Hi Naff, I absolutely love your work. The world building and charisma of the characters is honestly breathtaking to read. If you have the time, I would like to ask you what kind of relationship Vigilant!Y/N had with the Afton children? We know later that Michael felt secure enough in their connection to ask them to leave with him but how were they before? I kind of see Vigilant!Y/N as not being that much older than Michael, maybe a 5yr difference, so were they jealous of the other's perceived relationship with William? Michael seeing that his father prefers V!Y/N company and the two never being that far apart, while V!Y/N being jealous that William actually treating his children as just kids, there were hints that he didn't have them that involved with the mafia and were even somewhat coddled. Did Lizzy and Evan see them as an older sibling or just another of their father's lackeys? Sorry for the long ask I'm just so invested in this family drama.

You know, I have a few scenes written that didn't make it into the final cut of Sleuth Jesters, but you're asking all the right questions!

When they first meet, Y/N hates Michael, simply because he is Afton's child and gets to be a child, not reared to be a runner for his gang (and has Afton's affection automatically). Michael likes Y/N right off the bat because "they're tough".

Jealousy lingers as they get older. Y/N doesn't show it, but they always felt held at arm's length while Afton wholly embraced his children, protected them, and kept them away from the blood and violence, for the most part. Despite gaining his utmost trust and being tasked with his most important assignments, as well as often following him wherever he goes, Y/N knew it wasn't the same as actually having his parental love.

On the other end, Michael was growing angry at his father's distance and his illegal business. Michael and William often had arguments about the gang and William would mercilessly compare Michael to Y/N. Y/N is obedient. Y/N never questions him. If Michael was more like Y/N, William would have brought him in a long time ago, but until he understands, he's not going to let Michael be involved. It's safer that way, regardless.

Y/N never meets Evan, at least, not while he's conscious. He's in a coma before Y/N joins the gang.

Y/N is like an older sibling to Elizabeth. Elizabeth was kept away from the mafia but when William had Vanessa and Y/N follow him home to act as his protection or to plot something new, Y/N would play dolls or listen to Elizabeth talk about a new dress her daddy promised her! Needless to say, Elizabeth really admires Y/N. Elizabeth was obvious to a lot of what was going on as well.

It's when Elizabeth is killed by one of William's projects that he created while studying remnant that Michael's and Y/N's dynamic shifts. Michael goes to them for the first time, furious and grieving, and Y/N lets him in so they can talk about missing Elizabeth together, and how foolish his father is. Then Y/N dares to express some of their hatred, hatred for the city, for Vanessa, for how difficult it is to survive under Afton's rule.

After that, the two are thick as thieves. They trust each other.
