[Angel Kisses]
The best part of being an Angel in Aziraphale's humble opinion - apart from the blessing and being Good, of course - is that smooching your partner will leave visible evidence if done often enough. And Aziraphale (the bastard) is nothing but persistent when they've set their mind to it.
Crowley just grumbles something about his reputation, but they both know she absolutely loves those glowing freckles.

I don't really care to see Crowley's Fall, but what I do want to see is the moment he decided to "go along with Hell as far as he can", essentially choosing to be on his own side. I suppose it could be one and the same - he hung out with the wrong people so now he decides to be mostly in his own line and listen to what he thinks is best (until a certain angel agrees to soothe the loneliness and joins him). Still I wonder.
As we know, Crowley's brand of "evil" consists more of him creating things that become a major inconvenience at worse for humans, which makes them more susceptible to succumb to sins etc, instead of targeting certain people the way other demons like Hastur and Ligur do. He's not really evil, but he does enjoy being a bastard. And he's a creative bastard so his schemes always more or less work and it's, frankly, more efficient anyway.
What made him draw the line though? Did one of his past temptations have horrible consequences he didn't foresee, which pleased Hell but made him question everything again? We see Crowley vaguely talk about his Fall several times but we don't really get him talking about his role as a demon and what it entailed. That's what I'm curious about and would love to explore.

how much would I pay for a drop dead gorgeous Crowley in an emerald green dress and his hair stands out like fire and maybe some diamond earrings and Aziraphale’s heart stops a little bit like it’s prom night

Good Omens 2 appreciation post for that moment after Nina has just rocked Crowley's world with the revelation that no, he isn't slick and yes, it is glaringly obvious to everyone just how head over heels in love with Aziraphale he is.
Crowley takes himself off to the french restaurant and is drowning his sorrows in a bottle of wine while having the realisation that he's been following the angel around like a lovesick puppy all day with no other possible agenda other than to be around him.
And then he sees Aziraphale and whistles him over but the angel is too busy to join him for a wine in the middle of the day and Crowley tries to divert questions by complaining that he's scared Gabriel/Jim is gonna smite him and he'll be well and truly smote, no, smoted? Smited? What's the word he's looking for?
And the angel gives him a knowing look and says:
"Smitten, I believe."
PERFECTION.
GRAMMATICAL CORRECTION AND DIAGNOSIS IN A SENTENCE.
AZIRAPHALE JUST READ HIM LIKE A HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE BOOK AND DOESN'T EVEN REALISE HE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD.
This is my new favourite double entendre.
Smitten as the past tense of Smite. And the exact reason Crowley is drinking in the middle of the day.
He's realising he's smitten, your honour.
I hope Neil closed the laptop with a dramatic flourish after writing that line. Hell if I'd written a moment that perfect I'd take a victory lap of the kitchen and then call someone to tell them how clever I'd been before I pop.

I've been rolling around in Good Omens thoughts again and a gifset made something jump out at me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where the Metatron is going to come undone. He's got the same binary thinking as Heaven. Good or bad. Heaven or hell. Coffee or death. So predictable.
It reminded me of the scene in S1 when Aziraphale is confronted by the angels and they tell him "it's time to choose a side" and this is where it gets chewy and delicious.
Aziraphale points out "there obviously has to be two sides. That's the whole point, so people can make choices. That's what being human means - choices, but that's for them. Our job as angels should be to keep all this working so they can make choices".
He's already arguing for humanity all the way through S1, which is a problem, but it's something he's done consistently. Not questioning. Very much, not questioning. Just... offering suggestions. So this isn't news. He's even made these kind of suggestions to the Metatron before, so not new.
At the end of S1, Crowley points out that he thinks the real 'big one' is coming "Heaven and Hell against humanity". Aziraphale has been sitting with that knowledge for years. He and Crowley have been dancing on the edge of disaster with Heaven and Hell turning up whenever they wanted, invading their space, demanding their time and compliance even though they are seen as rogue agents.
Everything in S2 is Aziraphale trying to maintain the veneer of everything is fine while still dealing with the terror of it all falling apart. The "or death" has been hanging over them the whole time. He saw the attempted execution. He's been told by Heaven that Crowley is under threat.
But the thing about Aziraphale is that he never ever does the predictable thing. Yes, he agreed to go back to Heaven. Yes, the Metatron leveraged Crowley's safety against him to guarantee it. The statement of "I don't want to go back to Heaven" turning around as soon as Crowley's safety is brought into it. Yes, he'll be the Archangel.
But this is the angel who gave away his flaming sword and lied to God's face. This is the angel who interfered in a bet between God and Satan to save the lives of three children. This is the angel who collaborated with a demon so they could have more down time. This is the angel who was swayed towards saving the world because he loves his life there and all his favourite foods and music and indulgences. This is the angel who flipped the bird and dive-bombed out of Heaven to possess a medium and fly a scooter to the end of the world.
Tumblr media
Whatever the Metatron thinks he's done by separating Crowley and Aziraphale, he has no idea what he's unleashed. Crowley's bee metaphor comes to mind here. Angels are fiercely protective of Heaven but once you're inside? Well, that's another story. Aziraphale may look like a bee, but he hasn't been a bee for a long, long time. They knew it at his trial.
And Aziraphale can't say he didn't warn them:
"So you're probably thinking if he can do this, I wonder what else he can do and very, very soon, you're all going to get the chance to find out"
Heaven's got a big storm coming and they let it right in through the front door.

I love David Tennant with my whole heart and think he is an absolutely phenomenal actor. Crowley is one of my favourite characters of all time.
But I just gotta take a moment to talk up Michael Sheen. He’s been great in everything Ive seen him in. But his acting choices as Aziraphale just make me go absolutely feral! He can communicate so fucking much without even saying a word. I was looking for art references for my next thing and I came across this picture from after the kiss
Tumblr media
HOLY SHIT DUDE! Holy fucking shit! One single frame and it says so so so so much! His performance is subtle and restrained and yet it is so incredibly powerful and clear! I am going insane over this man. Not to mention the absolute consistency that he (and likewise David) play their characters with. The mannerisms, the ways they carry themself, the range of expression. David does so much with the rest of his face since we can’t often see his eyes, meanwhile Michael’s eyes say absolutely everything and it is just absolutely phenomenal. These two in this show, especially in the second season, just give maybe some of the best performances I’ve seen in anything. It’s an absolute delight to watch and I cannot stop thinking about them both, but especially right now Michael Sheen lives rent free in my mind. I’ll say, once more, with the utmost affection and respect, HOLY SHIT.

I feel like as a fandom we talk a lot about Crowley trusting Aziraphale to borrow the Bentley, but we don't talk enough about Aziraphale trusting Crowley to look after the bookshop. This is the angel who will only sell a book when faced with no other alternative, whose bookshop is a collection of his favourite things accumulated over lifetimes, and he waits until he's in Edinburgh to ask Crowley not to sell any books. That's some big trust there.
Tumblr media
But of course he hasn't. Not one. It's possible one or two have got a little damaged in the 're-organising,' but hey, what's a demonic husband to do?

I need Neil Gaiman to know that Good Omens 2 made me feel emotions I haven't felt in nearly a decade.
When I heard there was going to be a Good Omens 2 I was looking forward to it, of course. I just wasn't expecting it do anything super special to my emotions. I was sure I'd enjoy it, though. I really enjoyed s1.
But, for the last few years, I watched shows and afterwards basically thought well, that was fun, and I quickly moved on and didn't think much about them. There was only about 3 shows in the last 5 years that had made me feel truly emotional and stayed on my mind to the point where I felt like I needed to engage in fandom for a while. (Good Omens 1 was one of them.)
I wasn't spoiled by the leak. I never even knew there was a leak. So I had no idea what was coming in s2. And oh boy...
See, I'd watched Our Flag Means Death, a show where you don't expect the lead characters to kiss, because, well, that never happens in these types of shows, right? And this is important because when they did kiss, it felt like a door that had been locked with just about all the high security locks in the world had suddenly, inexplicably, been opened. Something switched inside me. It took me months to understand what it was, but when I thought about Good Omens before s2 came out, I realized what it was.
I would never truly enjoy a bromance they're-only-queer/in love-by-your-own-interpreation story ever again. Stories where nothing is confirmed, just subtext that anyone who doesn't want to see it can easily deny and mock those who wish it was more.
While it was clear that Crowley and Aziraphale cared a lot about each other in s1, and were probably in love, it was still just a fun ship for fans to play with in fanfiction and fanart. Do they love each other? Oh sure. In what way? Well, that's up to interpretation. Ok, cool. But it's not quite Our Flag Means Death, is it?
Then I watched Good Omens 2. And from episode 1 I saw my favourite Angel and Demon duo love each other. And I was having the best time. I hadn't had such a good time watching a show in a long while. It was not only right up my alley, it was an alley I wasn't even aware was my alley until I saw it. I enjoyed seeing the old characters, the new characters. Oh, I was wonderful.
It was clear to me that, of course Crowley and Aziraphale love each other, are IN love with each other, showing it in their own way. And I wasn't expecting it to be THIS obvious.
And then when the kiss happened, I couldn't believe it. I covered my mouth with both hands and gasped and sat up straight in my seat. I had never expected it--the heartbreak it added to the already heartbreaking scene--it rewired something inside me.
It was like my emotions had been locked up in a stall like a horse for so, so long, and now the gate had been opened, the stable door kicked down, and the horse was running out onto the large pasture into the daylight, bucking and kicking up grass. Oh my god, I have to take a few minutes to process that entire 6 hour marathon of emotions.
And by a few minutes I meant a few days.
More than a few, actually.
I didn't need a kiss to understand how much they loved each other, but I did need the kiss to understand how intense and heartbreaking their separation is for them after everything.
But more than that, the kiss broke a barrier. They really did it, I thought. They really dared.
Aziraphale and Crowley aren't human males, no, but they're played by male actors. And that is significant. That makes the kiss significant. In the world we currently live in.
Weeks later, I'm still obsessed with the show, re-watching s1 and 2, reading the book again, listening to the audio drama. And I'm on tumblr, seeing people's posts and art to somehow sate my hunger for a s3 that doesn't exist (yet).
And I'm having a wonderful time.
