You know when you're watching a fun little slice of life epilogue and you're like woow look how happy they are and how much they've grown and you're relating that to where you are in your own life and how you have and can continue to have that kind of happiness and then it ends with a guy getting his throat slit on live tv and the name of their ex friend who they betrayed carved into his chest and then you're like ...what the fuck

SPOILERS FOR JRWI PD UP TO S2 EP34. LIKE SERIOUSLY MEGA SPOILERS
I was talking about this a while ago, but I never did make a very coherent post about it so:
I think there's a lot to say about the way that the idea of "doing things for the greater good" is thrown around a lot in season 2 between PD and Xavier + Cantrip + Alan.
In episode 18, during the Belltech heist, Alan ends up killing multiple people because he does not understand what he is doing. When the main trio expresses concerns about this, Cantrip and Xavier hold firm that they're doing things for the greater good-- saving more people than Alan could have ever killed.
Then, during episodes 31-33, William does All Of That. Everybody knows this. He essentially tortures a guy and kills another person, for what he is told is the greater good.
I think there's something so interesting to point out there-- how during both significant events at Belltech, the sentiment of things done for the greater good is there. However, the roles get reversed; the first time, Xavier, Cantrip, and Alan are in control. They are not the ones getting hurt. And during the greyscale arc, everything is flipped-- they are the ones being chased, hunted, sliced apart. The narrative scales are tipped, so to say, in order to make one death (Cantrip's) so much more impactful than the 30 or more people who died in the Belltech heist.
And when the PD trio is split during the greyscale arc, alongside all the other chaos going on then, there is no longer any strong moral platform to stand on, no firm opposition to killing and hurting people like that. (Of course, the death isn't intentional on William's behalf, we don't know if it certainly was death, etc etc.)
When Dakota is trying to figure things out on his own, he thinks to himself-- What would William do?
But at the same time, William can only think-- What would Dakota think about what I've done?

Augh. Thinking about Vyncent Sol. Thinking about how everything he does, he does for William and Dakota. He's shifted his worldview. He's lept into danger. He lept out a window to make William feel better! He's been in Prime for what like. Two years? And in that time he's had to adjust to a whole new culture, new money, more people, new technology, a new way of doing EVERYTHING
And he still left his home behind.
Bc Dakota and William are his family.
Despite everything he sacrificed trying to go home despite everything that's so much more difficult on Prime despite occasionally being treated terribly for not knowing how things work. He sticks through it. For Dakota and William. Bc they're family. And after everything that happened at Belltech- they're still family. Vyncent will do ANYTHING for the people he cares for.
I just. God. Fuck. Vyncent Sol man,,,,

thoughts about the prime defenders friendship and their dynamic with each other? :>
Okay honestly?? I think all of the PD characters have such good chemistry with each other- Like not romantically, but their relationships are so complex. Like you look at one of them, and how they act and treat others, and their moral compass and their goals, and it's like wow!! I think across all of the jrwi campaigns, the prime defenders have the most in-depth and most thought out interactions. Like you can tell that everyone loved their characters so much, and put tons of time and effort into them.
As a Dakota fan, I fucking love how he treats those around him. I love how somehow, the most battle hungry prime defender, the local idiot, is so incredibly smart and mature. The way he handles situations may be naive- But they way he handles his friends is so loving. During the shit show of belltech, the way he said that yes, I'm upset, but you guys are my friends, and i care about you, and I can see you are going through something, and we will talk later when you are okay. Like Dakota would not hesitate to drop someone he likes, or doubt someone he knows. He was willing to fight Doug because he betrayed his trust. And he was also willing to fight Doug because he knew Doug.
William's rationale for how he treats those around him too is also something I love. The way they are so much more energetic than him, and the way he won't try to match it but will tolerate it. The way he will step up, be their leader, their brains, and still somehow be an idiot because it's them, and he doesn't have to make the difficult calls all of the time. After Belltech, William was distraught, because he realized not only that he hurt his friends- But that he was going to hurt his best friends. That the relationships he has carefully managed were going to die because he wasn't careful. The way he much rather leave instead of hurt him, shut himself off instead of tell them- It's a weird way of saying "I love you," but it's William's.
And then Vynce. I can't wait for s3 when Condi writes him more, because he's already so good. He's a character so afraid of loss to the point he holds on and holds on tight, and he plays a clueless mediator half the time. He lost his father, lost his friends, his family, his home- But he found something better. Since I'm using Belltech as an example- I wonder if Vyncent ever looked at William and saw his father. Saw someone ready to betray the world for someone he cares about, to be protective in the most destructive way possible. I wonder how far Vynce's love for William and Dakota goes. I love his I'm sorry, I did the wrong thing, I won't leave you again, I won't let you fall, and all of his concerns and worries and careful love he places in the prime defenders. The family he found.
I think I've said it before, but I think William is like a shooting star (or a comet), he is something constantly falling and tumbling and he is burning with it all. He is something so beautiful in his decent and that in itself is dangerous. Vyncent is like a firework- Much more explosive, but can you turn away from the shock of it going off? As it pollutes the sky it never really belonged in, as it bursts with every emotion at once. And Dakota is either that very sky they are in, framing their fury and love and misery, or he is a fire extinguisher waiting and ready to put them out, to save them when they go too far. Or maybe he is something just like them, like the volcano they fell in, grumbling and rising around them, something just as destructive, more destructive. Something patient.
Now if you were asking about Relationships relationships between each other? I'm partial to Ghostknife- But honestly, I don't care if they end up together or if anyone ends up together. I think for Ghostknife to even happen, Vyncent needs his s3 development. I've seen every other ship though, and they all honestly work. But I kinda also want Ghostknife to stay as an awkward crush because it's comedic <3
Okay I got to go, thanks for the ask!!!!!

Do you mind going more in-depth with William’s fear of becoming mal?
NOT AT ALL!!!!! I THINK ABOUT IT SO MUCH SINCE CHARLIE SAID IN A ROLLED THAT WILLIAM IS TERRIFIED OF EVER BECOMING LIKE MAL
At the beginning of the campaign William used most of his abilities, barring the Wisp form, whenever he needed. When the first instance of seeing the Wispering Woods, William “closed [his] eyes and jumped” with no hesitation and with a smile on his face. He was always scared of his Wisp form, feeling like he walks on a tightrope between life and death. After meeting Mal he becomes more scared and cautious of using anything that is similar to Mal, ghost shaping is really all he uses until the train ride and he goes intangible to avoid getting shot. The only reason he takes the soul from Mal is to make sure Mal doesn’t use it to get stronger, he doesn’t want it. He doesn’t want to be like Mal and use people’s souls to gain more power, but he does in order to ensure it doesn’t go to Mal. It was the lesser of two evils in that moment. That is also the moment where William stops using his abilities that he deems are more “monstrous” or similar to Mal. William just tried his hardest to get his powers in control, but he doesn’t use them, he relies on his brain and investigation instead. When season two comes around he’s so traumatized by Ashe’s “death” and the Trickster’s “birth” that he’s outlook as completely changed. He already worked in shades of gray during season one but in season two he really falls into those grays and is becoming more and more like Mal and he hates it but doesn’t stop it. He loses control of the wisps and his abilities because he doesn’t want to use them, he doesn’t want to be the Wisperer that Mal wants so he just chooses to not use anything that is connected to the spirit world because of Mal and because of Ashe and the Trickster. But William just fully turns away from the wisps and believes they are the ones turning from him but he’s so full of fear and caution that he just loses that connection. He’s so worried about becoming evil, but he doesn’t know what else to do. He fully loses the connection to being a hero while at BellTech but he doesn’t want to lose his humanity and become like Mal. He doesn’t even join the fight against the Trickster until there’s nothing else that can be done because he feels powerless and that he can’t do anything. It takes his death for him to realize that he isn’t like Mal, he isn’t a villain, he’s just a kid trying his best and he shouldn’t be scared of who he is or of what he can do. Because at the end of the day he isn’t Mal, he’s William Wisp, the Wisperer.
This is a bit incoherent but I’m running on not a lot of sleep and writing this in between scenes during the show lol so hopefully this makes Some sense
