After an overnight and day rain delay upon the conclusion of the first set...
The most anticipated second-round action on what was supposed to be the Quarterfinal Friday continued between wild card Matteo Berrettini and Arthur Cazaux, where they were due to start the second set. While A. Cazaux took control of the first set thanks to his deep returns, where M. Berrettini's third-shot unforced errors resulted into the sole break of serve in the set, its consistency was tested as soon as the Italian found his range back.
M. Berrettini might have a slightly nervy start to the reset, double-faulting in the first point while erring his backhand afterward. However, he started to get his groove going and held his serves to 1-0, which became a significant hold as he started to go after A. Cazaux's groundstrokes, where a key slice placement equalized the point in the fourth point before foiling the latter's game point. It then was converted (2-0) due to A. Cazaux's rare backhand slice approach where he failed to follow up to as soon as M. Berrettini volleyed the way before his error. Despite conceding one point in the next game, M. Berrettini held his serves to 3-0.
Subsequently, it took a while for A. Cazaux to gain some rhythm as he also was 0-30 down while trying to get things going, held his service game to 3-1 at the end. Slightly after M. Berrettini strengthening the lead with a hold to 4-1, a question of his redirection ability started arising as A. Cazaux's forehand error to M. Berrettini's preceding pass resulted in the deuce. Eventually, another slice paved the way for the 2021 Wimbledon Men's Singles runner-up to his post-smash final volley, which doubled him the break to 5-1. He then earned an opportunity to serve for the first set, where one his set points was saved through a successful backhand pass from A. Cazaux to the open court right before another rain delay struck. An hour later, M. Berrettini eventually served it out, baking the second set breadstick (6-1) with an unreturned second serve, bringing the match to the deciding set 24 hours since it began.

Jesus that pass from Cazaux for the double break really sums up how this match has been going. Insane levels of play from him all match.
Makes total sense how he had a 5-1 record against Rune in juniors.
