Window Sill, Andrew Palmer

A stormy day in Port Gaverne- not able to go out and paint. A Geranium in a pot on the window sill, wild wind and sea outside. I had a small canvas prepared and my oil paints were ready to go, so in a moment of quiet stillness I sat and painted. It was spontaneous and I was transported beyond time. At the end of the day I put the canvas to one side in the studio and thought no more of it until I came to considering which paintings to frame for my recent exhibition. This painting 'Window Sill' came into its own, and, being my most recent painting, has indicated a new departure for me. In its 'unthinkingness' and combination of inside and out side, - soft growing nature and wild stormy sea-- abstract expressionist elements and figurative representational drawing- all without me having to try to hard- it is an understated painting, but one which is very important to me.

Well, Andrew, my first private tutor at SOAS (1993-1996). What to say is Syria today? Better, what says the Christian God to all of it, human beings included? I do not know. I only see the pics on the Internet, etc...no clue why the war there is some. No clue why the news never tell the origin of the war in world historical terms. So, we ask, what does god tell about it, no human being ever wants to tell. I think we do not understand that gods truth is dependent on each subjects that governs the people’s existence. Well, which one is “war”? I think it is the work of Alois Brunner, some tanky robot’s machinery. Driving over bodies, cuting churches into caky peaces and parts, no party at all! So, Nadines and her around 1500 syriac kids in Switzerland (no parents anymore) have hacked it: Alois Brunner. How should you read our AS (scroll, herer, up to 118 Theorems)? Seek man you understand (in words spelled out, ask then, if the rest I miss, how to complete it in human terms...).

I definitely have a chest cold today. All good though, I just couldn’t breathe well.No reason not to work out a bit.

We did the Volunteer park water tower. I did 5 sets. One set I sprinted.

The Road to Sougia, Andrew Palmer

In the series that I painted in Crete recently. We travelled extensively and made the trip to Sougia on the south coast many times. The perspective created by the winding mountain roads and the colours, especially in the evening when the sun was low, were extraordinary. This painting in mixed media- oil pastel , dry pastel and charcoal, is an abstract 'compound image' of those trips and evocative of the inspirational time that I spent there. The painting is in the above mixed media on fine quality paper, mounted, framed and glazed.
