Fic: Crush Into Me (7/?)
Summary:  Third year NYADA student, Kurt, returns to Lima for an internship coaching the Glee club. The leather jacket and eyebrow ring-clad senior, Blaine, thinks he’s cute.

Day Seven (Blaine) (word: rhythm):
The next week Blaine waits outside the choir room for the Glee club to let out. Santana usually comes to meet him after Glee under the bleachers but it’s cold out today so he’ll just wait inside. Even though he’s pretty sure Santana left at lunch time for a dentist appointment.
“Oh! Hey Blaine,” Mercedes exits the choir room, surprised at the unexpected guest. “Have you changed your mind and decided to grace us with your presence at Glee this year? We could use another tenor, you know. But I’m afraid rehearsal is over for the day.”
“Thanks Mercedes, but no. Just waiting for Santana.”
“Oh Santana’s not here. She left for an appointment,” Kurt says as he follows Mercedes out.
“Damn,” Blaine shakes his head and looks at Kurt. “Guess I forgot.” He starts to walk down the hall in step with him. “Now there’s no one to tell me this week’s assignment. To practice in my shower, of course. I did kind of nail ‘Crush’, right?” He smiles playfully at Kurt. He may be laying it on a bit thick but he’s sure he saw Kurt staring with surprised approval when he sang with Puck. And he wants Kurt to see that he’s not just some flunking kid with a bad attitude. He may look good in leather but he’s acing math and he can sing. Which is no doubt important to a third year NYADA student.
Kurt smiles but bites his lip quickly almost to stop himself. “You certainly can sing, Blaine. But the whole thinking you’re too cool for the Glee club vibe isn’t going to impress Mercedes and me. We are literally here to run the Glee club, remember?”
“I don’t think I’m too cool for the Glee club,” Blaine is genuinely surprised. He doesn’t.
“‘Not really my scene,’” Kurt quotes him back to himself as Blaine follows him into the parking lot of the school.
Blaine knows how he can sound. He sounds that way on purpose. There’s a rhythm to his demeanor - cool, aloof. Laying low and has no time for all this school spirit stuff. But that was the deal with his parents. And to keep a low profile he has to at least have an aura of mystique to him - the alternative as the quiet earnest kid in preppy clothes would be social suicide. And likely have the opposite effect.  Bully target guaranteed. “Yeah, well. I had to transfer schools in my senior year. And part of the deal was to stay out of trouble.”
“Because Glee club leads to a life of petty crime?” Kurt’s not quite getting it. “Or failing grades?”
“Or a slushie in the face?”
Kurt stops in his tracks, looking questioningly at Blaine and finally nods. “Ahh I see. But with all that attitude you look like you had to transfer because you threw the slushies.”
“Ha!” Blaine shakes his head. “Definitely not. My parents made me transfer, not the school, when the resident bullies decided they had enough of the out gay kid.” Blaine looks down. Vulnerability is way harder than bravado. Then he feels a hand on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry, Blaine. Honestly. If it helps, no slushies for being gay in the choir room. I helped make sure of that.” Kurt knocks gently into his side. It’s nice.  “Worst consequence in Glee is having to sit through a singer with mediocre rhythm or who just can’t harmonize. And your look at least makes you seem like you could kick any bully’s ass, by the way. Even if it’s not true.” Blaine will take that compliment.
“Oh I can,” Blaine says flatly, bravado slightly back. But he’s smiling. “I took up boxing. You can come watch me spar one day.”
Kurt rolls his eyes but Blaine sees affection this time. It’s progress. “How about you join the Glee club instead?”
“How about we meet for coffee at the Lima Bean and you can tell me about  the Glee club and coming out in sophomore year at McKinley and all that,” Blaine continues before Kurt can react. “Santana told me.”
“Thanks Mr. Schue,” Kurt sighs. “I guess my life history is common Glee club knowledge now.” Kurt pauses and crosses his arms. He seems to be searching Blaine’s face for something. He’s leaning on a car that Blaine assumes is his and that he is about to make his exit in. “Look Blaine,  I remember being out in high school and alone. If you want a friend to share the McKinley history of triumphs and tribulations, let’s do coffee.”
“I do, want a friend,” Blaine repeats, a bit giddy. “And a coffee.”
“Yes,” Kurt looks at Blaine meaningfully. “A friend. Because Blaine?” Blaine bites his lip to keep from smiling too widely. “This week’s Glee club theme is,” Kurt looks at him pointedly. “Unrequited.”

Cream And Sugar
Chapter 1
While the rest of the Glee club was out vacationing in various spots on the East Coast, Kurt was working at the Lima Bean. Don’t get him wrong, he seriously loves his job, whether it be making coffee or laughing in the back with his coworkers, he really didn’t mind the barista life. The only things that got in the way of him fully enjoying work life, is the fact that he’s working towards his NYADA fund. Constantly punching numbers and trying to figure out how all of it is going to add together, then there’s Blaine. Beautiful, talented, and perfectly put together, Blaine Anderson, who he hasn’t been able to spend more than a few hours with over the past few months. He gets texts and calls from Blaine everyday saying how he feels that they are drifting, falling apart, then Kurt feels bad and rambles to Blaine he would quit if he could, that he needs to pay for NYADA and he misses him too.
A voice speaks up, snapping Kurt out of his dreamy thought of his relationship drama, “Hey sweetheart, looking real busy over there, mind getting me a coffee?”
Kurt snaps his head up, not only at the nickname but at the familiar tone of the voice, the smirk that he can hear in it.
“Sebastian. To what do I owe the pleasure?” Kurt answers, sarcasm practically dripping off his tongue. Kurt tries to remind himself that he’s on the clock and he keeps the choice words to himself and gives Sebastian a once over as he looks over the menu. A flash of anger runs through Kurt’s eyes as he remembers what happened between his current boyfriend and the man standing a few feet in front of him. He pushes that to the back of mind, tucking it back in the spot it’s always been in.
“Caramel Macchiato. Hot.” Sebastian says without his eyes meeting Kurt’s, showing how little respect he has for the barista. Kurt decides not to ask what size and just assume it’s grande.
“5.25.” Kurt says flatly, watching as Sebastian pulls out a slick, thin wallet, a wallet which Kurt remembers used to be thicker, Kurt’s suspicions are cut short as Sebastian throws six dollars on the counter, still not meeting Kurt’s eyes. Rolling his eyes, Kurt picks up the money and puts it in the drawer, hoping this interaction to be over, grabbing the changing and setting it on the table.
“It’ll be on the counter over there in just a minute.” Kurt says through a sigh, pointing right. Sebastian nods and walks over to the tables, pulling out a chair and sitting down. Kurt returns to his task, making Sebastian’s stupid coffee.
He feels Sebastian’s eyes on him as he steams the milk but keeps focusing on the task at hand. His head whips around once the door to the back of the coffee shop opens, revealing his manager, Dennis, walking out. A tall man, with a kind aura, kind of like an overtly large child, he shoots Kurt a smile to which Kurt politely returns.
“Got a new trainee for you today Kurt buddy!” His manager calls loudly, making Kurt jump a little and look around for anyone new in the shop. He walks over to the counter with Sebastian’s coffee then his eyes widen slightly when he realizes who his manager is actually talking to, the very person who this coffee was for.
Sebastian Smythe.
Kurt gulps as he sets the coffee down, not even bothering to call out his name, as Sebastian was already standing on the other side of the counter, speaking with his manager. There is no doubt in Kurt’s mind, this is going to be hell. Having to teach the unteachable, talk to the person who doesn’t listen? Kurt takes a deep breath and walks around the counter to where Dennis is waving him over happily oblivious to the relationship between the two boys
“So…” Dennis claps his hands, creating a slight echo, “Kurt! Here is your new trainee, Sebastian Smythe.” Dennis gestures to Sebastian, who looks equally as pained as Kurt. Dennis has yet to notice the grimaces on both the boys faces as he smiles and pats them both on the back.
“This isn’t Kurt’s first-time training, so you’ll be in good hands Sebastian. I believe you’ll behave as well, wouldn’t want me to report to Morgan…” Dennis trails off with a small laugh. The laugh grows larger when he sees Sebastian’s reaction to his sister’s name.
“Alright boys! I got some more boring paperwork to do, but go ahead and get him started Kurt, you know what you’re doing!” Dennis walks gleefully back towards the door to the back of the café, waving back at the boys as he shuts the door behind him, ultimately leaving them alone.
“Okay...” Kurt sighs, and mumbles grievances under his breathe as he picks up the training binder left behind for him by Dennis, “Let’s get this over with...”
Sebastian smirks at the obvious annoyance in Kurt’s tone and laughs, sitting down and kicking his legs up on the chair beside him, “Alright Princess, you better not screw this up.”
He sips his coffee with a smirk while Kurt sits down across from him, staring him down like he wanted to make him disappear with just a thought. Kurt only wishes Sebastian would disappear, but he is pushing through.
This is for my future, this is for NYADA, this is for Broadway, Kurt repeats in his head as he opens the binder to start what might be the worst work experience he will ever have, and he’s worked with Rachel.
