Taurus Full Moon April 22/23 2020 - with some tips

Hi all, how are you thriving so far? I hope you’re all well, body, mind, heart, soul, and wallet-wise lol But seriously, this “pandemic” has taken a toll on a lot of people, not just those who actually got the virus, but everyone else. I don’t think it’s fair, but when nature decides to make its way after being taken advantage of, well, sh** hits the fan, hard. We’re in the middle of that situation and despite what it seems to be, waiting and prepping up is the only thing we can do right now. For safety reasons of course.  Physical distancing is greatly affecting so many jobs that require physical presence so I’m not the only one who’s losing not just brain cells but also moolah.. Unless you’re working at home and everything is still running smoothly. if so... Good for you! =) I am personally affected by this whole mess of a pandemic and I am not exactly OK with it, and my body is also acting up aka old pains and aches and stuff started flaring up ever since I last posted, April 5 or something? 8? It felt so long ago, because after the whole global meditation thing I started having trippy dreams, so trippy that even if I slip in a 10-minute doze I’d get to dreamland so fast, it was so draining, so I had no choice but to get some rest, which only lasts a max of 3 hours. And well, you know what happens to sleep-deprived people. T_T But I’m doing a bit better, thank you, and I tried all remedies to move energies: old, young, new, not mine, mine, generational, genetic, emotional, basically removing all of the blockages I could detect. I couldn’t meditate sitting down due to the back pain so I started going back to doing QiGong. It helped greatly, now I upped my sleep time to 5 hours. Not the best but it’s better than 3 hours or 2 hours and having difficulty filling in the gap. Other than the sweltering and humid heat, and having unexplainable pains, I think I’m faring better than others. It sounds Pollyanna-ish but I just try to see the brighter side of things aka I used to be bedridden due to intense and debilitating backpains but now I can stand and even play tetris 99 so I think that’s something to be grateful for. 

Speaking of gratitude, the Full Moon in Taurus tomorrow, April 22 or 23 (depending on where you are) is a great opportunity to fill our cups, in preparation for the days, weeks, and months ahead. Because if it isn’t obvious by now, extreme changes will take place once the quarantines or the mobility restrictions are lifted. It is a strong must that we all adapt, because trust me or anyone else when they say that things will never be the same. Yep. And based on the evolutionary patterns of species, the strongest ones don’t survive, the most adaptable ones do, and it’s high time adaptability is given the love it deserves because THAT’S what the new endings shall require all of us, in order to navigate not just the new energies that are flowing in, but the new way of doing things. Like it or not.

So.. just to push everyone (me included lol) to amp up the manifestation urge, some tidbits to assist you in what to ask for. Taurus is ruled by Venus, along with Libra. Venus rules love, relationships, connections, beauty in general, arts, and most importantly, MONEY. Plus Taurus is a fixed earth sign, meaning it rules whatever we have or own in the physical realm, and it’s in for the long haul. With that in mind, what do you think, or feel intuitively need to manifest now and in the next part of the year? Do you want to be healthier? Make more cash? Be connected with more people? Dress up preppier? Create artsy fartsy stuff? Whatever it is, as long as it is lawful, doesn’t hurt anybody (including you), and fills you with joy, just do it. Or at the very least, plan it out. See yourself achieving that goal, or goals, by doing things step-by-step, even if it’s just baby steps. A move forward despite being pushed back is better than no movement at all. That’s the real backslide right there. And because Taurus energy can help you get things materialized into this physical realm, why not call upon that energy as well? I mean, we’re all stuck somehow anyway, might as well engage with the higher dimensional realms. Besides, these are energetic realms that all religions and belief systems call upon because they’re just there, so even if you’re skeptical it won’t hurt to try, and see if you have results.

Oh, and for those who are affected by astrological energies and shenanigans, Pluto’s gonna go back to Capricorn on the 25th, so you’ll either get used to the quarantine thing or it will make you even more anxious. Also, if you know which house in your natal chart your Capricorn is in, you can check it out because it can affect that house again, once Pluto goes back to Capricorn. You might wanna add that to your manifestations and stuff, for good measure.

Warning: Personal Rant Below. You can skip as needed lol I was supposed to start a new career last month, I was super excited because I thought I was going to get a new lease in life but then community quarantines started so.. Nope. I thought that was the end of my issues so I just shifted into “hey let’s max out the healing since we’re not going anywhere” but I think trying to purge as much crap in my body as I could, sorta broke it, in a way? I mean, I was good for the first 3 days of April, but then after the Jupiter-Saturn conjuction and meditation thing I just broke down into more heaps of emotions that I don’t even know if they’re even mine. Oh, and the pains started coming in, and I didn’t take any medications so I just lived through 2 weeks of having pains, which were bearable to some extent until this weekend. Honestly I don’t see any other way out of this situation but to just rest, but having a gene key that makes me wanna die each time I have to stop and just be, that’s a pretty hard deal. Unless I take drugs so I could just sleep despite the world crumbling down. So I decided to purge more, and the pains starting popping out. It got really intense in the weekend, I can’t sit anymore, and standing hurts, and I had muscle spasms and tense joints. Not exactly fun. And it was hard to sleep in the humid heat, plus I kept getting bitten by ants while I sleep in daylight. Like really, the ants here in my new place are so hecking aggresive, they invade personal spaces like they own the place. Just thinking about them riles me up, I wanna explode. But it’s night right now and they’re gone elsewhere so I will definitely do my best to snooze while it is cool before they invade me in the morning. I miss the monsoon rains, where are you T_T

OK, enough about that, now for some raves--

I have been personally prepping up to participate in Inktober this year but also have to do warmups since I haven’t done artsy drawings since 2017, I concentrated more on doing calligraphy, which is good, of course, but I also have to honor and respect stuff I promised to do myself, for this year. I am not making excuses for not doing as much as I wanted to, I mean, I am just brain-drained and my creativity has been exhausted due to depressive states plus it’s too hot and humid that I kept getting asthma even just moving. So I just try to go with the flow and see what happens, I might make an update if that works out. But seriously, I miss feeling numb, I am not used to having to process a lot of emotions, but I also have to respect my bodygraph type (emotional center) and having emotions and riding them all out until I feel nothing, not numb, but peaceful, is something that I am working on. It’s not easy, but I am starting to see some light. 

OK, so there you go, some support for the new moon, or at least, some stuff you can read to pass the time lol I hope you at least got some ideas, or tips, or even some entertainment? I am definitely not at my best right now due to some stuff but I still wanted to post this in case someone else might benefit. Even if it’s read by someone in the future, if it resonates then it resonates. Besides, there’s always a Taurus new moon every year so yeah, why not.

The year I was 24.

The year I was 24, was the biggest year for me. Right before I turned 24, I was living at home, dating the person I thought I would marry, and just ignoring any problem I can for the most part, pretending everything was fine. I was just doing what I did for years, not changing or evolving or anything, just staying the same. 

The week before my 24th birthday, I moved out of my parents' basement into an apartment that I thought I would be sharing with my Girlfriend at the time. We were hiding our relationship from her family so the plan was for her to move in a month later. The end of November came and nothing. Moved the deadline to mid December, nothing. Moved it again to end of December, nothing. Moved to mid January, nothing. End of January, nothing. Mid February, nothing. Finally moved it to end of February with me saying 

"look, we agreed to get this apartment, it's a bit pricey but it was no problem cause we both be living here, but its been like 4 months and you made no effort to move in, if you don't want to live together just say so, but if you do and not here by the end of the month, were done, I'm done having my hopes up for nothing." 

So she agreed to end of February. She told her family and that was a complete shit show, which ended with us breaking up. Now when February came around I became extremely depressed, I didn't think she gave a crap or loved me at all, and instead of hearing me out or helping me when I told her that I was extremely depressed, she said 

"what else is new". 

That hurt like a mother fucker. After me and her broke up at the end of February I had a complete mental breakdown, at the worst time possible. It happened when driving a crappy old truck, in the middle of winter, going 130kms down highway 63, with my breakdown consisting of me clawing at myself, I almost drove off the road like 7 times and still have scars from the clawing (my left arm, small dots). I stopped and became uncontrollable, my life was fucked up, the person I thought I was going to ask to marry me was gone, and no one was checking in on me, no one lived with me, I felt utterly alone for the first time in my life. I'm pretty sure subconsciously I was trying to end my life in that moment by car accident. The next day, I walked across halfway across town to seek professional help, was too scared to drive.

In November I also had an idea, to live in a truck/van and just drive around, travel all over the place, even designed a plan for the truck (lost the papers). In November I started to do photography and songwriting less and less to where I didn't even want to by the end of February, I had no desire to do those things. Part of this was, there was I wrote for my Girlfriend at the time, I wanted to play it for her first for so long and I tried, and tried, but the time was quote "never right" according to her. So I lost the motivation to write, which also did the same for photography. Once April came around I picked up both again, and even better than before, with photography I learned the F-stop finally, with song writing, a sudden surge of creativity came over me and I wrote a bunch of songs, even some more with guitar, also learned them and learned the song "Tell Me Who To Be" by "Cosmo Jarvis".

In April, I went down to Calgary and Edmonton to visit my siblings, when I got down there I tried weed for the first time, I decided to try it after 8 and a half years of depression and anxiety so I said fuck it, It now helps with bad days and to get off of "work mode" after work. I also decided that I was going to grow out a mohawk and dye it different colours, I wanted to since grade 10 but at that time I was in the Air Cadets and I loved it, after aging out, the best friends I had at that time, I knew they wont approve of it and didn't want to lose their friendship (which I'm no longer friends with any of them), to this day it's a long, kickass mohawk thats black for spooky month (next colour is red for Remembrance Day and Christmas).

Right after Christmas, my parents broke the news to me that my Pepére had throat cancer, it explains the Christmas phone call, where he didn't want to say hi, that really sucked, broke my heart. My mom then told me that she was leaving to go back east to take care of Pepére and Memére (she had many problems), as a result, she gave me her cat to take care of, Turbo the 20lb lazy boi who a goof. At the end of his stay, he was on a diet to get to a healthy weight, which didn't last long when he went back home. Mom was gone for 7 months.

At work in January, my boss left for maternity leave, leaving me in charge for a month and so, this was extremely stressful as I was already dealing with everything outside of work, barely made it before the next boss came in, he came however when everything in my life was falling apart, not a good way to introduce yourself.

After I became single, my neighbor gave me really important advice.

"In life, there is Truth, the capital T stands for TRUTH, which the lower t is truths that don't change (life breathing oxygen, needing sleep, etc), stuff that will never change that ALWAYS stays true, truth is stuff you THINK will always be true but can change (relationships, state of life etc.), remember that Truth always has two types of truths, look to see which what something falls into. I will take that advice to heart.

In January I started to go to a DnD group to get out of the apartment, something once a week to look forward to, I played a half elf, half reaper, the son of Lady Death (think Death the Kid from Soul Eater, that basically was the character), the first time I really played DnD and now it's something I will play if given the opportunity.

Mid April came and with that, a twist in events. A coworker of mine needed a place to stay, so they stayed on my futon, during her stay, we helped each other with our break ups, I helped her get back on her feet and she helped me regain my confidence again, we became fast best friends during her stay. 

During this time also, a trusted source told me that my now ex and (at that time) best friend of several years were hooking up behind my back for at least 2 weeks after me and my ex broke up, knowing how I was NOT okay after the break up, made me pissed, but then I remember and event in January, where with this new information, made me 99% sure she wasn't moving in also due to her cheating on me with said "friend". Pissed off, I completely dropped not only him as a friend, but also his two roommates, fuck that I'm not dealing with any of that bullshit, who the fuck does that? It broke me, just when I started to get better I was pushed back down to the dirt. Backstabbed by someone I consider a brother. With this, I also had to stop playing DnD since he was in the group I played in and I couldn't bare to even look at him or hear his name nevermind be in the same room as him, those two will never get my forgiveness. Funny enough, May came and it was discovered that he had gotten my ex girlfriend pregnant, so good riddance.

The month of May, I have also taken in my friend/coworker's friend in on and off as well, this was a bit of a headache but in my true self, I will help anyone who needs it. When I decided to have a housewarming party for myself (a bit late but oh well), which was fun, until that friend started to have a complete mental breakdown, she wanted cocaine, no one was letting her leave, meanwhile others were just trying to pretend nothing is going on (I don't blame them).

During this month I started liking the friend that was staying with me, something I was proud of myself was that I made damn sure to separate those feelings with what advice/things needed to help her, also to be able to realize that it won't be a good idea to date her, not compatible is all. Regardless of that we did become closer and she was able to get my confidence up to "go for it", which includes playing the songs I wrote for the first time to anyone.

I remember when I came back from my April trip to Calgary and Edmonton, I decided that I was going to move to one of those places, after spending half my life in a small city that I have a love-hate relationship with. I knew that I needed something new, it would be the perfect year to do so, my lease was up at the same time as my last week of paid vacation. I asked my sister and my brother for information of their city (since they live in those cities), my sister put effort into telling about her city so Edmonton it is. Doing something this big is scary but doing this will help me mentally, being away from my haunted past, making a new life with a new me.

I started to talk to two of my friends again after drifting away due to my ex, and I started to plan out a road trip, where one of my stops will be where one of them lives. If you're reading this, by the way, I'm sorry that happened, the relationship I was in wasn't healthy.

I started making a patch jacket, I have grown out the mohawk to a good length, dyed it green, blue, and red (currently black now), started really getting into the music from the band "The Speakeasies Swing Band!" and other areas of music, go out until 3am just doing random stuff, alone or with people, at times even all night, so that I could live life, practice playing the songs I wrote more, doing more photography, and finally, finally, I started to feel better, I started to notice that I was becoming someone new, someone more, me.

Fast forward to the summer, I was out hiking, swimming (including skinny dipping), out late at night, long drives, all that good stuff, and then, my road trip comes.

My road trip changed me, exactly what I needed and it changed my life. My trip starts with Edmonton. While there for the first pass, I had edibles for the first time, by accident mind you. How? You know when you ask your sibling for a bite of something and take a huge bite like an asshole? Turns out my sister was eating a homemade weed brownie. I went out and took photos at night, this led to what I thought was me breaking a law, by swimming in the fountain at the legislation building, when I got there to take photos, strangers were swimming in the fountain, it was 1am, I said "fuck it" and join in, it was really relaxing and amazing. Went to a food festival and tried some weird food, including octopus. 

I then went to Calgary, traveled all around, found a piano and played it, took loads of photos, rode on an electric scooter, met up with my aunts, brother and his fiancee, and two of my old friends. While staying in Calgary, I took a one day trip to Drumheller, saw dinosaurs, went on a hike (in the badlands), got heat exhaustion, and went home. Also went to Cochrane, kinda technically maybe trespassed to take a photo, maybe I didn't though.

After Calgary, I was off to Banff! On the way was horrible traffic, like deadlock traffic for two hours. I stopped in Camrose for what was 30 minutes, as soon as I got there it rained, as soon as I left, the sun came out. When I got to Banff, I went to some hot springs, it was relaxing, another thing to scratch off my bucket list. After I left the hot springs, I saw a trail going up, I hear a couple walk by which I only heard "one and a half-" I assume they were talking about kilometers, turns out, the hike was one and a half HOURS, so I hiked, completely unprepared, 100% up hill, for one and a half hours, to get to the very top of Sulphur Mountain. The extremely difficult hike was completely worth it, when I got to the top, I felt the universe again, hear her in the wind, saw her in the rays of the sun, shining through the clouds, hitting the surface of the bottom of the valleys, seen the tops of mountains, I screamed in triumph and in victory. When I had that moment, I knew I was in a better place, that everything was going to be okay, that I'm more myself than ever before, the best I've been in 9 years. I started my way down the mountain, I got to the bottom, went to the bus stop, that's when I met a travel friend, we talked and we decided to hang out that night, we grabbed a drink, we went dancing, I wore my kilt, and I noticed my confidence was higher than it was before.

My next stop was Blind Bay, I stayed with an old friend, while there, I made one day trips to Revelstoke, Kamloops, and Kelowna (all great places). I met her boyfriend, who is a great guy, drove a car you drive on the right side of the car, it was great. This part of the trip would end with confusion, unanswered questions, and sadness, my old friend, my best friend for 9 and a half years, looked me in the eye and said, "I can't do this anymore". Apparently the reason was because I have been miserable since high school, which didn't make sense since when I got there, I was doing great, she didn't deal with the worst back in February and March, and life happens, it goes up and down. Just left not knowing what the fuck really happened. So I left British Columbia, with one less friend, but one extra travel friend.

I arrived in Edmonton again and hung out with the travel friend the first night, it was nice and she told me a really great piece of advice I also will never forget: "If you think of it, do it in 5 to 10 seconds, if you don't, then don't do it", basically if you want to do something, like kiss a pretty girl you're dancing with, if it takes more than 10 seconds to do, don't do it so just do it within 10 seconds. The 10 second rule. The next morning, We went to a farmers market, the first one I ever went to. The rest of the time I relaxed, being exhausted from going, going, going, going, going.

So, after my trip, I realized that I have more life in me, I was different, even my taste in food changed, even my tolerance for spice was back to where it was before an incident in high school fucking it up. I was a changed man, a better man.

When my roommate came back, she changed too, not for the better unfortunately, she came back and immediately started asking for favors, at some point, I thought she would want to hang out with me, but no, she went back to the ex she ran from, and only contacted me or a few others only if she needed a favor, I ghosted her cause it just got too much, she would ask for drives all the time, and in that moment, I stopped. letting her walk all over me. I did see her before I moved, and she seemed to be back the way she was, the person I knew, which is nice, to me, it must have been a rough patch and hopefully she is better.

I was again living alone, this time, I started to learn how to be comfortably alone for the first time in my life, I found peace in being alone, anxiety still comes around but I have more control over it, I understand why people like being alone, there's a peace to it, to control your environment around you.

I moved 99% of my stuff down to Edmonton at the start of October, so for the next month(ish) I lived with very little, like a minimalist lifestyle, which was very interesting, learned that I don't need most of what I have.

During this last month, I went through a lot of stress at work and left that job, on my second last day I trained someone new who became my friend quickly, also went to my works awards ceremony and got my five years award. I got my first paid gig for photography and took some of my favorite photos ever. I started to learn more songs on the guitar, even played a few of those for other people. I had a going away party, invited people over, played games, laughed, played guitar, and then went to a karaoke bar where we sang, drink, and were complete goofs. I also was able to tell my friends how much they mean to me before going.

I moved to Edmonton, living with my sister, sister-in-law, and sister-in-law's best friend will be interesting. I went job hunting for the first time in five years, and my car was involved in a hit and run, I'm able to drive still but I was surprisingly calm for how I thought I would be.

So, I went from a depressed, anxious person who was only kinda himself, with little confidence, living at home with my parents, dating a girl who stopped caring, living in a town I hated, to someone that worked on fixing on my depression and anxiety, that knows how to be comfortably alone, confident, stopped letting people walk all over me, better at my passions, dropped shit friends, learned who I was, is now more my true self and is living in a new and bigger city to live a more exciting life. For years I was depressed, anxious, nervous to express myself, and would just do what would only make someone else happy, not to make me happy, worrying about what others would think of me, friends with people that held me back, and now, I don't have those problems, I get to leave all that behind me, in the dust. The year I was 24, was the worst and best year of my life, the biggest changes of my life happened, an epic year of ups and downs. It was wild and great, ill never forget anyone that made this year the way it was, and ill never forget the year that everything changed, when I was 24.

Do you love skiing? We’re not talking about hitting the slopes if the snow is perfect. Or about making sure your gear matches & staying in ski-in/ski-out condos. We’re talking about places that have just a lift, some terrain and your skis. Based on the news reports, it sounds like this style of skiing is dead. Is that true? The answer is a resounding NO! It just takes you getting off the beaten path. Don’t believe us? Well, here’s six locally owned ski areas that have given a big middle finger to the corporate world & are still owned by locals for locals. The way it’s supposed to be!

Mad River Glen

We couldn’t start this list without giving a salute to the O.G. of bucking the trend. Mad River Glen is one of the first major ski areas in Vermont shuttling people via the single chair. And in 1995, they became the first cooperatively owned ski area in America. Their focus is to preserve the lower skier density & 100% about skiing what ma’ nature gives you. From not having ANY snowmaking to still running a single chairlift, this is the ski area all others try and measure up to when it comes to focusing on the skiing.

As Public Enemy once said, “Fight the power. We’ve got to fight the powers that be!” And that is true with Red Mountain. Of course, they could’ve gotten gobbled up by one of the corporate titans in the industry to expand their cat skiing & upgrade their lifts. Instead, they went the route of getting investment dollars directly from skiers and snowboarders. Why? Their goal is to preserve the soul of the resort, the alpine environment & most of all keep the community involved. It doesn’t hurt that the resort has nearly 2,900 vertical feet of skiing, covering a whopping 4,200 acres.

Sugar Bowl

Perched atop Donner Summit is the resort that started the Sierra ski craze. When Hannes Schroll started the resort in 1939, his vision was to create a slope side Tyrolean style village. Privately owned and operated by the homeowners in the Village at Sugar Bowl, their focus is to keep to the character of the resort but bring in state-of-the-art equipment because nobody likes to stand in long lift lines. With 103 runs getting blanketed with more than 500 inches of snow annually, this is definitely a MUST see resort for anyone in Lake Tahoe.

Since the founding of this 75-year-old ski area, it has always been owned by the community of Boise. But this ski area wouldn’t exist without the help of J.R. Simplot. In 1953 when the resort was struggling to cover its debts, he bought the ski lifts & other mountain amenities and leased them back to Bogus Basin Recreational Association. More than half a century later, it’s still keeping Boiseans on the slopes & offers up a $99 season pass for night skiing.

Interesting fact: The site of the area was selected by the father of American Powder skiing, Alf Engen.

Bridger Bowl

Another great example of the community owning their local resort is Bridger Bowl. Just outside of Bozeman, this powder haven offers up 2,600 vertical feet of skiing & 2,000+ acres that gets blanketed with over 350 inches of the good stuff. Just like the blue light installed on the Baxter Hotel in downtown Bozeman notifies residents when there’s more than two inches of fresh, this ski area is a shining beacon of light for areas owned by the community.

The 1960’s might have been the era of small ski areas in the Northeast, but there has been a resurgence in community support to bring back defunct ones. A great example of this is Whaleback. Due to high debt, the mountain was forced to close in the 2012-13 season. Luckily, a local non-profit organization named the Upper Valley Snow Sports Foundation (UVSSF) was established to operate & eventually purchase the mountain. In its fifth year, there have been major improvements to the quality of the skiing such as new snow guns & installation of a T-bar.

It’s true that skiing’s becoming more about lining the pockets of Wall Street than enjoying the art of the turn. From California to the Powder Highway & beyond, there are still bastions of hope. And if you like the idea of saving the local independently owned ski areas, be sure to checkout the Mountain Riders Alliance. I don’t know about you, but I think I found new places for my bucket list.

#housemusic “Seriously, generic tech house is the new EDM… I want to hear music with a bit of depth…” Best known as one half of the super production duo, Rhythm Masters, Steve Mac has unveiled a new production alias, These Machines. Using the machines in his Brighton studio (of which he has hundreds) to create a new sound, Steve Mac is buzzed about this new project. Here he chats about his debut outing on NRTHRN XPRSS, his forthcoming album featuring Robert Owens, Marshall Jefferson and Sleezy D, and the disposable nature of today’s tech house. Congrats on the launch of These Machines. How would you describe this new sound and how does it differ from your past work? Thanks, I’m really buzzing about this new project. Basically, I’m just using all the gear I have collected over the years to make tracks. I have also been working with lots of musicians so some of it really has a good live feel about it. I’m just trying to do stuff that is a little different from my norm and just having fun. How many machines do you have? Now that’s a good question. I own so much gear it’s silly. I’m not so much of a collector as all the stuff I buy I use - if it’s not being used that means it’s not for me and it’s out the door. Synths alone, I own over 50, then there is all the other stuff, it’s in the hundreds. Is it right that you’ll be selecting different machines to appear on each track? How will you go about selecting which ones to work on? Yes, I kind of do. Usually I’ll start off using a drum machine. The ones I usually go to are the classics 606, 808, 909, SP-1200 or MPC. I’ll start programming some drums then just look around the room and go right, I’ll set you up and start messing around. Every synth has its own sound. Why do you think the tech house scene has become so ‘samey’? The original tech house from back in the day is the shit. I love that music. The generic tech house which every DJ and his dog seem to be playing at the moment is so disposable. It’s just the same drum loops off sample packs etc. Seriously, it’s the new EDM. Drums, breakdown big rise sound, drum roll. Job done. Personally, I want to hear music with a bit of depth but that’s just me. Each to their own... NRTHRN XPRSS is injecting the energy back into dance music, akin to the rave days. Were you a raver? Oh yes, I went to my first acid house party when I was 16. I ended up in Cambridge in a pub and the next thing you know, I was in the back of a van with loads of other people and ended up in a field. Everyone was dancing weird and I said to my mate, What the fuck is this all about? He replied, This is acid mate (one of the singles on my acid house album, coming very soon, is called This Is Acid Mate after that moment) and the rest was history. I fell I love with the music and the scene. When do you think dance music got so serious? When the snobs got involved lol. Dance music is about having a good time and dancing. Never take yourself too seriously, I don’t. When was clubland at its most fun? Ibiza - the early days of Space and DC10. I had some of the best times clubbing then. Around 99 / 2000ish were the best times for me personally. Also Miami WMC back in the day, mid-90’s. Those parties used to be insane and that’s where the hit records broke. All these times will stay with me forever. This ‘Universal Control’ release on NRTHRN XPRSS features artists all releasing under new pseudonyms, some we don’t know the identity of. Why do you think dance producers need to release under different names for different styles? The rule doesn’t seem to apply to pop stars! Well it keeps it fresh. As a producer or artist, it gives you a new lease of life to do whatever you want. The thing with pop music is that it’s shite. It all sounds the same - bad lyrics with auto tune and some shit house or trap beat. It’s not for me. Your first single under These Machines will feature a Columbian band with a touch of soul and 303. Is this a taste of what’s to come? Yes, for sure, I’m working with a lot of different musicians. I made friends with a local Columbian band in Brighton and we’ve been working on lots of tracks. A couple are finished and one in particular I think has some legs. We will have to see what happens when we release it. And what else have you got up your sleeve? I have an acid house album which is now finally finished. It’s a real tribute to the early Chicago sound. I have managed to get Robert Owens, Marshall Jefferson, Alana Simon and Sleezy D to feature on the album. I also have a bunch of new singles, one in which I did with my friend Scot Booth. Scot is an acoustic guitar player with a difference. He plays it like it’s percussion; so talented and different. I went to watch him play a gig and just said to him right there and then, we gotta get in the studio together. We have done a track called The Rose, it has a real Balearic feel to it. Can’t wait to release it into the world. What does this mean for Rhythm Masters – officially retired or on the back burner for now? Rhythm Masters will always be there. We have a few singles coming out this year on Elrow, Do Not Sleep and Under No Illusion. Me and Rob go way, way back and he is one of my best friends. But growing up together in the studio world, we both need to do our own thing as well. We will always jump in and make records and there will be more stuff in the future for sure. When can we see These Machines in a club? I’m doing my first gig under These Machines at the Brighton Music Conference this year. It’s for the Last Night A DJ Saved My Life charity at Bau Wow on Saturday 28th of April. You were spotted at ADE with Marshall Jefferson dressed in afro wigs and wearing huge house-shaped medallions! Darn it, I’ve been waiting since the start of the month to send you fic in celebration of your five-year check-up being all good, and in the end, I missed it because of work deadlines keeping me away aha. But congratulations on the excellent news!! And have some fic in celebration!!!

Nope, you are right on time - today is the actual anniversary!

And now, the fic:

1. As soon as he wakes, John knows something is wrong. Firstly, because the bright lights of the infirmary greet him when he opens his eyes, and he is very confident that he wasn’t in the infirmary when they had initially shut. Secondly, because as awareness trickles back in through his mind, so too does a large amount of pain across his body. Most importantly however, is when he glances to his right and sees a stressed-looking Lorne next to his bed rather than the usual sight of Elizabeth. 2. ‘’ere is she?’ he croaks out, pushing himself upright with shaky arms. Lorne thrusts a glass of water under his nose, clearly stalling for time as he waits until John has managed to drink without spilling everything over the covers. ‘How much do you remember?’ he asks, instead of answering, and John’s impatience begins to grow. ‘Enough,’ he says shortly. ‘I remember us visiting M8G-753, I remember Elizabeth coming with us, I remember us having endless boring negotiations with the locals.’ 3. The memories are there, but coming back slowly, pushing though the fog that seems to hang over his head. ‘Well, the negotiations weren’t as boring as you thought,’ Lorne says with a sigh. ‘You were ambushed a few hours ago on your way back to the gate. They clearly targeted those of you carrying weapons, to remove the threat, although in the end it appears as if they were going for a non-lethal approach.’ At this, John looks more closely around the infirmary. ‘The team?’ 4. ‘Bruised but otherwise fine,’ Lorne reassures. ‘Looks like you took the main brunt of the injuries.’ And abruptly John can recall exactly why – can remember how they were cleverly divided under the attack, lured forwards by enemy fire. How Elizabeth and the civilian scientists were left behind, as if that was safer, yet all the while a trap was being set specifically to catch them. He remembers her screams as she and the others were dragged away, and how he couldn’t reach her in time. 5. His feet hit the floor the very next moment, and then Lorne is there, clutching his arm as he attempts to stand upright. ‘No way,’ Lorne shakes his head. ‘Carson will kill me if I let you escape from here.’ John shakes off his support, and manages a slow shuffle forward. ‘Major,’ he says. ‘I am leaving this infirmary and going to get my people. And you can either worry about what the doctor says, or worry about civilians who have been left in hostile territory.’ His tone leaves no argument. 6. Lorne has the good grace not to mention how John is studiously avoiding saying a specific name. Instead, he hesitates for a moment, and then nods his agreement. ‘You might want to change your clothing, Sir, before you embark on any rescue missions,’ he says simply, indicating at the hospital gown with the semblance of a smile. ‘I’ll go ready a team.’ He leaves abruptly, no doubt wanting to avoid any potential confrontation if Carson were to appear. 7. John is grateful for the privacy – it makes it less humiliating as he walks slowly back to his own quarters, trying to put as much distance between himself and the infirmary as possible. His brain is stuck wondering what has happened to Elizabeth, and reflecting on how he failed to keep her safe. He barely notices the numerous bandages across his body as he pulls on more suitable clothes, and by the time he splashes cold water on his face, he can at least move a bit more easily. 8. He still isn’t quite sure how he makes it back to Control however, never mind gearing up and stepping through the Gate. He knows at some point he gave Lorne the nod to go ahead with leading the team, but mostly he focuses on keeping the encroaching darkness at bay from the corner of his vision. The world is slightly hazy, but he needs to remain upright. Elizabeth would be appalled if she saw him, he knows, but the point is that she CAN’T see him, because she isn’t there. 9. The other side of the gate is eerily silent, and it is impossible to know if they are being watched, and if so, by how many. John sidles closer to Lorne. ‘Let’s head towards the town first,’ he says quietly, and Lorne nods in agreement before gesturing to the others. Before they’ve managed to go move however, there is a loud explosion to the left of the gate, and a large plume of smoke begins to rise from the not-too-far treeline. John wordlessly points in this new direction. 10. Fifteen minutes of unrelenting marching later, and the smoke has begun to settle in around them, making it difficult to see. And then, up ahead, figures begin to emerge from the trees. ‘Don’t come any closer,’ John commands, managing to find his voice properly at last. He waits, gun in hand, team at his back, for the response. ‘John?’ someone familiar asks, and suddenly Elizabeth is there, leading a group of dirty, tired scientists towards him. 11. There is a definite limp to her step, and a large cut down her left cheek, but she’s smiling brightly by the time they stand toe-to-toe. ‘You kinda interrupted the rescue mission,’ John says, trying to sound casual and unable to stop a matching grin spreading across his own face. Elizabeth laughs in response. ‘Never underestimate a scientist’s ability to blow something up – including doors,’ she gestures over her shoulder towards a sheepish-looking young woman. 12. ‘After that, it was just a matter of removing the guards.’ Her hand is holding tight to a table leg, he realises, and then with a quick glance around to the rest of the group, sees that they all have various weapons. ‘Leading a violent uprising,’ he notes. ‘I’m impressed.’ Elizabeth nods, and there is weariness to her movements. ‘I will admit that diplomacy is not always the best option,’ she says lightly, but her fingers release the makeshift weapon and it falls to the ground with a thump. 13. They need to move back towards the gate as quickly as possible to avoid another ambush, but then he feels Elizabeth’s forehead drop to his shoulder. His arm comes up to rest on her back, and he allows them to breath for a moment, as around them, the other scientists are being ushered away. ‘OK?’ he asks softly, for only her to hear. ‘OK,’ she confirms, her voice muffled against his chest. ‘You?’ He nods in response, despite the aches shooting across his body. 14. ‘Let’s get you off this planet and to see Carson,’ he says instead, shifting so she can use him for support as they begin to shuffle back towards the gate, whilst still keeping his other side clear for his gun. She snorts quietly in response, even as her gaze rests on the uneven ground as she tries to stay on her feet. ‘Don’t think I haven’t noticed you should be in the infirmary yourself,’ she throws back. He groans, not from pain but from suddenly picturing Carson’s reaction on his return. 15. ‘Can we just pretend he cleared me for this mission?’ he asks pitifully, keeping her distracted whilst subtly trying to speed up their pace. He refuses to be caught out again by an ambush, and the faster they make it back to Atlantis, the faster she will be safe. ‘Nice try,’ she tells him as the gate looms ahead. ‘But maybe we can be in neighbouring beds – I’m sure he’d prefer you focus your boredom on ruining my concentration instead of his when you invariably get bored of your stay.’

16. They reach the gate just as Lorne dials for Atlantis. John keeps holding her upright as they travel through to Control, and all the way down to the infirmary, where they are separated only by Carson’s demanding hands (and furious words). And when he wakes up from his own hospital bed the next morning, Elizabeth’s face from the neighbouring bed is indeed the first thing he sees.

1. John is bored. Bored, bored, bored. He’s also pacing back and forth, restless and feeling claustrophobic with the knowledge that there’s an understanding that he won’t try to leave, despite the door technically not being locked. It doesn’t help that the room feels small, the walls pressing in. In a moment of inspiration, he decides that he clearly needs to determine exactly how small by turning his pacing into useful steps of measurement.

2. He’s just completed the length of the room (around 10 strides, although now of course he is realizing he doesn’t know how long one of those actually are), and is primed to measure out the room’s width when a gentle yet pointed clearing of the throat distracts him. He pauses, foot hovering over the ground, and eyes Elizabeth in trepidation. She’s sat on the floor, leaning against the far wall and staring at the tablet balanced against her knees.

3. ‘If you don’t stop pacing,’ she says, her voice deceptively pleasant in a way John knows she only uses during particularly annoying political negotiations. ‘Then I will shoot you with your own gun, and the only thing that will remain when they release us from this quarantine will be your desiccated corpse.’ John waivers a moment, but wisely decides not to call her bluff, and instead crosses back over to where she is sat, dropping down heavily beside her on the floor.

4. ‘I’m bored,’ he mutters, sounding petulant even to his own ears. She huffs quietly, but doesn’t move away when he settles his shoulder against hers. ‘I know you don’t like being grounded and away from the action,’ she says, even as she finishes typing out a response to what he assumes is yet another budget request from a scientist wanting to blow something up. ‘But we are only seven hours into a two-week quarantine period, and one of us is going to go insane if you can’t settle down.’

5. ‘Carson could have at least provided us with more than a few books and the beds,’ he points out, just to support his argument. He knows the good doctor will surely deliver more items to them during their two weeks of isolation, especially considering how hastily the team had had to go into this quarantine, but he’s feeling frustrated enough by the situation to belabour the point anyway. Elizabeth merely raises an eyebrow, but her expression when she finally lays down her work tablet is soft.

6. The mission had gone so well at the start, he reflects ruefully. He should have been suspicious, because things rarely were so easy for any of their missions, especially when Elizabeth made one of her rare appearances off-world. He was starting to think she was cursed with bad luck. And yet, Lt Miller and some of the locals falling seriously ill had not been on his list of potential things to go wrong when she had marched through the gate with them.

7. ‘Hey,’ he feels her hand touch his arm gently. ‘John, what’s really bothering you?’ The concern in her voice makes him deflate, and he sighs heavily. In reality, it was no hardship to be stuck in this section of Atlantis for a couple of weeks, especially when his team was currently safe, still healthy and a radio-call away. And, above all, it had the added bonus of being around Elizabeth without any major risks of disruption. Honestly, it was all fine, except –

8. ‘It’s going to sound stupid,’ he admits. ‘But I remembered it was your birthday today, and well, I had a nice celebration plan set out for us – dinner and everything. Finally having the time for a proper date. The team wanted to do a party for you this week as well. And now, it’ll be spent with you stuck in here, with no good food and only work emails as a present.’

9. Her hand slides down his arm until their fingers can intertwine gently, and he feels her rest more heavily against his side. ‘I’m sure that would have all been very nice,’ she says, her hair tickling his chin as she moves. ‘But I’m also quite happy to have a great excuse to spend two weeks of uninterrupted time with you, you know.’ He feigns shock at this, pressing his free hand against his chest. ‘Why Elizabeth, what are you proposing we do for all this time?’

10. ‘You can get a head-start on your paperwork,’ she deadpans, and then laughs at whatever disgusted expression is surely on his face. ‘Ooor, who do you think persuaded Carson that quarantining in pairs to combat loneliness was a good idea?’ This time, he can’t help but be genuinely a bit surprised, especially when she punctuates her sentence with a slight eyebrow waggle. ‘I like the way you think,’ he says, truthfully, and tilts her head up for a kiss. ‘Happy Birthday, Elizabeth.’

Chapter 10 on AO3

“You know how you had me finding out what Danny’s got?”

“Yeah.” They started to walk. “You said he had little pieces that didn’t make sense, so I gave him an interview with Dr. Weir to get him to stop looking for whatever he’s looking for.”

“Yeah, you gotta cancel it.”

CJ stopped dead in her tracks, grabbing Donna by the arm to spin her around. “What do you mean, I gotta cancel it?”

“You have to cancel the interview, CJ,” Donna said. “I did some more looking in the last two days. What he’s got isn’t enough on its own, but if he talks to Dr. Weir, he’ll have it. You have to cancel the interview.”

“Donna,” CJ began, in disbelief, “how much do you know?”

Revelation Chapter 1 is up on AO3

CJ flipped the folder closed and sat back. “Well, this is a whole new thing now, isn’t it?”

“Pretty much,” Danny replied. “It’s the fourth of November. The election’s in three days, and I’m pretty sure you want me to hold this longer than that.”

“You know me so well.”

“I’ve had the privilege of being here before.” He twirled his pen around before tapping it on his notepad. “So what do I get?”

“I’ll have to talk to the president before I’m anywhere close to answering that.” She stood up, intending to head into the Oval Office, but paused. “Just out of curiosity…”

“What did I think when I figured it all out?”

“Yeah,” said CJ. “And not your reporter reaction. Your reaction.”

To her surprise, Danny smiled. “I thought it was pretty cool.”

Chapter 5 on AO3

This fic is hilariously analog in a lot of ways. The last scene of this one has some details that really stand out.

“Hold this,” she said, shoving the pile of clothes at him, not giving him a choice.

By the time John had gotten it all balanced properly, Elizabeth had her wallet open and was pulling out a credit card. “What is it?” he asked.

She shook her head, smiling tightly. “My credit card expired four months ago.”

“Four months ago?” Donna asked, looking at Elizabeth oddly.
