tma gamer headcanons

i do have very strong Gamer Headcanons for TMA

Jon: PC gamer, has been for ages, does not know how to hold a controller, has zero twitch reflexes. however, he loves long Paradox grand strategy games. his Stellaris games go on for a week each, and he has very strong emotions about his aliens.

he fucking loves Crusader Kings. you don't understand. he loves it. he loves every shitty bastardman he has to direct through ruling. he mutters to himself constantly whenever his ruler makes a stupid fucking decision, "Of course that's what you decided you stupid catholic bastard." he's tanked more than one game trying to impose matriarchal succession. he's really quite bad at being an immoral person.

if you asked him if he's a gamer, he would instinctively shake his head. but if you asked his his favorite game, he would undoubtedly say Planescape Torment. it made him cry multiple times.

Martin: this bithc is a nintendo boy are you even kidding.

No but like everything with Martin K Blackwood, It's A Class Thing. Martin never owned a computer that could run games until he got a work laptop from the Institute, and he never dared put anything like a videos game onto that! someone would know! (later, in S3, he stops giving a shit about this and pirates ROMs and plays on an emulator during office hours. it's not like he can be fired.)

But growing up, he had one of those heavy brick Game Boys, and loved it. and honestly has always been a handheld gamer. picking up an old GBA and then a DSi and then a 3DS from the consignment shops has always been easier than keeping up with the current Console Wars. and Nintendo's lil carts are more reliable than disc-based games. also you could pick up like 5 games for 15 quid at the right shop, it's a steal.

so he's played all the Zeldas and Pokemons and if Yoshi is in it he played it. he's never had the patience for a long game like a Chrono Trigger, but he's still pretty avid, playing something every night to wind down for bed.

the first time he bought a new handheld instead of secondhand was a coral pink Switch Lite, and even for that he had to wrestle with his Spending Money guilt for like three days beforehand. but he deserved it, and it was adorable.

he has never played a video game on an actual TV.

his favorite game is Animal Crossing New Leaf because when he was suuuuuuuuper fucking lonely, it always helped to check in with his villagers and talk to them. sometimes the only birthday celebrations he got were in that game, okay.

Daisy: she has never played a video game before smart phones became a thing, but boy howdy after that? she's beaten every casual game that you think is unbeatable.

she beat all +9000 levels of Candy Crush. for real. and she has unlocked every cat and every toy in Neko Atsume. she's a serial completionist; she finishes the game she's on, then uninstalls it and gets another, and completes that one.

she is the most likely to have tried Fortnite but has never won a match.

she calls her games "apps" and would not identify as a gamer.

those are the ones i have a strong opinion on

except maybe. maybe. sasha would be a speedrunner. PC games only. maybe.

also i think unfortunately Tim doesn't Get games and thinks they're for kids. he is, out of the entire cast, least likely to be a Gamer.
