WiFi - Optimize Your Wireless Network in Five Simple Steps

Anyone who has tried to deploy a WiFi router will wonder if the network actually works where it serves its purpose. Establishing a wireless Ethernet network is significantly more complicated than setting up a wireless network for four reasons:

Wireless networks clearly have no cables, so it becomes difficult to determine where devices such as laptops are connected as funny wireless names. Before switching to your WLN router, do a "passive" assessment to determine which networks will appear in your home and which channels they are using. Configure your wifi router to use the best channel based on the data above Evaluate "active" on your laptop to see how network data is delivered from anywhere in your home Repeat test to improve experimentation and performance with wireless router settings Reuse and test client settings to increase performance First download the WaveDeploy Basic and install it on your wireless laptop. To use the application you must register first. However, it is completely free and does not share your data with third parties, such as Variwave, the company that develops WebDevelop.

The next step is to use tools such as microfight paint to plan the floor of your home (or to download and create an image from Google Maps if you are lucky enough to have a large enough building!). Do your best to make a map to measure as much as possible. However, keep in mind that it should not be 100% accurate. Take 15 minutes to create the best possible image and save it to an image file (bmp, png or jpeg formats are fine).

To perform passive evaluation with WaveDeploy Basic, follow the instructions in the help file. In short, you start the app, load the floor plan of your house, and then take a series of measurements at various locations in your home. To take a measurement, click on the position that matches your position. WaveDeploy scans the air and measures which network is visible, which channel it is on, and measures the signal strength of each network. The measurement takes about seven seconds. Then move to the next location and repeat the process. Size for your entire home in about 10 minutes.

Complete the assessment and view the results. Your card will display a list of all the networks found in your home through your laptop. Green means the network is very well received. Red means that he was weakly identified. Pay particular attention to which channels were used for the most widely received signals in most parts of your home. You should avoid using these channels for your wireless network.

Now set up the channel for your WLN router. First check the manufacturer's information for the configuration of the router or router whether you are using the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band. If WPA2 is not available, use WPA or TKIP with PSK. This security setting is still very good, but not as strong as WPA2. If this does not work, you cannot use authentication, also known as "open". WEP may be available, but use is not recommended. WEP was once considered safe, but it broke years ago and there are many tools that now decrypt these messages automatically. WEP is dangerous because it gives users a very wrong sense of security. You would think that if the reality is that a simple hacker can easily access their data, then they will be safe. Note that you need to choose a security method that is supported by your laptop and smartphone as well as a WiFi router.

At this point you can do more passive evaluation, showing you the areas in which your WLN router's signal is clearly visible. However, if another computer is available, it is preferable to use it with WaveDeploy for active evaluation. With active evaluation, in addition to signal coverage and interference, data is transferred between two computers to measure the maximum download speed at each location in your network. Instructions for configuring active evaluation can be found again in the help files in the application.

Active evaluation takes some time. However, when you are working, your efforts will be rewarded with a card called "heatwave", which shows how fast your wireless network can transfer traffic to your laptop anywhere in your home. You might be surprised that the chic 802.11n router you've purchased can only provide a fraction of the promised 300 Mbit / s performance! Part of this is due to marketing specifications. WaveDeploy measures the amount of basic application traffic, e.g. B. Web pages that can transmit networks. Most of our player base is within the USA and Canada; however, we do have numerous Europeans (~30% of the player population) (Brits, Dutchies, Irish, Finns, and Swedes) along with a few Aussies. Newer Map! ImagineCraft is now on what we refer to as "Season 2" after a map reset on Dec 14, 2016 after just over 1.5 years of play! So if you're looking to not be far behind on player economy and still want to contribute in a positive manner, there is room to do so! We performed a map reset for technical reasons as our old map was 45Kx45K and disk space became an issue as well as needing to increase the borders due to game updates introducing new chunk generation behaviors. The community voted for and ultimately approved the map reset. Going forward we are making efforts to future-proof the map from resetting by utilizing a smaller border that expands as chunk generation behaviors change with game updates.

Go Exploring! The world is adequately sized with a reasonable border that allows for plenty of room for exploration and contains a vast variety of unique biomes! Be Yourself!. Nothing says be yourself than hanging out on TeamSpeak voice chatting with everyone and chilling inside dubtrack (plays songs for everyone simultaneously). Some of our most fun moments on the server have involved karaoke moments. On a side note, it's a good thing I'm better with computers than I am at singing, hah.

Rules

As of Nov. 7th, 2015 we only accept players that are 17 years of age and older..

No malicious activity which includes griefing, hacking, or theft. We average one ban a month since May 2015. With theft being the leading crime, followed by x-rayers.

Player mods that defeat the challenge of playing on a semi-vanilla server are not allowed. An example would be running an x-ray mod or modified resource pack for direct access to ores.

Players are encouraged to lend a helping hand and to do things together like exploring, building, working on large-scale projects, etc. We get that sometimes it's cool to be solitary, but we're trying to avoid the lone ranger types that just go off and you never see them again. Why bother playing Multiplayer?

Be mature (as in, the opposite of immature, not meaning mature as in Rated-R mature) and remember the golden rule, do unto others and you'd have them do unto you. We are all about a positive experience on ImagineCraft and any negative behavior (aside from tasteful pranks) will result in you being banned.

Chat is to be kept family-friendly. TeamSpeak has a 17+ channel so you can be "adult" in there if you'd like, but our in-game chat is kept clean as we have a few under 17 that were here before the rule was passed to admit only 17+. Don't worry, they're exceptional and completely awesome.

Server Plugins

I do my best to preserve the vanilla feel as much as possible while allowing for certain plugins to be utilized to help enhance your experience. Here are some of the extras:

Dynmap - It's like Google Maps but for a Minecraft server. We even use it for some of our neat treasure hunts, such as Geocaching. Video here if you're curious about how we do geocaching on ImagineCraft.

PvP Plugins(2): We do have quite a few players who like to mix up the PvE experience with some PvP. Globally, PvP is disabled so unless you go to these areas, you won't have to worry about PvP. We have various arenas setup for Free for All as well as Capture the Flag. If you enjoy PvP and want to build arenas, I'll work with you to make it happen. The great thing about these plugins is that you can PvP without having to worry about losing your gear as your inventory is saved prior to playing and replenished after the match has ended. Kits are provided.

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) - Ever wish you could still keep in touch with those in game when you're out and about? No problem. We have an IRC bridge in place that will allow you to keep in touch with those in game on various devices and platforms. You can even just use a web browser instead of an actual IRC application. If you don't know anything about IRC, don't worry, our Wiki will walk you through everything you need to know to get started.

Sensing and Intuition - How You Take In Information

Sensing and intuition are two different techniques of perception – how you see things. When you take in information one of these preferences dictates what you notice, what you think about, and what’s important from the information available to you.

This preference pair, the second in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, is a kind of filtering system. What information do you trust and believe most when taking in something new? Is it your five senses (sensing) or insight and imagination (intuition)? What do you pay attention to - pattern and possibility (intuition) or facts (sensing)?

Here are some words and phrases often associated with the two types. What’s the type that you prefer more often? If you’re having trouble deciding, it’s sometimes easier to use the process of elimination method by recognizing yourself in what you don’t like. Ask yourself, “Which of these descriptions isn’t me – which one would I loathe if I did this most of the day?”

Sensing and Intuition Differences

When people who prefer intuition take in new information, they often look for different patterns. “How does this idea relate to other ideas?” is a common intuition question. People who prefer the sensing function are often seen as being ‘down to earth’. And people who prefer the intuition function are often seen as having their ‘heads in the clouds’. The intuition function gets excited and says, “We can do this, this, this, and this!” The sensing function provides the reality check and says, “Yes, but how are we going to do it?”

People who prefer intuition will see possibilities, patterns, ideas when given new information. They’ll ask, “What are some ways that we can use this down the road?” People who prefer sensing will say, “This is all interesting theory, but how is it going to make me a better______?” They’re more interested in a specific application of new information. “Who has done this before? How can I make this work?” are two other questions the sensing function may ask. Memory for specific detail is more of a sensing function attribute. Memory of larger concepts is an intuition function attribute.

Going For A Walk With Sensing and Intuition

When taking a walk sensing people may notice the physical features of the forest – buds, opening leaves, specific plants, sunlight on rain drops, and the path they took to get there. They’re deeply immersed in the present moment, enjoying all the wonderful things their five senses are feeding them.

A person preferring intuition may see one of those things, a leaf for example, which makes them think of fall, which reminds them of hikes on their parents’ farm with the family dog, which makes them wonder if they should get a dog, but how would the cats deal with that and there are all kinds of cats in the world, and how is a lion related to a house cat and then they wonder if they’ll ever get to Africa, which makes them think of the Blood Diamonds movie, and then they wonder what Leonardo Di Caprio would be like to hang out with, and on and on. The same walk in the woods provides two very different journeys.

Inspiration = Intuition

The leaps of imagination that bring you from an everyday object to something new and wonderful are examples of your intuition at work. Intuition was at play when Swiss engineer, George de Mestral came up with the idea of Velcro while on a summer walk with his dog in 1945 Examining the burrs of burdock that kept sticking to his clothes and his dog's fur caused a leap of intuition. Art Clokey was inspired to create Gumby after viewing his father’s stubborn cowlick in his high school picture.

You Need Each Other

Thomas Edison said, “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.” Intuition supplies the inspiration and sensing supplies the perspiration. You need both. Without intuition, there are no ideas. Without sensing, ideas cannot become reality. Without the sensing function, two major boons to the world – Velcro and Gumby – would still only be ‘good ideas’.

If a person who prefers the sensing function and one who prefers the intuition function encounter the same situation, they will notice and remember different things. That’s why it’s so important to include people with the sensing function and people with the intuitive function on a team. Together, they provide a complete picture of a scenario. With only one of those in play, the team misses out on half of the important information.

We’re All Types Every Day

Would you like to know what you have in common with every other person on earth? We all use all personality types all day, every day. For example, regardless of your preference for extraversion or introversion, every day you get and give energy to external people and events (extraversion) as well as the inner world of thoughts and reflections (introversion).

You may have noticed this when you read the descriptions of the different types. Perhaps you said to yourself, “Yes, but I do what the one type description says some of the time, and some of the time I do what the other type description says.” You may even have been hard-pressed to decide which one you preferred. “But I do both!”

And that is exactly true. You do indeed do both every day. The important piece is to try to discern which type you prefer. Even though you use both of your hands throughout the day, you probably prefer to use one hand to the other. Either your left or right hand feels more comfortable and natural. And you get better results. To illustrate this, try writing your name with your non-dominant hand. This holds true for your type - you use both, but one feels more comfortable. And you’re more efficient and productive if your preferred type is in play.

Your Type, Your Gift

Jungian type theory is a tool to give you options, not to put yourself or someone else in a box. All types are good – there are no bad or wrong types. Your type is your gift either to be utilized for a more successful life or to be squandered by not using it. Your type is a gift, not an excuse. It’s not a free pass to be used to avoid assigned tasks or performance issues that need to be addressed.

Look at the people around you, whether co-workers, friends, or family members. Get curious about their unique gifts. Encourage these gifts to blossom and be leveraged to best do the work at hand so that everyone can have more successful lives.

Your Neighborhood

“It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.” – Mr. Rogers

Consider the neighborhood analogy. Within each town or city there are different neighborhoods. You live in your neighborhood for a reason, and if you like where you are, you probably share many of the values of others in your neighborhood. You are most comfortable in your neighborhood. Like most of us, you probably enjoy exploring, but as the song says, “It’s nice to go traveling, but it’s nice to come home again.” You are most comfortable in your own neighborhood.

Deciding what your preferred type is accesses a common language that you can use to discuss your differences with others – a language of ‘neighborhoods’. How common is this language of types? The MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), which uses Jungian type theory as its basis, is the world’s most widely used personality inventory. When you use this language with others in discussing differences and how to leverage them, chances are pretty good that many will already have some understanding of what you’re talking about. And it focuses your search for your ‘home’ into a more efficient process. After all, now you know what neighborhood to look at.

Home, Sweet Home

You’re more than your preference. Some of the descriptor words and phrases may ring true, others won’t. Just as your home in your neighborhood is unique, so you occupy a unique position within a type description. What it does do though, is to focus your quest on a particular area, which makes your search much more efficient. If you can clearly articulate your unique home within a type of neighborhood you will be able to be at your best more of the time.

Type Examples

Below are some examples of movie characters, writings and quotes that exhibit many of the traits of the two different types. These are examples only, and they’re all guesses. We can only guess at what people’s types may be, or characters may be by their words or actions. It’s dangerous and ignorant to presume to know what someone else’s type is unless they’ve told you. Jungian type is completely self-determined.

So be careful with real people – avoid stereotyping. However it’s fun to speculate with famous people. For example, Gandhi’s two hours a day quietly using a spinning wheel alone, his numerous anecdotes in his Autobiography of his shyness, and even his solutions to his country’s problems – fasting, non-violence, walking to the ocean – all point to him probably preferring introversion.

So enjoy these guesses. Take them with a grain of salt, and feel free to agree or disagree with our guesses as you deepen your understanding of type.

Because as you guys know I’m obsessed with her and I didn’t want to take any mental time away from her. The intricacy of the the bios though, coupled with your leadership skills and all the fun exciting events we get to do. It’s just fantastic. I love it ⤜ What is one subplot/element from the Plot page that you are particularly looking forward to seeing in this roleplay? ⤜ Why do you want this character? 

I want this character because I apparently love characters who are children with dead parents. JUST KIDDING. I thought it was funny that both characters that caught my attention had that in common. But no, I really want this character for a multitude of reasons. For one, I love the connections that Jeremy has. I love that he has his drug friends. I love that he has the Salvatore brothers breathing down his neck in the facet of, oh you’re Elena’s little brother so I must protect you, but oh also Jeremy knows that you two are vampires now who follow my big sister around and who I blame for killing Vicki Donovan (as if Jeremy needs a reason to dislike people). But that’s just a few the dynamics I love. I also love that he’s into drugs and substance abuse. I think that that is going to be a bit difficult to write, but I’m interested in the challenge that writing a drugged up or drunk character can present. I love the tiny details in this bio and just SING to me. For example, his blacklist? Like where does he keep this blacklist in his room and like how does he know when to add to it? Also what does he mean to do with it? LOVE IT. Also, I love that he draws, but shhh not anymore bc no, can’t give any of the people who want to ‘help’ him in his life something to hang there hat on. But lastly, I love the person that he is. I love this sad boy nature he has that is so stubbornly engrained in him. I feel like, if he doesn’t cling to this anger and sadness, then he’ll feel that he’s doing wrong by his parents passing. Especially since the beginning of his bio has this push and pull about how life moved so fast beyond their passing and how the people of Mystic Falls could so easily move past their memory. I think that driving force in him is SO powerful and one that he has yet to talk about with anyone because he is locked that part of himself away. There’s so many things I love you guys. This bio amaze balls. ALSO NOT TO MENTION THAT HE’S RECENTLY FOUND OUT ABOUT VAMPIRES. THAT’S HUGE. LOVE IT.   

⤜ What are your future plans for this character?

As far as where I see Jeremy going within this rp, just because of the fact that he is so stubborn and angry at the world, I think that gives him a huge amount of potential for growth. I think Jeremy is going to have to find something in this NOLA world that means something to him. Obviously you’ve got the doppleganger, Elena, Klaus situation happening that he doesn’t know about yet. You’ve also got him interested in weapons. I think that the weapons aspect of it is going to become a real serious thing for him as he starts uncovering the veil of the super natural despite the fact that he doesn’t want to. Jeremy finding access to these weapons and also maybe finding mentors to help him use them, will give him a way to feel like he is doing his part in avenging deaths of innocent people. Vicki Donovan being one of them obviously, in regards specifically to vampires. I think that will be a way for Jeremy to channel his sadness and guilt over his parents passing into a more healthy and productive manner. He’ll be able to satiate his anger in a way. While I think its harder to pull from him just yet, Jeremy does /really/ care about Jenna and Elena. So I think that their being in danger at any point will present moments for him where he will have to release real emotion. I think the rp generally will push him to feel that sense of responsibility in very real ways, which will inevitably develop his connections and understanding of the world. You’ve also got his connection to Sabine and her drugs causing him hallucinations, along with his realization of the super natural world. Obviously learning about the super natural world is going to force him to grow in new ways and despite the fact that he is staunchly against learning about it or knowing about it, it’ll become a reality for him either which way.   

⤜ Put yourself in your character’s shoes. Give us a few lines to describe a day in the life of your character... Where do they live? Where and how do they spend their time? 

I see a day in the life of Jeremy Gilbert as him sleeping in till about ten, maybe noon on a good day. I would imagine that Jenna would try to get him to go to school. It’s possible that she gets him out of bed but if that is the case then he blows right past her out of the house and gets into his car. On a general basis Jenna probably won’t see him until he shows back up in the house, in which case he’s likely to go back up to his room and lock the door so as to avoid fielding any kind of annoying conversations about his whereabouts and such. When he is out of the house, I think he’s looking into archaic weaponry. Jeremy likes to remain in this facade of not caring about anything or anyone. But I think he does have intellectual interests that are currently being geared towards how to protect him and the people he loves from super naturals as a human. But if he was pursuing that interest, it would be a particularly good day for him. Because other than that I think he’s trolling the Quarter for a good laugh or a good party. Of course, before he does any of that he’ll get himself a good little high off a perfectly rolled joint of which he took great pride in creating. If anyone questions him or looks at him funny, depending on his mood, he may be inclined to start a fight, especially if your name is Tyler Lockwood. On the more rare occasions that Jeremy does make it to school, he is likely under the influence there as well as it’s the only thing that would get him through that. Though Jeremy’s tolerance would be high enough at this point that he’s able to handle himself well enough. Of course, he wouldn’t use the hallucinogenic drugs that Sabine provides him with on these particular days. At school, unless provoked I think he just rides under the radar with a few unnamed stoner buddies he gets along with. If he does get provoked for any reason, Jeremy will be inclined to start a fight and not back down. He has a lot of aggression to get out and has no problem doing it to someone who decides to step in his way. Although, I don’t think Jeremy would hit a girl. I don’t think that Jeremy has ever experienced any consequences that have been too intense, or at least more intense than Vicki’s death or his parents. So I think because of that it’s become easy for him to rationalize such rash behavior. I think that because Jeremy is able to shirk so much responsibility, he’s also able to go out on any night he pleases, which he does please to do. Going out and partying allows him to will his entire world away with such ease. Often times I think he finds himself rolling (no pun intended) with Josh and Sabine. Though he’s just starting to question this motley crew due to the fact that Josh is less affected by substances and Sabine’s substances take him to a whole other level. But because I think in the back of his head he knows the answers will lead him to places he doesn’t want to go, he’s also subduing some of that curiosity in a way. Finally, somehow someway, most nights, he makes it back to his own bed when he passes out and repeats till the next day. The boy rarely goes to sleep without toking up first, and never wakes up without a good baking.

So this list! So I think Jeremy first made this list immediately after what happened with Vicki Donovan. I think he was not sobered, but obviously very 'sobered up’ by what he’d witnessed. The images were just flashing through his head, all the horrors that he learned about seeming to come to life before his literal eyes. And he knew it wasn’t Sabine’s drugs in this case too. But the second he was all alone, his mind would’ve just been racing with such anger and fear. I think he pulled out a piece of paper and pen and began to write out this list of people, Damon at the top, then Stefan, then Tyler. I think this list made him feel slightly better, like he had /some/ control over the shit that goes on in his life, or could have control over it. And I think this list works in conjunction with his new found affinity for weaponry. Again, him needing to find a teeny bit of control.

 I don’t think Jeremy has completely given up on drawing. I imagine that he doodles to his hearts content in class, hood up, arms covering up the work. It’s very personal to him and something he wants to keep a secret. Think it would be cool to have someone accidentally discover his doodle notebook one day. 

Jeremy loves coffee. He is coffee connoisseur and enjoys trying all the different drinks the town has to offer in regards to it. I think he runs on coffee and drugs every day, sometimes staying up into all hours of the night. If he gets really inspired he might’ve even go on a drawing spree, though you can be sure the drawings will be kept well hidden away from Elena and Jenna. 

⤜ What are some plots you'd like to explore with your characater?

Plots that I’d like to explore with this character–so many. His new found affinity for weapons and how that might connect with the Argents. Already Allison has noticed his interest in weapons, so building off of that will be super interesting.His connection with Bonnie and how that will allow him to grow and develop since she has a specific little hold on him that he can’t seem to shake in regards to being just a tad bit more open. I want to see where Matt and Jeremy go. I think that the two of them have the potential to develop in similar ways. Which could allow them to befriend one another in this mission I see him having of wanting to protect those who can’t protect themselves.I’d love for someone to find his doodle notebook. I’d love to see what happens when people try to discipline him, or tell him that he is immature and childish (which he obvi is).I’d love to see how his and Sabine’s friendship progresses and how that pushes him to break more into the super natural worldI think Jeremy also has an affinity for beautiful women, of which there are an abundance of in NOLA. I could see him developing a flirtation with any number of women, at least those who find his immaturity tolerable.

Player mods that defeat the challenge of playing on a semi-vanilla server are not allowed. An example would be running an x-ray mod or modified resource pack for direct access to ores.

Players are encouraged to lend a helping hand and to do things together like exploring, building, working on large-scale projects, etc. We get that sometimes it's cool to be solitary, but we're trying to avoid the lone ranger types that just go off and you never see them again. Why bother playing Multiplayer?

Be mature (as in, the opposite of immature, not meaning mature as in Rated-R mature) and remember the golden rule, do unto others and you'd have them do unto you. We are all about a positive experience on ImagineCraft and any negative behavior (aside from tasteful pranks) will result in you being banned.

Chat is to be kept family-friendly. TeamSpeak has a 17+ channel so you can be "adult" in there if you'd like, but our in-game chat is kept clean as we have a few under 17 that were here before the rule was passed to admit only 17+. Don't worry, they're exceptional and completely awesome.
