Telepath was gone, ran the second the news of AJ's death rang through their house's telephone. Emmy had left, the one that managed to slip through the Handler's disgusting claws. Veracity was left with an empty house and empty illusions, locked in a cage with too many memories and too little substance for her to survive on... though, the voice in her had stopped yelling for a while now, so at least she had one less thing to go mad about. The only thing keeping her sane was puzzling about where these scrapes and cuts came from... she was locked in and closed off from the outside world, so how would she have gotten hurt? Without even realizing it, no less -- did she have a sleepwalking problem and no one ever thought to tell her? Or was the Commission out to get her even in her sleep?

The Handler actually did it. Mirage couldn't feel Veracity's presence in their body anymore. Where there were Veracity's stupid little paintings and sketches was only empty headspace, it was as if her sister was never there. Like if she was written off the pages of existence. Like Mirage was the only person inhabiting this body. She should be glad -- relieved even, that there wasn't a nagging goody-goody voice telling her off, that she didn't have to wrestle for control when her sister's guard was down. But the thing is: she was going to die soon, too. Locked in a tomb six feet under with a gunshot to the heart and a stab wound through the stomach, Mirage knew it was only a matter of time before she joined Veracity. But she couldn't die, not yet. She needed to string the goddamn Handler on a rope. Mirage couldn't die, not yet...

⇝ seeing as all three of them die at some point in canon but not a single one of them got a grave for someone to sit at, I will be using an au where the commission is also alive for this question:

Mirage would stay the longest at Emmy's grave, but on record it would be Emmy's friend group, The Emmies (yes every single person in the group can have their name nickname into Emmy, no I have not figured out the name of all of the friends) since Mirage would stay invisible every time she stops in front of their grave. she also leaves the newest models of motorbikes in front of Emmy's grave whenever a new one comes out, since the only thing Mirage is sure Emmy loves are motorbikes. Telepath only stopped in front of Emmy's grave once during the funeral (he's in denial).

Emmy and Mirage would reconcile when they meet time and time again at Telepath's grave, and perhaps they would also meet his roommates, Romina and Tomi, on some of those trips -- Emmy figures out that Telepath and his roommate's relationship is not purely friendship the third time they meet, and it's a bitter pill to swallow when they realize that Telepath never told them about it, or the fact that Romina was the one to introduce him to his favorite hobby, painting, instead of him just taking it up like he told them.

I like to think that Herb or Dot would be the ones that come to Mirage's grave most often. Just coming by to dust off any debris that might have accumulated during the workweek and refreshing the flowers with a new bouquet. Emmy might come once a month or so to talk to Mirage, but Telepath would only come on their shared birthday and talk about how the year has been for him (he thinks that he can detect some activity when he does that, but he's not sure). If this takes place where Firage are together, I think Five would be heavy denial about Mirage's death and not broach the topic altogether (which is why in the good canon Five dies first <33)

Before The Time When Everything Went To Shit™, Mirage liked playing darts; but then Everything Went To Shit™ happened and now Mirage can't help but associate the game with the time she used them to kill people. 0/10 would not recommend bc now she just can't play it without getting flashbacks but it's sad bc she does want to play

What’s their favorite drink that they’ve never recommended to anyone before?

Mirage loves the frappuccinos from starbucks but she does know that they're just overpriced shit so she doesn't introduce anyone to that

How loose is their use of the phrase ‘I love you’?

Saying that would paint on huge target on the receiver in the Commission, so Mirage learned to never say it; instead she prefers phrases like I really like you or Are you going to stay for dinner?

What fact do they excitedly tell everyone about at every opportunity?

"The world championship boards aren't as hard as they think." -- Mirage Carmichael, every time someone brings it up

That one time Telepath tried to impress Dot and failed spectacularly when they were eleven; no there is no context for that

Mirage puts a cover on it to keep the oxygen out, from there it's just a matter of time

This is kind of a spoiler but whatever amirite? Mirage argues with her alt persona Veracity in her head

Emmy, Telepath, Veracity, and eventually all of the Umbrellas (Five in particular was faster than the other ones)

Mirage likes Emmy -- loves them actually -- but she just doesn't understand why they would choose listening to people's problems for a career, she thinks watching everyone's emotions change every single day of her life would be enough

There aren't any cookie jars at the Commission, but post-s4, I think Mirage would enjoy cinnamon cookies and have a jar of it in her apartment at all times

🌺 Does your OC have any tattoos or other body art? Does their body art have any specific meaning behind it? Do they have any scars? How did they get those scars? Any birthmarks?

one tattoo -- an emerald, which is her friend Emmy's favorite gem; the art is from the sketchbooks Telepath left behind when he escaped. Mirage got it during one of the Handler's missions to remind Veracity that she's still got people out there waiting for her

quite a few scars, which is to be expected since she is groomed to be a child soldier. Mirage can't tell you much about any of them because training blends the days together into one continuous cycle, but Veracity would point to one on their left torso and say that's the first, she'd say that it's from Lila copying her power to pull a sneak attack

🌠 Who was your OC’s first friend? Do they remember them or are they still friends now? Talk about some of the people your OC has lost contact with over the years. Do they have any regrets about losing these people and would they revisit them if they could?

first friend... from their shared memory, it's Emmy. they're still friends (at least, that's what Mirage and Veracity hope)

Mirage/Veracity lost contact with virtually everyone when the Handler got her, aside from regretting being caught by her in the first place, Mirage is sad that she's no longer part of Emmy or Telepath or the other workers at the Commission's lives, but in a different angle, she doesn't have any loose ends others could exploit anymore. so even after she wrestles back control, it isn't until the events of S3 that she reaches out to Telepath and Emmy, and if the Hargreeves didn't do that, she'd be content watching from a distance, too

more ruthless and blunt, Mirage's at the wheel most of the time, and they're both desensitized to violence. Mirage thinks this is an upgrade, but Veracity mourns the person she was before everything happened. If they could meet their younger self, Mirage would tell her to trust that everything will turn out in their favor, while Veracity would tell her to run with Telepath and convince Emmy to leave too

📀 How easy is it to shock your OC? To confuse them? To lie to them, to manipulate them? How are they with feelings of trust? Can your OC be trusted?

can Mirage be trusted? depends on what you ask her to trust you about. for her, there's only one person she trusts, and that's Veracity; as such, it's difficult to manipulate or trick her. outwardly she doesn't seem to get surprised or confused, but when S3 rolls around she's in a constant state of "wtf is happening" Blame it on knowing everything that has happened, is happening, and gonna happen via the Infinite Switchboard for most of her life

🍊 What is your OC’s favourite meal? Snack? Dessert? Drink? Any reasons behind this besides liking how it tastes?

Mirage likes sweets -- stuff with a bit of sourness, but mostly sugary. her favorite drink is the Starbucks Pink Drink, she saw people going crazy over it and used the recipe to make it herself (she claims she doesn't have a preference for it but she literally has it in her water bottle 24/7) no particular reason for this, she just likes how it tastes

🍒 What kind of things do they expect from their relationships? Does this differ between platonic relationships and romantic ones? Is your OC “demanding” or a doormat? What kinds of things do people expect from them in a relationship?

do not, and I repeat DO NOT be clingy with her, it turns her off completely. this is the golden rule for any sort of relationship with Mirage, if you try to stop her from doing stuff that needs to be done using reasons like " but I wanna cuddle with you :(((" she will ghost you. Mirage prefers someone who understands her need for space and can vibe with just being in the same room, they don't even have to be doing the same thing. other than that, she doesn't have much to ask from a partner; when Firage finally get to settle down after the story, they usually do things separately but prep something for the other person while doing their own thing if they think the other would want/need it, for example: if Mirage wakes up earlier, she measures out the coffee powder Five needs for his morning drink as she does her own and puts it in a container for him. so I guess in a relationship, people can expect Mirage to quietly do acts of service for them
