OK, as an Indian person and ESPECIALLY as a Scottish person I have to say this.
The current Palestinian Genocide (let's call a spade a spade) and lack of response is an unambiguously, direct result of British Colonialism.
Palestine was given/promised/whatever word you want to use to describe it to Israel by the British Empire to whom it "belonged" as a colony.
Everything that happened thereafter, the Nakba, every invasion, every injustice is a result of that colonial attitude from which Israel was born.
Everywhere the British Empire has been it has sewn chaos and promoted the abuse of human rights as it left. It has happened in India, it happened in Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon and Australia.
The reason for such a lax UK governmental response is because if they acknowledge what's going on is fucked they have to take responsibility for so much more. By leaving these countries originally the UK has "washed their hands of it."
I want to make this extremely clear.
Britain's hands will NEVER be clean
The British Empire has committed the greatest atrocities known to mankind and the British Government does not want to acknowledge that.
Israel has been built from these imperial attitudes, has repeatedly and continually committed war crimes and human rights abuses and governments just... don't care
It's actually insane and we need to recognise the root of these humanitarian calamities and hold our government accountable.
Write to your MPs, your MSPs, your MSs make your voice heard in whatever way that you can! Your voice may seem weak but it is so incredibly powerful if enough people speak up, if enough people make sure that the government never forgets about these things we can make REAL CHANGE. The link below will allow for you to find your government representative be that N.Ireland Assembly Scottish, Welsh or UK Parliament as well as their emails.
https://www.theyworkforyou.com/
Tell them how horrible things are in Gaza, tell them about Israel's repeated and continuous mistreatment of the Palestinian people, tell them how the UK cannot continue to plug our ears and ignore the fallout of our past. Just say something!

Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, the speaker of the local assembly in northwest Niger State, planned to support the marriage of the orphans, who have all lost relatives to attacks on villages by heavily armed gangs.
Sarkindaji said he was simply helping his constituents, but the minister of women affairs and other officials have denounced the proposal.
They have expressed concern that some of the orphans might be underage or being forced to comply for financial gain.
Mass weddings are not uncommon in Nigeria, especially in the mostly Muslim north, where they are seen as a way to help impoverished families manage their expenses.
But underage marriage also happens in rural areas where communities struggle with poverty, insecurity and little access to education.
'Totally unacceptable'
Sarkindaji, a member of the ruling All Progressive Congress party, pledged last week to help families in the mass wedding later this month.
But on Tuesday, federal Women Affairs Minister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye called for an investigation into their ages, their consent to marriage and the identity of their potential partners.
"This is totally unacceptable," she told journalists.
"I have written a petition to the police... and I have filed a case for an injunction to stop him from whatever he is planning to do."
A senior special assistant to the presidency on community engagement has also objected.
Abiodun Essiet called on state officials to bring the women into empowerment programmes -- especially as it was believed some of them may be children.
"I am not against conducting marriage for orphans above 18 years of age if they give their consent to the marriage," she wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
"But I am against underaged marriage. Let children be children."
No details were immediately available on the ages of the orphans.
'Good faith'
Soon after the minister's remarks, the Niger assembly speaker told reporters he was withdrawing his support for the mass wedding and would let the families decide.
"The marriage for those orphans is withdrawn," he told reporters on Tuesday. "I did it in good faith."
But he was critical of the minister, saying she was "not from the north" of Nigeria.
He did not feel threatened by her action as he was just a "good samaritan", he added. "The minister should please find out who I am,... and how I have been supportive to my people."
His position drew support from the state's imams organisation and other Muslim groups. Accusing the minister of overstepping her position, they called for her suspension.
"We believe she made these pronouncements based on her position as a non-Muslim," Mahmud Lawal Murshid, Niger state President of Muslim Student Society, said in a statement.
"If she were a Muslim she wouldn't have said what she said."
Tough economic conditions
In January a Muktar Aliyu Betara, a Nigerian lawmaker from Borno state, sponsored a mass wedding for 180 girls from his constituency.
Aged between 17 and 18, they had lost their parents to jihadist violence.
Betara paid for all the wedding expenses as the families of the brides could not afford the expenses.
Last year, Nigeria's northwest Kano State financed and staged a mass wedding for 1,800 couples as part of efforts to help the poorest residents get married.
The initiatives came as Nigeria faces tough economic conditions.
High fuel prices and rising food inflation are driving some Nigerians, many who live on less than $2 a day, further into poverty in Africa's most populous country.

Yoruba gods protect Fidel Castro: priest
By Reuters
January 21, 20083:31 PM ESTUpdated 17 years ago
HAVANA (Reuters) - Yoruba gods protect ailing Fidel Castro from witchcraft and want to see him continue leading Cuba, the first priest of the Santeria religion to be elected to parliament said on Monday.
"Olodumare says he is the one that should be there and so he is untouchable," said Antonio Castaneda, a babalawo (priest) in the religion slaves brought to colonial Cuba from Nigeria.
Hurricanes may batter Cuba this year, but Castro's health will not break, according to the orishas (deities), he said.
Tumblr media
The 614-seat National Assembly elected on Sunday must approve Cuba's top leadership at its first session on February 24, when Cubans will learn whether Castro will retire as head of state.
Castro, 81, has not appeared in public since stomach surgery for an undisclosed illness forced him to hand over power temporarily to his brother almost 18 month ago.
Santeria followers have believed their gods were on Fidel Castro's side ever since a white dove landed on his shoulder during a victory speech in Havana after his 1959 revolution.
Tumblr media
Castaneda, who played the sax at Havana's famed Tropicana cabaret for 30 years, never joined Cuba's Communist Party, but considers himself a "revolutionary." He praised Cuba's social safety net despite widespread economic hardships Cubans face.
He said 60 percent of Cubans believe in Santeria and he can give them a voice in the National Assembly. Castaneda won a seat as president of the Yoruba Cultural Association of Cuba, which is close to the government.
The orishas augur a good year for Cuba, the babalawo said. "If Cuba marches ahead, so too does the Comandante," he said.

Human rights activists in Nigeria have launched a petition to stop a plan to push 100 girls and young women into marriage in a mass ceremony, which has caused outrage in the west African country. The plan, sponsored by Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, the speaker of the national assembly in the largely Muslim north-western state of Niger, were criticised by Nigeria’s women’s affairs minister, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye. She said she would seek a court injunction to stop the ceremony next week and establish if any of the girls were minors. Sarkindaji said the girls and young women were orphans whose parents were killed in attacks by kidnapping gangs that roam northern Nigeria. He said he would pay dowries to the grooms. A petition launched on Wednesday that has more than 8,000 signatures said the Niger state government should prioritise the education of the girls instead of forcing them into marriage.

NIGERIANS AGAINST U.S. & FRENCH MILITARY BASES
Now that Niger has announced its expulsion of US troops and Sahelian states have kicked out French military forces, could the two Western powers be eyeing its southern neighbour, Nigeria?
The leaders of research institutes and civil society organisations delivered a letter on 3 May to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly, rejecting any proposal to allow Western military bases into Nigeria.
The letter points out that terrorism worsened in the Sahel, an arid zone south of the Sahara Desert, during the period of US military occupation. According to a study by the US Department of Defense’s Africa Center for Strategic Studies, terrorism has increased by more than 100,000 per cent since US launched its ‘War on Terror’ in 2001. Additionally, according to the Global Terrorism Index, 43 per cent of all terrorism-related deaths in 2022 occurred in the Sahel. That year, more people died from terrorism there than in West Asia, South Asia and North Africa combined.

Just a reminder - there was a recent opinion piece by an emeritus professor of British public law on Harry's titles and the ability to trip them. by u/Chasmosaur
Just a reminder - there was a recent opinion piece by an emeritus professor of British public law on Harry's titles and the ability to trip them. [\sigh** STRIP them, not TRIP them. It's Saturday morning and I stayed up late to go see the Aurora Borealis. Apologies.]With the Nigeria trip, the discussion of Harry's titles and why hasn't Charles stripped them has come up again. So we can't link back to other posts or users, but two other members of this sub have posted this article in recent months, and it is worth your time:Sunday, December 3, 2023, User WorthSpecialist1066, "Interesting article by British Lawyer: Should Prince Harry Be Stripped of His Titles?"Tuesday, February 13, 2024, User Upbeat_Cat1182, "Outstanding MUST READ Article Concerning the Legalities of Removing Harry’s Titles and Styles"The article in question is here:December, 2023, The Honourable Society of The Middle Temple, "To Strip or Not to Strip Prince Harry’s Titles" [ Archive | Original ]I do encourage users to search out the two previous SMM posts for an overview, and to sit down and read the article itself. (And, you know, give them the upvotes because they already posted on the topic!) While it is written by a legal professional, it is very well written and clearly assembled as a solid overview for non-legal professionals. So it does answer the questions, "Why hasn't Harry had his titles stripped?" for each of his titles. Also, what is "The Honourable Society of The Middle Temple" and why should we care about their opinion? While it sounds like it's from a Dan Brown novel, it is, in fact, a professional association for barristers in the UK. It is one of four "Inns of Court", and you can read a nice overview from Wikipedia here about what that means. Basically these people are serious practitioners and scholars of law, so the article is a thoughtful overview that covers what is legally permitted...but also the realities of Harry's litigious tendencies and the way this ties up with Andrew and his titles as well.https://ift.tt/ZwsH8nz post link: https://ift.tt/lpSouzK author: Chasmosaur submitted: May 11, 2024 at 06:31PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog.
