i want to be really clear that when i circle around to people’s tags applying the oppression of the elves to other minority groups by reiterating “this is about indigenous and jewish people” i am by no means discouraging you from drawing on other cultures and political histories to inform your own work in this fandom. PLEASE continue to do so. it only adds further depth and colour into this setting.
every time i see people drawing their ocs in their own cultural dress or developing headcanons about poc in thedas i am clapping and cheering. i think it’s beautiful and incredible that so many of us can see ourselves in this setting & continue to make ourselves visible.
my emphasis on the centrality of indigeneity and jewishness in the source text is NOT a critique of fan works. it is a critique of bioware and its normalisation of extremely prevalent and extremely harmful anti-indigenous & antisemitic tropes in their work. tropes that prop up the very same settler-colonial nation they live in.
#keep talking about & making cool fan works about your elven ocs of any/all cultural backgrounds!!!! NEVER STOP!!!!!!!!#black elves 🙌 swana elves 🙌 desi elves 🙌 east asian elves 🙌 south asian elves 🙌#literally any cultural background. it’s all good. make your ocs and yap about them and draw them and explore this world through them.#i am putting your ocs on my shoulders and running through the town square yelling ‘EVERYONE LOOK!!!’#bioware however. bioware does not get to generalise. that is a separate issue.
