this is me trying is so them, like very heavily

they're both really at their core such sunshiney people who've been so broken down and used by the world that they've really been dulled. and reader is always quick to bite back, especially when she's scared or frustrated or doesn't want to reveal her emotions, she doesn't have a complete grasp on reality yet, she's scared of being left behind, scared that finnick will die, scared of being alone and frustrated that he broke his promise to her so she lashes out.

110% to both of those, like he's so broken up, aching for her, in pain, blaming himself for everything, but he has to be what's expected of him. some drinks, laughing, flirting, smiling, when all he wants to do his curl up in bed crying as he holds into some remant of hers that he held onto all this time.

in the context of the most recent chapter "I just wanted you to know that this is me trying" is so very much both of them for different reasons

finnick says the things he does and does what he does because he wants to help her get better, to be delicate with her, keep her safe, keep her protected from the dangers of the time and her mental state. he's trying his hardest even if he doesn't always handle it in ways that bode well.

reader is trying to be herself again, she just wants to be treated normally regardless of how that affects her. once she's her she'll be less paranoid, more trusting, she's trying so hard to replicate that so she can get there and feels like he's not letting her. that her attempts are being shut down.

they are the tragic lovers, so in love, so obsessed, and constantly fated for hurt after hurt. all I'm saying is to watch moulin rouge and think of them because it's so finnick and his sweet girl in another life.

LITERALLY THOUGH if she could've she would've followed him around like a lost puppy dog, it would have fed into the narrative about her, but she's so desperately in love that she would have waited so patiently. in a way she did, but if he'd told her he was breaking up with her for other girls she was so young and so already achingly in love with him that she would have kept trailing around waiting for him to come baxk

(side note, finnick is really the love sick puppy, but reader reminds me of a stray cat who picks someone to love, always waits to be fed by them. given a little bit of attention and now will be attached for the long run. I thought googles description was really funny because it's just so her "With time and patience, a stray cat may trust you and want pets consistently. If you have grown close to a stray cat, it may feel upset or distressed if you suddenly leave it." so yeah she's a stray cat who finally got some love before being suddenly stranded again)

ANYWAYS yes, the way he talks about her and paints the portrait of their relationship is so hurtful. she totally cries about it consistently because to her he's perfect, and although she largely wants to believe what he said when they broke up and trust he still loves her, a part of her can't help but feel so stupid for letting herself be lead on by someone who's been said to be a playboy anyway. it makes her so insecure, so much more guarded, but she doesn't hate him, no she could never. she's in love with him. no matter what he says or does she's long placed her roots and won't tear them up.

that's literally the most them interaction to have never ever interacted, some of her tears have welled up, she's choking on pushed down sobs, and insisting that she's okay even though Finnick can read her like a book. he's softly scolding her for lying while she continues to try and insist until she's completely broken down into sobs.

reader could have the roughest day ever and still insist that she's fine, comfort finnick, love on him, hold him, and he spends the time hating that he's enjoying the loving when she's so obviously lying, masking everything. it's such a paradox. meanwhile she feels terrible for aching comfort because of things she does, she wants to suffer, but the lure of giving into finnick's arms is too much sometimes. especially knowing that he loves her so much and so well. she just has to let herself take what she needs even if she hates herself or it later.

My thing is the cauldron loves Elain, like canonically obsessed w her so why would it give her a "bad" mate?

Why would it "curse" her to be with Lucien. I think it knew Lucien and her deserved each other. Lucien is one of if not the only good person (maybe Nesta but yall fr ain't ready for that convo) in this world. He never hurt anyone and did shitty things on purpose to people or enacted a personally vendetta that got ppl killed...

In his head giving Elame space is the only thing and the best thing. Even if he was trying she refuses to talk to him, look at him, or even give him any semblance of a chance. So if he was sticking around trying mad hard yall would just say he was trying to force a mating bond she doesn't want.

On top of that Azriel wants a mate, he's been waiting hundreds of years and he wants what his brothers have... which is a mating bond. He only thinks he deserves Elain bc his brothers got a sister. He pined after Mor knowing it would go nowhere and I think he started that w Elain be he thought the same thing. He has deep rooted self hatred and he thinks he doesn't deserve to be loved so as some weird defensive mechanism he only loves ppl who he knows/thinks won't love him back. I wholeheartedly believe if he found his mate in the next book he would choose her over Elain.

Just circling back rq, Elain was born human and made fae. The mating bond isn't as important to her as the other fae or even her other sisters (if anything Feyre and Nesta had the bond forced onto them) bc her mate isn't hanging around doing everything to make her love him.. he's trying to respect her choice and give her distance to sort out being fae... like a hundred years to find herself (it's only fair since he himself has been alive for hundreds of years... more considerate than some of the other mates imo).

I think Elain just has a lot of resentment towards being made fae and a big part of being fae is having a mate so she resents that too. I KNOW if she took time to get to know Lucien and gave him a chance she would fall in love oc he has a pure heart and a good moral compass and personality.

I also feel like I just read like four books going on and on about the joys of being mated only to have that undermined and basically show that it's all pointless bo they even tho they're"perfect" and "made for each other" they could still go out and find someone "better"?? Come tf on neowww😭😭

Honestly just Pro Lucien fr, one of the only ppl that genuinely deserves his happy ending, Elame could've rejected him years ago and he could be moving on but she's stringing him along?? bambi is bubbly, and sweet, and lovely! as a funshine bear rising, she does her best to see the silver lining of every rain cloud - but as a grumpy bear moon, she can't help but fall dejected fast sometimes! on the bright side, when bambi is dejected it's kind of like when a small dog refuses to get out of bed? if you bring her a cup of hot chocolate and offer to watch a musical on DVD with her, she'll usually crawl out.

bambi is extremely giving: she loves to buy gifts, she loves to make clothes for people, and she loves to host little togethers (slumber parties especially)! her generosity may be to her detriment in the grand scheme of things, though, because sometimes it seems like she might have that obedience curse from ella enchanted. nine times out ten, you can tell her to jump, and she'll ask how high! she'll give you the dress she's literally wearing if she's got another stuffed in her bag - and she usually does!

obviously she's nice - you can't do all she does without being nice - but if you look a little closer, you might see her as the voracious people pleaser that she is. do her actions make people feel good? absolutely! but with selfish intentions (even if pleasing her own emotional compulsion is completely harmless to others) she's not getting into the good place any time soon. not until she sees a therapist, at least! but she can't help herself. all bambi has ever really wanted is friends, and a new family since she left her own.

the family trauma!!! ;pppp:

bambi's parents let her have her bratz dolls, and her bears, but she was also forced into some ideals that were a little too strict for her free spirit. growing up catholic is hard, fr. it came with too many rules, and too much guilt to handle. the constant threat of hellfire, and getting ostracized for being who she really is was the final straw for the sweet hearted girl!!! one night she wrote a goodbye note, and slipped out her window. she's kept in touch with some of them over the years (her siblings at least, mom and dad more or less ignore her existence) but she's more or less been missing from their lives since she was sixteen years old.

bambi has been living with her aunt in new zeppelin since she ran away from home. she finished high school in the city, of course, vehemently refusing to let herself miss out on prom, and homecoming games, and the formative friendships! but since her aunt couldn't exactly support a whole entire teenager, she's basically been working full time she arrived. balancing high school and her entire work schedule was tough, but at least she learned how to hustle! exactly what she needs if she's going to break into the fashion world anytime soon. ( she's only been trying for the last six years! )

bambers is maaad insecure. not only did she break away from her family way too early (like a kitten leaving it's mama before the 8 week mark), but her parents sort of instilled a lot of weird feelings in her!!! like she isn't good enough no matter how hard she tries!!! she overthinks everything, she's always kinda wondering what's wrong with her (even if a lot of it is internal wondering) and she has a hard time accepting that she's actually got friends! sometimes to the point that it might be hurtful to the people who care about her!!

bambi basically tells NOBODY about her past!!! NEVER believe her if she excuses herself by saying her mom is calling, because it's not true. she literally lies about her family all the time!!! sometimes she'll tell people she's going home for the holidays, and then jet off to La Colony to buy cheap fabric and eat chinese food!!! she just does not want to be seen as THAT girl, yk? her grumpy bear days are one thing, but she refuses to be the broken-no-family-basically-an-orphan-girl!

bambi like,,, grew up on romance and fairy tales, and it grew into a delusional state about what romance looks like, and an idealized version of what she wants her romantic life to be!! despite the fantasies in her head, men really just are not her strong suit, as much as she wishes they were. to be fair, she might be a little overbearing... not to say that she's creepy, or anything!!! but she's got a big, big heart, and she falls quick. guys tend to friend zone her, disappear, or end up totally hurting her... but she also has a hard time seeing red flags!!! and is totes easy to manipulate. yikies. she's the owner of a lonely heart, fr, but she's holding out hope that she'll get her fairy tale romance one day.

I've always loved roleswap aus as a concept, and yours is the perfect example of why. it's all about the balancing act of twisting the (swapped) character's background/mentalities for maximum domino effect while not actually *destroying* the character ya know? you still gotta recognize them, it's half of the fun. just some little nudges here... and there... with the delightful result of a changed plot/world that you can discover anew

I'm literally a week late for that but chapter 4 may be my favorite so far. it's got it all: Ww's bloodlust coming through and being given a GUN, M&M being #JustNormalGunsmokeKidsThings about it, Knives being incredibly tired and enthusiastically murderous in turns, TRANS PEOPLE!! Funky morally dubious trans men ! Intersex nonbinary Knives (in humans terms) !! small internal rants about ecosystems!

I particularly like that one bc I too found myself twitching whenever I see (in fics or fandom at large) Gunsmoke being shown as a ~hostile, barren~ planet when, like.... *waves agitedly at the Tomases* *waves frantically at the WORMS, in all their INCREDIBLY DIVERSIFIED sizes and shapes* tell me there isn't an entire ecosystem supporting and including these bad boys. And god do I wanna know about it. Terraforming this terraforming that. Enough. I want bio-worldbuilding fics that are just as weird and unhinged as the rest of trigun (2/3)

To go back to Nicholas : I loved his discussion with Knives about fate and predestination and stuff (esp since -I may be reading too much into it, but it’s interesting that Knives says he doesn’t believe in predestination anymore, and just a bit later goes about how his personality is Like That bc he’s Biologically Programmed for it), and his last words in it are especially ominous. WHAT were you gonna say about Vash. How does it concern Nicholas. This is gonna bite them in the ass later isn’t it.

Also ur last asks/answers REALLY doesn’t reassure me about woowoo’s fate. Is he gonna die. Is he gonna end up going thru the same things than his canon counterpart (concentrate of medical-and-general unethicality). Idk what those flags are for but boy They Are There.

Roleswaps are no fun if you can't recognize the character. You're absolutely right - the funnest part is to make the smallest changes possible, and see how they cause the biggest differences. That's true of every AU, honestly - you guys know those 600k shonen manga aus where something major is different but every story beat is identical to canon? Or they're identical to every other au? They're addictive but without substance. Also sounds boring to write.

It's so funny that you (and others) vibe with Dr. Knives! From my end, he has my own very wry deadpan and self-esteem problems. Characters who have both a ridiculously inflated ego for comedy purposes and some real self-esteem problems for drama purposes work great.

I was surprised that so many people enjoyed the trans thing so much! I didn't expect it to make people so happy. Of course it's a nice surprise. I don't remember why I made the BDN decision (funny, probably) or the 'Knives invented gender reassignment surgery' thing (funny definitely), but a very active decision and something that made Knives above every other character fun to write is that he is not a human being and does not think of himself as such. The way his body experiences emotion is different, his body itself is different in a way that probably includes genitalia, and there's no reason for him to experience gender the same way. As I'm about to talk about in the upcoming chapter, he casually refers to himself as a thing and with it/its and it doesn't affect his superiority complex whatsoever.

I...would not have said that this is trans by myself, if that makes sense, because I wouldn't have wanted to say "in order to really hammer in how this character is INHUMAN then I'm gonna make him not male or female and prefer neopronouns!". It's just the shape of the character, to me. BUT LIKE IF Y'ALL LIKE IT! NO PROBLEM! I was just worried I might be saying the wrong thing, so I didn't want to say it, if that makes sense. Y'all can say it though.

Trigun worldbuilding is nonsensical and hideously vague and as a writer if you stop and think too hard about silly questions like "where does the wood come from" or "why is Vash eating salmon sandwiches" then you go insane. But...yeah, Gunsmoke's like any other ecosystem, and its worms and thomases seem to be doing great! It's not Gunsmoke's fault it is almost completely uninhabitable to humans. It sucks for us, but...does Knives care about that??? Lmfao???

There is a shitton to say about Knives' relationship with predestination and inevitability, because it's why he made the worst decision of his life. I think of it as...reasonable, in a lot of ways. If all you knew about humanity was what you read in history textbooks, and human history ended with the destruction of Earth and themselves, how would you feel? Everything humans have done, they do again. And if they dissected your sister, in an act of cruelty that they had done to even themselves...of course you'd worry. Of course. If you're young and scared and you can hear the screams of the dead in your ears, of course you feel like it's going to be you or them. And if you're.........Millions Knives.......and reverse!Vash.....then eliminating the threat is just good business sense.

And you aren't reading too much into it - Trigun in so many ways is about choices, and the impact of your choices. Your decisions are you own, and you must take responsibility for them. Decisions have weight in Trigun. I think what ppl miss sometimes about Vash is that he also wants to fuckin' murder people sometimes. He wants to be violent, he wants to hurt. He just chooses not to. Sometimes choosing pacifism is a hard fucking choice, and I think wiping that away does a disservice to the character. So if Knives would say, "Well, it's just who I am, I had no choice, I had no control, I just go nuts and murder it's not on me..." - what does that mean, in Trigun? It's??? Like??? A pussy thing to say???

But, the way I thought about it - what Knives is fighting is his internal sense that he is predestined for cruelty. He knows "who he really is" and any attempt at goodness is futile, because he's secretly bad and will always be bad. And he fucks up sometimes and starts exploding worms. But Knives chooses goodness, and I don't think he's really cottoned on that his choice to do good is more important than his internal desires to do bad and his history of badness. Because he hates himself.

I think what Knives knows now as an adult is that our lives have paved a path for us to tread. Sometimes that path is innocent, and sometimes your life paves a very nasty path. But it's our choice if we walk it or not. Knives knows what his path is, and it gives him extreme shame - but he chose which one he walked, and that's what I judge him on. Still funny how much he loves murder though.

Just saw your post and I'm kinda want to share my thoughts for the self aware au sksnksan (kinda a bit shy HAHAHABA👉👈)

It's all started when I encounter self aware au Genshin, well ofc they all Yandere. It's fun to see there's a lot of headcanon lol. And then I enter SAGAU Genshin where it's the reader is the "imposter" and "God", it was fun at first reading it but I find myself not enjoy it since I find op reader kinda boring and I don't really like how all the characters worship and obsessed them isneiww but of course, this is my preference and I don't mean anything offensive. (Well, this means I'm not really a fan of harem jansia) Also it's quite rare to see the non-yandere self aware one 😂 although ig I still enjoy the yandere one haha

Anyways, I always thinking when the reader suddenly isekai to the game, I think they will started to notice the change of behaviors of the characters than how they act in-game, depends how observant they are.

Like hey, have you noticed how Riddle seems to nervous around you? That's quite weird isn't it? Have you done something wrong? Hm, maybe it's nothing! Is it just me or did Leona kinda clingy than usual? Is he like this in-game? Also I swear that Azul always almost lose his composure. I wonder what's wrong... Kalim is the same sunshine as always... but something feels wrong, but what is it wrong? His behavior never change... Right? Depending on the player's personality, they will probably more open up to the characters they simp or pretend they never seen this person for the rest of their life. If it were me, I would pretend like "Omg! What is this world?! Totally did not play this game or know the characters! Hahaha!" even if they are secretly obsessed with the player, you never know if they truly know they are just a bunch of characters slap into the game for entertainment purpose. You don't want to make the situation more weirder, do you? Let's pretend we did not heard any characters simping for the player, haha- oh shit wait, why are they attacking each other-

Although the self aware au are fun and games especially yandere, let's imagine yourself fr Isekai in the game and all the characters obsessed with you. I hope you mentally prepared for that haha :) It may be a very scary experience but who knows some ppl into it

People say they will fix the obsessive and tragic characters, but how about fix yourself first?/lh

Okay but fr, it will be kinda cool chatting with the self aware characters but imagine you got slap into the game and after getting close to the characters you like, imagine you kinda want to tell them the truth and be like:

“Hey, you're a game character btw.”

“Oh dw, I know.”

“Haha that's great! Wait what.”

Tbh if you write yandere you sometimes have to say “Uh... this not only kinda but very wrong.” (bc there will always people who will be like “I want to have such a relationship!” no, no you don't) and I couldn't find anything offensive until now so dw. (I think there is nothing offensive in there? Tell me if I'm wrong. Maybe I'm already too tired to think straight.) And it's your opinion on the SAGAU. Totally fine. If people are mature enough they will just be like “ok. Their opinion. Not the law of the world.”
