Did you see the announcement for BOTW’s sequel? Because it looks like we’re seeing more of Ganon- Specifically Ganondorf’s CORPSE, and something under Hyrule Castle! And I’m excited, because I always felt there was more to Ganon’s story that we never got to see in BOTW!

So I just watched that and....

thoughts, in, approximate order:

I’m loving this eldritch horror shit, personally, with wild abandon.

Who the fuck is glowing metal accents hand. Because looking at the really quick blink-bys, Link’s right hand lights up weird, the hand holding down Ganon is a right hand, we have Zelda and Link grabbing each others’ hands and then we have glowing right hand grabbing Link’s left hand, it seems the hand attacked Ganon but at that point it was probably attached to someone else (there’s a large shadow connected to it that could be a sleeve, shoulder, or robe)... Link’s predecessor? Zelda’s? The runes don’t glow bright Sheikah blue but more of a blue-green color. Thinking about it, I think that’s a similar color that Rhoam’s ghost glowed, as well as the Champions’ spirits? So our glowing hand is probably dead.

Is Zelda’s active presence here and new cute haircut insinuating we will get playable Zelda because listen I’m probably setting myself up for heartbreak but I will put on my bozo the clown hat and clutch Nintendo’s hem, I am begging you, Nintendo, do this for me

I was sure the distorted song was being played backwards so out of curiosity I searched, and, playing the whole trailer backwards, not only does the song sound more cohesive / like a voice- but elements of the trailer are bookended. It’s easy to miss the heartbeat sound at the beginning of the trailer when played normally, but, when it’s reversed, it becomes obvious- you can hear the heartbeat (presumably Ganon’s) right at the beginning. Also, played either way, the runes fade out before you hear the heartbeat. I could be reading into this too deeply, but, on the other hand, that seems like a bit much of a coincidence, especially with the distorted voice becoming clearer when reversed suggesting it works better played backwards.

I can’t quite make out what the song is- it seems to be a single phrase repeated or variations on a singular phrase. The closest I can get is it sounds sort of like “oshamu, ohari,” the latter could also be a phrase (“who are we?”). There seems like a longer phrase right at the point with Ganon’s corpse where he isn’t moving yet (“oshamu oderi an ohari”, just trying to replicate it by ear?)

So Ganon wasn’t underneath Hyrule Castle as a deliberate stratagem against his enemies- he was being held down there by something. Thus, was the Calamity really him trying to reincarnate? Or possibly, just him trying to build enough of a body he could dig down and free what he really had? How lucid has he been down here, and how much is bodily Ganon in tune with the raging Calamity?

Honestly now I’m really damn suspicious of Rhoam’s assertion in early-game BotW that Hyrule Castle was conveniently able to hold Ganon. If this structure was set up in its underbelly... how much of the castle was built deliberately in this manner? Were those spikes that Ganon pushed to the surface in BotW put below it originally?

His corpse has two rings on his arm and one on his visible ankle, which could be bangles, but, they also seem to have chains leading off them. This would make it look like he was chained down when the hand originally got that grip on him. Is that what killed him? Was he exsanguinated by that attack, or was the loss of blood and subsequent mummification of his corpse a deliberate bid on his part? Is the Malice a thing because his blood was the only part of his body he could move?

The implication of first Zelda and then glowing thing desperately grabbing Link’s hand to me suggests like he’s ‘bout to get into some deep shit, also Zelda seems to be alone when Ganon revives. I hope this doesn’t mean she’s about to try and tank jar Ganon / mutually trap herself with him a second time, but it would be interesting if we play different stretches of Link and Zelda separate from each other traveling and trying to reunite.

They pass a cave painting that seems to depict Ganon on horseback holding a spear we don’t see the head of. Trident confirmed? Maybe? I can hope? They've given him a lot of swords in recent games which is cool and all but give other weapons some love here especially his classical mainstay
