Standing outside her door was like the moment before a car crash. He couldn’t sweat, but if he did, now would be the time. His engines were whirring. His gears were turning. He knew by the bat of her eyes and the small smile that this was what Nora wanted. This was why she brought him along to Goodneighbor then blindsided him with a, “Jenny’s there.” Jenny. Nick’s Jenny. But not really. 

The worn wooden door seemed to glare at him. He could turn back now. He could stop rehearsing what he’s going to say and change his mind, but damn, he’s already here and the knob was already turning. 

Sunlight slipped over his face. It slipped over her shoulders.

“Uh, hey there, Jenny,” he finally managed. “Thought I’d stop by... See how you’re coming along.”

i hate to say this but

i’m dropping all threads except the ones i have with @replayburdened @messengershot @ratherxintense and @akhilauos ( & a new one ill be starting with @atomlost )

i feel kinda bad about this but im just so tired from school & it takes a lot of time now for me to reply to stuff compared to before, when i’d reply really fast all in one day

but i hope this doesn’t discourage anyone from trying to rp with me in the future. i genuinely enjoy a lot of my mutuals’ muses, and ill probably be putting out another starter call at some point, so if you still want to rp keep an eye out.

None of the ghouls dwelling within Underworld knew they had obtained a vastly increased lifespan, at least at first. But as the decades dragged on, so too did everyone’s reluctant suspicions. August didn’t want to believe it. He told himself that people were getting the date wrong when they said it was approaching 2110, or that the EMP wave caused by the bombs had completely fried all of the clocks and the terminals’ chronometers in the museum. It was ridiculous. It made no sense. How the hell could they suddenly be ageless? 

The prospect of being some kind of shambling corpse for all eternity terrified him. He’d attempted suicide through various methods shortly after the completion of his ghoulification, partially due to his utter horror at the sheer revulsion he felt towards his new form, but found that he could never through with it and knew he couldn’t die completely on his own terms. So, deep down, he took comfort in the idea that he’d eventually pass away from old age if something else didn’t butcher him first. He could hopefully go to heaven. He could see his mother and Margot again. 

Eventually, sometime around 2130, August began to realise that he couldn’t deny the reality of the situation when the oldest inhabitants of Underworld were hitting their 120th birthdays and he was - somehow - in his mid-90s. 

Thus, he experienced another lapse in mental health. His depression worsened. He became reckless to the degree that Kelly strongly advised that he be put on leave of the scavenging team before he got himself killed. He had to come to terms with the fact that not only was he denied a natural death, but also that his condition wasn’t just a disease or some horrendous form of radiation sickness like he assumed; it was a permanent mutation. A mutation not entirely dissimilar from that which afflicted the hulking green monsters prowling the ruins, or what he saw on the posters for pre-War horror flicks. 

And this, inevitably, resulted in the eternally-troubling question: Was he even human any more? He still isn’t sure of the answer. 

August has since tried not to pay too much attention to his age. As far as he’s concerned, he’s still 42. He’s just so happened to have been 42 for about 210 years.

character in general:

whoa, okay so cool story? i love her muses, they’re all completely different and well developed and holy shit i just am in awe? i love these children. they have been adopted by me.

how they play them: 

tbqfh i’m always in awe of multi-muses, but to have such varied mentalities and backgrounds and to be able to not bleed into each other is kind of amazing tbh? they all have their own distinct voices and i’m just??? inspo right there tbh.

i can’t even bullshit about how much i love this blog. the hype is real, and steph is a fantastic writer with well written muses who are people you could easily see being canon in the game. ( c’mon, bring beau and kid in the next fallout. ) multimuses in general seem like such a challenge to me, and she pulls it off effortlessly. if you’re not following steph, you need to be,
