Wore my #thelunarchronicles t shirt for my psychology and neurology appointments on Friday. I found the rather lovely quote “broken isn’t the same as unfixable” during a really bad relapse a few years ago, and it’s been a comfort and a source of strength ever since. I have a necklace and a t shirt with it on. I often feel a bit broken, both physically and emotionally... but it’s important to remember that just because I’m broken, it doesn’t make me unfixable. I found The Lunar Chronicles during a difficult time, during my major relapse/flare up last year. They are beautiful books, full of amazing diverse characters; POC, people with physical disabilities and mental illness, and people who are kind, badass and brilliant, all in their own ways. And when I found those beautiful books, I found this quote. At the time, suffering from temporary paralysis in my legs and not knowing why, not knowing if it would stay or go, I found this quote incredibly comforting. It say, you may be broken, but you are not beyond hope... you can be fixed. You are worth something, just as you are. I wear this t shirt, and my necklace, to remind me of this. I also own a bracelet with each of the leading characters of The Lunar Chronicles name’s on it. So due to my stays in hospital recently, I had a little extra cash to splash, and decided to buy myself some birthday presents 🎁 I bought a t shirt, necklace, bracelet and journal... this is my new t shirt, courtesy of Etsy, and I love it ! The quote is from one of my favourite book series, #thelunarchronicles 🌟🌙 those books got me through a very dark and difficult time... I think the reason they're one of my favourite series is that they portray characters who are all Different, who don't fit in with most of society, but who find acceptance with each other. They are the perfect example of "friends are the family you choose". And I think the stories tell you that it's possible to suffer, and survive; in fact, to thrive. And they remind you that whilst what you do with your life is definitely important, who you do it with is more important. The quote on this gorgeous shirt, "broken isn't the same as unfixable" was, and still is, my mantra regarding my most recent relapse. "Broken isn't the same as unfixable" I say to myself when I can't stand without crutches. I say it when I fall, because right now my good leg is in fact my bad leg. I say it when I'm waiting to see my psychologist for the weekly appointments I've had to restart. And it helps... so I figure having such a powerful message on a t shirt will be even more helpful on Bad Days 😁👍🏻! Sometimes it’s easy to forget I have OCD, PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. Other days, it’s not so easy. Today was one of those days. I really struggled all day today with what my family aptly calls That Yucky Feeling In My Tummy... although I’m proud to say I still made it to my guitar lessons! And I’m really glad I made it, because I ended my day on a wonderful positive note, feeling happy and full of love for music and friends and life once again ❤️. On days like today, I just try and remember that healing is a journey, that it takes time for wounds as deep as mine, wounds that are torn open again and again, to knit themselves back together. I’m proud of myself for remembering all the skills and using all the tools my three years of therapy gave me; it’s the mental equivalent of stitching my wounds back together, instead of engaging in my old harmful behaviours, which were the mental equivalent of putting salt in the wound. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. And with every day that passes, my wounds heal into scars, and my scars fade, until they’re barely visible, barely remembered.
