One of my biggest pet peeves with EN Genshin fandom characterization is the constant outrage over characters being “OOC” and “unlike canon”... and then they cite:
a) the Japanese dub, which keeps the general gist the same but will sometimes wildly vary in characterization for the voice-acting
b) text from the English localization, which is a secondhand translation from CN -> JP -> EN (and will sometimes completely rewrite lines altogether as a result of this)
c) the English dub, which is based off the EN localization
I’m not here to criticize anybody’s VA preferences, but the hypocrisy over how biblically accurate a fan depiction needs to be to canon only to cite sources that are not, in fact, canon, drive me completely up the wall lmao
(seriously, just say you want fanon to line up with the specific dub you’re playing instead of playing the “x character is so misunderstood and not portrayed as ~the devs intended them~” card - there is something to be said of people misunderstanding basic lore in this fandom, but this ain’t it)
#原神#one of these days I'm going to compile a list of everything the JP dub does differently#bc I'm losing my mind over people treating it as one and the same as CN#there is nothing inherently wrong with reinterpretations but please#at least keep your hypocritical fanon elitism to a minimum#if you want canon#how about you actually play the canon
