A walk through Bengal's architecture
Bengali architecture has a long and rich history, fusing indigenous elements from the Indian subcontinent with influences from other areas of the world. Present-day Bengal architecture includes the nation of Bangladesh as well as the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, and Assam's Barak Valley. West Bengal’s architecture is an amalgamation of ancient urban architecture, religious architecture, rural vernacular architecture, colonial townhouses and country houses, and modern urban styles. Bengal architecture is the architecture of Wind, Water, and Clay. The Pala Empire (750–1120), which was founded in Bengal and was the final Buddhist imperial force on the Indian subcontinent, saw the apex of ancient Bengali architecture. The majority of donations went to Buddhist stupas, temples, and viharas. Southeast Asian and Tibetan architecture was influenced by Pala architecture. The Grand Vihara of Somapura, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was the most well-known structure erected by the Pala rulers.

The Grand Vihara of Somapura
According to historians, the builders of Angkor Wat in Cambodia may have taken inspiration from Somapura. Bengal architecture became known for its use of terracotta due to the scarcity of stone in the area. Clay from the Bengal Delta was used to make bricks.
The temple architecture has distinct features like the rich wall decoration, often known as the terracotta temples, which was one of the remarkable elements of Bengali temple architecture. The double-roofed architecture of thatched huts was replicated by Bengali temples. Square platforms were used to construct the temples. Burnt brick panels with figures in geometric patterns or substantial sculptural compositions served as the temples' adornment.

Dochala style
These served as models for many temples that were built in undivided Bengal. Construction materials used in ancient times included wood and bamboo. Bengal has alluvial soil, so there isn't a lot of stone there. The bricks that were utilized to build the architectural components were made from stone, wood, black salt, and granite. Bengal has two different types of temples: the Rekha type, which is smooth or ridged curvilinear, and the Bhadra form, which has horizontal tiers that gradually get smaller and is made up of the amalaka sila. Mughal architecture, including forts, havelis, gardens, caravanserais, hammams, and fountains, spread throughout the area during the Mughal era in Bengal. Mosques built by the Mughals in Bengal also took on a distinctive regional look. The two major centers of Mughal architecture were Dhaka and Murshidabad. The do-chala roof custom from North India was imitated by the Mughals.

Influence of the world on Bengal architecture: Although the Indo-Saracenic architectural style predominated in the area, Neo-Classical buildings from Europe were also present, particularly in or close to trading centers. While the majority of country estates had a stately country house, Calcutta, Dacca, Panam, and Chittagong all had extensive 19th and early 20th-century urban architecture that was equivalent to that of London, Sydney, or other British Empire towns. Calcutta experienced the onset of art deco in the 1930s. Indo-Saracenic architecture can be seen in Ahsan Manzil and Curzon Hall in Dhaka, Chittagong Court Building in Chittagong, and Hazarduari Palace in Murshidabad.

The Victoria Memorial in Kolkata, designed by Vincent Esch also has Indo-Saracenic features, possibly inspired by the Taj Mahal. Additionally, Kolkata's bungalows, which are being demolished to make way for high-rise structures, have elements of art deco. The 1950s in Chittagong saw a continuation of Art Deco influences. The Bengali modernist movement, spearheaded by Muzharul Islam, was centered in East Pakistan. In the 1960s, many well-known international architects, such as Louis Kahn, Richard Neutra, Stanley Tigerman, Paul Rudolph, Robert Boughey, and Konstantinos Doxiadis, worked in the area.

This iconic piece of contemporary Bangladeshi architecture, was created by Louis Kahn. Midsized skyscrapers dominate the cityscapes of contemporary Bengali cities, which are frequently referred to as "concrete jungles." With well-known architects like Rafiq Azam, architecture services play a key role in the urban economies of the area. Overall Bengal architecture was influenced by various contemporaries of their time and continues to evolve.

"The Pistol." Introduction to the Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad, the Exploration of the Mysteries of the Metronome.
Tumblr media
The Rudrasksha Jabala Upanishad was written in the late 10th Century. It is numbered 73 of 108 and is contained in the Sama Veda. Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad is one of 14 Upanishads that comprise an exclusively Shaivite approach to Vedanta, meaning they explore the yoga of the monotheism of the god Shiva, the Destroyer of Ignorance.
Meditation upon Shiva is said to be most direct and most lasting way to realize the Self, the Supreme Personality that drives all that is pure and worthy of praise in the creation. The Upanishad focuses on the proper use of the mala, the string of sacred seeds called a rudraksha that tune the mind into the attributes of God that are the root drivers of the realization of the Self.
In the Book of Chronicles, Hiram, the King of Lebanon and his court teach Solomon and the Jews how to meditate on Shiva as an important aspect of building a Kingdom. Solomon must have believed him as he added the Four Vedas to the Temple Furnishings in the Upper Landing. It is not enough to talk about the Black Sea that separates the soul of man from the soul of God and study it or pray around it. One must be able to go back and forth with ease. For this one needs to study the Upanishads and become competent at going across the Sea and also going up the summit of Sinai if one wants to know all that can be known about the Most High.
Even the God of Israel acknowledges He dwells in between light and black. The text begins with a discussion between a man who is called the Pistol and Shiva Himself who explains time is like a string of beads one hundred crores in length. The days are best spent as if they are all “the right size”, each one spent in utter devotion to God.
To be devoted to the giving of the Ten Cows to society, and spend one day after another devoted to the fulfilment of the will of God is said to extend the value of life a thousand-fold plus one hundred fold:
Hail Om! I praise the Effulgent State of Absolute Peace, belonging to Sri Maharudra, which is to be known through the Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad.
Bhusunda “the pistol” questioned Lord Kalagnirudra “the fire at the end of time”: What is the beginning of Rudraksha beads? What is the benefit of wearing them on the body?
Lord Kalagnirudra answered him thus: I closed my eyes for the sake of destroying the Tripura Asuras (demons of the three types). From my eyes thus closed, drops of water fell on the earth.
These drops of tears turned into Rudrakshas. By the mere utterance of the name of ‘Rudraksha’, one acquires the benefit of giving ten cows in charity. By seeing and touching it, one attains double that benefit. I am unable to praise it any more. I closed my eyes one thousand celestial years.
Then from my eyelids, drops of water dropped down and attained the state of immobility for blessing the devoted persons. This Rudraksha destroys the devotees’ sins that are committed both night and day, by wearing it.
By mere vision of the Rudraksha, the benefit will be say, a lac. But by wearing them, it will be a crore. Why, it will be equal to hundred crores. But it will be a thousand lacs of crores and hundred lacs of crores times powerful when one does Japa with Rudraksha and wears it at all times.
Among Rudrakshas, one as big as Amalaka (myrobalan), is considered to be the best. One as big as the Badari fruit (Indian berry) is considered to be of the middle sort. But that as big as Chana (Bengal gram) is considered to be the worst of all. This is my idea about the size of Rudraksha beads.
We sin because we anticipate the end of time but have no plan for it. No one wants to die desireless, but how one would like to die and in what state is never discussed until it is too late. The God Shiva will destroy all time and all notions of mortality and immortality during the hour of death, but that sounds like no fun at all.
To be conscious of the importance of the days while they seem and feel long and long is the beginning of wisdom. The three demonic states, laziness, agitation, and extreme piousness, devotion to spiritual principals without merit, like excessive praying, Pro-Life, persecution of others for whatever reason, these cut the days short of their full potential for peace.
The Upanishad says far better are daily increments of the realization of the Self, called “drops of water across the closed eyes.” In the Quran, Muhammad says all religious things must result in a state far beyond them:
This is the Book of Allah, there is no doubt in it; it is a guidance for the pious for those who believe in the existence of that which is beyond the reach of perception, who establish Prayer and spend out of what We have provided them.
-Al Baqara 1-7.
To spend the days wisely as God has implied is a Commandment man has always chosen to ignore. Thus begins the Upanishad.

FOR 49 YEARS, THE BUDDHA USED EXPEDIENT MEANS TO SPREAD THE DHARMA, TEACHING THE ‘BLINDED’ MASSES TO OBSERVE THE TRUTH OF THE UNIVERSE
Master Jun Hong Lu: We can draw parallels between Shakyamuni Buddha observing the universe and a person with normal vision observing an elephant, while the approach taken by the science field is analogous to “a group of blind feeling an elephant” (mistaking the parts for the whole).
The realm of science is by no means capable of bringing out and portraying the fullness and the true nature of an elephant. This explains why the Buddha teaches us to ‘seek an understanding of the true nature of things and worry not about the inconsequential details’.
For some 49 years, the Buddha propagated the dharma using expedient means. He was both forthright and ingenious at applying a myriad of wondrous oratory methods in delivering His teachings. Technical aspects like the lengths of the elephant’s nose and tail were not what He wanted us to know. It was just a figure of speech to prompt the ‘blinded’ ones like us to open our eyes to see this world.
Some 2,500 years ago, the Buddha already saw planet earth and painted it as a round-shaped Amalaka fruit and this fact was only validated by scientists two millennia later.
He also revealed that there are eight-four thousand lives that take the form of microorganisms in a bowl of water. Thanks to the invention of the microscope because without which, humanity would not have known what bacteria are till this very day!
Scientific laws are formulated in a specific time and space. While Buddhist practitioners should be sensible of the existence of a specific order of the universe, they should also understand that as humans, we can make use of our own mind to design the life we want.
Be diligent and steadfast in your practice. If you do so, you will surely attain Buddhahood in the human realm, and be assured of returning to the embrace of the Buddha in heaven.

Triphala is one of the main herbal drugs that are used for detoxification and normalization of the gastrointestinal tract in ayurvedic medicine. It is used for several millennia. The mixture consists of a combination of three plants extracts, of which everyone has medical functions and their combination in one mixture enhances the effect of everyone individually. The plant Amla or Emblica officinalis is also known as Indian gooseberry, Nepalese gooseberry, amalaki, amalaka, emblik, myrobalan gray, aoula, topvi, avalkati and the elixir of youth. The plant is one of the most powerful antioxidants and belongs to the so-called myrobalan group. All 3 ingredients of Triphala, by the way, belong to the group of myrobalans, the main distinguishing feature of which is precisely the rejuvenating, antioxidant effect in relation to the human body. Emblica contains an Emblican component, this is an extract of the Amla fruit, whose antioxidant properties are cascading, since the action is based on the ability to isolate heavy metal ions, while simultaneously binding free radicals. The Atrocity of Natural Disasters (your way to proper Disaster Risk Reduction Management)
Tumblr media
We all know that the Philippines is well according to Wikipedia “ the most exposed country in the world to tropical storms” making it the country to be the most affected and a lot of disasters may happen in the long run.
As a student from the University of Santo Tomas, we are required in our National Training Service Program to get to interview our Barangay Chairman to get to know more about the disasters that is going on in our certain barangay and will be able to learn the Proper Disaster Risk Reduction Management incase a typhoon or a disaster might occur.
I went to our barangay hall in Pasong Buaya II Imus Cavite to interview Mr. Carlito Tagle. The following script is our conversation.
Me: Magandang Umaga po Mr. Carlito Tagle, ako po ay si Marielle R. Delica, ako po ay nag aaral sa University of Santo Tomas at pwede po ba kayo ma interview para po sana sa aming National Service Training Program tungkol sa Hazard Identification at Vulnerability, Elements and People at Risk Assesment.
Mr. Tagle: Sige walang problema iyon.
Vulnerability, Elements and People at Risk Assessment
Me: Saan ang may pinakamatinding mapipinsala?
Tumblr media
Well this is literally me after hearing Mr. Tagle’s responses to all my questions because first of all, medicine is really important whenever there would be disasters that would occur. If our barangay lacks supply of medicines then there would be a lot of people who will be greatly affected if disasters would happen.
In conclusion to my blog, it is best to listen and be aware of the news if ever pag-asa would make any announcements to disasters that would be coming. It is best to be prepared and to be knowledgable on what to do in the next few hours before the disaster.
