it’s funny how instead of bashing on an individuals CHARACTER, people would rather bash on a whole SEXUALITY

Signals
tumblr be the only place i can be open about my fandom so ima keep it real here
TWICE’s new album dropped recently along with their latest m/v for the title track ‘Signal’. It’s been receiving very mixed reviews by fans and critics alike. What follows are my 2cents on the matter.
First of all i wanna point out that ‘Signal’ is a very different style of song from TWICE’s previous title tracks. Ooh-Aah, Cheer Up, TT, and Knock Knock all had their share of similarities and differences, but ‘Signal’ is by far the most different. It has a pacing and tempo thats similar to TT’s, but right off the bat we get Dahyun’s rapping, which is a first. (i also wanna point out that those 2 lines are literally all we get of Dahyun in the song. sianz) One of the progressions i noticed was that the chorus only happens twice. Most songs out there have a chorus that are repeated 3 times in a song, sometimes 4. But Signal only did it twice. And there was no bridge. Instead what happened is we got an extended intro verse of Momo and Mina rapping (which is repeated in the outro). I’m not saying i disliked the raps, but i felt it odd that a bridge would be left out entirely. Including one would’ve improved the song flow and dynamics tremendously.
The dance itself is... quite nice. I’ve only seen the whole performance a few times now, but the chorus choreo seems alright. It’s definitely simple and easy to remember. But visually its not as impactful as TT or even KK.
But the song does have redeeming points. For one, Jeongyeon is finally given more lines for once, and she shows us that she deserves them. Tzuyu and Sana carried the chorus excellently, despite having no other lines throughout the song. Jihyo and Nayeon sound amazing, singing in their natural vocal range, and it was a pleasant surprise to hear Momo and Mina rapping.
Overall, i still gotta be honest. The song itself was pleasant to listen to and i believe its the beginning of a new image for TWICE, leaving behind (or at least, adding onto) their ‘aegyo’ concept and going for something a bit more grown-up. But granted, it wasn’t as good as it could’ve been. Adding a bridge and a third chorus would’ve redeemed it more, and honestly im not sure why JYP went with that song progression. Sounds kinda lacking. But the girls did excellently on their part. I hope they wont be too badly affected by all the haters and disappointed fan comments... In the end, this is all a journey for TWICE to keep developing their sound and image. TWICE may have achieved a LOT by now, but we cannot forget that they’re still growing and learning. They’re barely 2 years old, for crying out loud. They have a LONG way to go.
The music video was alright lol. Entertaining to watch but the alien face and ending scene was plain weird LOL. But thats all inconsequential.
If i have time i’d like to look into the other 5 songs of the new album too. I’ve only given them brief listens to but i’m very pleased with how they sound.
