wait actually thinking more about that follower gap post, what is the tasw universe btr fandom's feelings towards roxy? i guess we see a bit of it in the tour letters chapter, and hopefully more in big time contest? are they public at this point? is she, as a girl their age on the team, being shipped with any other member?

hi!! the answer to this is simultaneously simple and complicated. as usual i have a long answer for you!

in short: no, btr fandom doesn’t know more than she’s their touring guitarist and if they did some research they’d find her listed as the writer on many of their songs. james and roxy aren’t public and there’s a few reasons why! as far as the fandom is aware, she just works with the band. after carlos told her he loved her at that one show tho some people might think they’re cute together but more on that later

in long: ah! i’ve already tried to incorporate this in so many ways and i have not found a way i like quite yet. i’ve set many little things up - you are so right about the letters chapter! rox makes a comment about getting some boos when carlos kisses her because we all know what fandom typically does to women who date guys in boybands 😭 in roxy’s birthday chapter, she and james get stopped in santa monica and people start taking pictures of him and he throws his coat over her head and pulls her away from the pier because of some “media training” he said he got from gustavo. jo mentions the same thing happening to her while she was out with kendall before the pair were forcibly made public by her publicist (which is also briefly mentioned; skipped that ep bc i didn’t like the sneaker storyline sorry!) so there’s little crumbs im attempting to put in here and there i just can’t decide what to do with them. i thought about adding another section onto the minnesota chapter where roxy convinces her old boss to let her have her show again for a night where she can “interview” (read: fuck around with her boyfriend in the radio studio for four hours) james and he’d forget to turn his mic off before calling her babe or something and accidentally make their relationship public but 1) the chapter was already way too long and 2) like what do i do then. write an even longer chapter the next time around to fix what i wrote previously? i do not have the same time i used to when i started writing this to just get down like 20 pages a night LMAO. i loveeeee writing don’t get me wrong but it’s just hard for me currently and low interaction on original portions of the story are not very motivating. (but i’m not writing for the engagement don’t worry! it’s just a bonus!!!)

so yeah like it’s THERE it’s just not there.

besides. i want james and roxy to have a conversation about it too but i think he’s probably tweaking out about it bc of gustavo’s “training” and she would love to be public i just don’t think she understands what being in the spotlight really means and she doesn’t want to come off as too pushy because he hasn’t brought it up. neither of them really know what to expect from a public relationship with a public figure. but i mean. they’re out to their friends and stuff obviously! so maybe that might come back to bite them in the butt later idk. i have literally so many thoughts about this i promise itll be in there at some point i just don’t know when :)

i imagine at this point in time the band members each have like the lower end of a 60-100k follower count? i really have no basis for this though. i’ll have to give it some more thought!

YES UGH roxy just doesn't get it bc she has such a good relationship w her dad and mentioned way way back after she broke up with dak that she thought he was hiding their relationship (which he was... but she's just speculating) so she's just a teensy bit freaked out about james potentially doing the same thing. and it's totally like you said, she just doesn't understand quite yet. from what she knows about the diamond family, she sees james' dad as the problem, not his mom. she's in for a ride lol

roxy and kendall are like brother and sister to me; of course he knows how to get what he wants from her!! especially when joe jonas is involved... but yes!! they talk big hockey game in the show but we never really get to see it; so i wanted to highlight that just a little bit. go captain go! i really don't know anything about hockey irl but i do know that nicknames are a big thing at least in the american league! did my best. if you ask my friends im equally as terrible at nicknames in real life. and don't you worry roxy is definitely calling james pretty boy at some point in the future (she already did in the rockstar au!) but i'll have to find a way to work in the others. did anyone almost catch that kendall nearly told her logan's real name? hortense... 'tensie... oh god she's going to freak lmao...

:)))))))) even though they appear for so little in this chapter the hockey boys mean so much to me. if anyone reads my monthly book reviews... well... you know i love a good hockey romance! they're all themed quite similar - the giant, violent sports machine actually has a soft side... god i'm such a sucker for it! james really isn't like that, at least not in the way his friends are, but i gotta squeeze in some self-indulgence in here and there. i named most of the guys after characters from those books! hawkins comes from nate hawkins (icebreaker by hannah grace) ((i know! you can all boo me later)) callaghan comes from russ callaghan (wildfire by hannah grace) graham comes from garett graham (the deal by elle kennedy) miller comes from rory miller (the fake out by stephanie archer) logan (not that one) comes from john logan (the mistake by elle kennedy) and streicher comes from jamie streicher (behind the net by stephanie archer) PHEW!!!! we love a cameo

katie MASTERMIND strikes again... though if she just asked rox would've taken her anway!!! she was just embarrassed... it's hard for her to talk about her feelings when she's growing up with not one, but FOUR, overprotective older brothers! someone left a comment on my wattpad and said they really loved the roxy/katie interactions and i realized they had like. such little time together so i needed to fix that asap! i don't have an older sister, but i am one, so i tried to channel that energy into that scene hehe

eheheh it took me sooo long to come up with a name for the cat, it was originally einstein but we talked about hippocrates in one of my classes the day i edited the chapter and it just felt more fitting... here is the mister in the garden himself. thanks google!

and yess lord i love writing logan and roxy so so so much. out of all of them (even james!) she's most comfortable talking with him; i accidentally made them really similar personality wise and they just get along so well

are there any differences to roxy's characterization from when you first thought up of her vs now over one year on? excluding plot directed character growth (like her being more comfortable in her standing within the group vs earlier). is there anything particular that you wrote/made notes on in the earlier days where youre like that's not what she would say

what about other ocs like declan somerset and mag and dani? or even canon characters youve fleshed out more like camille, jo, dak zevon

hi!! yes yes yes there are so many things that have changed about her over the course of this story from when i conceptualized the idea, wrote it out, and began publishing it!

like you mentioned, rox becoming comfortable with the guys and her new friends has been the main thing, but aside from that she's now learning about good relationships, realizing that being with dak messed her up a bit and working through that

but enough about plot directed character growth! there were plenty of instances and scenes i had written in her early days (and even now lol) where i just had to completely chop conversations out and reword them because she used to be a lot more combative than she is now. less go with the btr flow and more... hey are we going to get fired?? but that's not fun at all - so she's mostly transformed to be an accomplice.

i'm not sure if this also counts, but outside of her writing she's not very good at processing her own feelings so there were a few instances in which other characters made her upset (camillle; james; dak) where i wrote out some scenes where she essentially exploded at them and reading it back it felt so so so wrong. she can hardly put to words her own feelings in conversation, so i changed those to scenes that i think fit her better

instead of blowing up at dak over his cheating she chose to distance herself from what was happening and end their "business relationship" before their real relationship (originally she threw a stapler at him. it was awesome. but she'd never really do that so i cut it out)

instead of screaming at camille for kissing the boy she likes, roxy stepped back and asked her why she had chosen to hurt logan, not why she'd kissed james (i stopped writing this one fully before it got ugly because it hurt me, but roxy had some choice words about breaking girl code)

instead of actually talking to james and working out their problems on tour, she's trying to figure out why he doesn't like her - if it was something she had done, not if there was anything she could say

so yeah. dubs for the emotionally stunted girls. damn maybe she should work on that idk

i haven't written dec or dani enough to have their original personalities shift from what i had originally imagined - declan is just a goofy teen dad trying to raise his daughter the best he can. while he's just trying to be there for her, sometimes he's gotta put the father foot down too! dani is just kind of catty and they typically follow mag's lead on things.

as for mag, i originally wrote a scene where rox bumped into him at the grocery store when they got kicked off rocque records. he was a lot meaner than i wanted him to be, so i just kicked the scene entirely. but you can read it here if you want! in my head he's a lot more of a nicer on the outside kinda guy, like in the Morning Glory chapter. what he says is sweet, but his words have bad undertones and he's very good at getting what he wants. more of this in the future~

i think i do pretty well at writing the canon characters in line with how they act in the show... except for james.... god. literally every time i write him i think im doing it wrong and it bothers me so much lmao. like yes he's silly he's goofy he always wants to make out with his girlfriend (not that she's complaining) but he simply would not be like. the perfect boyfriend. but this is my story and i want him to be so he is!!!!!!!!!!!! so yeah sometimes i'll write him and rox talking and just have to completely delete what he says because he's not that brilliant and make him say something stupid instead lol

so tl;dr! yes all the freaking time. all. the. time. but that's what makes writing fun! it's like a puzzle, placing everyone's distinct personalities together and putting them in situations to see how they'd react. i think all of them get along really well, even when they butt heads :) but sometimes whats in the drafts has gotta stay in the drafts

now that the rames slowburn plotline is officially "resolved" (like theyre officially together now) are there any other multichapter/ "season" long plotlines youre excited to work on or we should look out for?

plotlines to look out for:

- jo’s departure/lucy’s arrival/staying at the palm woods

- an original chapter before (or original end to the season 2 finale? haven’t decided yet) leading into the big time movie/likely another original chapter similar to the one full of roxy’s letters home

- not multi chaptered but prom!!!

- big time surprise/big time decision 👀

- season four? i have no idea. it’s my least favorite season and i’m already planning some original chapters and scenes to wedge in songs i love that aren’t in the show. my goal is to turn it into something i enjoy that doesn’t erase the characters’ development from the previous four seasons!

- and of course, things i can’t revel just yet! but you’ll know when they happen <3

just writing this out is making me want to write some things down so i don’t forget hehe! there was a stark drop in readership once james and roxy became official so i suppose some people were only in it for the slow burn (which is totally cool!!! i understand as a fellow slowburn lover) but hopefully this’ll keep y’all interested and excited for the future :))))

i've never seen andi mack, so unfortunately not! but i just read the synopsis of the show and wow it sounds wild. hopefully whoever went on a date in andi mack didn't get cheated on and find out on national television. dak not looking back was more symbolic of not giving a care that the date was over - he didn't even wait for her to step into her apartment before he left and didn't even give her like a smile and wave goodbye! i reference a bunch of tv shows though, scooby doo a few times, supernatural once i think, teen wolf, sabrina the teenage witch during taswtober and one off-hand monkees mention just off the top of my head!

injured bird was just vibes! i needed a reason for the boys to be in the street and i feel like carlos and logan specifically are the type to want to care for an injured animal, so i figured that was the best way to go :) i plan to write two or three more parts for the au and we'll see how the bird is doing in each one <3

logan!!! sweet boy... one of my favorite scenes is the one where he's experimenting his love science on roxy when they get back from tour. and the planetarium! definitely! i just think he's the sweetest and love to take him out of the canon and write my own little scenes with him!

ive been thinking about this for a while now, but why did dak zevon even pursue roxy? what was his goal? did he even like her or is he just a serial dater who needs to be liked at all times?? (maybe its clear and i just missed it lol)

hello! thank you for your question - i'm happy to clarify!! under the cut <3

the pg answer is yes, he's a serial dater! he thought she was pretty, he could tell she was a fan of his, and he wanted to have her around to boost up his ego while he went on "real" dates with other movie stars. i also imagine because of these tendencies he's dated many people his age in the business and he's bolstered up a reputation for being a two-timer, so he also knew because she was new to the area she wouldn't have had the time to discover that yet. it bugged him when she spent time hanging around the guys because she was giving them her attention, not him! (and i wanted there to be some jealous interactions with james....) he liked her enough to keep her around, but not enough to consider actually being with her until she brought it up in chapter 14. why did he agree? see the paragraph below lmao

the not so pg answer, which isn't as clear just from the text, or maybe not to anyone but me lol, is that he wanted to sleep with her. in chapter 13 he came over to her apartment because he knew she lived alone, pretty much toppled over her on her couch while they were kissing, then borderline erupted at her when the guys came running in for a) ruining the moment and b) learning she was spending so much time around them. there's a part where he begins to ask her something at the same time she begins to say something to him - he just lets her go first. he was going to ask if it was alright if he spent the night, but i didn't make that clear! i left it intentionally vague on purpose, so i apologize if it was confusing! the only real hint about it was camille making a comment about him 'spending the night alone together.' and in chapter 14 after they break up, he also makes a comment about hearing somewhere that 'minnesota girls were easy' as in... easy to get into bed. i think that's the only clear instance i made in allusion to this answer

they're all just teenagers and i felt uncomfortable making that non-pg answer abundantly clear because the rating on the fic is teen and also i'm an adult who personally doesn't feel comfortable writing scenes of that matter with minors. thinking back i should have just left it out; i just thought it was dramatic at the time and wanted logan to really have a reason to punch him in the face. sorry! i understand how that might not have been clear. we kind of lose the motivations of other characters by having the fic fully centered around roxy, and i recognize that.

i appreciate the question and i'm happy to clarify more if needed :) i've got quite the world built up in my head and i understand why other characters make their choices, but recognize it may be hard to see from the outside <3

SUCH A GOOD QUESTION AHH! thank you! - as per usual i have a very long answer and i don't really know ship names so bear with me and find it under the cut

from the show:

its so hard for me to put my feelings about this into words because i enjoy most ships coming out of the show both canon and noncanon but i wish there was more of a space for the canon relationships to be developed. like i love jo i think she's great but her only personality traits are acting and kendall's girlfriend, you know?

if i had to pick fav canon ships, i think logan and camille are so funny and despite a few bumps in their relationship they really are made for each other. something about the nerdy guy and his batshit girlfriend get me every single time across most pieces of media.

as for non canon ships... i have many favorites... james and kendall COME ON like. come on. you all know what i mean. come on. i'm not sure if carlos and stephanie counts as non canon but i thought the dance episode in the first season was super cute and i wish they kept her around to develop that relationship more. out of all four boys i think carlos is like. made of boyfriend material and it's shocking to me they play him up to be the most inexperienced romance wise. maybe it's because my himbo opinions lean more into the predominant thought process of this decade than the last but. i love carlos and stephanie! i also remember the first time i watched the show, being a bit surprised they didn't have any relationships for mrs. knight after making a big deal about it in the first season. she and buddha bob had potential i think. can't explain it. james and jett also. hm. hear me out yall. they give catty gay couple on a reality tv show that everybody loves. if jett wasn't so busy trying to bag jo he'd see his perfect match was right there all along...

least favorite canon - james and lucy. i don't know if this is a popular opinion and i do believe that the two had potential if their story had been written differently. but james' borderline obsession with her was creepy and i don't think she'd stop her tour and fly all the way back to america to be with him. if there had been more time to develop their relationship... maybe. but how i interpret lucy's character tells me she wouldn't be all that into him and that her career is more important to her than some guy. and this is not because i love james diamond btw bc i love lucy stone far more! she's to good for all of the boys

least favorite non canon... i'm not sure. i haven't really seen anything that i didn't like while perusing the btr ao3 tag. are there any gustavo and kelly shippers? i'm not sure i'd be on board with that just because gustavo doesn't always treat her very well but otherwise i can't think of any at the moment

jokes aside, most of my opinions about ships from the show carry over into the story. i like logan and camille very, very much, i think jo and kendall are cute, i will bring stephanie back eventually once i plot my chapters better

i'm in big debate with myself over some relationship things that could happen in the future, so i don't want to spill and spoil. i feel like dr strange in endgame when he's looking through all the timelines to find the perfect one and i am struggling very, very hard to come to conclusions.

if james and roxy weren't together, i think she and lucy would have a pretty good shot at forming a romantic relationship. they have similar interests for one, i see them writing music together all the time and generally enjoying each other's company. punk rock gf and pop punk gf for the win! she and logan also probably, if camille weren't so madly in love with him

@selangkir wrote an amazing au of tasw in which big time rush was a girlband and james and roxy swapped duties! their characterization of james and dak zevon cut me to the core. they might be my favorite non canon even if they break my heart hehe

honestly the more i think about it the more i think roxy could be happy with everyone LMAO as long as she's in the ship its my favorite bc she's my special perfect girl :)

oh my friend this is such a kind message thank you so much. i've got no issue answering questions about this whole thing; i'm trying to be as transparent as possible while everything goes down.

a trait i gave roxy i wish i had myself: dedication

my girl is soooo much better than me in many ways, namely being able to fully dedicate herself to her music and not giving up in the face of adversity. we know that hollywood has been her dream for quite some time, she tried to make it with a different band, didn't work, she tried to make it for herself as a songwriter at the audition in the first chapter and that didn't go the way she planned... i am such a plan person and if im not good at something the very first time i do it or something doesn't go like i anticipated i struggle very hard to keep myself in that task. that being said, i do not have a musical bone in my body. throughout my life i have tried many a time to play an instrument and i just CANNOT - no matter how much music i listen to or love! her dedication to keep at guitar for more than a decade, continue writing songs where gustavo is giving her input and helping her change the lyrics to better fit the band/narritive shes going for, dealing with the band's wacky plans... yeah i wouldn't survive a day in hollywood. roxy is far stronger than i!

(yes i write the lyrics in the story incorrectly on purpose sometimes!! i always wonder if yall know that or if you think i have just been singing the wrong words to btr songs for years)

this one is a bit situation specific because she is able to advocate for herself when it comes to her career. she's very specific about what she wants, the help she needs from gustavo when writing songs, and the way in which she goes about helping her band... on the other hand... her personal life... girl!! she kind of left james to his own devices when it came to the beginnings of her relationship because she was scared if she made a move it would end up similarly to how it ended with mag and she was pretty fresh out of her thing with dak who had also treated her very poorly. not that experience makes me better than her or anyone in a situation like that, but by the time i was her age i had been in a few relationships and i had a better understanding of how i was willing to be treated by the other person. i. e. i would not have dak zevon treat me like that and i would not have let james' will-they-won't-they thing linger on for as long as it did, i would have been far more confrontational about it based on the standards i had set for myself. roxy just simply has not given this the same amount of thought i did at that age - she has far more important things to do than i did at sixteen/seventeen. would've saved my girl a lot of heartache, but it wouldn't have been a slow burn and i am a SUCKER for a slow burn. sorry for doing that to you miss roxy!

imo i feel like even tho the series is based on a musical group, theres not much music based storylines? so its rly fun to read more of the music side of things with roxy <3

RAHHHHH THANK YOU FOR ASKING... i spend a lot of time thinking about roxy's musical interest but i don't spend much about the rest of the cast aside from a few offhanded mentions here and there. this was a challenge to put together but it was so fun! <3

the main thing i want to mention before i dive into oc music taste is the presence of music surrounding my story! every chapter title, song mentioned, musical influence etc i'm trying to keep within the timeframe + past in which the story takes place. as someone who was not really aware of popular radio in 2009, this is a very fun challenge for me.

what type of music does your oc like? Like you said, her music taste is pretty clearly defined! She's into just a bit of everything, though prefers pop and rock music above all else. Since she worked at a radio station, she was lucky enough to have access to all sorts of music, and when the station went digital, the owner let her keep all of the ancient cassette tapes they used to store everything on! Through combing through these albums from across many generations, she's been able to cultivate what she's into on her own, though her biggest musical influence is definitely her dad! If he wasn't into punk/rock she wouldn't be either. do they listen to music very often? Yes! I don't show this too often in my fic, but I think she listens to music a lot because she prefers it to silence - especially when she's alone in her apartment. What she listens to depends on her mood, and she has a bunch of different mix tapes she's made/she's found to match. So one of those could be on, one of her favorite albums could be on, or she could just pull her iPod out and put that little thing on shuffle to let the machine decide... 2. Declan Somerset

what type of music does your oc like? Declan is a rock/punk/metal kinda guy but specifically the sub-genre of these types of music that culminate into local gigs at shit dive bars and basement shows. As a youngin he stumbled into a basement show with some of his friends (soon to be bandmates) and just loved the atmosphere so much he roped his friends into making their own band so they could be active participants in their community. He's the kinda guy to be like "oh, yeah, i like this band, they're super underground idk if you know them" but like... he's right. No one else in Minnesota is listening to Rainbow Sludge Baby Guts Explosion or Sexy Fishing Rod Brigade or whatever that band he saw last night was called. For him, it's not so much about the actual music, but the community surrounding it, but he would love to hit the stage and shred again if someone let him! do they listen to music very often? When Roxy was home, he would listen to whatever she had on! Her music listening habits didn't change from Minnesota to California, so whatever she put on was just background to him. Now that she's gone, he finds the house is a lot more quiet than it used to be. The only time he really finds himself listening to music is if he's at a show or if he's playing it himself. musical things this character has mentioned/is observed liking: - Nothing concrete yet! 3. Carlos

what type of music does your oc like? Very briefly mentioned in chapter 18 but Carlos is a big fan of Latin music, show tunes, and hip hop! I imagine growing up in a household with three generations of Hispanic individuals really helped cultivate his taste in this way. I personally do not know much about Latin music, show tunes, or hip hop music, but I imagined while they were on the plane he had Roxy listen to a lot of Selena because he though she specifically would like her music a lot. Homie was bumping El Chico Del Apartemento 512 so hard trying to get her to vibe with it while she was like half conscious and trying to not get sick lmaoo. As for hip hop, I think that was something he discovered for himself once he entered high school. Artists like Jay-Z, Eminem, 50 Cent amaze him with how they're able to get their point across and he likes to try and learn the words as a challenge (though he is not very good at it) and he also likes to make up his own dances. It's also good hockey hype music, he likes to listen to it before games. And show tunes... I truly know nothing about musicals so I cannot speak to specifics but he likes them because (in my unposted james POV chapter which will come out eventually) he used to try out for school musicals a lot. He likes the flare and the dramatics! do they listen to music very often? what type of music does your oc like? </3 His ass is so boring his only taste in music is what's on the radio. Though... his performance of Girl 2 My Heart in the first ep of the show makes me believe he actually liked some of the 90s boy band stuff! There is hope yet. Also, not in the story, but I think after his and Roxy's little scene in the fourth chapter he listened to some Oasis and was like "what the fuck. no." Too jock to rock... Tragic... But his issue before BTR was that he liked music but never found anything he liked enough. do they listen to music very often? Only at work, only when he's learning a song, only when he's trying to snoop on whatever Roxy's writing. 5. Logan

what type of music does your oc like? Oh my GOD Logan is so into rap music it isn't even funny. Everything about it is just so exciting to him! The technical composition of the beat, the eloquence of the lyrics and how they're strung perfectly together, the performance of it all, the messages... It's like a big equation to him, and he loves it! He and Carlos often bond over this, because rap is a sub-genre of hip hop if I'm not mistaken. Artists like 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, DMX... We see the vision hopefully and I apologize for not being more knowledgeable in the rap/hip hop genre to provide more than common generalizations. He also really likes instrumental music! As we saw in chapter 16, he also enjoys being in a room in which Roxy is playing either the guitar or the piano! do they listen to music very often? Yes... This man is somehow able to study and listen to music at the same time, so he'll hit his playlist and hit the books. AKA he's listening to it a lot when he's alone. And as previously mentioned, he'll also seek out Roxy to play him some instrumental tracks too. It's good for him, no silence when he studies, and good for her, she gets to practice. 6. James

what type of music does your oc like? Oh, James... In the same vein as Kendall, he likes whatever's on the radio, but simply because that is what's popular and he himself is popular. So pop music, for sure, is his favorite genre and it's easily accessible through the radio or his phone or whatever so he's always keeping up with the latest! In addition, however, I think he really likes R&B and soul-type music as well as a by-product of living with his mother. There's a reason he chose a Smokey Robinson song to sing at his audition and not something on popular radio, right? Part of it is because he has a really smooth voice that flows right along into the R&B/Soul type genre, but also I'd say it's mostly his mom's influence. Her son should know the "classics!" Also like previously mentioned, he's big into show tunes! It's mentioned a bit in chapter 19 hehe. He's very good at convincing Carlos to try out for school musicals with him, so they practiced a bunch together after school hockey practice <3 And of course... He likes whatever Roxy plays... And wishes she'd play for him the same way she does for Logan... do they listen to music very often? I'd say his music listening is moderate... Not as much as Roxy and Logan but far more than Kendall! In Minnesota, his mom would play her music bc she's so controlling lol... So whenever he was on the way to school/friends' houses/dates/whatever he'd pop on the radio to catch up with the latest and the greatest. what type of music does your oc like? Two words: Boy bands. It's as simple as that! I'd also say this blends into mentions of popular music, but if she has a choice she's putting Backstreet on no QUESTION. That and movie soundtracks, I'd say, but only for the cheesy supernatural romances she likes. I know she's bumping the Twilight soundtrack near daily (as she damn well should be). Also, I know she's from North Carolina but she doesn't really feel like a country girl to me... idk Being friends with Roxy and dating Kendall is like her perfect musical dream. do they listen to music very often? Yes! Like Roxy, Jo doesn't really like silence. I imagine she listens to music most when she's running lines and trying to flesh out the characters she's trying out for. Once again: listening to the Twilight soundtrack while running lines for New Town High... God I love her. I'm not going to lie to yall i've literally thought about this for hours and I just have no idea. in the show i know she was in their camp rock spoof, so maybe show tunes? but thinking about her sitting down and listening to like... Hello, Dolly! just doesn't feel like her. my best response is that she absorbs her music taste through her friends like osmosis. Jo and Roxy like boy bands? Great, now Camille does too! Logan is rocking out to Beastie Boys? Camille is excited to be a part of it. I also know that very briefly she mentions knowing how to figure skate, so maybe even like classical music? but that feels far too mellow for her... She likes Big Time Rush and that's enough for me to say she at the least enjoys pop music. What do we think gang?? do they listen to music very often? At the beginning of chapter 16 I thought you were actually gonna do something to her dad, but I'm glad it was only Hollywood Fever! And im loving the snippets of James and Roxy (Rames? Joxy?) you're sprinkling through the fic, makes it actually feel like somethings gonna happen.

declan somerset, born january 2nd, 1974 is 35 years old

he is the forman of the largest copper mine in minnesota

like his daughter, he is an only child

originally from austin, texas, he moved to duluth, minnesota when he was 18

his mother taught him how to play the guitar when he was quite young, but ultimately ended up regretting it when later on down the line her son expressed his want to be in a band instead of finding a more steady and stable profession

due to that, they don't talk anymore, especially because she was right and he ended up finding a "normal" job

he has never once regretted teaching roxy how to play the guitar :)

he is the biggest influence on roxy's music taste - he taught her everything he knew about the minnesota rock/punk scene and it confuses him that he ended up raising (for all intents and purposes) a prep

it kills him to be so far away from his daughter, but he's doing his best to support her from across the country!

thank you for being interested in dak and roxy i was so scared people would stop reading after i introduced that little plot line! all i've gotta say is... roxy writes based off life experience or scenarios she creates in her head... so... yeah... hahahaha

i did not originally intend to show roxy's pool date with jo and camille but i will write it tomorrow after i get off work and post it asap! i've been writing the season one finale for literal weeks at this point and i'm starting to go crazy over it so itll be nice to get into a different little one shot for a bit. i'll post it in a reblog of this question so we can all find it :)

right now i will give you a little sneak peek about how EVERYONE feels about the roxy-dak mess because i'm generous like that, and i don't really get to show everyones feelings on it in the story bc we only get inside her head... there's a bit in chapter 13 where we see a little bit of how the guys feel about it, but i didn't want to make it a whole thing and then it kinda turned into a whole thing 🤷‍♀️

anyway: how my characters view love and roxy's relationship through some cannon events and my own personal beliefs

jo: takes absolutely no shit when it comes to love, we see this when kendall has his thing with lucy... she grew up listening to boy bands and has a standard for how men should treat her <3 plus i think she's been in one non-serious "we went on a few dates so i guess he's my boyfriend" relationship from back home so she has a little experience. she thinks dak isn't worth any more of her time after he stood her up but she is afraid to voice this to her bestie...

camille: is a hopeless romantic and would go nearly to the ends of the earth for the ones she loves. she's a "if it's meant to be, it's meant to be" kinda gal and at age 16 fully believes logan is the love of her life. i think he's her first partner! she wants roxy to be as in love as she is and thinks that, while shitty, the whole standing her up thing is just a bump in the road on their way to everlasting love

carlos: pre-established to have never been in a relationship but he's like a silly jock so i'm sure he's been on at least a few dates! he has older sisters in my story (because he feels like he was written by a woman (me. i'm that woman.)) so you know he knows the proper way to show a date a good time! he thought roxy looked so pretty on her first date and he just wants her to have a good time and be happy. if dak makes her happy, he's happy! and he was actually kind of okay with the stand up thing because they got to hang out and dance together <3

kendall: captain (?? i don't think i made this up... this is in the show right?) of the hockey team in a midwestern high school. he's had a few partners and i know his mother whooped his ass (metaphorically) into shape after she found out he goofed around too hard and hurt someone he went out with on accident... as for the roxy and dak affair, he may or may not have picked up on the fact one of his good buddies may or may not like her... he's not a fan but will not say anything bc he isn't in the business of telling her what to do (she will hit him with her songbook very hard)

logan: while a believer in his love science, he's yet to find a way to quantify how he feels about camille after the party in chapter 10 :) he dated a bit his first few years in high school (mostly double dates with james? i also think is a fact from the show), and has had a few non-serious partners but he's never felt this way about anyone else! in his love science-y world, he can tell that dak does not feel the same way about roxy as she feels about him. if he did, he would've come to the party. simple love science!

james: good lord! he has dated anyone who is someone at mountain aire high school and it's always been to elevate or retain his own social status. so when he's normally a flirt for fun, or because it makes his boring little small town feel less boring, it's always been a game to him. except somewhere along the way of flirting out of habit with his new friend, he might have started to actually mean some of the things he's said. he thinks dak's a douche for standing her up and he's trying to make that clear to her the only way he knows how: vague hints and comments here and there. another established james fact is he's never been dumped, so i imagine this brings up a little bit of fear of rejection in him as well. he has trouble voicing his own feelings as well, since he's always trying to come across as perfect.
