Finally, I’m happy and proud to introduce you my sculpture of “Soaring Winds” from my independent & final Plaster Project in Sculpture I.
The sculpture introduces itself as an abstractive cloud being formed into a “human being” as it conveys the structure as stable and balance. It’s expressed as the armor shield of the human body to protect one’s self from any harm as well as providing the gentleness of the human to feel safe and loved by someone close to them. I was very inspired by Mariko Mori and Elizabeth Turk as they create their sculptures as if the bodies are like human shapes, so I was able to create a sculpture that expresses shapes as human body pieces. I wanted to convey the special nature of a human being based on kindness, sweetness, and purity. So, I focused on making the sculpture as a cloud since they can create any shape it wants, at the same time, feeling abstractive on creating a shape that’s out of this world. The pointed-curve at the top was very difficult as I had to carve out the interior pieces for the sculpture to bend itself and make everything very circular as a circle. Once I got past that part, I was able to shape the body as a curve circular boulder to hold itself and shape itself as a “helmet” to be hold. I really love how it looks like an armored female warrior of an abstractive cloud.
The pointed curve was very successful alongside the circular boulders as the successes of this sculpture. After carving in the pointed-curve top, it made the stability very easy to carve out the side and create the boulders to hold it together. It made everything improve itself on holding the top piece, at the same time, giving off the curviness of the body structure to express what the sculpture is. I really enjoyed the smoothing stage of the sculpture as I was able to smooth everything in a circular motion, it was very clean and neat as well as balanced to maintain the piece. Plus, it was very light-weighted to hold, so the symmetry was improved at the end. I’m very inspired to create more shapes to express and convey another shape of abstract to make it as a mystery shape to solve. I want to create a solving-game vibe for the audience to guess what kind of sculpture is.
Hope you guys love it!!!
Please leave any comments or ideas on how to make improvements, Thank You!!!

For this assignment I made a mini 8 page book from a single sheet of 8.5″x11″ paper.  The source material is my page of textures assignment from Week 1.
Tumblr media
First I made some material to cut and collage.  I used a printer to photocopy my book and make some materials at different sizes.  Note I’m showing this done by hand, but you can do this digitally too.
Tumblr media
Here is the book form.  Its an 8.5″x11″ paper.  First folded long ways down the middle, then folded into quarters on the short side.  You can see how the pages lay out in this version.  Note that the side facing you is always right side up, and the side away from you will be upside down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To make the form, simply fold the sheet as instructed above, then use a knife to cut the middle of the book.  You only need to cut along the length of the middle two pages in the middle of the folded sheet.  Use the folds as your guide.
After cutting, you’ll fold the book on the long edge, then gently push the ends in towards the middle, you’ll get the flower like shape above.  Simply push all the pages together, then crease.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can use your layout page to make a master.  Simply unfold it and lay it flat, then using your scissors and glue stick, cut and paste pieces of your collage material onto your form until you have a design you like.  This is your master.
You can then photograph, scan, or photocopy your master to make copies of your layout.
Above is my paste up master, and below is a copy of it.
To make my book, I’ll simply take my copy, fold it and cut it as I did with my blank sheet of paper before.
Tumblr media
Here is my final book form.  Below are the pages.

Presenting the seventh stage of my work-in-progress for “Hope” from my Cultural Unity series in Fine Arts Portfolio.
I’m about to be close of finishing up the portrait as the doctor’s fingers and hands are the only features left to work on. So, I went back to coating in the paints of the scenes with white paint for the exterior while I fix up the black box lines with black paint to convey the comic book scenery- They’re coming out really good!!!! And great news- the feminine trans man’s right eye has been fixed up and organize so now I have the fingers of the doctor to complete today. Stay tuned for the final completion.
Hope you guys love it!!!

Angel (2020)
13.5 x 9″ in Plaster, Chisel, Drywall Plaster, Water, Plastic Bowl, & Plaster Bucket
13.5 x 9″ in

Here’s my completed sculpture of “Angel” for Sculpture I.
This sculpture resembles an guardian angel as it expresses the beauty of one’s purity and goodness. The structure of the body to convey femininity, strength, and loving-kindness. I really love how this plaster came out- the body was very easy to construct through the chiseling stage as it was forming out from both sides.
The carving project was pretty fun to work on and it was a lot better from my original sculpture with the armature. I want to make more of them like this.
Hope you guys love it!!!

Okay, I’m currently working on remaking the 2nd artwork of “Generous Hearts” as well as my 3rd & 4th works of Art for my Fine Arts Portfolio class.
This time, I’m going with my professor’s advice on focusing on one of the scenarios to express my message by painting the panel as a single image first. Really hoping that I get this objective right, but I might need to get more details first just in case.
Hope you guys love it.
Please leave any comments on specific ideas for how these paintings could improve.

My Blog & Post of Sarah Schmerler for Intaglio Printmaking I & II.
I really learned a lot from listening to the Artist Interview of Sarah Schmerler as she explained that the work of art tells the story of the artist himself or herself through the creations that were constructed. I was very touched by her words on expressing the theme from the objects that hold a special place and gives out a meaning, and I agree with her about that. I always see the entire world around me as my inspiration from exploring my personal background to understanding different cultures. More than just that, it gives you a chance to look back into the happy moments in your life that really means to you with your loved ones. I always love my best friends very much as we always share the same love for all things Anime and Art together, so it goes back to the happy moments when I spend time with my best friends as we celebrated my 26thBirthday during the pandemic season. We’ve been apart for very long due to social distancing, but we become so happy when we meet up to celebrate my birthday or just on a regular day because we care for other. They even surprised me with cute Anime Stuff of my favorites as they always think about me just like I always think about them every day. The love, kindness, and support of my loved ones always inspired me to become a better person to everyone as I want them to always feel love as well as reminding them that we’re always in this together. Connecting with people brings all of us together and I want to convey this feeling with my Art.

Here’s my final portrait of “The Magical Seeds of Hope”. I chosen “Fireworks” by Katy Perry as it focuses on these young magical girls awakening to their own destinies towards greatness. I want to focus on these empowering girls finally opening up themselves to the world as they’re loved and acceptable for being themselves with their own amazing gifts, it makes them special. The Magical Girls look very exciting as they appeared very realistic with their animation remaining intact little by little, love the extra details.

Characters Day 1: Personalities... I used my deck of job cards. I divided a page into 6 frames.  I picked one card at a time from my deck of job cards and drew each character for 4 minutes.  NOTE: inking came later.
After finishing the six random characters, I selected one that I liked and did a page of timed drawings.  Starting with 2 minutes, then 1 minute, 30 seconds, and 15 seconds.  I did these in ink.
I redid my timed drawings because I realized I had focused on the face, and wanted to focus on the whole body.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters Day #2: I added to my characters by creating a deck of “attribute” card (adverbs/adjectives).  I selected a character card and an attribute card and spent 2-3 minutes drawing that character.
Notice for this day I didn’t grid out my paper.  Rather I just set a timer for 30 minutes and set about filling the page up with characters.  I worked all over, squeezing them in where ever I could.  Also I worked on the characters for different times, some came quick, others slower.
After I filled the page, I did my timed drawings again, selecting 1 character and drawing them for 2 minutes, 1 minute, 30 seconds, and 15 seconds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters Day 3: for this day I created a deck of “action” cards (verbs).  I selected a character and paired them with an action/motivation and drew them for 4 minutes (inking came later).  Then did my timed drawings.  My times were 2 minutes, 1 minutes, 45 seconds (two rounds), 30 seconds, 15 seconds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters Day 4: Improv! For the last day I selected two of my characters that I did over the previous days and I put them together into a 4 panel comic.  I considered their personalities and motivations.  Its good to think of putting these characters together as if they don’t know each other, and through the panels they get to meet.
I picked by “depressed reporter” and my “yelling hippy”.  I flowed from the first thought in my head: the reporter asking what the hippy was yelling about.  I liked the idea that the reporter, who is supposed to be objective and calm, would have something going on in their life that they couldn’t hold back and then breaking down.  In the end the characters change, the hippy offers comfort, the reporter cries... not a true role reversal, but a moment of exchange.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I was drawing I realized I wanted a bit more consistency between the panels and characters... I didn’t have lots of action going on, so I wanted them to be pretty easy to recognize.  So I did a little trick, tracing the characters from the first panel, then using some graphite transfer paper to move them to the other panels.  This gave me a basic character that I could change, but would remain recognizable in the four panels.
Tumblr media
Here is my final ink drawing. I’m working on adding some color digitally to see how it changes the piece.

Examples of my Extended Daily Journal.  5 things you did, 5 things you saw, something your read/heard (from someone, a song, tv, show, movie, book...), and an entry from “this day in history”.
It is important to use the page to allow your pen to wander: try to embellish the page to practice textures and lettering.
