Hey everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself to folx who are new around here. I'm De-Andrea, a licensed clinical social worker, the Christian Sex Maven, and #YourFavoriteSexTherapist. I own Sankofa Sex Therapy, LLC in St. Louis, MO where I provide therapy to individuals and those in all types of relationships. I'm so glad to have you here! So, why Sankofa? Well, Sankofa is an Adinkra symbol from the Akan people of Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire which means "go back to the past in order to build for the future." In using the spirit of Sankofa as the basis of therapeutic intervention, we understand the importance of valuing each client's unique personal history and examine how it can influence concepts of self-identity and visions for the future. Although we don't encourage clients to remain in the past, in the Sankofa Approach, we seek to learn from the past and "go back and fetch" what we need so we can move forward and create the present and future we desire. . . . #YourFavoriteSexTherapist #BlackSocialWorkers #BlackSexTherapist #Adinkra #BlackTherapists #BlackSex #ChristianSex (at St. Louis, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-8uol1hLOb/?igshid=ujopmq9e6n2m

Hi y'all! I've been reflecting on a lot these days, how we allow ourselves to experience pleasure, specifically Christians. I know lots of folks who spent so much time "denying their flesh" that when they're in relationships they feel are appropriate, they're not able to cancel out the negative messages they've internalized regarding sex and pleasure. Unfortunately, there is no magic switch that flips after getting into a covenant relationship. However, there's hope. We have freedom in Christ, y'all! And that freedom includes the ability to experience pleasure and explore our sexuality. Next month, I'll be sharing ways to incorporate spirituality into your sexual practices. Let's get free, y'all. 💜 . . . #YourFavoriteSexTherapist #CouplesTherapy #Relationships #RelationshipTherapy #BlackSexTherapist #SankofaSex #ChristianSex #ChristianSexTherapy (at Ferguson, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CELILudB8pO/?igshid=35ur43ax6ly6

One year ago today, Chloe Anthony Wofford Morrison, known as Toni Morrison, joined the ancestors. She was my Soror, one of my favorite birthday twins, and an author I cherished. She wrote in a way that always centered Blackness when few others in the mainstream did. I'm incredibly grateful for her. I love this photo series of Mother Toni. She embodies happiness. Sensuality. Blackness. Freedom. Dance today to honor her. 🖤 . . . #YourFavoriteSexTherapist #BlackSocialWorkers #BlackSexTherapist #SankofaSex #ToniMorrison #Ancestors #CapitalizeTheB (at Ferguson, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDh6vz2hfx4/?igshid=101q3n5cbwqod

Did you know that May is National Masturbation Month? Since May has come, you should, too! It's been said that solo sex is the safest, so g'on 'head and celebrate without shame. Masturbation Month started in 1995 as a response to the forced resignation of U.S. Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders in December 1994. After a speech at the UN World AIDS Day in, an audience member asked Elders about masturbation’s potential for discouraging early sexual activity. She answered, “I think it is something that is part of human sexuality and a part of something that perhaps should be taught.” That marked the end of the first black Surgeon General’s Washington career, but the beginning of National Masturbation Month. The founders of San Francisco-based sex shop Good Vibrations said, "Enough is enough!" They wanted to do two things: keep up the conversation about Elders firing and make people talk about masturbation. Good Vibrations recognized many people needed support and advice regarding self love. For so long, shame and stigma have been attached to masturbating. Yet the truth is it is a part of human sexuality that is natural, pleasurable, and healthy. It is said "ninety-eight percent of us masturbate" and the other two percent are liars. So go ahead, don't be afraid to get to know yourself a little more intimately to celebrate Masturbation Month! . . . #YourFavoriteSexTherapist #BlackSexTherapist #BlackSex #ChristianSex #ChristianSexMaven #TouchYourself #LoveYourself #SoloSex #NationalMasturbationMonth (at Ferguson, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_qXGAwlzUE/?igshid=87t4gcfcc27k

The theme for Social Work Month 2020 is Social Workers: Generations Strong. The theme has various meanings. As we enter a new decade it is important to look back and honor the powerful, positive impact the social work profession has had on our society for generations. We also want to spotlight the life-affirming work that social workers from all generations — from the Greatest Generation to Generation Z — are doing. And since NASW is celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2020, Social Work Month is a great opportunity to remind social workers of the important work NASW has been doing for decades and the need to join. . . . #YourFavoriteSexTherapist #BlackSocialWorkers #BlackSexTherapist #SankofaSex #SocialWorkMonth #SocialWork #SocialWorkers (at St. Louis, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9ODxyAhGLv/?igshid=jkgj8wdvk5un

In addition to being #YourFavoriteSexTherapist, I'm a school social worker. My friend at @wildrosebudcrafts made this set of emotion dolls and it's been a HIT with my students. They've been able to use them to express themselves in ways I hadn't yet seen. Give her a follow and order a set for yourself. . . . #SchoolSocialWorker #BlackSocialWorkers #BlackSexTherapist https://www.instagram.com/p/B7RFD5WhC1C/?igshid=2eufpnf1ec3t

Kwanzaa Furaha (Joyous Kwanzaa)!!! ❤🖤💚 "Kwanzaa is the seven-day celebration of the Nguzo Saba. Developed in 1966 by the US organization, led by Maulana Karenga, Kwanzaa is in the harvest tradition and literally means "first fruits," and is a non-religious, non-heroic, holiday that celebrates and recognizes Black/African heritage and culture. Nguzo Saba means "Seven Pillars," from which we derive the term "(Seven) Principles." The Nguzo Saba is a Black value system that was developed by the US organization through a crosscultural study of various diasporic African groups in determining what core values exist among them/us. These shared values are intended to be the pillars upon which we intentionally and lovingly engage with each other, create, recreate and advance African culture. Many of the words used for the holiday are in Kiswahili, an East African language in the Bantu linguistic family that is shared between many ethnic groups and was created to connect them. The creators of Kwanzaa decided that Kiswahili, as an African language created to connect Black folks, is suitable for a holiday created to connect and inspire Black people." -@yeahscottfree . . . #YourFavoriteSexTherapist #BlackSocialWorkers #BlackSexTherapist #Kwanzaa #HappyKwanzaa #KwanzaaFuraha #SankofaSexTherapy #Adinkra (at Ferguson, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6jGX3DBCre/?igshid=1q7ci96ijx5y5

🗣VIRGINITY IS A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT CREATED TO CONTROL THE SEXUALITY OF WOMEN. . . Full stop. I think it's great that Tip takes his daughter to her doctor's appointments. However, this preoccupation with her sexuality and a false measure thereof is kinda creepy. Like. Just don't.
