Shade, the Changing Man (1990) #4
#I’m intrigued by how Shade is being portrayed here as a ‘sensitive soul wrapped in a butcher’s apron’#it actually seems that this body is what’s allowing him to be a sensitive soul to me#considering how his body back on Meta was essentially lobotomized#after he broke into a girl’s bedroom to watch her in her sleep cause he was in love with her#and it’s noted how he used to cry at sunsets as a child but didn’t after his treatment with the ‘sacred laser’#yet he nearly does at the end of this issue#this ‘dulling’ of a person seems to be standard treatment on Meta#it’s just that Shade got it at a younger age than most#this Shade was essentially the villain of Shade the Changing Woman#and was portrayed as treating his romantic partners including Kathy pretty terribly#so I wonder how much of that was meant to be innate to him and how much it meant to be understood as the influence of the body he stole#which had belonged to a remorseless serial killer#the story of him breaking into a girl’s room to watch her sleep shows that he had issues before that#dc#rac shade#my posts#comic panels
