I never finished the original psychonauts or played psychonauts 2 but the little i did play was really fun! Its very silly for people to call it obsolete because theres a brand spanking new sequel when the reason there even is one is because it became such a cult classic for its writing and gameplay. Especially because as far as i know psychonauts 2 is still, like, a continuation of psychonauts? Very silly.

no literally... its a wildly beloved game that managed to get a sequel 16 years later despite being a bit of a flop at first for a reason!! and yeah it is a direct follow up, and like. while you can technically play 2 without the first since they do provide a little recap at the start, i think thats more for people that haven't played 1 in awhile, not to supplant the actual experience lol... drives me a little crazy sometimes.
