yooo what are you hyperfixating on lately if anything? wanna info dump about something? what's on your mind?
my latest hyperfixation is youtube videos that analyse interrogation tapes. I saw an interesting one on Nicholas Cruz and his attempts at looking mentally ill in order to get a lesser sentence on the channel JCS Criminal Psychology, if anyone is interested. its fascinating to see the tactics the interrogators employ on the people theyre interrogating. I saw another one called "guilty until proven innocent" on the same channel, and it really highlighted how abusive the tactics are sometimes. when theyre used against someone we know is guilty of something awful, its very easy to ignore how cruel the treatment is, but when you see them used on someone you know is innocent, you can see how psychologically damaging and abusive it is. JCS actually inspired a whole genre so I've been going down that rabbit hole. it's really fascinating. I actually wanted to be a criminologist at one point, but decided it wasn't for me professionally, so I research it in my spare time. im actually a massive true crime junkie. check out Eleanor Neale on youtube, shes brilliant. my favourite thing about her videos is how she describes the victims of the crimes to us. we often just see the people as just the victims of x killer, and fixate on the perpetrator, but Eleanor brings our attention back to the victims and the people they were and reminds us that they were real people with lives and families and hopes and goals and dreams and problems and futures. I like how she tells us about them.
Explore With Us are a good channel too, as is Shrouded Hand (who i mentioned in my first walking vlog, actually) and mrballen, although those channels don't just focus on true crime, its also just weird happenings and stuff. I also enjoy binge watching Nuke's Top 5 videos and yelling about how the videos are faked or if there could be something more to them.
I also recently got into channels that narrate creepypastas. I like sticking them on while I clean or do art. we make fun of creepypastas but honestly some of them are genuinely creepy with very interesting concepts. there was 1 I listened to where the creature at the end wasn't actually scary, he was awesome, but the fear the main character was feeling made you afraid of the creature. its an interesting concept in horror, not to have the creature be scary, but using the idea and feeling of fear itself to create a creepy atmosphere. honestly, most of my youtube watching is horror related, paranormal related, true crime and then random commentary on stuff.
whew, sorry for the massive reply. thanks for listening to (or reading) my stream of consciousness. I really recommend those channels if youre into that stuff. I binged all of mrballens videos and now I have no more of his videos to watch...sigh
