So hey, regarding your Shin fic

Hear me out, what if reader was into Caleb/ Xiao yizhu from Love and Deepspace ? How much psychic damage do you think Shin would sustain?

I actually did write an ask about tumblrina being a lads enjoyer, but this is in the context that she is playing the game when she's trying to get over shin. it's a million times funnier if she does it AROUND shin. I think he is probably used to wild pseudocest storylines from all the fanfic that she reads, but that specific game stresses him out because the sibling relationship is like a direct parallel to her and gaku. 2 years apart, older brother, younger sister, orphans who were raised together, both experimented on, very nonexistent physical boundaries that would raise eyebrows for anyone normal. I think it literally haunts him in his sleep AFLDJALFJSLFSHS

I'm not much of a gamer sadly so my list is hsr, genshin, devil may cry, and tetris 😔

So I read your Art of the bedchamber Dan Heng fanfic sometime ago and I saw a mention of demonic cultivation

May I ask what that is? Because I have only seen it once in a Chinese show called The Untamed but I don't quite understand what it is

HIII haha omg hi fellow cql fan!!!! this is somewhat hard to explain but I'll try my best lol. regular cultivation (修仙), which is done via orthodox/righteous means, will allow one to achieve martial prowess and spiritual power via refining their own qi and committing acts that will contribute to balance within themself and the environment around them. so most cultivators in the untamed practice regular cultivation. this is the most safe way to achieve immortality (as it is a balanced cultivation of qi) but it is also extremely difficult; longevity is usually the result.

on the other hand, demonic cultivation (often called 魔道, "the demonic/devil path") allows the practitioner to achieve power via methods that actively harm others and go against the natural order of things. it varies between stories/legends what demonic cultivation looks like; a lot of older stories feature monsters that try to achieve immortality via consuming holy men, and many contemporary stories focus on human cultivators who kill or sacrifice people to gain power, for instance. in the untamed, wei wuxian uses the resentment of the dead in order to achieve power (although not actively killing people, it is obviously still against the natural order as it is it harnessing vengeful spirits rather than suppressing or exorcising them).

often demonic cultivation is bad for the practitioner, if not because it'll encourage qi deviation and it will literally lead to them dying lol, then because they are committing acts of tremendous evil. this is why the mc in art of the bedchamber commented that if they were to practice demonic cultivation, then they could possibly achieve immortality, but dan heng "would not like the thing they would become by the end of it".

Hey I probably sent this ask before, but I wanna send it again

I have read your Zero Sum game and Translation fic and I found the way you write the mc and Aventurine + their relationship to be interesting. I was like " wow, okay I like these two together but they're gonna need a lot of therapy if they decide to stay together 😆"

I'd like to know what was your thought process behind writing their dynamic? Because it seems that they are two severely traumatized people who got together

hi there - yes you did send this ask before, sorry I haven't gotten the chance to answer it yet! I can be a little (a lot) slow with answering asks unfortunately :') (irl + writing are very time consuming, plus my inbox has been scary lately lol)

I put my whole writerussy into that fic so I am very happy you enjoyed it LOL. you are indeed correct that aventurine and mc are two deeply traumatized people who got together - I actually wrote an afterword that touches on the specific theme of their trauma response. self-objectification & the fucked up power dynamics of their relationship are a direct consequence of their trauma as having been trafficked (and abused) as commodities. they don't know how else to view themselves and each other, so that is the shape that their relationship has taken - and their relationship allows them to find agency and experience a kind of intimacy despite this trauma. you can read that afterword if you are interested in dissecting that specific dynamic a little more!

but in general I love exploring cycles of abuse and trauma. I love writing about the ways in which people are distorted by extreme trauma, and how they can survive and love each other despite it (and often they love each other in wrong ways in my fics, but it is always a kind of love nevertheless). I particularly love writing aventurine because he is a character who has been deeply traumatized (in specific ways I relate to), but survives despite it. and in canon, he does struggle with loving himself because of that trauma, but in my fics I like to explore ways he can find love despite that (even if it involves some self-inflicted gaslighting and manipulation on his end HAHAHA)
