Donna Summer - I Feel Love [Studio Version]  August 6, 1977 - 43 Years Ago Today: Donna Summer debuted at No. 86 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with her single, "I Feel Love." The single written by Summer, Pete Bellotte and Giorgio Moroder (who also produced) and was unlike anything ever heard on Top 40 radio. It peaked at No. 6 on November 12, 1977 and became her 6th chart entry and second Top Ten following "Love To Love You Baby," which peaked at No. 2 for two weeks beginning February 7, 1976. These two singles were the first of 12 singles to be certified Gold which also included three Platinum singles. "I Feel Love" was the first electronic hit to peak inside the Top Ten and to take the Disco world by storm with its heavy rotation in dance clubs. It also peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard National Disco Top 40 (now the Billboard Dance Songs Chart) and No. 9 on the Billboard R&B Chart. In 1995, a remix of the single peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart. The song was lifted from Summer's thematic album, "I Remember Yesterday." The album's theme represented a stylistic progress through time. The title track of the "I Remember Yesterday," album represented the 1940s, the 1950s "Love's Unkind," the 1960s "Back in Love Again," the 1970s and the album concluded with the future, "I Feel Love," which showcased the "futuristic" segment of the 1977 album. Upon hearing the single, and according to David Bowie, then in the middle of recording of his Berlin Trilogy with Brian Eno, its impact on the genre's direction was recognized early on. One day in Berlin, Eno came running in and said to Bowie, "I have heard the sound of the future." At that time, he placed "I Feel Love," on the turntable. He said, "This is it, look no further. This single is going to change the sound of club music for the next fifteen years." Which was pretty accurate." The only part of that prediction is that "I Feel Love," is still considered the blueprint of all songs that are considered under the genre of electronica, dance and trance 43 years later. To quote the late Barry White, this song was "the first, the last, the everything." It was and it is. Rest in peace, Donna, and thanks for the incredible music. Donna Summer was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
