There's no logical explanation for how much i love characters being "the" something.

Like, even when it's just a title or nickname people gave them, like "the Mist Warrior" or something - it just sounds really cool. Also, it comes with a reputation, it means their actions made them famous for a specific thing. These characters are always interesting.

But it's even more interesting when it's something that's passed on, when there's always exactly one person (or creature) with that name in the world.

Like the Dark One. Or the Distortion.

These aren't just titles, they come with being a specific thing. When you become that thing, you're still the person you were before to some extent, but you also become a completely different being. It might be the power that corrupts you, or just your new nature forcing you to be a certain way. Either way, you will probably become almost unrecognizable to the people who knew you before that, even if your (currently visible) physical form hasn't changed. Because to some extent, you are now also that thing, a thing that was so many people before you, which obviously also impacts you.

Who even are you then? Are you the person or the creature?
