I think Stannis will get a half ass victory before the weather starts worsening and flee for the Wall. Regarding the Vale, they have been trained to fight in icy terrains . Do you think KotV will also have to battle against the clans before they head North ? The plot of Vale wanting to aid the Starks was introduced in AGOT so that needs to have a pay off. But the tensions between Clans and Vale nobility were introduced in the first book and with Tyrion's disdain for the latter and arming the former, do you think a huge confrontation might be in the play between the two which might slow down KotV reaching the North with dwindled numbers if there is a big battle between the 2 and will they go North after suffering a battle ? Maybe Sansa has to leave the Vale first on her own , rally the Northern Houses with Jon and Rickon and the Vale show up at the end. I do think GRRM might go for a ride of the Rohirrim . But as he had done it already with Tywin and the Reach against Stannis at Blackwater, would he do it again ? Whatever happens, I don't think Bolton will be defeated early in TWOW as many speculate . They are going to hang in there for a bit.Thoughts ?

I think the clans will attack during the tourney that sees the fall and maybe death of Harrold Hardyng. I think Sansa will briefly meet Timmott son of Timmott from the burned man who lacks an eye and could be Jon stand-in.

And I agree that she’ll probably go North on her own, in the footsteps of Ned’s journey during the rebellion. The knights of the Vale will have to re-assert their authority and defeat the clans (or even ally with them) while Sansa tries to get support in the North with Jon (and maybe Rickon?).

I don’t think Stannis will earn any victory. When he comes to the WAll, he will be desperate to turn the tide. He has to be very desperate to sacrifice Shireen - which I think will need to happen before Jon can be resurrected again.

I expect that Sansa and Jon will be unsure about the coming of the Knights of the Vale and that their arrival will turn the battle. It could be a beautiful “Ride of Rohirrim’ moment and I dont’t think it would be stale a) because who would ever grow tired of the horns being blown over the fields of Pelennor at dawn and b) unlike in the show we didn’t really see Tywin coming to the rescue of King’s Landing because it was only told in hindsight.

And yes, I agree, the Boltons will only be driven out by the Starks later in the books. Just like it should be. Just my two cents, obviously.
