My Hot-Take/Controversial Ranking of Doctor Who Seasons (excluding specials bc my special order is really unhinged)
3 > 1 > 10 > 4 > 5 > 8 > 11 > 12 > 9 > 7b > 2 > 6 > 13 = 7a
Disclaimer: I have favorite episodes that come from every single season on this list, including 7a. For example, even though Season 6 is low on the list, the God Complex, Almost People/Rebel Flesh, and Impossible Astronaut are some of my favorite of the show. I do really love the Power of Three. These are based on season arc/average feeling per episode/rewatchability on a subjective level.
#doctor who#listen seasons 1 and three are basically perfect television for me#season 10 is one of the most fun of the show and bill is my second favorite companion and I love the twelve/missy arc#season 4 is full of banger after banger and journey's end slaps it just doesn't quite hit for me personally like seasons 1 3 and 10 do#season 5 has some episodes i don't like (victory of the daleks for example) but the fairytale vibes/beast below/amy's choice/big bang SLAP#Season 8 has some great episodes/good arc but i just really don't vibe with how cruel the Doctor is sometimes/Danny deserved better#Season 11 (other than fucking kerblam) i really enjoy! it has some weak writing in places but i love graham&ryan's arc & the smaller vibes#Season 12 is objectively better than season 11 but has weaker character arcs and some weaker episodes so eh#season 9 has one of the best finales in the show/some fun two-parters (i adore under the lake/before the flood) but the arcs feel off#7b is...fun & i like a lot of the episodes but i don't like the name/day/time of the doctor & it drags it down + clara's not fleshed out#season 2 is so good in places (cybermen 2-parter/school reunion/new earth) but has so many weak episodes & not as much character developmen#season 6...I love some episodes but I DESPISE the pregnancy arc/let's kill hitler/wedding of river song & how little agency Amy & river hav#season 13 is just...FINE. I enjoy some of the side characters (vinder bel karvanista) but the flux itself felt weirdly...boring? no emotion#(Jodie was SO GOOD in this season though btw)#and season 7a...asylum of the daleks dinosaurs on a spaceship & angels take manhattan are on my least favorite episodes list. like bottom 1#and I'm sorry but a town called mercy and power of three can't save that#amy and rory should have left with the god complex/christmas special and popped back like martha did in season 4#i said what i said#wow i really went off in the tags on this one#meta#rankings

Activate Kid Power: Thoughts - [Part 2] [SPOILERS]
Continuing from where Part 1 left off: As such, SPOILERS:
Non main/villain-adult/teen human characters with actual lines? In MY Wild Kratts episode? Yes, YES!
Also I can't wait for all the fan-theories, headcanons, and fics people make involving these snapshot cameos (that woman behind Nina, I'm 100% HCing as her older sister/cousin).
Once again, the animation in these new episodes can get really expressive and silly... and I like it! Martin's hair is so fucking funny.
ELLIE AND KATIE HOW I HAVE MISSED YOU (forgot who that blonde kid was for a second lol).
Oh yeah Jimmy has a subplot about crafting where he goes from crafting a teleporter handler to mini-homes for animals. It doesn't get that much focus in the episode but it's still well executed, (and it's admittedly a very funny joke).
PAISLEY HOW I HAVE MISSED YOU
I remember so many discussions about Paisley's wardrobe at the end of Our Blue and Green World, (my hot take, that outfit sucks lmao), but the general consensus was that it was NOT going to be her new look. It's been over a year since we last saw her so one thing I was really excited to see with her return is her new wardrobe. The screengrab quality is kinda ass but you can see there is a clear change that actually compliments the character! I like it!
The name change I DO NOT like. I remember joking about this with my friends, but I never actually thought they'd do it.
And yeah it makes thematic sense, change and all but still.... meh?
Then again, maybe the reason we haven't seen Paisley in over a year is because she was in court legally changing her surname to "Planter." Headcanon accepted!
This is exactly what I wanted to see out of Paisley's redemption. Her using her skills and ingenuity to help construct animal habitats and safe zones for them rather than knocking them down. As painfully rushed and underbaked as her arc was, it opened the door to a lot of possibilities and I greatly appreciate seeing them utilize this potential. This is a good character moment!
But also, where the fuck is Rex? One of the biggest plot holes the previous special left open was what happened to Rex? Is he still a villain? Did he change sides alongside Paisley? Fuck!
I so hope we get more moments between Paisley and Aviva. Between Aviva being the one to redeem Paisley, AND this exchange, they would mesh interestingly together. Also I was robbed of my Donita/Paisley team-up so I'm aiming for a Paisley/Aviva/Koki team-up as a rebound (also, new ship unlocked?)
We all knew that the Creature Powers would come back at the end of this special, but even so, it's just done right with all the Kid Power stuff established, and enough to make it feel satisfying and not a cop-out.
FINALLY they have all 3 of them do the split-screen activation!
Ok fine, so Jimmy didn't activate a Creature Power Suit, but he got his moment to shine without one! That's JUST as great!
Same thoughts as the previous song: It's a hard 5/10. It's very short and the brothers' singing vocals aren't that good, but it's evenly balanced out by Pure West's musical DNA as well as great visuals. It's.... slowly growing on me.
Also hi Gavin and Ronan! Ok fine so they didn't get to speak but they technically got to sing in the chorus so.... I'm happy.
They end this special off the same way they did the Earth Day special with the 2D bros breaking the 4th wall. Bringing shit full cirlce (minus Rex).
CONCLUSION:
Cons:
Part of me felt as though the random new Creature Powers introduced were as jarring as they were exciting. I may have to wait until future episodes to come out to be sure that this episode was indeed not aired out of order.
The Eucalyptus Suit. Who thought that was a good idea.
The song was mid. It's not a pro nor con, but it's a heavy 5/10 and it makes me really glad this show is not a musical.
The lack of Rex. If you can bring back Paisley and establish her character developmen since her redemption, you can go all the way and show Rex there with her.
Pros:
Stunning visuals and animation. This is what I want the theatrical movie to look like when it comes out because it is KILLER. Hell, I'd expect this episode's animation quality for a direct-to-video Wild Kratts movie.
I like how cohesive the plot is, how things gradually build up and progress through the story. It allows the heartwarming moments and message to come in full force. This episode definitely had enough time in the oven to bake.
One hour special with no villains: This was on my bingo card for Season 7 during the hiatus and I'm glad to actually have to mark that off. The conflict in this episode somewhat feels both high and low stakes, and in a natural way without the villains competing for the spotlight. It allows the core of the story to shine through and it further pushes the message that "Kid Power" can help animals and their habitats every day.
The kids did not activate any Creature Power Suits and thank fucking god for that.
The song wasn't terrible! Not pro nor con, but it's a heavy 5/10 and I genuinely hope that this song is the beginning of an uphill rise for musical content.
The kid characters were amazing. The recasts were seen from a mile away, but every single one of them was able to match the kid perfectly. I'm glad that the original VAs aging didn't stop them from getting their time to shine, especially since again, this was an episode that I have wanted to see for years.
Final Ranking: 9.5/10. A step up from Our Blue and Green World, and, coming right off the heels of Chimpanzee and Me, we have a new contender for one of the best episodes of the season thus far. Hell, I may actually be close to calling it the best episode of the entire series. I think this episode could've made for a really good season finale, especially with the experimental direction Season 7 takes. Even disregarding that... it's that good y'all.

Undead Unluck ch.223 thoughts
[Well...That Could Mean Anything...]
(Contents: immediate reactions - cancelation scare/renewed hope; speculation - story progression)
Please Say "Sike"
...I guess I should've seen that coming
If they can skip the three months leading up to the Quests, why not skip the month of the Quests?
Granted, my assumption was that the Master Rules wanted to fight and defeat the Union, that they were willing to interfere with their training but not to actually cheat at the Quests themselves, which seems to have been an accurate assumption to make
The fact that even Soul objected, demanding an explanation and even going so far as to attack Luna in retaliation, explicitly tells us that nobody involved wanted this outcome
The question this begs, though, is if Tozuka wanted this outcome
The overwhelming response to this chapter was definitely an anxious one. Folks were already super nervous because UU's been in the back of the magazine for the last few weeks while also being notably absent from a recent list of profitable manga that Shueisha put out recently, so seeing this chapter explicitly skip a bunch of content that had been built up for the last year or so was troubling to say the least
However! It also didn't take long for the fanbase to reevaluate the purpose of this direction
Hold the Line!
As Luna notes, Andy held off all ten Master Rules for eons. Of course she lost faith in them! Hell, Andy bodied Sick in less than a minute, and what few members of the Union that Language took out came back - it's pretty easy to see how the remaining fights were going to go, both from Luna's perspective and ours
And that's boring
While we all wanted to see the cast fight their natural enemies and learn more about themselves, awakening their souls and developing new ways to use their Rules, the truth is that was going to become formulaic sooner or later. Language's ambush on Nico and Ichico was a great way to keep us on our toes, but unless all of the Master Rules dropped in on the Roundtable Room at once, there wasn't really a good way to keep things fresh without it feeling like they were on a conveyer belt
There's also the fact that Ragnarok needs to be triggered by failure, so much like with the Four Seasons, the Union was either inevitably going to fail at beating one of the Master Rules or beating them was going to trigger Ragnarok anyway - both of which are outcomes to Quests that we've already seen. The Quests getting autoskipped though? That's a fun twist on the established pass option while also raising the stakes and giving both the cast and audience a scare
If UU weren't having such a rough go in the real world, we'd all be seeing this scene as a super cool twist, and I think that's what Tozuka intended it to be, but because we have reason to fear for its future, we can't help but take it as a bad sign
While Sun basically eating the Master Rules and beginning his assault on the Union certainly looks like a sign of the end, though, I think that this is meant to be the Master Rules all storming the Union at once like I suggested
Two Cakes
Many of you likely noticed that the rings that surround Sun have orbs with Roman numerals engraved on them, corresponding to the ranks of the Master Rules. This implies that the Master Rules haven't been absorbed, but rather sealed
If the Master Rules are still alive, they can still be battled, and likely will need to be defeated to weaken Sun. Using what was learned from the battle against Seal, the Union will likely use their souls to enter the orbs, giving us all of the match-ups and character development that we wanted to see while also moving at the breakneck pace that Tozuka seems to be so fond of
I imagine that someone may need to stay outside to hold off Sun while everyone's souls are separated from their bodies (if that's even an issue), so that will likely be Andy and Fuuko's job since they're ostensibly at their peak already and don't need any further development aside from the finale to their stories, though I could also see this being Chikara's big moment, holding off Sun all by himself while everyone else fights
All that said, this doesn't necessarily mean that we'll have the year and a half run that I projected last week; if Tozuka really is being forced to speedrun the story, it's possible that each Master Rule fight will only be one chapter and serve as a capstone for a different character/set of characters' arcs, but even then, it's extremely likely that the intention is to at least last until the next round of new manga, which will coincide with UU's fifth anniversary
Skipping the off weeks for Christmas and New Years, this gives us, at a conservative estimate, 16 more chapters to work with
To-Do List
Considering the number of events that still need to happen, I think 16 chapters could feasibly work if it looks a little something like this:
Establishing the formula - Chikara's capstone
Sick - capstone for Rip/Latla
Time - capstone for Shen/Mui and likely Feng
Justice - awakening of Unjustice/capstone for Julia?
War - capstone for Billy/Tatiana
Luck - likely a moment for Fuuko, though not her capstone
Change - capstone for Gina(+Sean?)
Death - likely a moment for Andy, not his capstone
Soul - group effort?
Sun - group effort, Ruin returns
Sun pt. 2 - capstone for Ruin
Sun pt. 3 - capstone for the Union
Final boss - Luna
The Heart
Luna defeated - capstone for Andy and Fuuko
Epilogue
This definitely would be a bit rushed, and I'd much rather each fight get a lot more time to breathe, but the main point I'm trying to make here is that it isn't impossible to tell a complete and satisfying story with the time remaining so long as the focus is on completing the character arcs of the cast members that have been established to be the most salient this entire time rather than trying to give everyone a slice of the pie
Tozuka's already made it clear that not every cast member is created equal, which is an unfortunate necessity in an ensemble cast that's under the constant threat of axe-ecution by Jump's editorial staff, so if things need to be pared down, this seems like a reasonable way to do it in my opinion, though again this could easily be doubled or even tripled depending on how badly Shueisha wants the series to still be producing content to coincide with the Winter special episode or possible season 2
Don't take this list at face value, though - remember, I'm just a reader, and while I've been right every now and again, I've also been wrong much more often, so my projected timeline is almost certainly off-base. I just hope it's wrong in the right direction!
Hell, my entire premise of needing to fight the Master Rules in the first place might be wrong! Not in the sense that they won't be present in the story anymore, but more in the sense that they won't be antagonists anymore
The Enemy of My Enemy
If you'll recall, the way that Andy escaped from Seal wasn't by taking down all of the Rules that Seal captured - it was by convincing them to fight back. With Luna having betrayed her creations and manipulated her counterpart, it really doesn't take much stretching of the imagination to see how the Master Rules might have a bit of a bone to pick with her
Therefore, instead of having a dedicated battle against each Master Rule, it's equally likely that there'll be a dedicated battle with each of them. This would let each of them show off their powers and personalities while also letting us build up the tension against Sun without simply rehashing the previous Ragnarok
More importantly, though, this would solidify one of the most major themes of the story: union. Every human enemy save for Ruin has become an ally, and we've had plenty of situations where UMAs have gone against God's orders and allied themselves with humanity, so having the most human UMAs do the same would be the perfect way to wrap up that narrative throughline
However, that again is still pretty predictable, almost rote with how the story has progressed so far, so I still expect one more wrinkle to come out of left field, regardless of how many chapters we have left:
The Union will lose
Failstate
The biggest question mark hanging over this entire series, at least for me, is what Sun and Luna's goals are
What is the world supposed to look like after the game ends? If Luna loses the bet and humanity can't reach the Gods, what's meant to happen? Will humanity be wiped out, will the Rules become harsher on them, what?
To truly understand the weight of the threat, of what the Union is trying to prevent, we need to be shown at least a glimpse of it, so even if Time or Soul or the Heart or whoever will immediately undo the damage, the Union needs to see what they're fighting for
Bonus points if that's the moment that reforms Ruin - that he sees how much worse everything is with humanity's loss, how ruined the world will be, and he decides then and there that he needs to ensure it remains unruined
Again, though, Tozuka has always proven to be a few steps ahead of me, so even if I have the basic ideas, the final product surely won't look much of anything like what I'm suggesting, and will surely be better than anything I can imagine
Looking Forward
In a perfect world, Tozuka would be able to take as much time as he wants to flesh out every single character and backstory and battle to his heart's content, but that's just wishful thinking. The undeniable truth is that Tozuka is working in the most cutthroat company in an already cutthroat industry, so naturally not everything can or will go to plan
However, even under those conditions, Tozuka has managed to tell a consistently engaging and beautiful story that has served as an inspiration to many of us for the past nearly five years. As I've said a thousand times now, we need to have faith that Tozuka is going to continue to do his best to deliver a story that we'll love, even if we don't agree with every choice he makes for it
He certainly doesn't want us to read each chapter filled with fear and trepidation; he wants us to read them with joy and wonder, like we always have! Whether Tozuka decided that this was the best time to end it or Jump forced it on him, whether UU will last for four more months or four more years, the single most important thing that we can do is enjoy what Tozuka has to offer. That's all he's ever wanted from us, and it's what this series has taught me to do
So come on, you do it too:
Until next time, let's enjoy life!

The season one finale of The Agency ends with Michael Fassbender’s Martian in nearly the same emotional space as he was when the show began: longing to be reunited with Dr. Samia Zahir (Jodie Turner-Smith), the Sudanese anthropology professor he fell in love with while stationed as a CIA operative in Ethiopia.
However, their inability to be together is no longer just a matter of distance and duty to one’s country, as it once was when Martian ended their relationship upon returning to his post in London to resume life under the cover of Paul Lewis. It’s now one of life and death, as Martian’s failed attempt to recruit Samia to the CIA has not only put her life in danger but also his own when he agrees to become a double agent for the U.K.’s Secret Intelligence Service in an attempt to save her.
The episode, aptly titled, “Overtaken by Events,” is an action-packed ending to a slow burn of an inaugural season that saw the CIA nab a major win by successfully executing Operation Felix and facilitating the return of Coyote (Alex Reznik), an agent who was held for ransom by a Russian mercenary group when his cover was blown in Belarus. Daniela “Danny” Ruiz Morata (Saura Lightfoot-Leon) also completed part one of her mission to uncover Iranian nuclear engineers, landing in Tehran, Iran, with her professor (Reza Brojerdi) where she’ll continue to work undercover. And Martian, who spent the season going rogue to satisfy his own personal interests, must now exist in a world where he ultimately answers to senior MI6 official James Richardson (Hugh Bonneville), who exploits his desperation for Samia and manipulates him into being his mole.
“This is a world where everybody’s playing chess against everybody else,” says John-Henry Butterworth, who co-created the Showtime espionage thriller, which is based on the French series Le Bureau des Légendes, with brother Jez Butterworth. “Martian treats [James] as a friend and asks him for a favor, and instantly this man weaponizes it and uses it against him. He sees Martian having a personal vulnerability and he uses it as a professional weakness and suddenly he’s on him, he’s controlling him and he owns him, and Martian has to try and get out of that trap in order to survive.”
Below, the Butterworths talk with The Hollywood Reporter about Martian’s decision to betray his country and what it symbolizes. They also dive into plot points for season two, following the show’s early renewal, including whether they’ll explore the global issues currently unfolding with the incoming U.S. administration.
***
Going back to the early stages of developmen, why did you choose to set the intelligence agency in London versus the U.S.?
JEZ Originally it was going to be in Italy.
JOHN-HENRY It was always about a foreign station house, so it was always not going to be in the U.S.
JEZ It was the U.S. abroad, and so we looked around for where it could be, and, of course, looked everywhere except on our own doorstep, and then discovered that it felt like the best place to set it for a whole bunch of reasons. One of them was that it would happen on our doorstep (laughs), but the main thing was this is based on a French original and when you’re looking for events and locales, it felt like it came into focus when we looked at it through a London lens.
One of the big changes from Le Bureau was bringing the global issues The Agency deals with into the present day. Were there any other major changes you made from the original in season one?
JOHN-HENRY There’s a huge, huge change geopolitically if you’re writing about America instead of France. The stakes are much greater. The effects that America can have, the shadow they have and the different theaters they’re interested in are much greater. So it becomes a very different story and it was that opportunity to write about places that were in the news right now. Like Ukraine and places that I felt quite strongly should be in the news and weren’t being covered enough in the Western news, like what’s going on in Sudan, that I think that we are seeing more coverage of now, but certainly when we sat down to write this wasn’t on the front page.
In season two, you’re heading into Iran where Danny’s journey as a new officer will continue. What might you explore there?
JOHN-HENRY She’s a really interesting character. Saura, the actress who’s playing her, is superb, an enormously talented young actor and the part has kind of been grown around that bit of casting.
JEZ It’s great fun, isn’t it, when somebody does it better than you imagined? And by the way, this is happening across the board. We are spoiled by our fellow storytellers. It just seems ridiculous when you think about it. You’re writing scenes for Jeffrey Wright, you’re writing scenes for Richard Gere, you’re writing scenes for Jodie and she’s bringing stuff to it that is so much greater than we imagined. We’ve had that experience before, but I don’t think to this intense and concentrated across-the-board degree. Sometimes, if you’re writing a film, you encounter that. But you never get the chance to revisit it. We’re already into the thick of writing season two, and it’s absolutely been informed by the talents and the magic that we’ve been presented with in season one.
In episode seven, Dr. Blake (Harriet Sansom Harris) suggests Naomi (Katherine Waterston) has romantic feelings for Martian that have blinded her ability to accurately assess his actions. Is she right?
JOHN-HENRY I think there’s a sense that a character like this in this environment has in different ways charmed and manipulated and created an attachment that is controlling with almost everyone he comes into contact with. Some of it is conscious and some of it is unconscious, and I’m fascinated by writing those types of characters. I think you keep changing your mind about what is and isn’t intentional with Martian. What’s an accident? What’s him playing the notes like a puppet master, what’s him just being able to move on the fly really fast and change his direction? I think that’s a fascinating question of who has fallen for him or what he’s doing and, is it real? I think that’s what’s at stake between him and Samia for the whole of their relationship: is what they experience the real thing?
JEZ That’s really at the heart of any good espionage, isn’t it? It’s the question mark of, did you mean what you just said or are you just saying what you just said? Is that truth or is that for effect? How am I being manipulated here? And that’s why people come to stories. I think stories are puzzles, the way you learn to spot lies, and spotting lies is almost the most essential tool you need in life, and it’s the hardest.
What does it say then that Samia wasn’t willing to betray her country to save her relationship with Martian, but he ultimately agrees to in the finale?
JOHN-HENRY I think there’s a purity to their relationship that she is the torch bearer for and that he spends, certainly most of the early stages of this story, trying to live up to and trying to bear the responsibility for in an honest way. And he’s not used to it. He’s not been living an honest life, he’s not been living a whole life, and he suddenly encounters this person who is, and it changes him.
JEZ This story equates betrayal of your country with becoming human. If you are willing to do that, you are willing to recognize the human in yourself. That’s what it kpresents you with. And then it throws up all the complications of that because at that point, your humanity is costing everybody around you and your country. So it’s a really, really phenomenal ambiguity where you can position drama endlessly.
Is Samia dead, as Osman (Kurt Egyiawan) claims in episode nine?
JOHN-HENRY I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone.
Henry (Jeffrey Wright) can sense Martian’s personal life is going off the rails a bit but he also gives him a lot of rope with which he somewhat hangs himself.
JOHN-HENRY It’s such a great relationship. I love the way that it develops. I love that it’s got deep roots and you sense that there’s a history between these men and that at some point [Martian’s] been a protégé of Henry’s and he’s somebody who’s taken him under his wing and taught him the ropes of this world. Then they start to come into conflict, and, as the story goes into season two, there’s more of an antagonism there. For much of season two, Henry’s actually hunting for him, trying to prove what’s happened towards the end of season one actually did happen. And it’s just another way of showing this conflict that Martin has running through his character like Brighton Rock.
I was having an early conversation with Michael Fassbender and I said as a sort of throwaway phrase that he loves his country, this is why Martian’s doing what he’s doing, and Michael just blinked and went, “but he met something he loved more,” and I suddenly felt goosebumps go up the back of my thing as he understood this on such a deep level that that’s what this story is about. I think Henry’s character sits there to remind you of the Martian who loved his country, that that’s where he comes from because Henry still will do anything for the agents. He is as pure as it gets in terms of his commitment to what’s going on and his self-sacrifice for the greater good. And what he starts to see in Martian is someone who maybe has a personal agenda that conflicts with that. That’s something you’re not allowed in the CIA.
That’s an important perspective because with each passing episode, I thought more and more, who would want to do this for a living in real life?
JOHN-HENRY That was one of our intentions. There is a genre out there, which is the spy movie or the spy show, and the second you meet real spies and real people who work in intelligence, you realize it bears no relation. We’ve got an advisor on this who actually was in the CIA for a while, and we were laughing about this. He’s like, “what is the spy genre?” There isn’t one really, because as soon as you’re driving a tank through Moscow with everybody chasing you, like happens in Bond films, you’re not a spy anymore. I don’t know what it’s called, but it’s not this. By its very nature, it’s secret and it’s quiet and it’s subterfuge, it’s second intentions, and trying to portray that is fascinating to me. Trying to portray the human cost to them. This is what they’re so good at, this group of actors, showing you that all of these other things that you’ve seen, there’s a different thing going on out there. And as we move into this period where all these countries that we are part of and are frightened of are all in conflict with one another, there is a group of men and women who are out there who are prepared for reasons I fully don’t understand to do this.
You said you’ve written most of season two already. Do you plan to implement aspects of what’s presently happening with the new U.S. administration into that?
JEZ We’re offset by a couple of years.
JOHN-HENRY There’s an offset, but the forces that have come to create what’s just happened there, it’s a definite factor. I think it’s dangerous to try to guess what’s going to happen next in the world with a show as fast as we’re doing it; it still takes a while to come out and I don’t think we’re trying to look into any crystal balls and work out what’s happening. It’s been enormously gratifying to see that the work that we did do hasn’t been superannuated or made inaccurate. I think that’s the challenge with writing a show that’s set in the last five minutes.
But I think it’s fascinating what’s happening in America at the moment. It’s going to have a big bearing on everything. I grew up in a period in the ’90s and, internationally speaking, it was quite boring. The golden age of espionage that John Harry wrote about was over around 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down. But we’re entering another golden era. Espionage now is more important than ever. I thought that human espionage was going to stop when technology caught up with everybody. But I think that being able to disappear off a grid where everyone’s under surveillance, got it in their pocket, is now the most valuable thing in the world.
Have you heard any feedback from Éric Rochant, the creator of the original series, or anyone else who worked on it?
JOHN-HENRY I met the producers in London, and it was nerve-wracking that he was going to be watching it because there’s a responsibility to the original show, which we both thought was wonderful and we wanted to live up to, and he was delighted.
JEZ I sat next to him at the premiere in New York and the lights came down and he did not double his fist and punch me in the face. That was a relief.

I think it's time. I'm ready. Well... kinda. Yakuza 4 starting in like an hour or two! Just gonna clean a little bit and have a snack first. Thoughts and predictions under the Read more!
Now... expectations and/or preconceptions. I, uhhh, really don't have any? Usually there's at least some mentions of aspects of other games in playthroughs of previous games. For example: on a video of a challenge run of Yakuza 0 where every enemy had 10x amount of health, I kept seeing comments like "the smallest yakuza 3 health bar" and "they put Yakuza 3 in yakuza 0" etc. That kind of stuff. I usually tend to avoid comment sections, but sometimes temptation wins 😭
I haven't seen anything like the above about Yakuza 4. In fact, I have seen NOTHING about the game anywhere. I'm going in 100% blind.
Now, what do I think/hope might happen, based on my experience with 0-3?
-Maybe we start in Okinawa since that's where 3 ended? I hope we do, I wanna see the kids!!
-I feel like we have "re-arrived" in Kamurocho at the early parts of every game besides 0. Even in Kiwami 1, we make a return like that after Kiryu's 10-year stint in the joint. So we will probably be going back there again, after starting somewhere else. I'd be surprised if we start in Kamurocho.
-A small time skip. At least a year, maybe 5 max. time seems to always move on between games. I'm gonna guess... 2 years.
-Majima will be there. He's everywhere, after all. I hope he gets a bigger role than in 3, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up. Same with Daigo, to be honest.
-Hoping for more lore on Kiryu's childhood/adolescence. I feel like we still know relatively little about his time in Sunflower and even less about his teen years before he joined the Yakuza.
-Absolutely NO clue at all about who we'll fight and why. The triad guys are dead now so they probably won't return at least?
-Even though I feel like Joji will be in the Side-Characters-We-No-Longer-Need Void™, maybe we'll see him? 👉🏻👈🏻
-MY KING NISHIDA BETTER BE IN THE GAME or the game will get a 0/10 from me (/j but only slightly)
-I hope Haruka gets some developmen, maybe in terms of her thinking about her future. We got a little bit of that in Kiwami 2 and I want more.

Bringing manufacturing back to America, one fab lab at a time
New Post has been published on https://sunalei.org/news/bringing-manufacturing-back-to-america-one-fab-lab-at-a-time/
Bringing manufacturing back to America, one fab lab at a time

Reindustrializing America will require action from not only businesses but also a new wave of people that have the skills, experience, and drive to make things. While many efforts in this area have focused on top-down education and manufacturing initiatives, an organic, grassroots movement has been inspiring a new generation of makers across America for the last 20 years.
The first fab lab was started in 2002 by MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA). To teach students to use the digital fabrication research facility, CBA’s leaders began teaching a rapid-prototyping class called MAS.863 (How To Make (almost) Anything). In response to overwhelming demand, CBA collaborated with civil rights activist and MIT adjunct professor Mel King to create a community-scale version of the lab, integrating tools for 3D printing and scanning, laser cutting, precision and large-format machining, molding and casting, and surface-mount electronics, as well as design software.
That was supposed to be the end of the story; they didn’t expect a maker movement. Then another community reached out to get help building their own fab lab. Then another. Today there are hundreds of U.S. fab labs, in nearly every state, in locations ranging from community college campuses to Main Street. The fab labs offer open access to tools and software, as well as education, training, and community to people from all backgrounds.
“In the fab labs you can make almost anything,” says Professor and CBA Director Neil Gershenfeld. “That doesn’t mean everybody will make everything, but they can make things for themselves and their communities. The success of the fab labs suggests the real way to bring manufacturing back to America is not as it was. This is a different notion of agile, just-in-time manufacturing that’s personalized, distributed, and doesn’t have a sharp boundary between producer and consumer.”
Communities of makers
A fab lab opened at Florida A&M University about a year ago, but it didn’t take long for faculty and staff to notice its impact on their students. Denaria Pringley, an elementary education teacher with no experience in STEM, first came to the lab as part of a class requirement. That’s when she realized she could build her own guitar. In a pattern that has repeated itself across the country, Pringley began coming to the lab on nights and weekends, 3D-printing the body of the guitar, drilling together the neck, sanding and polishing the finish, laser engraving pick guards, and stringing everything together. Today, she works in the fab lab and knows how to run every machine in the space.
“Her entire disposition transformed through the fab lab,” says FAMU Dean of Education Sarah Price. “Every day, students make something new. There’s so much creativity going on in the lab it astounds me.”
Gershenfeld says describing how the fab labs work is a bit like describing how the internet works. At a high level, fab labs are spaces to play, create, learn, mentor, and invent. As they started replicating, Gershenfeld and his colleague Sherry Lassiter started the Fab Foundation, a nonprofit that provides operational, technical, and logistical assistance to labs. Last year, The Boston Globe called the global network of thousands of fab labs one of MIT’s most influential contributions of the last 25 years.
Some fab labs are housed in colleges. Others are funded by local governments, businesses, or through donations. Even fab labs operated in part by colleges can be open to anyone, and many of those fab labs partner with surrounding K-12 schools and continuing education programs.
Increasingly, corporate social responsibility programs are investing in fab labs, giving their communities spaces for STEM education, workforce development, and economic development. For instance, Chevron supported the startup of the fab lab at FAMU. Lassiter, the president of the Fab Foundation, notes, “Fab labs have evolved to become community anchor organizations, building strong social connections and resilience in addition to developing technical skills and providing public access to manufacturing capabilities.”
“We’re a community resource,” says Eric Saliim, who serves as a program manager at the fab lab housed in North Carolina Central University. “We have no restrictions for how you can use our fab lab. People make everything from art to car parts, products for their home, fashion accessories, you name it.”
Many fab lab instructors say the labs are a powerful way to make abstract concepts real and spark student interest in STEM subjects.
“More schools should be using fab labs to get kids interested in computer science and coding,” says Scott Simenson, former director of the fab lab at Century College in Minnesota. “This world is going to get a lot more digitally sophisticated, and we need a workforce that’s not only highly trained but also educated around subjects like computer science and artificial intelligence.”
Minnesota’s Century College opened its fab lab in 2004 amid years of declining enrollment in its engineering and design programs.
“It’s a great bridge between the theoretical and the applied,” Simenson explains. “Frankly, it helped a lot of engineering students who were disgruntled because they felt like they didn’t get to make enough things with their hands.”
The fab lab has since helped support the creation of Century College programs in digital and additive manufacturing, welding, and bioprinting.
“Working in fab labs establishes a growth mindset for our community as well as our students,” says Kelly Zelesnik, the dean of Lorain County Community College in Ohio. “Students are so under-the-gun to get it right and the grade that they lose sight of the learning. But when they’re in the fab lab, they’re iterating, because nothing ever works the first time.”
In addition to offering access to equipment and education, fab labs foster education, mentorship, and innovation. Businesses often use local fab labs to make prototypes or test new products. Students have started businesses around their art and fashion creations.
Rick Pollack was a software entrepreneur and frequent visitor to the fab lab at Lorain County Community College. Pollack became fascinated with 3D printers and eventually started the additive manufacturing company MakerGear after months of tinkering with the machines in the lab in 2009. MakerGear quickly became one of the most popular producers of 3D printers in the country.
“Everyone wants to talk about innovation with STEM education and business incubation,” Gershenfeld says. “This is delivering on that by filling in the missing scaffolding: the means of production.”
Manufacturing reimagined
Many fab labs begin with tiny spaces in forgotten corners of buildings and campuses. Over time, they attract a motley crew of people that have often struggled in structured, hierarchical classroom settings. Eventually, they become hubs for people of all backgrounds driven by making.
“Fab labs provide access to tools, but what’s really driving their success is the culture of peer-to-peer, project-based learning and production,” Gershenfeld says. “Fab labs don’t separate basic and applied work, short- and long-term goals, play and problem solving. The labs are a very bottom-up distribution of the culture at MIT.”
While the local maker movement won’t replace mass manufacturing, Gershenfeld says that mass manufacturing produces goods for consumers who all want the same thing, while local production can make more interesting things that differ for individuals.
Moreover, Gershenfeld doesn’t believe you can measure the impact of fab labs by looking only at the things produced.
“A significant part of the benefit of these labs is the act of making itself,” he says. “For instance, a fab lab in Detroit led by Blair Evans worked with at-risk youth, delivering better life outcomes than conventional social services. These labs attract interest and then build skills and communities, and so along with the things that get made, the community-building, the knowledge, the connecting, is all as important as the immediate economic impact.”

Sometimes I wonder wyd now. Still treating people like ass, or somehow turning a new leaf. 4 months running btw. Me and Choskey with Red. I know Red does a lot for me, I just wish he had time to do anything other than work that I actually enjoyed. His style of gameplay when it comes to pvp games is head into danger and die also. Borderlands go off and die. Sea of thieves spend 2 hours burning the boat when I've been ready to hop off for the last 10 minutes. For a while all the scat jokes which were kinda gross. Constantly spamming planetside which feels like face planting into a train constantly.
It used to be that I would be nothing without the whuffitude, without the antics we've built up, but they relied entirely on each other to function. My affectionate interactions were not appropriate elsewhere ever and that was a good 80% of it along with Red being able to follow up on it but no one else would be able to. So I couldn't really use it socially until I got the cat avatar. And developed new interactions based on being cute even without Red being there.
I've been extremely dependent on Red. He spoils me hard, and does things or gets stuff for me on top of that and there's little I could do to equal it. But despite that it's hard to do stuff together. He's a workaholic. He's not much of a gamer. And when he does play I used to have trouble making time to use the bathroom or saying I want to do something else. Vrchat built up my confidence quite a bit. I'm not afraid to grab a soda or hop to the bathroom midgame if I have to. I am able to communicate my needs quite easily now. And I am able to socialize easily as well. At least more easily than I used to by a lot.
Red in all of that hardly ever joined us and even when he was in vr he was usually doing something who knows what. Somewhere along the way Red's capacity for social interaction greatly diminished, to the point it is almost non-existent. He still had more interaction than I did back then, minus my twitter problems. And that also played a huge role in me engaging in it in the first place. When I was frustrated about how socially absent my life was, I expressed it on Twitter one way or another.
I have no such needs now. Ever since vrchat my mood improved dramatically. My social life improved dramatically. And now my love life too. People outside my life might not understand or give a rat's ass what my problems are or what I was lacking, but I understand it quite deeply now. With time and with enough time to really think about it, plus the experiences that improved what I needed the most for a good long while now, *I* understand.
And I am no longer a tough act to follow either. I know how to express my thoughts and feelings without "weaving an illusion" or not saying what I mean. Because such a tool never served me well. All it ever did was get me hurt.
One important thing to consider is I took such retweets and subtexts seriously. There was always that few things telling me what I should be doing and I held myself to that standard thinking you were serious about it. Though perhaps in reality you didn't care nearly as much as I did about such things. Failure on such volatile information that could change at any moment to suit whatever serves you at the time is not surprising and I should've dropped you like a fucking glass the moment it started.
I learned how to protect myself from people like you. To the point I would be able to completely end any such interaction the moment the first flags appear, but it seems like I won't be needing it. I have the toughest shell made of steel and it won't get so much as a scratch. And yet the fact that I ever needed it in the first place always has me putting on more and more armor to the point I'm a living fortress. That is how trauma works in a nutshell. You develop all these protections obsessively to what once gave you a fight or flight response even when the trigger for it is long gone.
And yet it is through the development of these protections that I am able to stand so proudly now. Looking at my posts overall, even the angry ones and seeing how much sense they make now is oddly satisfying. And evident of the progress I made on myself. I know how whiny, self destructive, emotional and dramatic I was back in 2020, but every year I walk away from that I grow, and I have grown incredibly strong. I do enjoy my happy endings and even when it was seemingly made impossible for me by people that hated me so much they were doing the digital equivalent of breaking into my house, I still found mine anyway.
This art, and my vrc avatar, makes me realize how important it is to have a new look when getting over such moments. It makes me feel how far I've come. I am a being heavily susceptible to spite. But I can still turn it into something beautiful and meaningful.

Market Driver:
Increasing Military Expenditure to Augment Growth
The increasing terrorist activities, geopolitical tensions, and cross border conflicts around the world can have an excellent impact on the market during the forecast period. The rising military spending will spur opportunities for the market in the forthcoming years. According to SIPRI, the United States, China, India, Russia, and Saudi Arabia's defense budget was USD 732 billion, USD 261 billion, USD 71.1 billion, USD 65.1 billion, and USD 61.9 billion, respectively. Furthermore, the expansion of military forces in developing nations will have a tremendous impact on the demand for bulletproof vests. For instance, in 2020, the number of active military personnel in China, India, the U.S., and North Korea were 21,83,000, 14,44,000, 14,00,000, and 12,80,000, respectively. Hence, the increasing number of army personnel can contribute positively to the bulletproof vest market growth.
Delayed Deliveries of Products to Hamper Business amid Coronavirus
COVID-19 pandemic had a severe impact on the global market. The reduced demand and delayed deliveries of products have dramatically affected the scenario of the industry. The postponement in the production of defense products is expected to retard the development of the market. For instance, the department of Indian Military Affairs asked all of its armed forces to hold their capital acquisitions because of budget cuts due to the effect of COVID-19. Moreover, South Korea planned to cut USD 245 million from the country’s defense budget. Hence, declined defense budget and halt on production activities will hinder the market amid coronavirus.
Regional Analysis:
Growing Terrorism to Stimulate Growth in Asia Pacific
The market in Asia-Pacific is expected to hold the largest bulletproof vest market share during the forecast period owing to political conflicts and cross-border issues. The growing terrorism in the Asian countries and increasing investments in next-generation body armors will aid growth in the region. For instance, in 2018, the Indian Army signed a worth of USD 98.31 million with SMPP Private Limited to procure 1,38,138 bulletproof jackets. Europe is expected to account for the largest share due to the presence of key players such as EnGarde Body Armor, VestGuard UK Ltd., MARS Armor, and others. The increasing spending by military forces and law enforcement agencies will contribute significantly to the market's growth. For instance, in 2018, Rheinmetall AG signed a three-year contract worth USD 11 million with the German police to supply ballistic inserts for protective vests.
Key Development:
April 2020: planarTECH, a global leader in providing process and analytical equipment based in the UK, signed a contract with IDEATI, a Thailand based company for distributing its 2AM line of graphene-enhanced bullet-proof vest and ballistic plate products for body armor.
