treated myself to the very short beginning section of three houses just now but i had to stop n turn off my switch when the game asked me to pick a house bc i started agonising over whether to go w edelgard first or just jump straight into the claude route
#x#fe posting#everyone and their momma says to leave verdant wind for last bc it’s the most satisfying to tie up all loose ends route#and to do azure moon or crimson flower first. bc they work better as one of the first routes#and i TOLD myself ok ok sure i’ll do edelgard first then that’s fine. i like her and a lot of the black eagle characters im sure it’ll be#fun. but meeting claude in game and giggling n twirling my hair over everything he says is KILLING MEEEEEE i can’t abandon him i can’t IM#GONNA FEEL SOOOO BAD#he’s so charming crying real tears rn. i Know what i need to do but man…. pain n suffering …#i remember seeing a take somewhere once that said smth abt how claude gets so permanently shut out of the true potential of his goals on any#route that doesn’t pick him bc he doesn’t get the chance to really establish himself / figure out all the secrets of the game#and so he’s just narratively. barred/locked out from his dreams for good. and ever since i read that it makes me wanna crawl up n DIE when#i think abt it CLAUDE. CLAUDEEEEEEEEEEEE 😭😭😭😭😭😭#also just in general he’s SOO funny and quirky i love him so much he only said like maybe ten lines total but he’s literally such a riot#playing the game while knowing what his entire deal is is HILARIOUS he’s so fucking funny. and painfully tragic even from the get go. AUGH#one of his first things being calling himself the embodiment of distrust is so. it’s just so!!!!! like he WANTS u to know it’s all an act#EVERYONE knows it he’s not being subtle at all BUT THATS THE POINT!!!!! bc if everyone knows it’s an act that he plays around w then they#wont go snooping around as much!!!! AUGHHHHHHHHH !!!! CLAUDE !!!!#im going crazy i shouldn’t have played this i need to finish my last assignment first. n then i can lose my mind over claude#OHHH also can i just say his + edelgards first interactions are SOOOOO funny they’re so much fun. i love their little banter n back n forth#literally iconic showstopping no one can top them EVER#anyways. it’s almost 3am i need to sleep n write my essay tmrw lol

Lysithea: … Edelgard: Lysithea? Are you all right? You don't look well... L: Huh? Oh! No, no—I'm fine! Really. Just not accustomed to so much manual labor. E: You were cleaning the library...all by yourself? L: Yes. The other student who was assigned to tidy up with me wasn't feeling well, so it's just me. L: I figured I could at least dust the bookshelves or something, but I...uh...I got a little carried away. E: So many books... You probably tired yourself out just moving them from the shelves. L: As much as I love books, I can't say I love carrying stacks of them to and fro. They're so heavy. E: Well… Maybe you should think things through a little more next time. L: Surely you can tell how much physical strength a job is going to require before you begin. E: I can do without the condescension, thanks. L: After all, I'm the only one who has to deal with the fact that I've worn myself out. E: I only said that you should take care of yourself. Especially considering— L: Considering what? E: Nothing. Never mind. E: How about you return to your quarters? I'll finish cleaning up in here. L: But I want to finish what I've started! E: I don't mind, really. Please, don't make me repeat myself. L: Ugh. Fine. As long as you'll finish all this up. E: I will. Get some rest, OK? L: Yes, yes. Thank you. E: If what I heard about Lysithea is true... Hmm... I just don't know how much of it I should believe.

L: Edelgard, do you have a minute? E: You want to speak with me? How unusual... Please, come in. I'll prepare some tea for us. E: Have a seat. Would you care for some cake? L: Yes, please! I never say no to sweets. E: They’re from Enbarr. A bit too sweet for my own liking. L: Isn't that the whole point of cake? Well, more for me. Mmm, these are fantastic with this tea. E: Heh, true. Well, there's no shortage of them. Help yourself to as many as you like. E: Now then. You wished to speak with me? L: Mmm, mm. So, I, ah, can tell you know a fair bit about me. Mmm... E: Maybe this can wait until you've finished eating? L: Gulp. Edelgard. You know a fair bit about me. Don't you? E: What in particular? L: For example, the fact that I have two Crests. E: Oh? That's...hard to believe. L: No need to play coy with me. It won't work. L: It's clear my body has succumbed to the intense pressure of bearing two Crests. L: Due to the immense requirements of bearing these Crests, my life expectancy is...painfully short. You know all of this, right? E: Actually, this is the first I'm hearing of it. How would I know unless you told me? L: Still won't drop the act, huh? Despite how obvious you've been with your concern about my health? You're certainly consistent. L: I'm not really in the mood for these games. L: Given your rank, you certainly have access to all kinds of information that others do not. Clearly, you'd have heard all about me. E: Either way... I know now since you just told me. E: About your two Crests, your physical weakness, and your short life expectancy. E: However, according to the principles of Crest research, it's impossible to bear two Crests. E: Unless…you've undergone a blood reconstruction surgery. Is that the case, Lysithea? L: Correct. It wasn't as though I had a say in any of this. E: I see. So you've lived through that relentless terror and agony...and survived. L: You speak of all of this as though you understand it on a personal level... Edelgard, have you... E: You’re a good friend, Lysithea. And a valuable member of this army. E: So I won't have you overexerting yourself. I don't want to lose you. Understand? L: I understand. E: Heh. Good girl. Oh, and if you like those cakes, why not take some with you for later? L: There's no need to pander to me! But...yes. I'll take those. Thanks.

E: How are you today, Lysithea? L: Fine, thank you. And yourself? E: Quite well, thank you. L: I overheard something recently. Something pertaining to you and your vision for the future... L: Is it really true that you intend to create a world in which Crests no longer exist? E: It’s true. My aim is to dismantle the current system of aristocracy. E: The only reason nobles enjoy the status they do is because their bloodlines carry Crests. If Crests lose their value, so will titles of nobility. L: I really agree with your thinking. L: My parents have suffered throughout their lives due to their nobility. L: Due to my own Crests, I've never been able to live a normal life. L: I'm sick of nobility and Crests—of all of it. It sounds as if it's truly your mission to change things. L: I'll pledge my life to your cause, however short it may be. E: Lysithea… L: Has your hair always been that color, by the way? E: Huh? L: I ask because mine wasn't always this color. I lost all pigment after receiving my two Crests. L: Edelgard, I want a world where people like you and I are no longer victimized. I want you to bring that world into being. L: If it's within me to help that come to pass, then I'll do whatever it takes. E: Understood. I promise to do all I can to see this goal to fruition. E: And I want you to promise something in return... that you will never stop fighting for your life. E: Whatever terrible fate awaits us, we can fight it and prevail! E: I need you to trust me on that. Do you promise? L: I...I promise. I will try my best to believe that. E: Good girl. Now then...would you care for a sweet cake? L: Ugh, please do not call me that! But uh...yes. Yes, I would.

paired ending
After the war, Edelgard and Lysithea threw themselves into the fight against those who slither in the dark. The struggle was long and arduous, but not without its benefits. With careful analysis of ancient techniques, they discovered ways to recover the years of life that had been stolen from them. Afterwards, the new Adrestian emperor and Lysithea, her trusted officer, devoted the rest of their lives to Fódlan's rule. For her counsel in instituting class reforms and ensuring the independence of the people, Lysithea came to be known as the Wisdom of the Empire. The pair of talented women ushered Fódlan into a new age of innovation and prosperity.
