I have just realised that it's new year's eve.

Well, staying up past midnight is easy for me as my sleep scedule's a bit of a wreck. I don't have anything that I'm really thrilled about for 2024 (apart from deltarune chapter 3 and 4 possibly coming out that year) and I'm ending on a really lame year art wise as I still don't have my computer and I don't want to have to reinstall drivers and stuff. At least I have the excuse to make the 2024 drawings folder on my backup USB.

I like having things in chronological order.

Anyway, here's the first and last drawings from each year because why not.

2019:

This one only dates back to the 20th July as this was before I took art seriously as a hobby. I drew this in MS paint for a roblox game I was making.

This dates back to the 25th December and I drew this in ibis paint x on my dad's old phone that me and my brothers shared. To play music in the background, I would have youtube as a window at the top and listen to the same 5 songs on loop. This took a considerable amount of time for some reason.

2020:

This dates back to the 18th January and I drew this on my phone as I just got it at this point (the same phone that I still have currently). I had no idea what I was doing and it shows.

This dates back to the 29th December and it seems like I've discovered undertale. This was when I started using my crappy laptop again and I drew this with the touchscreen it had (it was one of those hybrid laptop-tablet things) with my finger and autodesk sketchbook.

2021:

The first one is technically the first of 2021 as it dates back to the 16th of January, but I've posted that one a lot whenever I redraw it every year so here's the drawing I drew the day after. It was for an animation meme but I saved it into the folder anyway for some reason.

I was trying to model in blender for the first time towards the end of 2021 so the last picture is a boring sketch of anatomy from the 31st December to be used as refrence. The last actual artwork was a day before and at this point I had a little drawing tablet and was posting art on Newgrounds. I also started using medibang paint pro as autodesk sketchbook stopped working.

2022:

The first drawing I have in my 2022 folder was technically from 10:30 PM on the 31st as I got impatient, but I put it here anyway. It's a gif but I made it into a png so I can put it on a tumblr post. Technically the first one was this drawing I made about 12 hours later on the 1st January. On newgrounds it's regarded as being in 2021 as it's in EST and my time zone is a couple hours ahead.

The last drawing I have dates back to the 27th December where I was experimenting with art styles as I had just gotten a new idea for a game (what is now known as Roboska LV).

2023:

Both of these date back to the 1st January however the seccond one was exported 40 minuites later according to the meta data. The first one is another redraw while the seccond one is a character profile and I just realised there's no shading on the hoodie.

This dates back to the 9th December and I haven't been able to draw anything digitally since my computer's botched surgery on the 16th. I have drawn some stuff in my notebook though, so here's the "final" drawings of 2023 (basically anything in my notebook since the 9th). The dates are in the bottom corners. I didn't bother with fixing the lighting.

I drew that picture of Kokichi Oma in the dark with only the light of my phone torch as I drew it while a film was playing in my school sports hall with dominos pizza. The last 2 I drew on the last day of school while completly ignoring everyone partying in the form room.

I got a book on how to draw in a manga art style so this is me trying to figure out how to adapt the tips into my artstyle to make it not suck.

Looking back, I don't think my change in art style from 2023 is as stark as the other years. I don't like how my art keeps changing and I want to just keep it at a consistent "very very good" and leave it at that as the little changes annoy me as I like consistency.

In terms of actual new year stuff, I'll probably just rewatch "who framed roger rabbit?" and go downstairs when it's near midnight to watch the fireworks on TV.

My commentary, for anyone interested:

January: I straight-up spent most of a month working on this drawing alone. I'm still pretty proud of the general vibes and how it came out in the end, but I learned that I should really, really work on composition. A lot of working with this one was figuring out how the figures would balance with each other, the fire, and the trees. It still turned out well, but I could've spent a lot less time working on it if it weren't for that. February: I also drew some rwby that month (it seems so long since we've gotten any new RWBY episodes which isn't a knock on the crew, but a knock on the passage of time), but I decided to drop my picture of Voe here. I feel like I need to use Luke's Jedi Temple Grounds as a background at least once a year, and also, Voe! Fun fact: the twitter crop cut off right at where the water begins in the slightly uncensored version, hence the hastily-added bandeau to make it clear that it wasn't a blatantly nsfw art. March: I was feeling stagnant about my art (when am I not, recently?) so I did a screenshot redraw again, and though it was loose and sketchy, I really enjoyed the vibes of this one—I think it was the catalyst that pushed me into finally buying a new paint program that was a bit beefier than medibang paint. The reception on this one was also fantastic compared to the usual Eighth Brother art, so I think people just like screenshot redraws haha. April: Pyreny!!!! I've been shipping this pretty much since Pyre and Tierny glanced in each other's directions on Star Wars: Resistance, so I decided to finally put a piece of finished art to it. I really love how this one came out, and it might even be my favorite of the year. Once again, composition is key, and I was worried I had too much negative space in the bg, but the window took care of that. Also, this is one of the first times I've done a full interior background and I really love how it turned out. Also, Sumalee Montano thought it was cool, which is a pretty big plus and ego boost.  May: Is it really a year if I don't do something for a long-dead fandom? Anyway, it was nice to take a crack at John and Christopher again and some good old fashioned repressed gay romance. June: This was a fun art month for me—work was less busy and I had inspiration in spades since I'd just gotten a new paint program. There are a few solid contenders from this month, but the vibes of this one could not be beat. Also, it's nice to draw something for inquisitors who get less attention. Also, I'd forgotten how proportions worked for this and the next month? References were my lifeline. July: This one's simple (save the anatomy and perspective practice) but I like it and it looks like other people liked it too.  August: I threw this together for Remembering Resistance week in about a day since I had no inspiration up until that point. The proportions are sort of wack, but it turned out cute and okay all things considered. I have to throw this one in as an honorable mention, but I really did not want three inquisitor ones in a row, so.  September: Sometimes you just want to draw your ship kissing but not spend an entire month on it. Also, I remember about once a year that I enjoy two-toned art so this was fun. Once again, the effort piece of the month was an inquisitor but five in a row would've been ridiculous, so pyreny it is.  October: This is where the year got busy, and time (and inspiration) to draw was a precious thing. I really enjoy this one though, so I'm glad that I got to draw one good thing that month. This was the year of referencing poses, and I think that this one produced a quality product. Also, fun fact. I've drawn Eighth many times, but his armor is still a pain in the ass every time you try to draw it from a new position. November: This month was rough, buddy, but at least I drew Luke's Jedi. December: Also a rough month. Low on art inspiration, and though I've done a few sketches, no finished product. This one that I've posted is the closest I've gotten, and it's a bit of a self-indulgent sketch, so no post here.  Ultimately,

the end goal for 2022 is to dedicate more time for/have more time to do art. Have more inspiration. If my motivation isn't to draw fanart, to draw original stuff. To branch out. To work on my linework. To draw more ocs. To draw more star wars. To draw more stuff that's not star wars. I just want to draw.

1. Honestly uhhh I have several favourite art pieces from this year (some of them aren't dream smp related, crazy) but like, I honestly came to love all of my shit which is crazy. I'll add my favourite pieces after the cut and explain why I like them, if that's alright

5. OH!!! I think I've talked about this before, but one of my most favourite pieces is Quackity holding Slime dying, you know the one (hopefully) and it has a lot of details that I tried to leave there. I'm still thinking about redrawing it but with more little details this time. I also like the accidental tarot card art with Quackity in his butcher army arc outfit, simply because I made a tarot card on accident, I think it's fucking hilarious. But i generally try to leave details in my comics (one of the overlooked details in one of my comics is in the "mike hawk" comic with ranboo, I don't remember anyone noticing a big hole in the wall next to the front door, I left it there because in the "previous" comic of that series Techno got slammed into a wall when Quackity opened the door. It's not that noticeable, but I found it funny anyway). I can't really point out my most favourite detail in ALL of my shit because once again I try to leave a lot of them, and there're very specific details that I like in all of my drawings

21. Boy oh boy what I REALLY want to work on is like symbolism in my drawings and all of that. I'm always fascinated by artists who manage to just think out every little detail in their artworks and leave so much symbolism and details in them, and it's just a dream of mine to be able to do something like that. I have a lot of respect for iconography and people who draw icons in general, because it was just so... so fucking insane about how much symbolism they have. Also heraldry and colour symbolism, it's just SO fucking interesting to me. I really want to work on that. Also colouring and shading probably.

I fucking love schlatt okay. It was a pleasure to draw. I personally think this is a great drawing and like, i don't know i just really like it :D it has probably one of the best faces I've ever drawn. I also like the hair on this one :)

FIRST FULL ART QUACKITY DRAWING I'VE MADE I THINK??? I really wanted to make it look cartoony in a way, but i really like the lineart here and i tried to have somewhat of a neon lighting because i just. I like neon lighting okay. Though it looks very out of place here :D still, this is my first quackity drawing. Poggers!

This idea lived in my mind rent free for a while. That's about it. I wanted to make an essay on this, but I'm much happier that i made an art on it. It has a lot of obvious mistakes, but I just really like it

1) accidental tarot card. 2) i had a lot of fun drawing it. I also liked the idea of making a scales with hearts uneven (to show injustice and also portray that Quackity was just playing with lives which is fucked up). Also the way the scar actually splits his face, I was thinking about maybe just straight up splitting his entire head to like, somewhat symbolise how his mind was split into two parts - the before Quackity (his first days on the smp, a man who just wanted to change the word for the better) and the after Quackity (a twisted evil fucker driven by vengeance and need of power) but I didn't know how to portray it so I just left it be

Some notes about Sharpy’s facial features

I meander for a while about drawing facial features, my novice sketching process, and the best drawn male eyes I’ve ever seen.

For fun, and because he is so adorable (sigh, I can’t trick anyone into thinking I’m not a girl gamer for five seconds--not that I want to but it’s pretty funny that I couldn’t for the life of me do it, oh well), I wanted to point out some things about this sketch (and a few Sharpen sketches I’ve done so far). I’m sure that others do this as well... To make Sharpen more unique and seem like an individual, I’ve placed some tell-tale features in every art of him that I do.

Curl in left eyebrow

“Elvis” curl at his hairline, helps make him seem playful and even himbo-ish, since that’s his personality

And I can’t explain it but the imperfect hair makes him seem more approachable, like any one of us

Tiny scar on his top lip on the left side. I haven’t decided headcanon for that scar yet; it’s just something that I really wanted to do. I think my pencil slipped once and I was like ‘Yaaaas, don’t change that!’

Some musculature over the eyes

Extremely careful little dots in specific places to indicate more musculature on face. Getting annoyed and erasing the dot and putting it back a milimeter further out is like... WHY do I do it? But I keep doing it, I want them

Lightly defined, high cheekbones (Trixany’s are so strong, I had to really train myself out of giving him super stand-out ones)

Boxier eyes... they do not at all resemble the original inspiration for these eyes when I started sketching him, but I maintained a little of the ‘mystery’ of unusual eyes and strong lashes on a guy (see more below)

Eyes set wide apart

Together, the larger, wide-set eyes give him a kind of baby face? That happened on its own, it wasn’t planned. Sometimes I can see the lil’ Gerber baby in there

A little divot at the top lining of his ears

What else... Well, Tumblr is here to let us indulge in our art and our creativity. I guess I just wanted to say I like how small details like these work together, almost as a unique fingerprint, to keep your character, especially their face, looking like... well, themselves.

Just curious--anyone out there want me to draw Sharpen in a specific setting? I’m getting better at it; I think I can take on a request, though I’m kind of intimidated. I don’t think I’ll do commissions at any point in time. But a prompt for sketching practice? Hell yeah.

These art pieces take me a really long time to do, but the way. I’ll outline something then get kind of exhausted or this uneasy feeling? Like I’m not sure if I really want this, or if it’s right? If it does feel right, then I’ll come back weeks later when I have free time, and at that point, sit for hours sketching and filling in everything else.

Then I get mad when all the little nuances I put on paper get lost when you scan... anyway.

Okay so I almost forgot--these are the prettiest, coolest eyes I’ve ever seen on a male character, ever. EVER. Obviously, I didn’t re-create these all the way (and not really at all) for Sharpen, but I did go with a boxier style, rather than completely round almond eyes. Gennosuke’s eyes were actually central to the plot of Basilisk, I found out later. Here’s another great pic of Gennosuke--now this wallpaper is badass. I remember I had this one for a long time; it was too, too perfect.

Now that’s the power of detail. Yes, there’s a sword and it shines and it’s at the heart of the picture. But the only thing you need, the only thing that matters in this entire artwork are actually those eyes. Blue and white coloring throughout, but then wow, those golden eyes. And the gold isn’t what does it really, it’s the powerful dark lashes that encircle them more like calligraphy, the eyebrows that unite with those... less human, more wild. The man is practically a tiger. That’s the kind of ferocity you’re hit with, the kind of wonder you’re filled with here.

Someone also clearly sat down and thought about how breathtaking it is when you’re right across the table from a guy with eyelashes longer than yours and then you feel that stab of jealousy, along with admiration. Sounds odd, but I think some folks out there know exactly what I mean...

It’s that split second before the instant crush happens. I try to make Sharpy’s eyes do that penetrating ‘instant crush’ thing whenever I draw him. Less because it’s sexy, more because it’s... personal? This is hard to explain. But it feels like he’s having a conversation with you and it’s okay that you’re there with him. He expects you to respond and participate; he thinks he’s your friend. I believe I draw Trixany’s eyes the same way if she’s not posed doing something over-the-top. If she’s just relaxing and sharing herself with you, then it’s a friendly, loving gaze.

The gym t-shirt sketch is the first time I didn’t make Sharpy ‘penetrate the camera’ as they say. It was hard not to redraw it so that he was... decided he was looking in the mirror or something instead.

When I look at Sharpen’s sketch at the very top of this post, I keep wanting him to stop looking elsewhere and look right at me. Right at the viewer. What a cool effect that is. What is that? I don’t know if it’s the context of the other drawings or what. Well, it’s not some magical work of art, only something curious I noticed.

Okay, I could ramble forever. I like art and I like to write so that’s a super-intense combination. I’d love for other artists on here to talk about their process, actually write it out and blather on creatively like I just did. It’s fun. And you learn about somebody’s personality too.

Yes, it’s definitely nice to talk about sketching and the special rainbow of things that go into it sometimes.

FIRST DAY ON TUMBLR

Hey everyone! I’m Ace and this is my first time using Tumblr.  I’m old enough to adult but young enough that no one takes me seriously. Its fine though. I’d rather work on my books or read fanfics on Wattpad. Or plan world domination. Whatever.

Anyway here’s some additional info about myself because I have no idea what to write on the first post:

My last name literally means Lord/God hence I go by the pronouns They/Them.

I’m a demiromantic asexual (still figuring it out though).

I’ve got so many screws loose that it’s astonishing that no one’s diagonised me with mania or bipolar disorder yet.

I hoard weird items. I mean a marvel shrine is reasonable (almost) but a tic tac collection is not.

I’m an artist and my art is beautiful. However my abilities are only limited to mimicking other artworks and even though I can redraw or repaint somehow complex pieces with ease I cannot make any art of my own.

I want to write a book someday. I’ve got the OCs, plot, worlds..everything. But I cannot process the ideas onto paper.

I love etymology and languages. I moved across countries when I was 3? Not sure. But this enabled me to learn many new languages. As of now I know Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, UK English, US English, Internet slang, Konkani, French (Yes, I know I went overboard on the English part). Out of the above, I can only understand, read and speak Konkani, Englishes, Urdu and Hindi. I have difficulty in speaking in the other languages.

I’m currently learning Latin, German, Spanish and Japanese.

I’m agnostic but celebrate festivals across all religions.

I love mathematics (only the numbers part).

I’m a nice person who doesn’t hate anyone or anything except Indian Classical Dance.

I prefer band music to mainstream pop.

If there’s one thing I like about the Internet it’s the stories. People are so diverse yet have such wonderful anecdotes. That’s one of the main reasons why I joined this website.

I’ve been reading textposts, watching debates and enjoying the never-ending fandom drama from the other websites, but Instagram and Pinterest could never come close to the real thing. Now that I’m on here I’m amazed at how amazing this community is. From art to crazy stories you guys truly have everything! I just hope that I’ll be able to join in soon enough.

As for the nature of this blog, I guess I’ll be posting personal stories, cool pics, art and shitposts. Just whatever that makes my heart go ‘wah’.
