thinking about if jet star had been the only survivor after the raid on bli. jet star who had known a life without his crew before, who had grown up in the desert and knew how to survive alone, who had no doubt he could do it again, if only because he was the only one the girl had left. jet star who tells himself this over and over again as the hours following the mission stretch into days stretch into weeks stretch into endless spells of night and day. jet star who tries to be strong for her and can’t shake off the guilt and shame of resenting the rest of them for dying and leaving him because there’s no fate worse than being the sole survivor. jet star who doesn’t ever tell any of this to the girl and instead lulls her to sleep with stories of them so neither of them forget. jet star who doesn’t realize at first how godawful it is to have no one left because the girl is only just a girl and as much as he loves her she can’t replace what he’s lost, because at the end of the day she still gets to be a child that survived and he has to hold whatever’s left of her world up so the shambles don’t come crashing down. jet star being glad that by some sick twist of fate he was the one that managed to escape with his life because despite everything he wouldn’t have wished his fate on any of them. jet star being the only fucking one left.

i’m honestly relieved that the general consensus re: the killjoys show is overwhelmingly absolutely the fuck not. killjoys is amazing because there’s practically no canon, and whatever little canon we have constantly contradicts itself. we know nothing about these characters themselves because the main focus was always plot and vibes. the only confirmed canon we have about any of the fabulous four is that they died and i wouldn’t have it any other way! it makes room for thousands of stories within a story within a concept, and there’s literally no wrong way to enjoy killjoys whether you read the comics or listened to the album or watched the music videos. it’s a wonderful queer paradoxical little story and that’s why it’s so good.

you know what actually. jet star wouldn’t use labels. desertborn resident sandpup jet star would not use labels. he doesn’t understand them. to people like party and ghoul, labels are important, and for their sake jet tries to understand why. he thinks maybe after all those years in the city and on the pills, living under bli’s thumb, they need to take back whatever parts of themselves they can. maybe that’s their way of reclaiming and reinventing themselves fully. after all, he grew up watching the endless streams of runaways trickling out from the city. he knows by this time that there is no greater joy for a debut album than relishing in the discovery of themselves- and this, the act of creation, is often their first act of rebellion. for them, knowing what you are and owning it is rebellion unto itself, and people like party and ghoul are no different. but jet star doesn’t need a label to know himself, and he doesn’t think he ever will. he doesn’t conform to any box or binary. he knows himself- he always has, no matter how much it changes- and that’s enough for him. he is “queer as in fuck you” incarnate.

idk despite what people say i find it weirdly comforting that even though the black parade is supposed to be dead they're reviving it for wwwy. not in a "romanticize the past and try to resurrect a version of yourself that's honestly much better off staying dead" way but in a mikey way. like how he replied to that comment on his instagram post- "sometimes they come back"- because that's exactly it. yeah, the black parade may have been dead, but sometimes they come back. these things are like that. they're ferocious and fucked up and cathartic and downright unapologetic and when they die they burn down in a blaze of glory and a burst of flames and you mourn them, of course, but you come to accept it and understand that it's for the better. and even then, after everything, sometimes they come back.
