MY BIG FAT SOFA

“My Big Fat Sofa is an adaptation of the AtOne sofa, a continuation of the studios research into the anthropomorphsation of furniture. The piece explores the relationship between the two material types, the subject, soft and malleable and the object, cold and rigid. The final works is a celebration of the two merging together to create a new biomorphic and anthropomorphic form, unsettling and inviting both at once.

This works was commissioned by the Crafts Council and The New Craftsmen for their show at Design Miami.” (Charlottekingsnort)

Thie juxtaposition of hard and rigid with comfort could be an angle that I adapt rather than looking specifically at comfort. 

Babafelt

“Babafelt is an easy chair evolved from the FeltUp chair.

Babafelt is made from thick natural wool felt. The felt sheet is cut and folded to make a cocoon-like space in which to sit, which responds to the occupants’ movements and hugs them as they lean back.

The wooden frame is made by traditional British craftsman who masterfully shape the walnut timber. The thick walnut legs are steam bent to follow the natural curve of the felt.  

Felt is a high tech ecological material which comes from a low tech renewable source. The felt is made from high quality wool fibres which are mechanically pressed using heat, moisture and pressure. The outcome is long lasting, resistant against fire and moisture and acts as a natural insulator to noise. “ (Charlottekingsnort)
