Zora Waking - illustration progress

Progress of Zora waking surrounded by Vilas.

This one took me a long time, but I think it helped me learn to let go of the idea that I have to finish a piece in a single day or otherwise count it a failure. In fact, this piece benefited from being stretched out across multiple days with a bunch of breaks. It allowed me to view it with fresh eyes and pick my battles for each hour of work. It's not perfect, but it's done and that's even better! I did not record any of it and maybe that helped too, I'll see when I do try and record future illustrations.

One of the mistakes I made was keeping the original sketch lines too dark so a lot of time was wasted on painting over them later.

For those interested Zora is a Slavic goddess of Dawn and Vila are fairies (though closer to fae) these are some of my design interpretations based on resources I've read. The moment depicted being one of Zora's 'birth' from a mountain flower.
