kai is the master of lightning, inheriting it from his father . this is kind of my excuse for him sucking at being a blacksmith in destinyswap. generally he’s the same personality wise , just um yk☺️ anyway . a lot of his more lengthy plot points don’t revolve around him EXCLUSIVELY but instead interactions that he has with the others , though they’re meant to reflect facts about him and his behavior …

kai learns spinjitzu before anyone else on the team , and like i said, he unlocks his golden weapon’s vehicle first too . he doesn’t care much for nunchucks so he actually doesn’t use them often in combat, opting for katanas or pure lightning based attacks , or even just good ol’ right hooks instead (once he reaches his true potential, of course). he CAN use the nunchucks of lightning, but he prefers not to.

when nya was revealed to be the green ninja , kai actually had no idea what it was prior. the golden weapons reacting to her presence was what led lloyd and garmadon to revealing the prophecy, which meant that kai was immediately sent into a world of emotions. inferiority, confusion , worry, anger … he was pretty muddled , and definitely envious of his sister for being so important and destined to be great, but above all , kai was paranoid .

his worry for his sister was all he could think about for a while . it led kai to train pretty excessively. he learned and improved quickly, but his obsession with being strong enough to protect his little sister was definitely not healthy. he’d often linger outside of her room and wake her up with knocking just to make sure she was okay, still there and breathing

eventually he did get over his obsession, learned to mellow out , but he still trained pretty hard because that’s the type of person he is .

(important to note that he might have only mellowed out because lloyd introduced him to the wonderful fact that there is a sequel to his favorite game from childhood, fist to face)

continuing on , when JAY joins the ninja , kai is once again thrown into a state of conflict . this kid they’ve saved is , frankly, a fucking brat with no manners . rich and famous and super intelligent (and kind of cute) or not , jay was negative and annoying and hard to be around . kai was never excited for jay to join them indefinitely, even if he did manage to help nya fix their training equipment . not even because jay was rude to him, because that evened out quickly, but because jay was rude to nya.

kai wouldn’t have gaf if jay kicked him in the shin , the fact that he was being rude to his sister, who had so much to worry about already , ticked him off . at one point , kai had pulled him aside under the guise of “training him”, and essentially cornered him emotionally while they sparred (correction: while kai threw jay around like a yo-yo) until jay cracked and admitted why he was so rude to nya. and unfortunately for kai, he had to sympathize, because jay’s feelings of inferiority and not being good enough were what led kai to act the way he did when he first joined, too

maybe he did hug jay and chide him about being cruel to his sister, and maybe he did subtly watch as jay apologized to nya and asked her to look over some of his blueprints for her opinion ❤️

anywayyy. that’s all i have for ds kai so far (that i can share) !!! hope this was more satisfying than the fact that i CANNOT TALK ABOUT COLE RN…

as always, ds kai facts

- he uses his electricity to fix his hair , but sometimes it gets too staticky and puffs up dramatically … nya has loads of pictures

- he gets hot really easily , he walks around in tank tops more often than not and wearing his gi on warm days is awful for him

- he likes to help harumi with her history homework ❤️

- he tends to lift people when he hugs them, even if they’re way taller than him (like zane. and he WOULD do it to morro, too, but morro beats him to it every time)

- he gets a new piercing, like, every month

- he has freckles !! but there’s only a few clusters and they’re pretty light and tiny . pretty sure he has more scars than freckles

- speaking of some of his scars , specifically , the eyebrow cut and scar on his cheek are both from blacksmithing incidents, but the one on his lip is from a more … upsetting experience

- he’s accidentally blown up two toasters and an electric kettle . he isn’t allowed in the kitchen (or near any electronic devices, for that matter) when he’s sleepy

- kai does maintenance on nya’s hair . he’s the one who suggested she get an undercut

- he can always tell when nya is upset in any way , and he always does what he can to make her feel better . staying up with her to hold her, or offering to cook her something warm and sweet, or trying to take her mind off of it by handing her a controller and turning on their gaming console

- he is a great cook but it is. not likely that he will follow a recipe . he does what he wants thank u

- HE HATES THE COLOR BLUE. HE’S ACTUALLY UPSET THAT HIS GI JS BLUE 😭😭😭😭

- his phone is so cracked omg. and it’s not even his first phone he’s gone through like three before jay finally started fixing his current one

- he wears eyeliner : )
