Check out this fun-filled Victorian house in east London mixed with luxury, a sense of the unexpected, and more than a dash of decadence.
Tumblr media
Hallways, stairs, landings – no area was left behind when it comes to detail.
Tumblr media
Moody and atmospheric, the living room relies on luxe finishes – marble, brass and leather – for its air of opulence.
Tumblr media
There’s a bit of bling happening with the brass globe light & marble fireplaces.
Tumblr media
Family room- It takes a moment to realize the wall color, paintwork and flooring are identical throughout, yet each room has a distinct character.
Tumblr media
There's no shortage of fun factor. The house doesn’t take itself too seriously. Surfboards, graffiti and quirky artwork subvert the Gothic overtones.
Tumblr media
Graphic patterns take monochrome black and white to the next level.
Tumblr media
The house’s palette of grey walls and black woodwork is revved up with colourful cushions, bold artwork and knick knacks.
Tumblr media
The backsplash tiles were made by Suzanne Sullivan, a ceramicist living in New York. Her work is so sought after, shops don’t even display it. You have to go in and ask if they have any of her pieces – it’s usually hidden under the counter.
Tumblr media
The amazing brickwork was revealed during the renovation and left on show. It adds a rawness to this dining space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A graffiti print fabric from Timorous Beasties was chosen for the window shade, as a way for this boy’s room to easily transform to teen’s room. The furniture could be used in any room in the house, not just a child’s bedroom.
Tumblr media
A space in the hallway was converted to create an en suite for the master bedroom.
Tumblr media
A monochrome palette, teamed with pattern and textured throws, rugs and cushions creates an interesting bedroom space.
Tumblr media
Girl’s room- The grey walls let the children add personality to their rooms.

Best Bar Ideas You Can Build at Home
Bars You Can Develop in your home

An at-home bar supplies a prime place for amusing and can potentially include value to your home. And also, home owners with an attractive area for mixed drinks in the comfort of their very own house will have less reward to drive to the regional bar the following time they want to damp their whistle. Are you ready to mount your very own DIY cellar bar? Have a look at these 12 ideas for developing a sensible and well-designed space for unwinding with buddies-- and also a great beverage.
Fantastically Dry
The signature attribute of an unfinished cellar is that it's stuffy and moist. A dehumidifier is the quick solution here. Run it frequently, specifically throughout the summer season, to keep the temperature level comfy and to secure versus creepy-crawly pests. If you can't pay for to acquire one at full cost, it's constantly worth providing Craigslist a quick scan.
On the Square
With sophisticated beauty as well as stylish simplicity, this neutral-toned square bar is the best setting for mid-day mixed drinks or early morning mimosas. Sparkles of shiny chrome on the chairs as well as lighting fixtures include a touch of bling to the otherwise matte space.
Industrial Meets Rustic
The mix of commercial and rustic details builds an one-of-a-kind aesthetic in this basement bar. The homeowners count on corrugated metal house siding and reclaimed timber for building, making this a simple as well as budget-friendly job to adapt for your own space.
By the Book
Large periods of bare wall or empty locations underneath the stairways can make an incomplete basement feel dark as well as gloomy. Advertise a welcoming vibe (and conceal any kind of upsetting spaces or crannies) by lining blank walls with low-cost white bookcases or floating racks. You'll like exactly how they immediately brighten the entire space, and also they're a very easy way to include even more storage.
Stair Repair service
If your basement door open up to expose raw wood staircases of the sort that seem to have a starring role in every horror flick ever before made, brighten them up with a few coats of neutral paint. Include stair footsteps, and tighten any kind of rickety banisters to make them really feel added protected.
Sophisticated Chrome
To update their cellar bar, these property owners selected a glossy chrome subway ceramic tile backsplash rather than the classic white option. Blue necklace lights, sinuous bar feceses, as well as a glass-door fridge differentiate an otherwise simple room.

The Property Brothers Discover Jeremy Renner’s Secret Talent on ‘Celebrity IOU’
HGTV
“Property Brothers” stars Drew and Jonathan Scott have pulled off some heroic renovations, but on the latest episode of their new show, “Celebrity IOU,” the pressure’s on when they meet an actor who plays a superhero: Jeremy Renner.
And even superheroes have a soft side! Renner, the man behind the arrow-wielding Marvel character Hawkeye in “The Avengers” movies, wants the Scott brothers’ help renovating a Woodland Hills, CA, condo for his mom, Valerie.
As it turns out, Renner is quite the renovator himself! When not fighting villains on screen, he has a side business remodeling houses, with 25 remodels under his belt.
Together, these three aim to create a home that’s classy and stylish—and also durable enough to stand up to visiting grandkids. Read on to find out how the “Property Brothers” team pulls this renovation off—and along the way, learn some great, kid-friendly updates you might want to try in your own space.
Jeremy Renner plans the condo’s renovation with the “Property Brothers” stars.
HGTV
Choose porcelain counters for a durable, easy-to-clean style
This kitchen needed a lot of work!
HGTV
When the Scott brothers first see Valerie’s kitchen, they know that this space is due for a big renovation. One of the biggest problems? The counters.
“One of my biggest pet peeves in the kitchen is tile counters, because it just sucks up the bacteria,” Jonathan says.
With grandkids in the kitchen all the time, Jonathan knows Valerie will need something that is durable and easy to clean. Plus, he wants to install a countertop that looks sophisticated and stylish. In the end, he settles on a beautiful white porcelain slab that can go up the wall for the  backsplash.
This kitchen looks fresh, modern, and beautiful.
HGTV
“This is going to tie together the whole color palette,” Jonathan says of the porcelain counter. “This is the bling on top of the finished product.”
In the end, it looks amazing. The counters look modern and classy, while also being functional for busy days with grandkids.
An all-white kitchen can turn into a messy kitchen
Renner helps Jonathan choose finishes.
HGTV
While the porcelain counters brighten up the kitchen, the brothers know that a good counter is nothing without some great cabinets. And it’s up to Renner to choose the color.
“You run into a problem when you go all white,” Renner says, explaining that with young children running around the kitchen, white cabinets could get messy fast.
“It’s either change the color of the cabinets or get rid of the kids,” Jonathan jokes.
In the end, Renner and Jonathan decide to pull some white into the cabinet design, but they put it in the upper cabinets, far out of reach of messy little hands. Down below, they choose beautiful dark blue cabinets that make the kitchen look bold and stylish.
Go neutral when it comes to flooring
When Jonathan asks Renner’s opinion on flooring, the actor knows exactly what styles will look good.
“I like the warmth of this,” Renner says when inspecting a sample of white oak flooring. It’s a safe, neutral look, and Jonathan agrees that this color is right for Valerie’s condo.
When the floors are finally installed, Valerie loves the color.
“Just the floors alone are so beautiful,” she says
The entry tile should be stylish and durable
Jonathan and Renner put down the tile for the entryway.
HGTV
With beautiful white oak flooring being installed in the living room, Jonathan isn’t sure what to do with the raised entryway. He knows that putting the same flooring over the single step could make the two levels visually blend together, creating a tripping hazard. Instead, Jonathan decides to install gray and white tile to make the entryway stand out.
And Renner loves the gray and white style Jonathan chooses.
“It has that … classic ’20s Hollywood feel,” Renner says, “and it keeps with the aesthetic of this beautiful, traditional modernized home.”
This tile looks perfect in the entryway.
HGTV
“It actually defines the front entrance and makes this a separate space,” Jonathan says.
But this tile isn’t just functional. Jonathan explains that the durable, easy-to-clean tile will come in handy when grandkids march in from outside.
A fireplace should be both modern and classic
This fireplace updates this space while still giving it a classic flair.
HGTV
While this condo already has a fireplace, the brothers know that the small, off-center feature isn’t going to work for Valerie. They take out the old fireplace and replace it with a new fireplace that brings some old-world style to the living room.
“This fireplace feature wall is a prime example of how we want old to meet new,” Jonathan explains. The plaster finish is going to bring an old European feel.
In the end, the fireplace looks beautiful—modern but classic. It’s a perfect place for Valerie, and a perfect home away from home for her grandkids.
Is this ‘Celebrity IOU’ a success?
Renner and his mom, Valerie, already feel right at home.
HGTV
When Renner and the Scott brothers finally finish this condo, the place looks fantastic. Renner loves the clean, classic look, and when Valerie finally sees her renovated home, she’s shocked. She loves the living room, the floors, and the kitchen.
“My life has come full circle now,” Valerie says. “I can have all my grandchildren here, I can have my children here, we can make so many memories here. I couldn’t be happier.”
The Scott brothers and Renner sure had a lot of fun with this renovation!

Florida Beach Cottage
This is a post you want to save and come back to anytime when things are feeling a little blue, because I can almost guarantee that this home will leave you feeling a little lighter and much happier.
To say that I love this designer’s work is an understatement. She design homes that are tailored without losing their soul. In another words, she design interiors that are meant to be lived in and not just looked at.
Lisa Peterson, interior designer and co-owner of Pineapples, Palms, Etc. has always dreamed of living in a comfortable, relaxed, Florida Cracker style cottage, with views and breezes from the water that create her “Barefoot Dream” lifestyle. Peterson and her husband were fascinated by the “Old Florida” appeal of Hobe Sound. The unincorporated village, adjacent to Jupiter Island, is a little slice of heaven. Covered with Banyan trees, the neighborhood they chose to build their home was laden with history. The lot next door housed an Ice House in the late 1800’s and the stretch of Intracoastal waterway in front of the home was once the site of a ferry landing for boats to carry perspective land buyers to Jupiter Island.
“Cottage on Cabot” was built with the true Florida Cracker architecture of the past, and blends perfectly with its historic surroundings. Cracker architecture was used widely in the 19th century in Florida. Florida cracker homes are characterized by metal roofs, wrap around porches, long and straight central hallways from the front to the back of the home. Peterson loved this concept so she incorporated many windows and doors that open onto the large deck, allowing the constant ocean breeze to fill the house.
Pineapples, Palms, Etc., is a popular retail and interior design store in Jupiter, just 15 minutes away from the home, and is known for its crisp, modern coastal style, with a unique brand of casual elegance. The sisters opened the store in 2001, and it remains in the same location today, providing interior design services to locals, as well as many professional athletes and celebrities that reside in the area. Peterson took the vibe from the store, which is loaded with one-of-a-kind pieces and comfortable, slipcovered furniture and infused Cottage on Cabot with a similar energy. The result is open, airy and inviting.
All furniture and decor are available through the designer.

Full-scale Home Remodel Inspiration
A single dad recently hired the talented Lisa Furey of Lisa Furey Interiors (previously featured here & here) to help with the full-scale gut remodel of a contemporary style home overlooking a gorgeous duck pond and park in Villanova, PA. The designer selected all finishes, from flooring to the millwork. She designed custom cabinetry throughout the home, and selected the handmade tile, stone, plumbing and lighting. The designer also created furniture plans, made the furniture selection, designed window treatments and rugs. The best part of this job for her was creating a happy space for a great dad and his endearing young daughter.

51 Luxury Kitchens And Tips To Help You Design And Accessorize Yours
Food is seductive, home cooking is a decadent (for some!) If your kitchen is indeed the heart of your home – or linked with your dining space – then you’ll want to fill it with the kind of luxury you’d expect at your very favourite restaurant. This gallery of 51 inspirational kitchen designs are steeped with luxury for high end homes, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no inspiration here for more compact proportions too. Luxury is a treat that can be enjoyed at any scale, just as wonderful food can delight any taste buds. So, get your chefs hat on and image yourself in these amazing spaces as you whip up your signature dish.
Visualizer: Orangegraphics Creative Studio   Marble kitchens have always spelled luxury. That sleek veined organic pattern across a countertop, backsplash or flooring is enough to shape a space, but how about taking the effect right across all of that and even cabinet fronts too? The all encompassing marble backdrop in this luxury kitchen-diner is balanced out with eye-catching emerald green accent furniture and plants.
Visualizer: Ihor Bednarchyk   Marble envelops just the central island of this grey and white kitchen, but the volume is chunky and strongly commands the space.
Visualizer: Studio McGee   Cater for the masses. A long lineup of designer kitchen bar stools make a statement here, and if you’ve got the space (and the cash) then hey, why not? These are Cherner style stools.
Visualizer: Katie Domracheva   Turn up the contrast. High contrast black and white kitchens are sharp and edgy – though this one has a nature theme with its flock of gulls mobile. Their fluid shape melds beautifully with the randomly streaked marble feature wall.
Visualizer: STUDIO.O. organic design   Add a bit of bling. Adding shiny accessories doesn’t have to mean crystal chandeliers or sparkle worktops. These copper desk lamps add a sophisticated metallic touch without being too showy.
Visualizer: Alexey Seldin & Alexei Golub   Grey and woodtone look smooth through and through. The wood tone across this kitchen island has the added appeal of a fashionable herringbone design too. See more grey kitchens here.
Visualizer: Buro 511   Add in a dropped dining bench. Not everyone is comfortable perching on high bar stools and it certainly doesn’t evoke a formal feel. If there is only room up alongside the kitchen island for dining then consider dropping the dining bench to a more civilised height.
Visualizer: Kanstantsin Remez   Reflections brighten up a dark room. If you have poor light or high windows in your kitchen area, consider metallic fronted luxury kitchen cabinets to help bounce the light around like in this galley kitchen. This trick can also help a compact space feel larger.
Visualizer: Tom Mathews   Create an indoor-outdoor kitchen with fully retractable patio doors.
Visualizer: Darkroom Studio   Trelliswork creates a garden feel in this modern luxury kitchen.
Visualizer: Evgenii Baisa   Crown your design with elegant kitchen lighting. Two beautiful bar pendants brighten up this tame white and wood kitchen. See more white and wood kitchens here.
Visualizer: WohnenDesign   Create a sleek wall of tall cabinets. If you’re blessed with a generously sized kitchen island or peninsula, consider going bench free in your backdrop. A solid wall of full height cabinets becomes as much part of the decor as it is part of the kitchen.
Visualizer: Plus Form   Add a beautiful rug. Okay, so a rug is NOT a good idea in the drop zone around the edge of benches – you would be forever whipping out the stain remover and trying to vacuum out the crumbs. However, in larger space, a central area rug can really cosy up the look, particularly in a dining kitchen.
Visualizer: Bartosz Domiczek   Revitalise a kitchen with plants. Just about every single kitchen looks better with some greenery in it. Whether that’s cascading hanging plants like this one or a line of bushy potted herbs is up to you.
Visualizer: Vaes Visuals   Group multiple modern chandeliers for added effect.
Designer: TKA   These kitchen pendant lights appear to clip to the decorative ceiling moulding – like earrings.
Visualizer: M3 Architecture   You can even turn up the luxury factor in a white on white kitchen design by picking out a group of sculptural pendant lights.
Visualizer: Pikcells   Be creative with colour. A pink kitchen may not be the first thing that springs to mind for a luxury kitchen, but a hint of pink is hot right now. Team with some powder blue for pastel coloured wow factor.
Visualizer: Orangegraphics Creative Studio   If you’re looking for colour scheme inspiration, then luxury chocolate boxes are a good place to start. This kitchen looks fresh out of the wrapper.
Visualizer: Juan Carlos Marmolejo   Add in some art. This large piece of wall art adds finesse.
Visualizer: Mono Architects   Keep it simple. A minimalist kitchen design can still look high-end, it’s all in the quality of the materials and a well balanced layout. The linear suspension light in this simplistic scheme keeps a low profile but accentuates the long line of the central island.
Visualizer: Tabarq   Sharpen up a wood kitchen with fresh white accents. This row of mini pendant lights drip cool white in front of wooden wall cabinets.
Visualizer: Dark Room Studio   Include open kitchen shelving nooks like this white and wood Scandinavian kitchen.
Visualizer: Dmytro Kobelnyk   Mix cabinet finishes. Smooth and sleek black cabinets crash up against rough raw wood in this rich yet rustic design.
Designer: Marcio Kogan   Install a multi aspect island. This one is equipped with the cooker at one side and the sink on the other. More images of this gorgeous home here.
Designer: SVOYA studio   Style the surrounding decor as part of the cabinetry. The structural column that neighbours this kitchen installation has been clad in white marble and trimmed with blonde wood tone to match the units.
Designer: Paul M   Use LED strips to highlight the edges of a sharp minimalist kitchen.
Visualizer: Oleksii Karman   If wine is your thing, then let it sing! Fashion a towering wine storage rack as part of your kitchen decor for a decadent wine cellar effect.
Visualizer: Neiman Design   By utilising a number of these tips in an understated way you can achieve small kitchen luxury. This little gem includes a classy white marble backsplash, pretty greenery, monochrome contrast, intriguing wall art and the glow of LED under cabinet lighting.
Visualizer: Evgenia aborina   Change your tone. Actually, change it a few times, like this triple grey toned kitchen design. Natural wood tones are introduced to warm and enrich the cool colourway.
Visualizer: Mihail Scherbak & Timothy Kalakutsky   Ring the changes. A luxury industrial style kitchen can be enriched with beautifully patterned floor tiles and cheerful coloured accent drawers.
Designer: Barlow & Barlow Design   You almost don’t need amazing cabinets in a setting as wonderful as this one. Wainscotting and highly decorative boiserie put on the real show.
Visualizer: Nordes Design   Luxury vinyl flooring adds interest to a modern space. Where decorative features are lacking, you can create a visual boost with a swathe of geometric tile or vinyl flooring.
Visualizer: Aydar Kharlamov   Choose integrated appliances for a sleek streamlined look.
Visualizer: Kidz Design   Add in a wine cooler. This under counter wine cooler shines like a little jewel in the crown of this black kitchen ensemble.
Visualizer: Art Group   Make a mosaic. The floor of this blue kitchen flows with organic mosaic pattern.
Visualizer: Nikita Dyagiltsev   Style it out with sculptural form. This amazing wooden breakfast bar seems to grow right out of the wall.
Visualizer: BIG Design   The sculptural piece in this kitchen is an island with a curvaceous cutaway. Linear kitchen lighting keeps the look clean.
Visualizer: Burak Lafcı   Angular cutaways are the focus in this artistic kitchen design, where asymmetrical form is key. Every single section is carved out as a sloping volume that follows a different gradient to the next – including a bespoke skylight design to complement the aesthetic of the cabinets.
Visualizer: Who Cares?! Design   Nothing says luxury like an entirely gold kitchen. This U-shaped kitchen also features a stunning cantilevered effect peninsula.
Visualizer: Project A01 Architects   Another amazing sculptural peninsula. Looking as though it has been constructed out of folds, this volume is like a giant piece of origami.
Visualizer: Delta Tracing   Create a cubist kitchen. So, this kitchen island idea really doesn’t even look like a cooking space at all. It’s more like a deconstructed concept or an abstract idea of a kitchen.
Source: Weichert   This spectacular space is all about the architecture. More images of this here.
Visualizer: Visual Method   Flirt with a futuristic approach. Cutting edge technology, digital look lighting ideas, clinical glass cabinets and the infiltration of live plants gives this modern kitchen a year 2500 kind of feel.
Visualizer: Who Cares Design   Grow yourself a green feature wall with an indoor vertical garden.
Visualizer: Kuchen   Imagine you’re hosting your own cooking show! Arrange your cooking hob on an island facing outward to the audience… okay, so that’s actually just your family but they can still enjoy the show!
Visualizer: Stephen Tsimbalyuk   Master the art of levitation. Recessing the bases of units gives them a cool weightless look.
Visualizer: Evgenia Belkina   Add pieces of classic elegance to a modern kitchen, like these sculptural busts.
Visualizer: Plasterlina   A dark kitchen looks sophisticated for sure, but don’t be afraid to throw in a couple of brighter pieces like these uplifting bold yellow lighting options and area rug.
Visualizer: Dina Kuzmenko   If you want to throw your cash at just one luxury item, the kitchen backsplash isn’t a bad choice. Pick out some showstopping tiles to set the scene.
Designer: Robert Kolenik   The perfect luxury kitchen for mermaids or Aquaman – or just fish enthusiasts.
1. Touch faucet with magnetic docking spray 2. Kitchen tablet mount 3. Koncord stool 4. Black silverware set 5. Pippet LED pendants 6. Umbra copper finish wall clock 7. Spices and culinary herbs poster 8. Stelton black kitchen knives 9. Menu pedal trash can

Kitchen remodel cost: Where to spend and how to save?
While no redesign adds as much value to your home or is probably going to be more delighted in, kitchen rebuild expenses can gain out of power rapidly. With regards to rebuilding your kitchen, look at where specialists propose spending lavishly — and where you can compromise. Rampage spend: EXOTIC STONE COUNTERTOPS  "While redesigning a kitchen, the main spend too much you should make is ledges. They're the main thing individuals see," said temporary worker John DeSilvia, host of DIY Network's "Under Construction" and "10 Grand in Your Hand." Karen Williams, a fashioner and kitchen expert and chief of the boutique plan studio St. Charles of New York, concurs. "Fascinating surfaces establish a major first connection and can set the tone of the space," she said. A kitchen island, specifically, merits the spend lavishly. As the social event and engaging center in many kitchens, it's exceptionally unmistakable and used. So top it with something extraordinary — marble, quartz or flawless magma stone, for instance — and cut back on off the beaten path prep zones if your financial plan is constrained. Spare: CABINETS  In spite of the fact that there's certainly a case to be made for putting resources into the best cupboards you can bear the cost of — they devour in excess of 75 percent of your kitchen space, all things considered — the funds potential is simply excessively extraordinary, making it impossible to disregard. Custom cupboards for a standard-sized kitchen can cost upwards of $40,000, while prepared to-gather cupboards from IKEA look astounding at a small amount of the cost, says DeSilvia. That is a reserve fund of $36,000. Willing to find some middle ground? Include custom entryways and sideboards to fundamental IKEA bureau boxes, proposes Amy Shakespeare, proprietor of the New York City-based firm Redtop Architects, or include energy with Panelboards, a moderate method to give your cupboards a unique look.
Spend lavishly: HARDWARE AND FIXTURES Spring for bling! "You require only a couple of top-notch pieces for cabinetry to include the completing touch — relatively as adornments add to a form closet. Consistently, it's in your grasp so it needs a pleasant touch to it," said Williams, who is inclined toward cleaned nickel and delicate silk metal, which suit both conventional and contemporary insides. Better equipment additionally faces every day utilize and misuse. "You don't need the complete the process of rubbing off." Spare: APPLIANCES  It's not important to use up every last cent on a top-notch treated steel (still the standard), or on brands like SubZero or Wolf. Williams calls attention to that you're not trading off an all-around planned kitchen on the off chance that you settle on splendidly magnificent mid-and upper-go brands like Bosch, GE, Jenn Air, and Fisher and Paykel. Simply don't be enticed by extravagant accessories, which include superfluous expense. "Not very many individuals require every one of the highlights," said Williams. "The best isn't the best in the event that it doesn't serve your requirements." Spend lavishly: BACKSPLASH  "This is my most loved region to spend lavishly, even on a spending kitchen, as there are such a significant number of superb tile choices out there now, and a smidgen of uncommon tiles goes far," says Shakespeare. Also, the establishment by and large costs a similar whether you purchase a tile you venerate or an "awful tile you're not content with," said DeSilvia. All things considered, an exemplary white tram tile dependably looks chic and current and can be had for as meager as $2 per square foot. (Be that as it may, just get it on the off chance that you cherish it.) Spare: ECO-FRIENDLY FLOORS  Built stopper and genuine tile are reasonable, smart and delicate — an interesting point in the event that you cook (it's more agreeable to remain on) or are a dropper (concrete and hard tile harm effectively), says Shakespeare. In case you're willing to spend more, she suggests either recovered wood or strong stopper tiles ("ravishing when introduced in a herringbone design"). Rampage spend: WINDOWS In case you're betting everything on a remodel, spending plan liberally for windows as nothing adds warmth and excellence to a room like common light. At the point when Faith Durand, official manager of the Kitchn.com, as of late made over her very own kitchen, she put her cash in astounding canopy windows with great equipment and full-length sidelights alongside a sliding entryway. "The expense of windows includes, yet this is an ideal opportunity to place them in," Durand said. "Another lighting is less vital, and economical pendants from IKEA can be effortlessly supplanted not far off." Spare: SINK In spite of the fact that the kitchen sink sees huge amounts of activity, it's not important to spend a considerable measure, particularly if it's an undercount. Williams calls attention to that there are numerous superbly great treated steel bowls accessible for $200-$500. Do, in any case, spring for a fixture you cherish — particularly a haul out model that makes washing dishes interminably less demanding. "A quality fixture merits the venture," she said. Rampage spend: A SECOND SINK  Is an additional sink vital? Nope, that is the thing that makes it a rampage spend. As per Shane Inman, Houzz donor and president and senior essential inside creator of The Inman Company, a second sink can be similarly as helpful as an essential sink since it enables two clients to cook and clean all the while. While the great second sink spot is in the kitchen island, having one of every a wet bar or washroom wardrobe would feel powerful wanton, as well. Spend too much: VENTILATION  You realize what stinks? A home loaded with impactful nourishment smells. "Now and again mortgage holders will attempt and set aside some cash by not running an immediate vent from the hood fumes to the outside," said DeSilvia, including that numerous settles rather for a sifting, ductless model that re-courses air once more into the home. It's not perfect. On the off chance that you have the space for a vented hood, dependably spend the additional cash. In the event that your home can't oblige an immediate vent (they're enormous and not every person has a left point), purchase the best-unvented one you can inside your financial plan. "Great ventilation is critical, particularly in case you're not a decent cook," she said.
Spare: INTERIOR CABINET ACCESSORIES  Considering grabbing locally acquired embeds and fitting them into your cabinetry, says Williams. Haul out drawers and coordinators, cutlery plate, under-rack racks, and other moderate, simple to-redo things would all be able to be gobbled up from The Container Store, Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath and Beyond, Williams-Sonoma and Häfele. The best part is that as your needs change, so can your frill. Spare: SOFT-CLOSE DRAWERS  Delicate close drawers are beautiful however a bit much, says Williams. "Without a doubt, you will have the capacity to close your cupboards. We have been doing it for a long time," she said. "They're a decent component, however in the event that you don't have it, you'll never truly require it." Rampage spend: CABINET TASK LIGHTING  Stunning, dangling installations are enthusiastically loved. Under-mounted lights, as a rule, create less zest. So which would it be a good idea for you to rampage spend on? The last mentioned. As indicated by Williams, assignment lighting — explicitly, those workhorses that enlighten counter-prep territories — is fundamental since you utilize it consistently. What's more, since it requires genuine electrical work, it's not as simple to include later. Spare: ORNAMENTATION  "Overdesigning prompts overspending, running up the financial plan with no result," Williams brings up. Elaborate crown moldings, for instance, can be made out of at least five pieces, and the more dimensions of detail, the more prominent the cost. To minimize expenses, stick to ones with just a single or two pieces. Similarly, select wood sections rather than extravagant cut corbels and completed end boards rather than pilasters on islands and cupboards.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Using Mirrors as a Design Element
We all know that mirrors can make a room appear larger – and that’s a neat trick –  but mirrors are more than just one-trick ponies. They can also be used as a design element to help complete whatever look you’re trying to achieve. A mirror can provide either contrast or balance when used correctly. It can also unify a space or serve as the focal point. However, it’s important to make sure that the scale and proportion are harmonious with the setting.
Below are just some of the many ways you can use mirrors as a design element.
Suspended Mirror

This mirror is suspended from the ceiling and serves as the room’s focal point while providing both interest and contrast. However, the mirror is also functional, serving to separate the two back-to-back vanities and allowing the users on either side to view it simultaneously as needed. In addition, the mirror is low enough to be used by people of almost any height, but it’s also high enough to avoid getting splashed with water.
Tile-Surround Mirror

This is just one of the vanity stations in this home’s master bath. The mirror – with beveled sides – has a glass mosaic iridescent tile surround with diamond glass grout. The mirror is the attention grabber in this small space with high ceilings, and the sconces are placed slightly above eye level to balance the room and draw the eye upward.
Mirrored Closet Doors

The walk-in closet in this Chicago lake home has antiqued mirror closet doors, in addition to the antiqued door leading into the walk-in. This touch of old-world glamour adds just enough bling to make the room stylish without being gaudy.
Mirror as Unifier

In this elegant Boston powder room, the mirror unifies all of the room’s other elements. It brings out the polished chrome and crystal handles of the faucet and the chrome light fixture. The mirror also highlights the soft grays on the walls and countertop as well as the design in the charcoal drawings.
A Wall of Mirrors

This may look like the lobby of a commercial building, but it’s actually a Miami-based residential lobby. Using a wall of mirrors, it plays on the design element of pattern, which adds another level of interest to the room and complements the repeating pattern on the floor and cabinet.

The horizontal and vertical lines in the wall of mirrors help to define this sleek space and focus attention on the wall-mounted sink and toilet. The mirrored wall also helps to bounce the natural light around the room.

The view outside is clearly the focal point in the space. However, the mirror, wood floors and cabinets in this minimalist bathroom provide contrast to the otherwise all-white areas. The geometric shape of the bathroom mirrors also adds texture and interest, which keeps this space from looking sterile when the windows are closed. The mirrors also provide a repeating pattern, a popular element in design.

A desk is another way to incorporate mirrors in your design. And according to Lyndsey Dianne, owner and operator of DianneDecor.com,  mirrors can also be used in other ways to provide accents. “Mirrored trays and vases make great centerpieces, and they add a bit of glam to a space, particularly when paired with chrome or silver,” she says.  “A small mirror embellished with a few rhinestones or diamond wrap is a great design element, and it can be used as a lovely jewelry tray or a place to hold your perfume,” Dianne says.

Vanilla Ice Spends $100K on a Wild Renovation—Nice, Nice, Baby!
DIY
Rapper Vanilla Ice, aka Rob Van Winkle, has a renovation show like no other. As proof, all you need to do is watch “The Vanilla Ice Project” on the DIY Network, where he turns crumbling mansions in Palm Beach, FL, into flashy party pads with bling to spare.
In the latest episode, “Hip-Hop Hibachi,” Van Winkle and his crew of renovation “ninjas” decide to build a giant recreation/entertainment kitchen in the downstairs family room of the $1.7 million beach house they’re flipping. Sure, there will be a more traditional family kitchen upstairs, but down here, it’s all about making a statement.
So what does a “statement” look like for Vanilla Ice? Read on for the crazy details, plus what we can all learn about renovation in the process.
Come up with unique luxury features
“We landed this beat-up blue beast and are going to transform it into a five-star retreat that stands out from the crowd,” says Van Winkle. “In order to do that, we’ll put in features that no one else has.”
For this house, one feature takes the form of a light-up, fiber-optic dining table featuring a built-in hibachi and, um, a picture of Cupid wielding a machine gun.
Cue the loud needle scratch—WHAT?!
That’s right. If you’re a Vanilla Ice fan, you might remember seeing this gun-toting cherub on his T-shirts and caps (we’d bet good money that he has it tattooed on his body somewhere).
No one explains it better than Van Winkle does in a tweet: “The meaning behind cupid with machine gun is (spread the love) only more effective than a bow and arrow! Karma is real!”
Rob Van Winkle’s signature Cupid with machine gun logo.
DIY
More shocking still is how much this table costs: $12,000. OK, we’re just going to take his word for it that this is a must-have item that people will want to get their hands on. After all, in his own words, he has “created a real estate empire right here in Florida,” and his reality show has lasted for seven seasons. So, he must know a little something about tricking out beach houses.
Install more windows to take advantage of the view
We’re right with Van Winkle on this one. If the house is situated on the beach, why not take full advantage of it?
The fascinating difference between this beach house renovation and the other ones we’ve seen lately is that Van Winkle’s home is built entirely of cement brick. So when his crew removes walls to install floor-to-ceiling windows and sliders made of high-impact glass, it doesn’t just involve busting through drywall and wooden studs and framing. Here, they must use heavy-duty drills to cut through solid cement, and use major muscle to knock the whole thing over.
Knocking down a wall made of cement blocks is quite the production.
DIY
Donate old appliances and materials
While Van Winkle’s ninjas are even more enthusiastic than most when it comes to swinging a sledgehammer on demo day, they’re also very careful about removing all the appliances and cabinets that are in good shape, so they can be donated to charity.
In this case, the cabinets are new and actually quite nice, but Van Winkle will likely never reuse them in any of his fancy projects. So some deserving family will be extremely thankful for these donations. A win-win!
Nothing says luxury like marble
“If you want to add luxury and style to your home, put in marble,” says Van Winkle. He’s a notorious marble fanatic, using it on countertops, floors, backsplashes, bathrooms—everywhere he possibly can.
In this particular home, he installs wall-to-wall floor tiles in Turkish marble for $20,000. “It looks awesome,” he explains. Then he spends $8,000 more on marble kitchen countertops.
Vanilla Ice is partial to marble countertops and vanilla-glazed cabinets.
DIY
Install heavy appliances before you finish the floors
Van Winkle has ordered what he calls a “monster fridge” for the kitchen, weighing 1,600 pounds. But it should have been installed before the pricey marble flooring. Moving the fridge out of the truck bed, over the sliding door footings, and across the floor into the kitchen without gouging the marble flooring turns out to be quite the challenge, and the easygoing Van Winkle is visibly stressed.
It becomes obvious about 10 minutes into the episode that Van Winkle is not working on the tightest of budget here. In addition to the luxuries we’ve already mentioned, he spends countless thousands on (what else?) vanilla-glazed cabinets with crystal pulls.
Still, when all is said and done and polished and gleaming, you can almost hear viewers’ jaws dropping when the total cost for renovating this room comes in at a whopping $105,000! But will these big bucks pay off? You can bet we’ll be watching next week to find out.
