Ohmigosh... IT'S TURTLE TERV...!!! Or Tev, for short, because I cannot for the life of me come up with fresh nicknames based on my url lmao. I've been working on this so slow because of my hand and then I got a fever but finally I can post this<3

Tev owes her life to @spacemimz who so insanely kindly wanted to make a turtlesona for me ;_; ilu Mike there are still no words to describe how much this means to me!!!!!

AND YES she is based on a diamondback terrapin!!! An absolute galaxy brain choice from Mike, I was veering towards darker coloured turtles but they didn't really feel like me and then bam, problem solved, just like that

Ramblings about design changes and stuff under the cut:

The biggest changes I did to Mike's original design (I got granted free rein with it which, AWESOME SAUCE because initially I was dead set on designing the sona from scratch) are no hair because the absolutely adorable ref had my hairstyle and it was so cute but I just can't for the life of me to get it look right ahhgdhs but hey maybe... sometimes, she will wear wigs... I also simplified the shell pattern, made the hands and feet opaque for clarity and gave her slightly different clothes (which are subject to change because I'm goofy like that).

GHHH I. I LOVE THE CLAWS AND THE BIGGER HANDS AND FOREARMS those I absolutely wanted to keep and it's also funny because I have tiny EU size 7 hands but this sona is the complete opposite. It honestly just makes me happy!!

And because I'm extra, I have now two different ways to draw her markings lol. I like the spray airbrush and the hand-saving gradient it gives but I know for certain that I won't be patient enough to always use it so the silly kinda-chibi "Gosh darn it dropped my glasses I hope no one saw" pic has all the spots hand drawn. It works well for smaller scale pics and is also cute so win-win >:3

I have been asked questions about one of the Small Plants :D Tyty, and absolutely!! I need to talk about him and his sister Ia more often.

🖊 - Tev's still little, so he's very much still training for this, but his eventual elite spec will be daredevil. He's got a lot of the mobility of his aunt's and his mother's fighting styles, but he hits very hard and is not afraid to get up in your face about it. Most people don't expect this from him until they see him fight. He enjoys surprising them.

🖊 - Out of all the places we get to see in Cantha, he loves New Kaineng the most. The city feeling with the new (to him at the time) jade tech, and the fact that you can climb up and down so many different things (whether or not you're actually supposed to be), are very much things he loves. The only thing he doesn't like about New Kaineng (outside of the Void invasions and the struggles with the Jade Brotherhood and the Purists) is how on edge it makes Ia, even though she pretends otherwise.

🖊 - Tev is unnaturally good at getting people to listen to him, when he really wants to be--even at this point in the timeline (where he's about the equivalent of nine years old at most). He managed to talk his way out of getting kidnapped by the Nightmare Court when he was closer to (the equivalent of) five or six years old. He also feels immensely guilty about that, as he was only able to save himself and not Ia, who wasn't anywhere nearby at that point.

💐 How does your OC handle being unwell or forced to rest in bed?

Nell: Cannot stand it. You cannot tell them what to do. Nell needs to really, really trust you for her to let you boss her around

Jose: Tends to lament like a Victorian widow, lies in bed and refuses to move- will happily rest for as long as he needs. #selfcare

Who cares for them and in what ways?

Nell: Typically Nell just takes care of themselves - though if the sickness or injury is bad enough their best friend Daph can and will drive to them to take care of them for a time. He's one of the few people Nell trusts implicitly in all AUs even if they rarely see each other

Jose: Jose has both of his parents, several caring mentors and tons of "aunts and uncles" - it all depends on where he is and for how long really lol

Does your OC enjoy being doted on or are they a terrible patient?

Nell: The worst kind of patient. They hate it

Jose: Love it. Please shower him in affection and attention. Very grateful

Reversed: is your OC good at taking care of others who are ill or in need?

Nell: She's a nurse, so yes!

Jose: He's not great, but he'll put in the effort - he's a better protector than he is caretaker

🌿 What way does your OC show that they care without using words?

Nell: Is a peak "How I show my love is actively being there for you" kind of person. No shit, if she cares, she can and will be there for you 24/7. Need a 3 AM buddy? Call Nell. They will drop everything. (what this isn't because she constantly felt abandoned as a kid and overcompensates as an adult by going out of their way for others )

Jose: Hugs. Jose's main love language is touch and he can and will hug and snuggle and hold hands with the people he loves.

What way do others show your OC that they’re cared about without using speech?

Nell: Being there for her when she isn't actively asking for that help. Nell is so used to being left out or in the lurch that being actively pursued or cared for when it isn't asked for can overwhelm her (Ask Marcus in the BCU 🥺)

Jose: Return that physical affection. Just. Return the hug, and tell him that you care for him. Those affirmations help him a lot.

🌼 Who are this characters friends and found family?

Nell: This varies widely dependent on the AU - Though in your case Lemel and Tev are definitely friends ;) - though, for the most part, Nell has one consistent friend - Daph. Other than that... they're pretty lonely (Though again, this varies based on the AU)

Jose: Too many to count. Particularly in the "Found Family" department. Jose is one of those Protags who just. collects found family members like he's picking apples at a particularly ripe orchard.

How did they meet, how long have they been friends for, could they ever be something more than just friends?

Nell: Met Daph around two years after getting the hell out of their hometown, and have been friends for coming up on 20 or so years (varies based on AU) and lmao no. Daph and Nell are great friends, but they are not each other's type.

Jose: This doesn't count for Jose lmao

What do they look for in a friend or a romantic partner?

Nell: God, Nell has such low standards. Just be kind and attentive, and keep up with her. That's it. Also Nell can be a little. Iffy, when it comes to making friends. You will need to be patient with them.

Jose: The poor "kid" is still trying to figure how to make friends out in the wild - most of the time he can make friends if he's forced into groups, but making friends doesn't come very easy to him. Romantic partners even less so, since he doesn't have a lot of dating experience as of yet.

👪 FAMILY - what is their family like? what is your ocs relationship to them? does your oc have any siblings?

Ooh, Nisha and family, huh? Always a fun topic to delve into :D

As in direct/immediate blood family members, xe had xyr Mother (now dead) and still very much has xyr twin brother Rel. As in the family xe's built, there's xyr partners (Kerra and Canach) and xyr kids (Rhi, Tev, Ia, Aurene). Nisha doesn't quite see either Caithe or Trahearne as siblings--xe has one brother, and that's it--but they do eventually come to fit into the nebulous space of "family" as well. Xe got to know both Caithe and Trahearne better during the period of time post-HoT when Caithe was watching over Aurene's egg and Trahearne was recovering from...well, all of HoT. And as for one more person to add in here, when Nisha meets Cyp (which is in the same time frame as very early EoD), he eventually becomes family too. Xe gets the chance to act as a mentor figure of sorts to him and takes it.

There's literally so many nuances I could delve into here--the various ups and downs of xyr relationship with xyr brother, the fact that xe absolutely stumbled 100% accidentally into seeing xemself as a parent to Aurene, the different interactions xe had with Caithe/Trahearne/Cyp, etc.--but something I want to note is xyr relationship to the Pale Tree. That's not xyr mother. She's something akin to Nisha's aunt, if anything. And it's notable here that Rel, xyr brother, actively avoids interacting with her again after the personal story. The Pale Tree is one of the few people he holds a grudge against (which is a story in and of itself, haha). Nisha, on the other hand, actively visits a few times. The first time was to get a better idea of who she was and why she lied/didn't tell her children the full truth of their origin. The second was more to actually see the Grove than to see the Pale Tree, but xe did stop by and say a very awkward hello. The third was to ask her other assorted questions. And the fourth was with Cyp, to introduce him to his Mother for the first time.

(Again, so much more here, but I'm gonna pause there for now!)

🎂 BIRTHDAY CAKE - when is their birthday? do they like celebrating it?

Rel and Nisha awoke in the summer (around June, but I'd have to look up the GW2 calendar equivalent) of 1322! And as for celebrating it...it doesn't occur to xem to bother celebrating it until after HoT, at which point xe does, indeed, enjoy it :)

🌙 MOON - what is your oc's greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it?

That everyone would have the opportunity to have a childhood, and not be thrust into trauma and battles and the world before they've had that chance. And how far is she willing to go for it? Depends on when you asked her that question. You'd get a more tempered answer nowadays, in part because she values herself more and in part because she doesn't truly see that as a widely achievable goal at this point, even though she does believe she's helped move the world in that direction. If you asked her during the late PS or right afterwards, she would have said as far as I have to.

🍩 DONUT - favorite sweet treat?

There's a few, but the peppermint Wintersday cakes are definitely up there :)

Small spaces that he knows well and are easily defensible if need be (though that one's more 'secure' and less 'comforted'), occasional hugs from people he's particularly close to, fresh fruit when he's able to get it, nights when he's able to see as many stars as possible, someone being nearby who he trusts enough to have his back.

I’m Rhianyi, if you want my full name, but Rhi’s fine. I don’t have any titles.

2. What is your gender identity, orientation and relationship status? 

You better not be publishing this in a magazine or something, mysterious interviewer person. Enby, no idea but I haven’t had a crush on anyone yet, and single.

3. Where and when were you born? 

Early 1331 A.E., Sun’s Refuge, Jahai Bluffs. Born almost on the dot at 6 in the evening, by the way, so no one can agree if I’m a Duskbloom or a Nightbloom.

4. What is your weapon of choice and fighting style? 

Rifle or greatsword. I’m a warrior, and I’ve been told I fight like my dad. So if you’re really curious, ask him if there’s a name for whatever way that is.

5. Lastly, are you happy? 

Life’s never perfect, but generally speaking? (They smile.) Yes, I am.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS

1. What’s your family like? What is your relationship with them?

In my experience, the only people who haven’t heard of my parents are either children or have been hiding under a rock for the past ten years. That comes of being the child of one of the former Pact Marshals, an ex-criminal sylvari who did a number of notable crimes, and the Commander. I don’t care for the spotlight, but I love my parents and wouldn’t ever trade them for anyone else.

I know you’ve heard of my big sister Aurene, but she’s fantastic, too, and so are my twin little siblings, who just awakened this year. (They frown.) They have been teaching me lessons in chaos, though, and please do not give Ia anything explosive. Or give Tev knives. I’ve only done the second one but both are bad ideas.

2. Have you ever ran away from home? 

(Their smile droops just a little, but they speak brightly.) Nope!

3. Would you consider marriage or having children? 

Maybe. I haven’t really thought too much about that yet.

4. Do you secretly hate one of your friends? 

Why would I?

5. Which friend knows everything about you? 

She’s my sister, but she’s my friend too, so--Aurene.

Yes, I’m literate. And no, I’ve been homeschooled by my family. I would just say my parents, but it’s also my uncles and aunt and several of their friends, so...

Nothing yet, but don’t jinx it.

3. What is something you were embarrassingly late to realize?

That other species don’t grow as fast as I do. (Their mouth twists.) It’s...not bad, but it makes things hard sometimes.

4. Do you have mental health or physical issues? 

I’m colorblind. And I can’t do bright lights. Sun’s Refuge is great, but the open desert? Not so much. Sunglasses are excellent, though.

5. What is your current main goal? 

I know adventures are dangerous, but I’d still like to have one--on my own terms.
