I don’t regret picking up crochet just because it’s hard to monetize, that does in fact make it easier for me not to take commissions and blow out my arms again and monetizing this hobby was never the point, but it does tend towards unfortunate when I consider doing a commission and price what my work’s actually worth, and the person winces and I go “yeah no totally fair, I get you, that is a lot of money for a hat or a tiny lion, no hard feelings whatsoever.”

Which is why I tend to only do gifts or donations, because I can have discretion and they can have whatever I feel like making on my timeframe and no one needs to actually think about the monetary value in terms of hours worked, which alone is more than most people are willing to pay for anything at that size.
