Here are some essential tips from Arizona Auto Repair and Towing to ensure your holiday road trip is both safe and enjoyable:
Before you even hit the road, there are a few things you need to do to prepare your car for winter driving.
Check your battery: Cold weather can put a strain on your car's battery, so it's important to make sure it's in good working condition. You can have your battery tested at most auto parts stores like Arizona Auto Repair and Towing
Check your tires: Make sure your tires are properly inflated and have plenty of tread. You may also want to consider getting winter tires, which are designed to provide better traction in snow and ice.
Check your fluids: Check your antifreeze, coolant, and windshield washer fluid levels. Make sure you have enough of each to last for your trip.
Pack an emergency kit: This should include a first aid kit, a flashlight, a blanket, and some snacks.
Plan your route: This will help you avoid any potential hazards, such as closed roads or hazardous weather conditions.
Check the weather forecast: This will help you be prepared for any changes in the weather.
Bring your car in for an inspection before you hit the road. At Arizona Auto Repair & Towing, we can spot and address potential issues with your vehicle and get you on your way safely. Call us at (724) 868-2886 to schedule an appointment or just stop on by.

Is Your Car Spring Ready?
Now is a great time to prepare your car or truck for spring and summer. Essential maintenance now can help prevent major, expensive problems from developing when your time on the road increases in the warmer months. Before you head out on a relaxing day trip, here are some tips  from Arizona Auto Repair to make sure your car is ready for your Spring outings:
Have Your Car Battery Tested and Replaced, if necessary                                    Cold weather wears out plugs and batteries faster than warmer weather. Check and replace your plugs as needed, and consider a voltage test on your battery to make sure it’s ready for all of your fun Spring plans.
Check Tire Pressure and Tread                                                                            Driving in the winter means pressure fluctuates with the temperature. Check your tire pressure and tread, and swap out to all seasons if you have winter tires on. It’s also worth getting your alignment checked as potholes and icy roads may have impacted it. Make an appointment to get your tires swapped out by calling Arizona Auto Repair and Towing
Deep-Clean Your Vehicle                                                                                      All winter long, you’ve driven your vehicle down roads covered in ice melt and salt. Those chemicals are sprayed onto your vehicle and can make it corrode or rust more quickly, especially on the underbody, wheel wells, and lower body panels.
Rinse this build-up from your vehicle and give it a very thorough exterior cleaning. Most car washes perform this service in a higher-end wash, and it’s absolutely worth it to protect your investment.
Clean the Interior, Too                                                                                              Don’t forget about spring-cleaning your car’s interior! These compounds also can affect the look and life expectancy of your floor mats and more.
Remove and wash your floor liners, then vacuum and clean the carpets. Apply protective products to your dashboard, console, and door panels. These can prevent fading and cracking in the sun.
Check the Condition of Your Brakes                                                                      Brakes are one of the most important safety features of your vehicle. Get your brakes inspected seasonally to ensure they’re in good condition, but especially in the spring; winter driving puts more stress on brakes than all other seasons.
Listen for new sounds, like squealing, squeaking, or grinding, when you apply your brakes. Even if they sound OK to you, it’s worth having a professional take a look at them during a regular car maintenance check at Arizona Auto Repair and Towing
Replace the Windshield Wiper Blades                                                                Windshield wiper blades take a beating during the winter. Between ice accumulation and having to use them more often to rinse salt and build-up from your auto glass, they have to work hard.
It’s good to inspect them and replace them as part of your seasonal car maintenance list. It’s a simple way to take care of your car, truck, or SUV.
Check and Replace Fluids As Needed                                                              Your oil and transmission fluids keep your vehicle running smoothly. And your windshield wiper fluid is important for keeping a clear view of the road.
Oil changes in spring ensure your motor oil is the proper thickness for the season. And transmission fluid should be changed on a schedule as outlined in your owner’s manual. Contact Arizona Auto Repair and Towing to schedule your oil change today.
To ensure your vehicle is thoroughly inspected and ready for spring, bring it to Arizona Auto Repair and let our professionals take care of it, so you and your vehicle can enjoy the spring season! Whether it's routine maintenance or major repairs, you can count on us. Call us at (724) 868-2886 to schedule an appointment or just stop on by.

Winter Maintenance Tips For Your Vehicle
The weather has been cold recently, and winter is here. It’s time to think about winter car maintenance to keep your car running smoothly in cold weather. Here are a few things you should definitely check or have checked by a mechanic like Arizona Auto Repair and Towing before the cold weather hits.
Tires
Good tire treads are essential in driving on slippery roads. If your treads are worn, it’s a good idea to get new tires before the snow hits. You can also opt to switch out your all-season tires for winter tires, which are specially designed to get maximum traction on snow and ice.
Engine Hoses
Inspect cooling system hoses for leaks, cracks or loose clamps. Also, squeeze the hoses and replace any that are brittle or have an excessively spongy feeling.
Oil
Oil tends to thicken when it gets cold, and oil with a W in its name (e.g. 5W-30) is designed to resist that. Next time you change your oil, make sure you replace it with a W-formulated oil.
Battery
Batteries tend to suffer a lot in cold weather. It’s a good idea to get yours tested before the weather starts dropping below freezing. You can have it professionally tested at an auto parts store or service shop. If your battery is defective or worn out, it’s time to replace it before an emergency occurs.
Wiper blades
Wiper blades need to be changed more often than you think. If it’s been more than six months since you last replaced your wiper blades, it’s a good idea to do it now. New wiper blades are going to be much more effective clearing snow off your windshield.
Antifreeze
Antifreeze, also known as coolant,  keeps your engine from freezing. Make sure your antifreeze is filled up. Most mechanics actually recommend a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water, as this makes the freezing point of your engine lower than it would with just antifreeze.
Check Your Tire Pressure
Your tires can lose a lot of air during cold weather driving, so be sure to check your tire pressure every time you fill the gas tank. Driving on under-inflated tires can be dangerous, so you should take this step seriously. Getting into the habit of checking the tire pressure with every fill-up is the best way to stay safe on the road.
Now is the perfect time to get a head start on winter weather. Snow and ice are hard on your car, and preparing ahead of time can keep you and your vehicle safe no matter how bad the weather gets.
Lights
Check the operation of all headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, emergency flashers and back-up lights. Replace any burnt out bulbs.
Air Filter
Check the engine air filter by holding it up to a 60-watt light bulb. If light can be seen through much of the filter, it is still clean enough to work effectively. However, if light is blocked by most of the filter, replace it.
Brakes
If there is any indication of a brake problem, have the system inspected by a certified technician like Arizona Auto Repair and Towing to ensure all components are in good working order.
You need to do these every winter for the safety of your car and yourself. Whether it's routine maintenance or major repairs, you can count on us. Call Arizona Auto Repair and Towing at (724) 868-2886 to schedule an appointment or just stop on by.

Winter Road Trip Tips For the Holidays
With winter just around the corner, people are already finalizing their holiday plans. Many are planning a winter road trip this holiday season. If you’re one of those people planning a road trip for winter, you should make the necessary preparations to avoid issues while you are on your road trip. Here are some tips from Arizona Auto Repair & Towing to consider while you are planning your road trip for winter.
Test Your Battery
If your engine’s slow to start, the lights dim when starting, or the car battery’s old, you may need a new one. Most car batteries last three to five years, so if your battery is more than three years old, get it checked before a cold weather road trip. A mechanic at Arizona Auto Repair & Towing can easily test the battery and charging system. Finally, make sure you have jumper cables on hand and know how to use them.
Check Your Lights
It gets dark early on a winter road trip, so be sure that your headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, and emergency flashers are all working. Replace any burnt-out bulbs before getting on the road
Measure Air Pressure in Your Tires
Tires are probably one of the most important parts of safe winter driving. Make sure all four tires have the proper tread for the best traction while driving in potentially snowy condition. If you live in (or are heading to) an area with heavy winter weather, snow tires will provide the best traction. Regular, all-season tires work well in light to moderate snow conditions, too, provided they have enough tread. Don’t forget to make sure your tires are properly inflated, too. As the temperature drops, so does the tire pressure. Under-inflated tires can affect braking distance, steering, and handling.
Check Your Wiper Blades and Fluid Levels
Make sure your wiper blades can clear your windshield, and replace any blade that leaves streaks or misses spots. Fill-up the windshield washer reservoir with fluid that won’t freeze when the temperature drops. Don’t forget the engine coolant/antifreeze when checking fluid levels as well.
Pack Your Winter Gear, but Don’t Wear it While Driving
Make sure you have coats, scarves, gloves, boots, and hats with you, but keep them separate while driving. The bulky coats limit arm movements, gloves decrease sensing steering wheel feedback, and large boots can interfere with the pedals. For infants in child seats, those puffy winter coats can cause car seat restraints to not fit securely. Pack the winter gear close at hand, but save the layers for the outdoors.
Stock an Emergency Kit
Don’t leave home without a proper car emergency kit that includes some basic items like a first aid kit, snacks (for both humans and any pets), ice scraper with brush, basic tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrench), warning flares, cloths or paper towels, some drinking water, and an emergency blanket in case you find yourself stranded in some bad winter weather.
Give Your Car a Checkup
Before any major winter road trip, you should take your vehicle to a mechanic like Arizona Auto Repair & Towing for a thorough checkup of the brakes, drive belts, engine hoses, and all fluids (transmission, brake, and power steering).
Bring your car in for an inspection before you hit the road. At Arizona Auto Repair & Towing, we can spot and address potential issues with your vehicle and get you on your way safely. Call us at (724) 868-2886 to schedule an appointment or just stop on by.
