sometimes you play vtm to be an uber-powerful and terrifying creature of the night, and sometimes you play vtm to be a bubbly little twink who spent half a century napping in a burnt out mansion before being brought out of torpor with a blood ritual to artificially heighten his generation (giving her technically everything she's ever wanted) in an expert political coup to usurp the cult of sun worshiping thin-bloods he had started and force them to formally join the sabbat

Danny: 🌎 Do they try to retain any part of their humanity? 

Yeah! Danny actually has a whopping 8 humanity, despite being some six years dead. Mostly, they just try to be the same kind and friendly person they were before. He does his best to feed in a way he finds ethical (essentially providing some temporary relief to those already a step away from the great hereafter), and not get into any fights. But, he also got pretty lucky with starting out under an attentive sire in a relatively sleepy city, so they haven't had any serious tests of their commitment to humanity yet.

🤝 What is their relationship with their sire like?

Pretty good, all things considered. Very teacher-student. Their personalities don't exactly gel- Katie is very by the books about most things and doesn't really appreciate his sense of humor or style- but they've made it work so far. There's also more than a little resentment from Danny for the way she views this as her having "saved his life" when as far as he can see all she "saved" him from was student loans.

Apollo: 🖤 How do they feel about being turned? (How did they adjust? Do they feel differently now than they did when they were first turned?)

At first is was shock, and the adjustment period was definitely rough- since his sire promptly abandoned him he ended up internalizing some wack shit about what this whole situation was. After that, she saw it as a divine ordeal, but since his little dirt nap the reality of this being like a curse Curse is slowly seeping in.

Kellen: 🧛‍♀️ Do they have any preference regarding who they feed on/how they feed?

I'm evil and decided to give Kel the Bond Junkie+Blood Leech combo, so yeah, feeding is kind of a big deal for them. Currently, they have an arrangement with their mawla, Bernadette, to feed (and consequently be bound) exclusively with her. B is also their employer, so they basically have a daily meeting scheduled (which Kel privately thinks of as a "dinner date") to catch up on what's being done that night and make sure Kel doesn't starve. Typically it's just the two of them in Bernadette's office, though sometimes her last meal is still slumped in the corner recovering (which Kel honestly hates, but would never dream of saying anything about), and Kel will kneel to accept her wrist and then desperately try to pay attention to whatever it is she's decided to talk about while they eat. if they're lucky she might play with their hair but then they're sure to miss anything being said

Cass: 💉 Have they sired anyone? If so - why, how and did they claim their childe?

Cass has both threatened and promised to turn a number of people, but has never delivered and probably never will. They know exactly how much of a pain in the ass they were as a fledgling, and though they doubt anyone could possibly cause as much of a problem for them as they did to Astrid, they still don't really see the point in all that work for basically no benefit. Like, you can blood bond people without making them immortal first- there really isn't any advantage to the sire for embracing someone that is worth the ordeal that is being responsible for a childe.

18. What’s your oc’s relationship like with their family?

Well, it was pretty great up until he vanished on his way to uni. Since then he's managed to keep some contact with his mother (who is Extremely Worried for him) but in order to keep his family from finding out what happened to them, and therefore relatively safe, he's had to act more antagonistic towards them. It sucks, and it hurts, and he's really not good at it, but he trusts that it's for the best and it's been working so far.

1.answered here 2. Does your oc have any nicknames? How did they get these nicknames?

Like with Danny, "Cass" is actually the nickname as her full name is Cassandra. Unlike Danny, Cass just started getting called Cass as a kid and rolled with it (subconsciously bc it has better gender than their full name).

Kellen:

13. What is your oc’s most prized possession? What’s the importance/meaning behind this item?

Oh man, Kel has so many Important Things it's hard to pick just one but I think it has to be Kaa. Kaa was a Ball Python and was the first snake Kel owned- and unfortunately he died shortly after they did (partly due to age but also in part due to neglect in the aftermath of their embrace). Kellen was absolutely devastated by this, and impulsively decided to fleshcraft his corpse into their own. It was kind of a rush job at first, but they've improved on it since, and now they have a snake embedded in their chest instead of a couple ribs. (close to their heart) (so they'll never be able to leave him alone again)

Apollo:

20. What does your oc’s bedroom/house look like? How does this reflect their personality?

Right now? Her house is the remnants of a burnt out west hollywood mansion that have sat untouched for 50 years. The "bedroom" she spent all that time sleeping in was a crawlspace under the stairs to the basement. I could spout some bullshit about how it reflects that she's "passed through fire" but really it just exhibits the shit fucking luck she had at the end of her chronicle.

38. Which one of your OCs would be the best dancer? objectively it's Apollo, he's literally a triple threat. the only caveat i'd put on that is he learned to dance in the 40s so like,, he's bringing a really weird vibe to the club yk

Feel free to share! honestly just the whole first session i played apollo in - it was the first time our group had met face to face after we all graduated high school since the pandemic ate our last semester together so none of us had actually seen eachother in like a year. it was just really nice to See My Friends Again and play Funny Vampires with them.

1. Your first OC ever? somewhere in the depths of the drawer with my old drawings from elementary school is the design for a guardians of gahoole oc called Aryn- a melanistic barn owl with rose gold battle claws. she was a total mary sue/self-insert but i was like,, not even 10, so i don't feel too bad about it

2. Do you have a personal favourite among your OCs? even just of the one's i've talked about on here, that's really hard. i've got to go with cass, but kellen is really growing on me the more i think about them

A character you rarely talk about? of the vampires, i def talk about apollo/leora the least. not bc i find her less interesting -i actually think he's probably one of my most interesting, since he's so vastly different from the archetypes i usually play to- but just bc talking abt her gets my hopes up abt being able to play her again, which is looking less and less likely. other than that, i don't think i've ever properly talked about Essin before, just tagged some posts. Essin is a pathfinder alchemist that i made actually around the same time as cass but only just got to use as a pc in a game recently. he's got three arms, a flying pig homunculous, and a character sheet that is a master class in minmaxing because i had like 8 years to optimize him. he's very evil and very fun to play, and i'd probably talk about him more if i had more pf mutuals than just you lmao

5. If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be? i feel like cass probably has like, the most mass appeal. and i also kind like the thought of her being popular enough that other people would like use them as an npc in their games- i think she'd make a very good addition to the political terrain of a chronicle, but since i have no idea if/when i'll ever st a large scale game, who knows if i'll ever get to use them like that

🍑 [PEACH] How do they show their kindness? How kind are they truly?

Cass is not a terribly kind person, as a baseline. She never had a great example of it to look up to, and the environment she grew up in tended to punish selfless behavior far more often than it was rewarded. But, they aren't incapable of it. The easiest way to earn their kindness is to be an obstacle towards something she wants and be open to that kind of manipulation, but the best way is to remind her of herself in some way. Cass is generally pretty ruthless with herself, but reflections of her own state can sometimes stoke those tiny motes of empathy into doing something selfless for someone else, since she feels like she herself shouldn't need it. In terms of how they show it, if it seems like Cass is being kind or supportive verbally, or through her presence, it is 100% completely fake and purely to achieve some goal. But, if Cass is being genuinely kind its almost certainly going to be through doing or giving something, usually anonymously if they can.

🌶️ [HOT PEPPER] Who would your OC declare their sworn enemy if they could meet them?

Ok initially this came to mind as a joke but honest to god I think in catching up on all the shit that happened while she was in torpor- learning about Ronald Reagan would fucking enrage her. Like, he's had beef with politicians before (he was literally a high profile cult leader in the 60's) but I think that motherfucker would take the cake in Apollo's mind as the worst of the worst and she would be sooooo pissed that he died before she woke up so she couldn't kill him herself.

🍌 [BANANA] Have parts of your OC been lost to time (in-universe)? What do they wish they could lose from themselves?

Though I haven't pinned down an exact timeline for Kellen, I don't think they've been a kindred for too terribly long- but regardless of that I'd say what they've lost more than anything is the desire for independence. When they first left home for college, they had it in their mind that they'd never be going back- that this was their escape and from here they'd be able to take control of everything and handle it on their own. Turns out they sucked shit at it, and their refusal to ask for help only made things worse. Consequently, going home again to take care of their mother felt like a defeat. Like being dragged back into the pit they'd spent their whole life trying to claw their way out of. But, in time and since being embraced and discovering how great it feels to be bound, they've sort of resigned themself to the idea that maybe they just weren't built to move through life on their own guidance. Some people were simply designed to be followers, rather than leaders, and there's no point wasting energy trying to break out of that role when they could be putting that effort towards finding someone worthwhile to follow- cause it certainly isn't Jesus. As for what they wish they could lose- they wish they cared less, specifically about their family. Kellen is a person of very intense emotions and very little control over them, and so much of the stress and strife in their life has come in part bc they simply couldn't stop caring about their shitty fucked up family in spite of all its done to hurt them. That's part of why they enjoy Bernadette as a regnant so much- her blood carries a hint of that almost primordial apathy that is the trujah curse, and it gives Kel a taste of what its like to not give a fuck.

i believe it was you who asked in a previous game about the moment where Cass was most afraid- well She's Lost Control is the song on Cass's list for that little freak out spiral caused by interacting w the madness network for the first time. It's the rug-pull song. It's also a classic goth rock track and I'm pretty sure I heard it the first time because one of the old vtm sourcebooks recommended joy division for mood music

like i mentioned in another playlist ask, i like to give my vtm characters each a "frenzy/go crazy go stupid" type song. Radiance, being the final boss music for a god of light felt very on brand for Leora going absolutely apeshit. Especially since this track, despite being very intense, still carries a certain elegance to it that Leora does as well.

House On A Hill is a song for Kellen's touchstones. After their mother passed, their dad remarried and now has two small kids with his new wife, along with their younger brother still living at home, and continues to let the family serve as a herd to their sire. Kel wishes they could put a stop to it, (even though they know being part of their Sire's herd lends their family a degree of protection from other kindred), or at least fully leave their family behind, but they find themself powerless to do either.

Cass: 10. Do they have any regrets?

Intellectually, they regret how they handled those first few years after their embrace. In hindsight, there are a thousand and one ways they could have gotten out sooner, or at least turned the situation more to their advantage. But on an emotional level it doesn't really register- see, one of the most self-projection-y aspects of Cass' character is that I don't see her as being able to actually feel much of anything in the regret/grief/remorse family of emotions. Like, she can logically understand when things could have gone better, or if she has lost something, or harmed someone, but it's just that- an understanding, not a feeling.

Kelley Kellen: 14. Do they have a hard time opening up to people?

It's kinda funny actually, because the way I see Kel opening up is very much along the lines of the folklore about vampires having to be invited in. Like, they would never take the initiative to go to someone to talk about something serious or personal. But, if you ask them directly about something they'll spill their guts in an instant- especially if its a figure of authority asking. They carry a lot of guilt (even for things they probably shouldn't) and while they hate to be a burden, they do love to be unburdened.

Apollo/Leora: 35. Do they believe in fate or do they believe they are in charge of their own destiny?

She believes very strongly in fate- that all of this is what she was destined for, that her whole mortal life was just the build up to the true test of being thrust into the darkness at the cusp of real power. Or, at least he did believe that (so strongly that in the v20 game it actually counted as True Faith), but now, as much as she will swear up and down that this is her reward, that she has emerged on the other side to walk again in the light, now she's not so sure...

i cannot claim any great familiarity with your OCs BUT since i reblogged it from you i want to offer you this: for each character, do the two you most hope someone will ask you about them because you have the answer locked loaded and ready to go and really want to talk about it

Cass: 7. Do they have any unusual fears? It's not exactly a "fear," or least you'd never hear them call it that, but Cass has an irrational and violent dislike of mirrors. The first thing she'll do in a new hideout or haven is go around and smash any mirrors there might be. For someone who has spent almost the entirety of their undeath in a cartoon character-like static wardrobe of white long-sleeve t-shirt and black jeans, you wouldn't expect them to be particularly fussy about their looks, but the truth is that in life she was very conscious of how she presented herself. She dressed casually, but in a very precise way that gave her a lot of confidence, and since she can no longer see herself in mirrors the inability to properly check how she looks is a very very sore point.

28. Are they a #gamer? Very much so, though less through actual skill and more through the most bullshit hacks you've never even heard of. Like, Cass is the kind of person who will invade you in dark souls and get you insta-banned just by spawning in. And she loves it. Auto-aim, wall hacks, you name it she's got it, and she'll call you disconcertingly personal insults over vc (+she'll doxx you if you report her). They have a whole pc dedicated to running tf2 bots. That kind of gamer.

Kellen: 8. Do they collect anything? If so what and why?

Kel has always been really fascinated with bugs, particularly beetles, and as they got older they graduated from critter catchers, to asking for pinned beetles for birthdays, to eventually learning how to preserve their own (and also having adult money to spend on more exotic specimens). At this point, their whole basement is full of various preserved insects and is of a level of maintenance and documentation that for the purpose of their Tzimisce bane counts as part of the "museum collection" that is their charge.

37. Are they religious? If so do they have a strong sense of faith, are they uncertain, or are they somewhere in between?

They were raised catholic, and they have a lot of complicated feelings about it. In part just because, you know, catholicism, but also because their pastor growing up was also secretly a vampire who had ghouled their father before they were even born, has been using that as an in to feed off their family for literally their entire life, and would eventually be the one to turn them into a vampire too. However, despite no longer being traditionally religious, they do still consider themself a "believer" in that they ascribe to many of the suppositions christianity puts forth about the world- and what they've learned of the Book of Nod has only reinforced that. And, while they no longer see God and Jesus as worthy of their devotion, they've never quite been able to quell their faith in the guidance of a higher being and their desire to worship- so instead they have redirected those feelings towards their regnant, Bernadette.

Apollo/Leora: 16. Do they have or want kids?

Apollo was actually embraced the night his son was born. He never wanted a kid, or even a wife, but this was an era where that was necessary to protect his career in Hollywood, and she had threatened to leave him if he didn't give her a kid so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . He would then go on to accidentally drink her to death after trying to hide from her after she got home, because he had no fucking clue what was happening and was wild with hunger. He also ended up ghouling his infant son, again because he was delirious and had no idea what else to feed him but blood. Luckily for him, he was (and still is) filthy fucking rich as was able to, for the most part, cover it all up. Lily killed herself in a fit of post-partum depression, and he was going to step back from public life to raise Hector as a single father. mhm. yep. (definitely not going to start a cult of sun-worshiping vampires)

32. If they could change one thing about themselves what would it be?

Honestly, at this point, despite what she would tell you if asked, or even what she tells herself, she wants nothing more than to be human again. Go back to some semblance of a normal life, ignorant of all this crazy bullshit supernatural stuff, let the world end and just not have to worry about it. "Golconda" isn't a word she would ever dare to utter- obviously thin-bloods are the future and what she has now is the culmination of her ascendancy, but like.... why stop with being able to walk in the sunlight yk?

i'm not sure "happy" exactly applies to anything on cass's playlist, but Steppin' Out is by far the one with the most pep. It's mostly on here bc it was the opening song for and anime called durarara!! which inspired my base concept for Cass way back in middle school when i was in the midst of a mild weeb phase, but honestly it's a great song and i stand by it.

apollo's saddest song? well that's gotta be the mitski then. right before his embrace apollo was in a pretty low place- about to become a father of a child he never wanted with a wife he never loved, he threw an all out rager to "celebrate" the news and got trashed as hell low-key trying to od. He already felt half dead before whoever it was that embraced him decided to play life's cruelest joke and damn him just to give him a reason to live.

the most recent song i added for Kel is Snakes from the Arcane sound track. I like to give each of my vtm characters at least one "frenzy/go crazy go stupid" type song and with all the other snake imagery i associate with Kel i felt like this was perfect
