11 Super Healthy Foods Bengali Cuisine Is Known For
Bengali cuisine is unique in the ingredients it has. The dishes retain much of the fibre and lot of proteins are eaten in every meal cooked with healing spices.
One of the most celebrated cuisines in the world is Bengali cuisine. Everything about Bengali cuisine is unique from the rest of the cuisines across the globe. Those lip smacking delicacies complete with mustard seeds and paste, special 5 spice mix panch phoran, river fish curries and milk-based desserts are what make the Bengali spread drool worthy. It is considered to be the perfect blend of various vegetarian and non vegetarian preparations, that catches the eye and the palate. When eaten right, and in courses as described in the age old recipe books, the well-balanced dishes actually help you maintain healthy weight.
Moving on from taste and look of Bengali delicacies, let us now consider the health benefits of some of the most famous and common dishes and spices used in Bengali cuisines.
1. Parboiled rice
When it comes to rice, Bengali cuisine uses parboiled rice. Bengalis prefer to eat parboiled rice to ensure they get a good dose of B vitamins. In parboiling, unmilled rice (still in its rough outer husk) is boiled or steam-heated for a short time. This drives the B vitamins (thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin) from the outer bran into the center of the grain. Thus, parboiled white rice has more B vitamins than plain white rice, which loses those vitamins when its bran is removed.
2. Fish
Bengali cuisine and its love affair with fish curries and fish fries is not news. Preparing and eating fish delicacies is part of Bengal’s food tradition and culture. Fish is a high protein food that is low in calories, total fat, and saturated fat. In addition, a large proportion of the fat in seafood is polyunsaturated. The protein in fish is also easy to digest. The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and shellfish, can reduce the risk of heart disease and ensures proper development of brain and eye tissues. Bengalis also cook fish heads and Maacher tel (fish liver oil) which are very rich in vitamins A & D and minerals like iodine. Eating whole small fish also provides you with calcium and phosphorus. Want to gain nirvana? Try Tangra Macher Jhol and Ilish Macher Jhol, they are out of this world!
3. Lentils are packed with nutrients
Lentils (Dal) are a must in Bengali Cuisine. Bengalis use various types of lentils, beans, and grams – these are  low calorie, low fat and protein rich food as well as being inexpensive. Lentils provide more folic acid than any other food. Lentils are also an important source of iron. Eating lentils with foods rich in Vitamin C, such as tomatoes, green peppers, broccoli etc. helps the body absorb iron more efficiently. Soluble fiber found in lentils decreases blood glucose and cholesterol and decreases insulin requirements for people with diabetes. On this note, try the Bengali Cholar Dal!
4. Bitter gourd (Korola)
As a nutrient source, bitter melons are rich in iron. It is effective in treating diabetes and is one of the best herbal medicines for liver problems. It is also an excellent natural remedy for the common cold. Research has also shown it may be beneficial for people with autoimmune diseases and people with psoriasis. Bitter gourd is used in many bengali dishes like stews and bhorta.
5. Turmeric
Turmeric is essentially used nearly in all the bengali dishes and is considered excellent for the skin. In terms of digestion, turmeric corrects the metabolism and helps in digesting protein. Hence is used in cooking all high protein foods like lentils, meats etc. Turmeric is an excellent antibiotic and has strong antiseptic properties. It is often taken with hot milk to help heal fevers and throat problems.
6. Poppy seeds
A must ingredient in most Bengali dishes, postho or poppy seeds are a powerhouse of calcium. One tablespoon of posto contains 127 mg of calcium. Try Aloo Potol Posto. Poppy seeds are also natural coolants and help relieve stress.
7. Garlic
Garlic is used in nearly all the Bengali dishes. Garlic is an effective antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal agent, and probably an immune system enhancer. Some studies have found lower rates of certain types of cancer in people who consume large amounts of garlic. Other studies show garlic can reduce LDL or “bad” cholesterol.
8. Onion
Onions are rich in vitamin C and fiber and contain chemicals that help fight the disease causing free radicals. When you eat half a raw onion a day, your good type HDL cholesterol goes up an average of 30 percent. Onions increase circulation, lower blood pressure, and prevent blood clotting. Onion is necessary in cooking almost all types of curries, dals, meat and fish in Bengali cuisine.
9. Ginger
Ginger has been used heavily in preserves, chutneys, vegetable and meat dishes in bengali cuisine. In Ayurveda it is regarded heavily for use against colds, coughs, bronchitis, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, breaking of fevers, headaches, respiratory infections, and as a stimulant. Its is now being used to treat arthritic and rheumatic pain.
10. Green papaya
Green papaya is an enzyme-rich vegetable known for being a strong digestive aid and also promoting healthy skin. Papaya is an excellent source of vitamins A, C, B complex, amino acids, calcium and iron. It contains antioxidants which are known to prevent cancer. Try Bhate and Bhorta.
11. Nai goon begoon (Brinjal)
With little fat and carbohydrates and tons of dietary fiber, eggplants are a great food for weight loss diets and also for diabetics. In addition to featuring a host of vitamins and minerals, eggplant or brinjal also contains important phytonutrients that have anti-cancer, antimicrobial, anti-LDL (bad cholesterol) and antiviral properties. Fibromyalgia is a relatively common condition, estimated to affect about four percent of the general population.
It is very similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS); Only point of difference is presence of musculoskeletal pain in fibromyalgia and that of fatigue in CFS. Fibromyalgia - Ayurvedic View :
It can be described as 'Mansa Dhatugat and Mansavrut Vata' Fibromyalgia is perceived as a Vata imbalance. Vata is the main imbalance and Aggravated Vata destabilizes the nervous system and can create hypersensitivity leading to pain and tenderness. Accumulation of Ama (toxins) and shrotorodha are also contributory factors.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Fibromyalgia :
The aggravation of Vata dosha and accumulation of Ama (toxins) are the primary causes and should be treated mainly. Associated weak digestion, constipation, and effects of chronic stress should also be tackled.
Panchakarma Therapy for Fibromyalgia :
Pre-purification Measures namely 'snehan' and 'swedan are very useful to balance 'Vata' and to loosen the toxins. Snehan is the Herbalized Oil Massage. This oil is applied to the entire body with a particular type of massage. Swedan is sudation or sweating and is given immediately following the snehan. An herbal concoction may be added to the steam to further enhancement of effect.
Daily herbalized oil massage also provides a deeply soothing and balancing effect to the entire nervous system. The motion of massage creates heat and friction which enhances circulation and helps cleanse the areas of chemical impurities that could be aggravating and hypersensitizing nerve tissues.

Diet and Nutrition :
What role does diet play in fibromyalgia? Can diet help cure the condition?
There is a saying in Ayurveda: "Without proper diet, medicine is of no use. With proper diet, medicine is of no need."
There are certain types of foods that imbalance Vata, create an overly activated and hypersensitive nervous system and thereby contribute to worsening fibromyalgia symptoms.
For example, raw vegetables do provide freshness to the body but in excessive quantities they create indigestion and aggravate "Vata." Also, heavy hard-to-digest foods, eaten at late evening meals, are very hard-to-digest and can create toxins that exacerbate fibromyalgia symptoms.
On the other hand, fresh, sweet (not unripe or acidic) juicy, fruits are very nourishing and balancing to the nervous system. Also, drinking ample quantities of room temperature to warm water throughout the day can aid the body in its natural cleansing and healing processes. Eating the largest meal of the day at lunch when digestion is strongest is also recommended.
What role can exercise play in reducing symptoms?
Exercise can play an important positive role as long as it is not overdone. Overexertion in heavy work or exercise can deplete the body's reserves so necessary for healing and balancing the system.
Regular, non-weight bearing, aerobic exercise can often help symptoms, but please consult your personal physician for help in determining the amount of exercise appropriate for you.
At Arogyam, we help people by drawing on a wealth of knowledge regarding subtle physical conditioning and flexibility programs contained in Yoga asana postures and Yoga breathing techniques.
Do massage and heat help fibromyalgia?
Modern medicine often recommends massage and heat treatments. In Ayurveda some gain the greatest benefits when they are able to take them through several days in a row of classical Ayurveda herbalized oil massage and heat treatments.
These classical Ayurveda therapies help eliminate toxins and impurities from the system and are very helpful in increasing flexibility and often reduce pain. Also, the specific Ayurveda herbs we choose for the massage and heat treatments are a great aid in cleansing, balancing and nourishing the tissues that are most tender and sensitive to pain.
In order to have the ongoing benefit of herbalized massage, almost everyone is instructed in a the classical Ayurveda herbalized oil massage and continues to practice it daily at home because of its balancing and healing effect.
What role does mental stress play in fibromyalgia? Can stress management programs relieve symptoms?
Fibromyalgia often begins after some mental, physical or emotional trauma. Also many individuals experience their symptoms worsen when they come under extra stress. The body has a very powerful neuroendocrine response to perceived challenge, which is well documented to exacerbate many disorders.
Since life by nature will always have some level of challenge, it is important to be able to help the body quickly return to its neuroendocrine baseline after stressful experience. In fact, stress isn't necessarily bad for the physiology, unless the body is unable to restore biochemical balance after the experience of challenge.

Sleeping during the day and staying up late at night Mental tensions like worry, anxiety, fear, stress and grief.

and inflammation in Fibromyalgia. Dosage: twice a day.

Is Sattu good for weight loss or reduction?
Ajwain is known as carom seeds in English, however most commonly famous as ajwain seed, ajwan, ajowan, ajwon and etc, belongs to the Apiaceae family. Due to stress of delivery the gastric organs lose their usual motility and it takes a while to come back to normal routine. All the hormones work synergistically and if there is a change in one particular hormone all the others too are automatically affected because of the inter relationship. Known as Ajwain in India, it is used both, in Ayurvedic and Unani medicine. The bowl movement should be regular and complete evacuation should take place. If you are suffering from terrible pain in the stomach, a handful of ajwain seeds will do the trick. Besides, of course, it’s most popularly used as taro everywhere.
Drain the water and drink it 2- 3 times a day to kick off those extra kilos. It has alcoholic qualities in a very mild form; therefore, it may be used as instant stomach pain. Dried ginger hardens the stool while fresh one looses it. 3. Diabetes mein kidney kamjor ho jati hai. 8.Ajwain for Weight Loss Ajwain has appetite stimulating properties and on account of laxative components, it fastens the bowel movement and thus helps in weight loss. Take 1/4th teaspoon with milk or water in the morning and evening.
Hope you will enjoy as much as I enjoyed making them or my family eating them. 13. Fill a portion of the stuffing, close the balls by lifting the sides by hand and flatten the litti a bit by pressing your palm. A little note of warning: there are people who are allergic to some of these root vegetables, so please to check with your families if you are unleashing this fellow on them for the first time. The existence of sugar within the bloodstream stream spikes the bloodstream pressure. Do try it sometime . living in hot area one should not eat much wheat as it grown in cold weather.
Peel of the burnt skin of the brinjal. Mash boiled potatoes, brinjal and tomatoes together. When viewed from the perspective of Ayurveda, however, in which fenugreek is used to boost metabolism, as well as reduce dryness (vata) and cold (kapha), it definitely supports its use as a yang tonic in Chinese medicine. Add all the ingredients. For more information please visit here sattu drink benefit
