's just saying it as a form of teasing to help distract Ragatha from the breakdown she was just having.

you'll remember too in the scene slightly before this that he put Gangle and Kinger together despite Ragatha not being quite as confident in his decision. that's because Jax knows them well enough to realize they'd be the best team to at least find where Zooble went before he could get back to help.

third point is simply that you never see Jax taking a bit too far and someone actually being upset over it. you simply don't. and i think that's for a reason. we all know Jax is the youngest in TADC and my personal belief is that all of his pranks and such are meant not simply to be pranks but as more of a distraction to keep the others' minds off their situation. again, Jax is not simply being mean because of anything, he's trying to help the others maybe the only way he knows how to.
