here’s been many adjectives used this year to describe Ole Miss softball’s incredible season, and Cinderella run is the phrase that often comes to mind. In a heartbreaking end, Cinderella lost her slipper, but she won’t be forgotten, as the Rebels fell 1-0 to the 11-time national champion UCLA Bruins Friday night in NCAA Super Regional play.
Just last year, Ole Miss (43-20) made its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, ultimately falling to the eventual national champion Oklahoma Sooners in regional action. This season, the Rebels fought back from a rough start in SEC play to claim the SEC Tournament Championship, earning their way to a national seed and host site for NCAA Regionals. After winning that last weekend, Ole Miss was faced with a daunting task in Los Angeles against the perennial powerhouse, and came up just short falling by a combined two runs in the two losses.
With the season-ending loss Friday night, the Rebels say goodbye to a special senior class in Miranda Strother, Courtney Syrett, Dakota Matiko, and Raven Campos. For all four, it was a bumpy ride to start, but one they can hang their hat on as the Rebels went from 3-21 in SEC play in 2014, to claiming the tournament title in 2017.
In Friday’s 1-0 defeat, head coach Mike Smith handed the ball off to sophomore Brittany Finney in the circle, her first start in three weeks. It marked the first time this postseason rising star Kaitlin Lee wouldn’t get the ball, but Finney made the most of her opportunity.
After a shaky start in the first that included a double and RBI single, Finney settled in and worked three 1-2-3 frames from there, and finished the contest with only four hits allowed and the one run. Unfortunately, the Rebel offense wasn’t quite as sharp, as they left seven on base, five of which were stranded in scoring position.
The Bruins got on the board early in the first after Brianna Tautalafua doubled off the wall in left, and Madeline Jelenicki singled up the middle to score the run. That would be the only run of the night, though, as both pitchers were locked in a duel from there.
In the Rebels’ first chance at the plate, Elantra Cox led it off with a four-pitch walk, before eventually stealing second. A groundout to first moved her to third, but a strikeout ended the threat and kept the score 1-0.
After Finney settled in for a clean second, Alyssa Gonzalez, playing in front of her hometown crowd, led off with a line drive single to short. With one down, Courtney Syrett rolled a slow grounder to third, when the third baseman threw to second but it rolled into center field. From there, Paige McKinney lined out to left, before Ashton Lampton popped up a 2-0 pitch on the infield to end the inning.
Finney came back in the third to work another impressive clean frame, as she struck out all three batters she faced. Kylan Becker then came back in the home half for a base hit up the middle, but a force play at second and groundout again thwarted any threat keeping it a 1-0 game.
The Rebels came back in the fourth with another leadoff single off the bat of Gonzalez, before Kaylee Horton drew a walk and that ended the night for UCLA’s starter Selina Ta’amilo. The Bruins turned to the Thursday night starter, Rachel Garcia. Syrett put down a sacrifice bunt moving both runenrs into scoring position, but another lineout and strikeout stranded the pair.
Becker again reached in the fifth off a 1-out walk, but Strother struck out and Becker was caught stealing to quickly end that frame.
In the sixth, Finney reached off an error at third, but three-straight putouts ensured the 1-0 lead would hold for UCLA headed to the seventh. But, the Rebels couldn’t get any offense going, capping off the 1-0 decision.
Gonzalez finished the game 2-for-3, and had only one at-bat in the entire Super Regional where she didn’t get a hit. Becker added the other hit for Ole Miss, as she, Cox and Horton all drew a walk each.

Liveblog: 2019 WCWS Final -Game 2
Archive of liveblogs from this game. Updates will be as they were posted unless I am correcting an error I made originally when the post was made as sometimes plays appear to be errors when they aren’t charged as errors and vice versa. These edits will be in brackets.
[note: i am really tired and not checking this for errors until tomorrow lmao]
Pregame Preview
No 2. UCLA takes game 1 of the WCWS series final. This is a best of 3 series so if UCLA wins again tonight, they are the national champion. No 1. Oklahoma must win tonight to force the final if-necessary game which will be a win or go home situation.
UCLA was lights out yesterday with a 16-3 victory over Oklahoma. Their offense was on fire as they had 4 home runs hit by 4 different players and every player in the starting lineup had a hit or reached base safely. The lead was so comfortable to the point where coach Kelly Inouye-Perez pulled USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year, Rachel Garcia and let freshman pitcher, Megan Faraimo and sophomore pitcher, Holly Azevedo gain some experience as Garcia has pitched every pitch of the WCWS for the Bruins so far. Defensively, the Bruins were able to hold off the Oklahoma offense and were only charged with 1 error for the duration of the game (dropped foul ball by Sullivan who came in relief of senior catcher, Paige Halstead). Garcia pitched 5 innings; gave up 3 hits, 1 earned run which was a home run from senior, Shay Knighten.
The Bruins need to continue this momentum through today to wrap this up in two games while keeping defensive errors to a minimum. Offensively, focusing on sacrifice hits, quality at-bats and tight base running will make the difference. This will be their first title win since 2010 if the Bruins are able to pull off the upset.
Oklahoma had some major mistakes yesterday from their defense and could not make up the difference with their bats. Two solo homers from freshman, Grace Green, Shay Knighten, and an RBI from senior, Sydney Romero were not enough. Oklahoma used a total of 4 different pitchers in the circle and each gave up at least an earned run with 3 of the 4 giving up a home run. Defensively, the Sooners committed 3 errors in one inning and other minor fumbles throughout the game which cannot happen again today if they want to keep this close. Coach Patty Gasso will likely be relying on standout junior left handed pitcher, G Juarez on the start today who seemed to have an off day yesterday after playing twice on Sunday vs. Alabama. If G is hitting her spots, look out.
The Sooners need to rebound from yesterday and focus on making the routine plays in the field and avoiding overthrows which the Bruins capitalized on yesterday. Offensively, they are capable of more and should take advantage of having seen Garcia pitch yesterday as it is unlikely Faraimo or Azevedo will get the start. Getting the ball out of the infield is key and OU needs to find the gaps to advance runners or rely more on sacrifice plays instead of the long ball. Oklahoma has won 2 of the past 3 WCWS and this senior class will be the first senior class since Arizona in the 90′s to have 3 national titles if they are able to force game 3 tomorrow and beat UCLA twice.
Game 2 will be on ESPN at 8:30PM EST. Live stats will be found here (x) under play-by-play when the game begins. UCLA will be the home team in this game and bat at the bottom half of every inning. As always, if you are watching and have any questions, feel free to send them in!
Starting Lineups
Tumblr media
I don’t see any changes from yesterday for either team iirc.  Same starting pitchers also. UCLA is the home team for this game so they will be batting second.
Top of the 1st - Oklahoma Batting
Sydney Romero - Leadoff double to right center.
Caleigh Clifton - Full count and a strikeout. Nice drop ball to finish the at-bat after a few rise balls.
Jocelyn Alo - Ground out to Tautalafua who barely holds onto the ball. The throw to Pack takes her off of the bag at first, but she is able to tag Alo out.
Grace Green - Strikeout to end the inning.
Romero is left in scoring position on second.
Bubba Nickles, Briana Perez and Aaliyah Jordan up to bat next for the Bruins.
Bottom of the 1st - UCLA Batting
BUBBA NICKLES - HOME RUN to left field.
Bri Perez - Omg back to back homers for UCLA as Bri homers to center field
So in 4 pitches, G has given up two home runs and Mariah Lopez is running out to the bullpen understandably.
G has only given up 13 home runs this season, same as Garcia, but now 2 more on top of those 13.
Aaliyah Jordan - strikeout on an 8 pitch at bat (2-2 with multiple foul balls)
Rachel Garcia - Full count and caught looking on strike 3.
Taylor Pack - Much more confident pitching from G this time and she’s in a pitcher’s count of 0-2. Infield single to shortstop and beats out the throw to first. [during the game edit: Apparently they are charging it as an E6 on Romero and not an infield single.]
Brianna Tautalafua - my mistake, she moves up into the 6 spot to bat this game from the 7 spot. Blips into center for a double and Pack takes third.
Colleen Sullivan - 3 straight balls so far and she’s in a hitter’s count of 3-1. One of the most patient batters on the UCLA team with a ton of walks on the season. Now full count to Sullivan. Takes the walk on ball 4 to load the bases
Kinsley Washington - Went 4 for 4 yesterday on 3 different pitchers so huge opportunity here for Kinsley to do some damage. Unassisted ground out to Shay Knighten at first and the Bruin threat is ended.
Shay Knighten, Nicole Mendes and Fale Aviu up next for the Sooners.
2-0 UCLA after the 1st.
Top of the 2nd - Oklahoma Batting
Shay Knighten - Ground out to Tautalafua at third who makes the throw to first just in time.
Nicole Mendes - Finds a gap in left center between Godin and Nickles for a base hit.
Fale Aviu - Ground out to Washington who makes the play to Pack at first in time. Mendes advances to second and in scoring position.
Lynnsie Elam - Ground out to Tautalafua and a graceful spin on the throw to Pack for the final out. Mendes left on second in scoring position.
Kelli Godin, Bubba Nickles and Brianna Perez up next for the Bruins.
Bottom of the 2nd - UCLA Batting
Kelli Godin - Ground out to shortstop and the throw is just in time.
Bubba Nickles - Ground out to shortstop.
Bri Perez - 3 pitch strikeout.
1-2-3 inning for G and the Sooners.
2-0 UCLA into the 3rd after nothing from either team.
Top of the 3rd - Oklahoma Batting
Grace Lyons - Lined out to a DIVING backhanded grab from Bri Perez over at shortstop.
Sydney Romero - ANOTHER homer off of Garcia to left center to cut the deficit in half for Oklahoma.
Caleigh Clifton - Hit by pitch and the game tying run is on base now for the Sooners.
Jocelyn Alo - DEEP to center field and the warning track, but Nickles is there for a huge out for the Bruins. Wow, I thought that was gone. Clifton does not advance after having to tag up.
Grace Green - Strikeout on the rise ball.
Oklahoma comes back for 1 run in T3. 2-1 UCLA still
Bottom of the 3rd - UCLA Batting
Aaliyah Jordan - BOMB to center field for her second homer of this series and second homer off of G Juarez.
Rachel Garcia - Walked
Taylor Pack - Fly out to center field. Garcia will stay put at first.
Brianna Tautalafua - Base hit to center and Garcia advances to second and in scoring position.
Colleen Sullivan - Strikeout swinging after a conference in the circle for the Sooners.
Kinsley Washington - Attempted sac bunt and ends up safe at first so now bases are loaded for Kelli Godin. Wondering if they’ll bring in a pinch hitter like Quarles?
Malia Quarles - Wow guys I’m psychic lmao. Quarles has had a grand slam this season so far. 3 of 8 of her pinch hits this season have been homers. Strikeout on the drop ball, huge strikeout for G to end the threat of bases loaded.
3-1 UCLA after the Jordan homer into the 4th.
Top of the 4th - Oklahoma Batting
Shay Knighten - fly out to Godin in left.
Nicole Mendes - Single to right field and can bring the tying run to the plate with the right hit.
Fale Aviu - YIKES. Mendes advances into scoring position after a rise ball that Halstead couldn’t grab. Goes down as a wild pitch. Finds a blip in right center and Mendes scores from second.
Lynnsie Elam - ANOTHER error from Halstead as she misses another pitch. This goes down as a passed ball and the pinch runner for Aviu moves to second. Really a shame because Halstead isn’t batting and is a great defensive presence for this team. Double to left out of the mitt of Godin as she jumps too early. Rogers (running for Aviu) scores from second.
Grace Lyons - Up the middle for a base hit. Elam moves to third. No one warming up to relieve Garcia.
Sydney Romero - Lyons steals second and Halstead does not attempt the throw which is smart for her. Intentional walk to Romero for a force at any base…let’s hope this pays off
Caleigh Clifton - Big swing and miss at a rise ball AND STRIKEOUT.
Jocelyn Alo - Rachel’s on fire now, 72 mph pitches casually. Check swing is ruled a ball. Ground out back to Garcia to end the inning with bases loaded.
omg i can breathe again.
Sooners come back for 2 to tie it in T4. Let’s see how the Bruins answer
Bottom of the 4th - UCLA Batting
Bubba Nickles - Ground out to shortstop.
Bri Perez - Ground out to first base unassisted.
Aaliyah Jordan - Tries to bunt and it rolls foul. Great change up by Jordan though, definitely wouldn’t have guessed that. Hit by pitch.
Rachel Garcia - Walked and Jordan advances to third on a wild pitch that Elam has to chase towards the UCLA dugout.
Taylor Pack - Struck out looking.
3-3 into the 5th
Top of the 5th - Oklahoma Batting
Grace Green - fly out to Nickles in center field
Faraimo and Azevedo are both warming up in the bullpen for UCLA.
Shay Knighten - ground out to shortstop
Nicole Mendes - Yikes 4 straight balls from Garcia. Go ahead run is on board for OU.
Wild pitch and Mendes advances to second in scoring position. Ugh c’mon Rachel, hang on a little longer please.
Fale Aviu - 4 straight balls again so that makes 8 straight from Garcia. Fernandez and Halstead out to check on her. Possible intentional walk to get to Elam who bats right.
Lynnsie Elam - Popout to Bri Perez at shortstop who backhands it to strand 2 runners.
3-3 into B5
Bottom of the 5th - UCLA Batting
Brianna Tautalafua - BOMB TO LEFT FIELD TO BREAK THE TIE GAME. WHAT SLUMP?? WHO IS SHE??
Colleen Sullivan - ground out to shortstop. Great throw from the knees from Grace Lyons.
Very relieved to hear the Bruin Bubble coming back together. Miss Val would be proud.
Kinsley Washington - I love her smile and her energy. She’s having a great championship. Struck out swinging.
Kelli Godin - line out to shortstop.
4-3 Bruins into the 6th.
Top of the 6th - Oklahoma Batting
Ugh hopefully Garcia can hold on. I’m worried that she’s starting to fatigue a bit after having to pitch every inning, but 2 during this WCWS and 107 pitches already and we’re barely into the 6th.
Grace Lyons - Foul out to Kelli Godin in 6th. “LET’S GO” - Paige Halstead. She is really pumped and really challenging Garcia and pushing her which is what she needs right now.
Sydney Romero - Fly out to Godin in left. Huge out for the Bruins with her potential.
Caleigh Clifton - Weak (slow) grounder to Perez at shortstop to end the inning.
Oklahoma down to their final 3 outs at their next at-bat. UCLA now has the opportunity to add some insurance in this inning as they are batting second. If Oklahoma does not tie or pass their score, we have a winner!
4-3 Bruins into B6.
Bottom of the 6th - UCLA Batting
Bubba Nickles - Fly out to Grace Lyons in left.
Bri Perez - Groundout to Shay Knighten at first unassisted.
Aaliyah Jordan - Base hit up the middle.
Rachel Garcia - Lined out to Romero at third.
Last chance Sooners. Jocelyn Alo, Grace Green and Shay Knighten due up.
4-3 UCLA into the 7th.
Top of the 7th - Oklahoma Batting
Last chance for Oklahoma. UCLA will not bat again if Oklahoma is unable to put a run on the board.
This is tight guys
Jocelyn Alo - Line out to Nickles in center field.
Grace Green - Garcia is PUMPED going right at these hitters. Jumping catch from Godin in left at the warning track up against the wall.
Shay Knighten - Can she save the day again like her first year with 17 innings? Her and Garcia go back to travel ball too. SHAY KNIGHTEN DOES SAVE THE DAY AGAIN WITH A BOMB TO CENTER FIELD TO SAVE THIS BALLGAME FOR OU.
Nicole Mendes - Groundout to Garcia.
UCLA has to bat now to try and win this one with a walk off or we’re going to extras. Taylor Pack, Brianna Tautalafua and Colleen Sullivan up next.
4-4 Tie game into B7.
Bottom of the 7th - UCLA Batting
Taylor Pack - Base hit to left to open things up. She is the game winning run.
Brianna Tautalafua - BEAUTIFUL sac bunt to move Pack into scoring position. Commentators are thinking it was a miscue and she wasn’t meant to do that with how great she was seeing Juarez as the coaches are discussing as the 7-8-9 hitters now need to come through or this game is going to extras.
Colleen Sullivan - Yikes grounded to shortstop who cuts  Pack off and applied the tag.
Kinsley Washington - Sullivan moves to second now as a wild pitch to Washington gets away from Elam. Sullivan is coming in now and Prober will pinch run as the game winning run. BLIP INTO LEFT AND PROBER IS SAFE AT HOME.
WALK OFF UCLA WALK OFF UCLA. I LOVE MY TEAM
Tumblr media
Hats off to an incredible Oklahoma team and senior class
Tumblr media
Final: UCLA 5 - Oklahoma 4
WELL THAT HAPPENED GUYS. Walk off UCLA after a Washington RBI to left to score Jacqui Prober as UCLA has to pick up the bats again after Big Play Shay ties the game with a big bomb to center field. Honestly, I don’t have a ton to say because both teams came out swinging and they fought and I had no idea how this would go for so much of this game.
What a great fight by Oklahoma and a huge amount of respect to Oklahoma’s senior class. They couldn’t have done anything more, they left it all out on the field today. Both teams showed up both offensively and defensively and I wouldn’t have been shocked if it went to game 3 or extras after Shay’s homer and UCLA having to go with their 5-8 hitters.
Rachel Garcia pitched a phenomenal game and a majority of this WCWS and I was so afraid that she was going to start to fatigue like last year and not be able to hold on, but never doubt Rachel Garcia.
Thank you UCLA softball for sharing your passion for the game that has had my heart ever since I was little. Thank you for showing us how beautiful you all are and how you never gave up. I can’t wait to watch you guys continue to grow next year.

Liveblog: 2019 WCWS Final -Game 1
Something new I am going to try - past liveblogs under this cut so I can clean up my blog a little bit.
I will be copying everything as it was posted unless I see an error I made while I made the original post (edits will be in brackets) and score updates will only be posted at the end of a half inning. I also won’t be stating the number of outs unless I think it’s worth keeping in since that tends to come up often enough. Anons/mentions etc. won’t be included since I don’t delete those.
Let me know if this is something you like or prefer and want me to continue to do afterwards since I do typically delete my posts after a game/meet concludes.
Pregame Preview
Oklahoma leading off with Juarez in the circle, not too surprised by that. Curious to see if they’ll use her the whole time or have Saile/Lopez enter to get the final 3 outs like they have been these past couple of games.
UCLA is going with Garcia (who would have guessed!!)
No notable differences in the field for either team except Sullivan is back as DP over Quarles.
Live stats found here under play-by-play (x). Series is a best of 3 so a game today and tomorrow and an if necessary game if we are tied after Tuesday.
If you are watching along and have questions, don’t hesitate to send them to me! This is a sport I know fairly well having played myself for a while and would love to get more people involved with.
Top of the 1st - UCLA Batting
UCLA is the “visiting team” this game and will bat first.
First two bruin batters are retired by strikeout from Juarez. AND AALIYAH JORDAN FIRST INNING HOME RUN. LET’S GO BRUINS SECOND. PITCH. SWINGING.
Garcia fly out to center to end the first half of the inning. 1-0 UCLA after the Jordan solo homer.
Sooners up to bat next
Bottom of the 1st - Oklahoma Batting
Big first out for Garcia and the Bruins in Sydney Romero on a ground out to Kinsley Washington over at second base.
Clifton out on a shallow pop up to Washington once again.
Alo had the crazy homer yesterday over not one, but TWO FENCES. LMAO THE TARGET WHERE HER HOMER WAS. Line out to Tautalafua at 3rd to end the inning.
Nice 1-2-3 easy inning for Garcia, keeping things in the infield so far.
1-0 Bruins after 1. Taylor Pack, Colleen Sullivan, and Brianna Tautalafua up to bat next for UCLA.
Top of the 2nd - UCLA Batting
Pack lined right back to Juarez who drops the ball, but is able to complete the play to Shay Knighten for the first out.
1-2-3 inning for Juarez as Sullivan goes down swinging and Tautalafua grounds out to Clifton at second.
Grace Green, Shay Knighten, and Nicole Mendes up next to bat for the Sooners.
Bottom of the 2nd - Oklahoma Batting
Green flies out to Godin in left. Shay Knighten GOES LONG AND MATCHES UCLA.
Mendes grounds out to Garcia and Aviu grounds out to Washington to end the inning.
Oklahoma comes back for 1 run [1-1] after the solo bomb from the senior, Shay Knighten to tie the game.
Kinsley Washington, Kelli Godin, and Bubba Nickles up next for the Bruins.
Top of the 3rd - UCLA Batting
GO KINSLEY HELL YEAH BABY. Infield single to shortstop, advancing to second on the wild throw to first and ANOTHER wild throw into the outfield, but Washington will hold at second. E5 [Washington does not advance after the second wild throw so it does not go down as a second error].
ANOTHER ERROR, GODIN TAKES SECOND AND WASHINGTON SCORES ON THE BUNT AND THROWING ERROR
Nickles RBI double and ANOTHER ERROR by Aviu in left. Godin scores with her speed and now everything is falling apart for the Sooners.
Gasso out to talk her team and get everyone back under control with the multiple errors and NO OUTS
Sac bunt by Perez moves Nickles to third. Jordan goes down swinging.
Two out for Garcia now. She flies out to Alo in right to leave one RISP.
3-1 UCLA after T3.
Bottom of the 3rd - Oklahoma Batting
Elam lines out to Godin in left. Jordan misses the ball in right and Lyons stands at third.
Romero fly out to Perez who goes back to left field for the catch. Lyons can’t advance and must tag up.
Full count to Clifton now and she draws the walk and now runners on the corners. Jocelyn Alo has a chance here and a huge applause from the Sooners as they know what she can do, RIGHT TO THE WARNING TRACK AND JORDAN HAS IT.
3-1 UCLA after 3.
Top of the 4th - UCLA Batting
Great at bat for Sullivan who muscles one into center field for a base hit. 2 down now after a Pack and Tautalafua pop out. WASHINGTON RBI DOUBLE to left to score Sullivan over the head Aviu at the warning track.
4-1 UCLA after Godin grounds out.
I’m living for Zoe and Stevie rn lmao
Tumblr media
Bottom of the 4th - Oklahoma Batting
I’m living for Halstead getting pumped behind the plate after every pitch lmao, she’s a great catcher.
Green flies out to right to Jordan.
Big out as Knighten lines out to Perez at shortstop after the big homer that put OU on the board.
A little fumble by Washington from the Nicole Mendes grounder, but she is able to complete the play at first to finish the inning off.
4-1 UCLA into the 5th.
Top of the 5th - UCLA Batting
Pitching change to right hander Mariah Lopez for the Sooners. Juarez can reenter later if she is needed. Smart move for Gasso to save her for the later games.
Lopez has a 1.08 ERA which is right behind Garcia at 1.05 compared to Juarez at 1.25
Opening walk to Nickles.
Sac bunt by Perez. Reply shows her in the batter’s box, but they call her out. Where’s the grounds crew lmao
Nickles back to first for an unproductive out.
Jordan finds a hole in right and Nickles will advance to third. Miscommunication by Mendes and Alo.
1 out for Garcia with runners on the corners.
Can we get the grounds crew out here? those calls make a difference. Nickles is stuck at third after a great throw from Mendes to home.
Tumblr media
Taylor Pack first pitch swinging and an RBI single to left and Nickles scores. Runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs for Colleen Sullivan.
Strikeout for Sullivan and 2 are left on for UCLA. Bottom of the order for Oklahoma coming up next.
5-1 Bruins
Bottom of the 5th - Oklahoma Batting
Jacqui Prober comes into the game to play right field for Jordan. Prober is great defensively and is typically a pinch runner offensively. Jordan can reenter and I wouldn’t be surprised if they move her to DP.
A single by Elam is left on.
5-1 Bruins into the 6th.
Top of the 6th - UCLA Batting
BRI TAUTALAFUA HOME RUN. HER 4TH OF THE SEASON AND SHE’S FINALLY OUT OF HER SLUMP.
Shannon Saile going into the bullpen for Oklahoma.
GREAT bunt by Washington to get on base. Still no outs and now Kelli Godin.
Sac bunt successful by Godin to move Washington into scoring position. LET’S GO BRUINS.
1 out for the top of the UCLA batting order and Bubba Nickles up.
Infield is in talking and i’m wondering if we’re waiting for Saile and the pitching change?
Saile is coming in to relieve Lopez. Lopez cannot reenter, but Juarez can.
Washington advances to third on a passed ball.
Nickles walked for runner’s on the corners still with 1 out.
BRI PEREZ FOR THE THIRD UCLA HOMER OF THE GAME.
3 RBI HOME RUN AND IT’S 9-1 UCLA. OKLAHOMA MUST SCORE 1 TO AVOID BEING RUN RULED AND STILL 1 OUT
edit: mb no run rules lmao..OU down to their final 6 outs though. boo that’s no fun
Jordan is reentering the game in right field and draws the walk.
Yes commentators, they should give Faraimo the chance AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE EXPERIENCE and they should rest Garcia.
WHY THE FUCK ISN’T THERE A RUN RULE AT THE WCWS LMAO
RACHEL GARCIA 2 RUN HOME RUN TO LEFT TO MAKE IT 11-1 BRUINS
Mendes has been pulled out of center field to warm up pitching.
Well OU okay then.
Malia Quarles is pinch hitting for Sullivan and she pops up to 1st to end the rally for the bruins.
11 hits and 11 runs for the game for UCLA, 6 runs plated in this last inning for the Bruins.
11-1 UCLA into B6.
Bottom of the 6th - Oklahoma Batting
Thank god you’ve learned your lesson, Kelly!!!
Faraimo enters to relieve Garcia and Sullivan will relieve Halstead. What a great opportunity for the freshmen.
Garcia moves to DP and Jordan will go back to right field for Prober.
Jordan again cannot make the play…oof that looks painful and it doesn’t help that she’s had an injury on that right arm.
2 outs for Faraimo so far.
Grace Green homer to left after a failed foul pop up grab by Sullivan.
A Knighten ground out to Pack at 1st base unassisted ends the inning as we move into the 7th. 11-2 UCLA
Top of the 7th - UCLA Batting
Final 3 outs for every team now.
Can we have a run rule next year please? This sucks for these teams to have to keep playing when the schedule for the WCWS only includes one off day and that’s ONLY if you go 2-0 after Friday which only 2 teams do and 6 face elimination games on Saturday. Luckily this year, both OU and UCLA had the off day; but that isn’t the case usually. [post liveblog edit: OU actually had 2 games the day before this due to Alabama forcing an if-necessary game so technically only UCLA has benefited from the full rest, even more ridiculous!!]
Debate on the play at first and Tautalafua is safe after a throwing error, but she will stay despite Knighten being there first.
Nicole Mendes will enter to pitch for the Oklahoma and Julie Rodriguez will pinch hit for Kelli Godin.
Why are stats telling me this that early lmao Washington is up??
Slap from Washington advances Danae Blodgett who is pinch running for Bri Tautalafua and Washington is also safe on that play.
JULIE RODRIGUEZ!! Pinch hitting and a 2 RBI double to left center to score Blodgett and Washington.
Wisz entering to pinch run for Rodriguez.
Nickles RBI single to score Wisz and still no outs.
AND Perez now with a double to right field with runners on second and third.
Commentators now talking about Stevie Wisz and her story, my thoughts are with her for her surgeries taking place after the season ends. Incase we don’t see the senior again in this series, thank you Stevie Wisz for sharing your story and for how beautiful of a person you are.
THANK YOU KELLY FOR LETTING ALL THE SENIORS PLAY RN
Rachel Garcia casual 2 RBI single into center field which makes this the largest amount of runs scored in a WCWS game and still with one out lmao.
Can Rachel go rest now?? Something tells me she won’t lol, i love that kid
Pack and Sullivan make the final 2 outs for UCLA and now it’s the last 3 outs for Oklahoma. 16-2 UCLA into B7
Bottom of the 7th - Oklahoma Batting
UCLA making more fielding changes as sophomore Holly Azevedo will enter for the final 3 outs and her first WCWS appearance for the Bruins. Seniors Zoe Shaw and Stevie Wisz will enter in right and left field respectively to relieve Aaliyah Jordan and Kelli Godin.
Okay Kelly, I see you girl and thank you for letting these girls play the game that they love on this stage
Aviu takes first after a single to right field. Pinch hitter Kylie Lundberg singles to right center and Aviu will take third.
Romero reaches base for the first time today with an RBI to left field.
Clifton foul out to Taylor Pack and THAT’S THE GAME
Final: UCLA 16 - Oklahoma 3
Great game by UCLA both offensively and defensively. So far, the teams at the WCWS this year who score first have won and UCLA followed that trend today. This is how champions play and I hope they can continue this momentum through tomorrow and wrap this up in 2 games to avoid the if-necessary 3rd game on Wednesday. Great for Kelly to also let nearly all of their seniors play today whether it was pinch hitting, running or playing in the field.
Oklahoma had an off day and UCLA took advantage. If you remove the errors, this becomes a much closer game and you can definitely argue that morale was down after the big lead (heck even the OU fans were ditching their team and leaving the stadium when it was only 9-1). OU just couldn’t get the bats moving enough to make up ground besides the bombs from Knighten and Green and a final run in the 7th after an RBI from Sydney Romero.
Luckily for OU, they pulled Juarez after only a few innings and didn’t overwork her which will be key for future games after 2 games yesterday. Also, allowing UCLA to have less time to see her is great while OU got a great look at Garcia. I am assuming Garcia will get the start tomorrow also for another pitcher’s dual.
UCLA will serve as the home team tomorrow and will bat in the bottom of the innings. The game is on ESPN at 8:30PM ET. If UCLA wins, they are the national champion. If Oklahoma wins, they force game 3 for a do or die game.
