i’m doing my little 911 rewatch and just seeing how horrible tommy used to be and have him come back and suddenly everybody’s like, he’s such a cool guy, with no acknowledgment of him actively making amends or something??? it makes it veeeeerrryyy hard to root for him w buck for me

Yes, tommy said and did objectivity horrible things in the begins episodes.

He's also the only one of the former 118 housemates to show any willingness or ability to change and grow. We see that in how he approaches chimney after chimney had saved his life in the mall.

we don't know the conversations between hen and tommy or chimney and tommy, but based on their interactions in 7x03 we have to assume there's been some grace and forgiveness given right?

Would it be nice to see that and give us a better idea of what all has changed about tommy. yeah, it would. but there's only so many episodes and so many minutes per episode. Maybe if he's sticking around longer we'll get that, and i hope that we do.

So there is a section of buddie fans really mad and disappointed about the daddy issues scene. They feel it is kinda insensitive and vain of Kinard to make a joke like that when buck is opening up about his relationship with bobby.

I kinda think buck started it?

When he looked at tommy like that and said "so we both have daddy issues" ??

I also think this is because they are not showing the growth of intimacy in bucktommy relationship properly like they had two kisses and now they don't even touch each other. I know they don't have to show stuff but this is buck's first relationship with a man and I think they can do better. What do you think?

I think anything i have to add to this is just kicking the dead horse at this point. people like @dadbodbuck and @bucksboobs have already said everything way better than I ever could.

But you are right, buck opened that conversation and tommy followed it in a natural progression of the conversation. and truthfully, from what i've observed through the season, no matter what tommy said or did, certain groups will always take issue with it. that's their prerogative. but man it's got to be fucking exhausting to spend so much time hating on something you're supposedly a fan of.

And I will say, i do think where bucktommy falls short is because they decided to explore this story in an already shortened season so it didn't get as flushed out as much as it could/should/would have otherwise.

the disaster pokemon, who's mistaken for causing disaster but actually warns about impending danger. Eddie's absol does everything it can to protect eddie and chris from everything.

a playful ghost who hides it's real identity (remind you of anyone)

he has a medicham (fighting/psychic)

with who he both spars with and meditates with

this cubone appeared to eddie and chris after shannon died and bonded to them. Eddie didn't have the heart to send it away so he stayed. He spends most of his time with Chris.

a literal impenetrable fortress of a pokemon.

I am so happy for bi buck story finally but do you seriously like Tommy, for most of the part I have seen him he is a racist and insensitive person who treated Hen and chim like shit when they came to station. Why exactly did he turn salty when buck got awkward with eddie and marisol crashing their date, he is literally on his first date with a man and clearly not out to anyone.

Idk he is a bit villanish and everyone rooting for him and buck is annoying me. I do hope he doesnt hang around for a serious relationship

villain-ish is a bit extreme don't you think? Tommy's shown nothing but kindness, compassion, support, and patience since he's been back.

in his own words in the most recent episode, the 118 used to be a reductive place and he felt like he couldn't be himself. there was a level of self preservation that presented itself as tommy partaking in not great treatments of hen and chimney. bully or be bullied, it sucks but its a very real thing especially in those "macho" professions.

that being said, both hen and chimney have formed trusting, mutually beneficial relationships with tommy in the time since he's left the 118. do you think they would have done that if tommy hadn't shown any growth and was still acting like the petulant little shit we see the first time we meet him? no they wouldn't have.

you can not like him all you want, that's your prerogative. besides, you shouldn't worry too much lou himself said it's only four episodes and episode six is his fourth.

keeping buddie aside (i am buddie canon truther btw) 911 really brought the whole buddie revolution upon themselves... literally none of the women Eddie and buck are paired with have complex multitudes...like the show writers write them with one dimensional personality...Abby was part of the main cast in season 1 yet she appeared so bland, never taking part in buck's life and just general lack of layers...shanon could literally come with "the wife who left and will leave again" title and that would still tell more about the character than the actual character....ali was literally....not there lol...and ana's personality is literally being the perfect stereotypical wife-woman (who's literally not a wife and is a very respectable VP of a school) to the point that we never really got any meaningful conversations bw Eddie and ana neither intimate scenes...her character was presented as SO blind that Eddie literally had to run to buck for comfort...taylor is one of the only love interest who as a person of her own is interesting... she's strong willed and knows what she wants to do and how to do it...but it's obvious buck and Taylor cannot work because buck is literally "save before it becomes a story" and Taylor is "make a story" ....Natalia is yet again bland as fuck and Marisol...well Marisol can fuck off...my point being maybe the fandom wouldn't have demanded so strongly for buddie canon if the show writers had written the female love interest with well any layers that would've allowed people to take heavy interest in these characters as opposed to these characters presenting... well..npc characteristics...also another reason is also the feeling portrayed by buck and Eddie. I have never felt any sort of devotion come out of buck or Eddie for their partners...not the way I have seen love in Athena/Bobby, chim/Maddie, Karen/hen 's eyes

you make a lot of strong points in here, but this really stands out the most because yeah, even with Taylor who arguably has the most story and development of any of buck/eddie partners. not like we've seen with them with each other

i have thought so so so much about this and no i don't think it would have.

with how quick it's happening now that it's on abc, I think show runners have been wanting to do this for years. but fox execs wouldn't let them. I think fox was alright with the established queer characters, david, michael, hen, karen. but didn't think their audience would respond well to a "big strong masculine firefighter" discovering his sexuality.
