this is mean but when people try to do the 'period piece but with homophobia surgically removed from society & nothing else changed' it's like. where is the period part of this period piece. how did we get here. why not make it fantasy or something

#tbc I'm all for happy stories & ones without gratuitous violence or whatever. but when you pretend it never existed or smth. what #I could write so much abt why it's deeply unsatisfying wrt denying characters a concept of their own queerness shaped by their environment #and also how homophobia is inextricable from misogyny & gender roles that shape the look of the period.#but I suspect none of this is intended for me as a reader anyways so I'll just be mean in a short tumblr post instead of a long one #afdksjhaslkfjakjdf #thoughts
