eiffel returning to earth and encountering people and places and things that he's known so closely for years - that some part of him might even instinctively feel he should recognize - but without the ability to consciously remember them vs. lovelace returning to earth and seeing all those familiar things and knowing them, and knowing how they've changed in her absence, but being unable to shake the part of her that keeps telling her she's seeing them for the first time. how both of these could be used as an exploration of trauma, and returning to a place (that hasn't changed at all; that's changed too much) that you no longer fit into; that rubs up against the changed shape of your life in raw and uncomfortable places.

#wolf 359 #w359 #doug eiffel #isabel lovelace #not quite sure how to articulate this but. mm.#eiffel having burnt his bridges before he ever left vs. lovelace's family already having mourned her ... hm.#i'm going to keep saying if eiffel gets his memory back it should be through an Eiffel Version of change of mind #i'm never going to be able to tell that story the way i want it to be told but it makes so much sense to me.#and there's a lot i think you could tell in a post-canon story about how. being on earth is going to add new angles to personal issues #they thought they'd mostly resolved. ie. minkowski's identity as commander is something she's learning to let go of by the finale #but once they get back to earth? she's going to feel responsible for eiffel and hera #and it's going to be something she'll have to work through again.#and determine who she is to them and how she fits into their lives #and whatever happens with koudelka... it's been a long time and she's a different person. it's complicated.#and i won't even start talking about hera here because that's an infinite can of worms. they are all really going to need each other
